Elmer couldn't believe on how fast the day had flown by and it was now morning. Why did the time have to fly by so fast? Elmer asked himself.
Bugs and Phil talked for a bit while he was still here before meeting Elmer Fudd.
"I think you'll like Doc. He likes to use the words screwy rabbits. He just wants to see how you would react when he calls you that. Just don't say anything that I told you," Bugs told his father.
"All right. Calling me screwy rabbit probably wouldn't work for me like it does with you because you know him while I don't," Phil replied.
"True, but let's give it a try and see if he could figure out that you wouldn't respond to the word."
"When I came out here, I told myself I can stay for a day or so and meet your friend Doc. Then I can go home."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," Phil answered.
"Since it was a short visit, maybe I can see you next time," Bugs told his father.
"That's the plan, right?"
"Yes, Dad. Just follow me and see if he's out there now. If he is, let me go first and see if he's available to meet you."
"All right. I'll stay here then."
Phil was all that Bugs had left in his family.
When getting out of his hole, Bugs saw Elmer heading over.
"I'm back. Is the other rabbit still here or did he leave without meeting me?" Elmer asked.
"He's still here. We were just talking about you."
"What did you tell him?"
"Just from what I told you before he came out for a visit. He said that he would only stay here until he met you, even though it's short," Bugs answered.
"Sounds like a short one to me. You can tell him to come up now if he wants," Elmer replied.
So Bugs went back to the hole.
"He just showed up. Are you ready to meet him?" Bugs asked.
"Of course I am, Bugs. Since I was only here for a day, I can head home after meeting your friend Doc."
"Are you sure?"
"I'll stay for a bit longer and then I will. I have friends back home to share this with them," Phil told Bugs as they got out of the hole.
"It is something to write home about for sure. Let's go up and see his reaction."
There was no reason for them to bring carrots along this time.
Elmer didn't budge a bit while Bugs went to bring his father with him.
"We're here, Doc."
"So I see. You must be the other screwy rabbit I've been hearing about," Elmer told him.
Phil didn't say anything.
"He doesn't reply to the words screwy rabbit, Doc."
"I can see that. What's your name?" Elmer asked Phil.
"Philadelphia. You can just call me Phil for short."
"That's a long name, Doc."
All Phil could do now was nod his head since he let Bugs take the name screwy rabbit.
"Remember what I just said, Doc? He doesn't like that name."
"I can see," Elmer replied again.
"Of course you do," Phil replied.
"How much longer are you here for?" Elmer asked.
He still didn't go anywhere without his gun.
"Why do you need a gun for?" Phil asked, ignoring Elmer's question.
"Rabbit hunting."
"That's your answer," Bugs told him.
"I guess so," Phil said.
"How are you going to get home?" Elmer asked Phil.
"Just the same way I came here. I was just telling Bugs here that I was going home early so my friends could hear about the short visit."
"To tell the truth, Doc, he's my father."
"Are you serious?" Elmer asked.
"It's no joke," Phil said.
"I thought it was."
"Nope," Bugs replied.
"It was nice meeting you after hearing about you so much from Bugs."
"I was just starting to hear about you when you were coming to town," Elmer said.
"You never told him anything before, Bugs?"
"No. I just wanted to surprise Doc."
"That makes sense," Elmer said.
"Maybe I will spend a longer time with Bugs when I have a chance to come back."
"Maybe I can come with him and see you," Elmer told him.
"I don't think so. I already told him that I would go next time," Bugs told Elmer.
"All right, then. It was nice meeting you anyway, screwy rabbit," Elmer told Phil.
"Same with you, but if I see you next time, don't call me Doc. Got it?"
"Got it," Elmer said.
