Diary notes #1
This is it. All the bloodshed, all the suffering, and death, the riddles made by the healing church, the secrets hidden away by Gehrman, the mystery of Yharnam, has been uncovered... and it all made sense when I killed Rom. I must confront Gehrman. I will try my hardest to save what little remains of Yharnam, not for me, but for the few citizens that have hope.
End Diary
Jace slowly gets back on his feet after the battle with rom, mind still hazy and throbbing from the madness and otherworldly whispers from the great ones that almost took over just by Rom's existence alone. He turns to look at the battlefield that had just occurred moments ago and sees that Rom's body is slowly fading away, along with its horrid spiderlings. Sighing shakily under his breath, Jace fully takes in the environment that he was placed in and noticed one thing; he was lost.
"What is this place?" Jace mutters to himself
"I remember walking towards Master Willem and seeing him point down to the edge of the platform, then me jumping down to the lake and ending up here. Is it an illusion? Am I at the shallow lake still?"
He ponders to himself.
His train of thought halted when he notices something from the corner of his eyes. Turning to see what the object was and finds a woman in white in the distance.
"What? Who is she?" Jace thinks to himself
Cautiously, Jace walks towards to individual in white, holding his saw cleaver with a firm, but tightened grip.
"Hello? Ma'am? Do you know where I can leave this area?"
The woman says nothing, but as the hunter walked closer, he can see that she has blood on her hands, as well as her face and dress.
Without warning, he then hears the faint cry of a baby in the distance. Confused, he looks above the woman and sees the moon, bigger than ever.
"What is going o- aggh!"
Jace grabs his head in pain and anguish, hearing the thousands of whispers from the great ones and the child's cry echoing everywhere. He looks up to the moon to only find out that it is now the color red. Blood red.
The Hunter's mind begins to be hazy and struggles to not faint, but it was all in vain as the last thing he saw before falling unconscious was the moon getting bigger and the sky becoming the same color as the moon.
(Bloodborne Ost- Hunters dream)
Jace slowly regains consciousness after what seemed to be for eternity. The crying of the baby and the whispers have slowly died down thankfully.
"Ugh...my head."
After laying on the floor for a good 2 minutes, Jace finally gets up while dusting off the pants all the while staggering a bit.
?: "welcome home good hunter, how was your hunt? I sense the ancient echoes... They course through your veins."
At hearing this, Jace turns toward the familiar voice that he knew all too well.
"It was good, doll. Painful, but enlightening to say the le-...the workshop..."
The doll, knowing what he was referring to, looks at the building engulfed in flames with solemn eyes etched onto her smooth porcelain face.
"The dream is collapsing, good hunter. This might be the last time we see each other. Gehrman awaits you, at the foot of the great tree. It is time good hunter."
"Don't say that doll. We will most definitely see each other again. This is certainly not the last time, mark my words."
Upon hearing this, the doll lets out a small laugh and a small smile to go with it. The doll has always admired the strangely positive attitude he had towards her. Even though she can see what this hunt has done to her hunter through his cold, lifeless, and empty orange eyes, he is always kind and gentle to her.
"If what you say is true, then I believe you"
The doll then replies
"Go now, you mustn't keep Gehrman waiting."
"Right, of course. Well, I'm off!"
As Jace turns to walk towards the gate leading to the field. He stops in his tracks and looks at the doll once more
"Hey doll, I was wondering...have you ever wanted a name?"
The doll, slightly shocked by the question, answers anyway.
"I have always been known as the doll. I wouldn't be opposed, however."
"Alright! Once I come back from in a bit, I'll help you choose a name, does that sound good?"
The Doll gives Jace a warm smile
"Yes, of course."
Satisfied with the answer, Jace nods, then heads off to meet Gehrman.
As Jace walks into the field of white lilies, he spots Gehrman, sitting alone on his wheelchair at the end of a small hill, sleeping.
Gehrman slowly awakes from his small slumber and looks at the hunter with a small smile and tired eyes, knowing what he now has to do next.
"Good Hunter, you've done well, the night is near its end. Now I will show you mercy. You will die, forget the dream, and awake under the morning sun. You will be freed from this terrible Hunter's Dream. Do you accept, hunter?"
"No."
Gehrman is stunned, never before has one of his hunters refused to leave this wretched place.
"You don't understand Gehrman."
Jace pleaded
"We can still save Yharnam, we just have to find a cure, any cure! There are people there that need my help, our help I cannot just abandon them to save myself. A while ago that may have been the case, but after meeting with them, talking with them, I want to try. Sure, some of them hate outsiders like me, but goddammit I got to still try."
At this, Gehrman says nothing. No, he couldn't find the words to say anything. His student, refusing to leave, and still wants to help the people here on top of that! He had made up his mind, he will not allow him to stay, he will force his student to go to the waking world away from the cursed dream, away from all of this.
Jace silently awaited his mentor's response. Unsure how he will react to what he just proposed. As he is awaiting his answer patiently, he hears the creaking and squeaking of Gehrman slowly getting up from his chair and opens his mouth to speak.
"Dear, oh dear. What was it? The Hunt? The Blood? Or the horrible dream? Oh, it doesn't matter... It always comes down to the Hunter's helpers to clean up after these sorts of messes. Tonight, Gehrman joins the hunt..."
As Gehrman finishes speaking, he pulls out his crude weapon blade from behind the wheelchair he was seemingly bound to before, the burial blade. Gehrman reaches to his back with the blade portion in his hand, and with a little less than a second, a terrible mechanical crunching noise can be heard as the 2 pieces of the weapon fit in place. He then flips the weapon around to reveal the burial blade in its full glory. A weapon wrapped in bandages with a strange and twisted wooden shaft that supports the blade itself.
The blade itself was clean and smooth as the red moonlights rays shine the blade, seeing its artwork in full display. The blade, though clean, has seen many battles and slew many beasts and men in its time of usage.
Suddenly, in a blink of an eye, Gehrman dashes toward Jace with blinding speed with a slash of his blade, hoping for a quick decapitation to end the hunter's life, and force him to be sent back to the waking world. However, all he heard and saw were the sparks of the beast cutter and burial blade interlocked in one another. And thus, the battle between student and mentor begins.
(Bloodborne Ost- Gehrman, the first hunter)
All over the dream, the sound of metal hitting metal can be heard everywhere, echoing into the bloody night sky. In a certain field of flowers, 2 hunters battle to the death, with each ideals vastly different from one another. One wishes to free the other from the nightmare that is the dream, and another is fighting to save those in Yharman. Only one will come out of this alive.
Gehrman and Jace are both tired, Gehrman even more so. Dodge after dodge, block after block; the 2 are in an endless power struggle with each having with Jace slowly coming out on top. Although each has sizable lacerations on their bodies, they still fight.
"Why do you still fight?! I am trying to save you from this dream! You do not belong here; you belong somewhere better!"
"Because we can still save the ones who are sane Gehrman! We need to hold out hope! Please trust m-gaack!"
Gehrman yells as he lands a kick on Jace, causing him to be sent flying a few meters out and landing on his stomach with a hard thud.
"Hnrg!"
Jace slowly tries to get up but is hit with a new sensation of pain from his chest where he was kicked. Upon feeling this pain, he noticed what was wrong… his ribs are broken. He frantically searches for blood vials on his person but finds none on him.
'Shit. I'm all out!' Jace screams mentally
Gehrman swings his mighty scythe down at Jace's midsection, only for him to expertly dodge the blade just mere inches from his body. The blade lands on the earthly beside him and notices it was semi stuck. Seeing the opening that Gehrman has made on himself, Jace wastes no time in getting up and dashing forward to prepare for the final kill.
'Gehrman... I'm sorry for what I am about to do.' Jace sadly thought as he rears his beast cutter and swings at Gehrman's chest striking the first hunter with all his might, causing the serrated edge to tear his chest open with one swing.
Gehrman gasps heavily, shocked at the gash he just received. With no more strength left, he loosens his grip on the burial blade, and falls to his knees, but not before Jace caught him and kneeled next to him, all the while keeping eye contact.
Jace can hear Gehrman's Wheezing, heavy breathing as they felt each other's embrace, knowing who the Victor is. With one final draw of strength, Gehrman leans to Jace's ear and whispers one final sentence.
"May we find our worth in the waking world."
"Our?"
For Jace, it was too late to realize what Gehrman meant as he felt the cold steel of a dagger hidden by Gehrman push into his chest cavity. With the sudden surge of pain, he looks down at his body to see the old dagger lodged deep within his chest.
In anger, Jace looks back at Gehrman to continue to fight but found that he already won, as he felt and saw the old hunter's body limp in his grasp, soulless eyes forever piercing the hunter's own, and slid off onto the bed of flowers, where he rests eternally.
(Song: This creed-Johannes Bornlof)
The Doll has finally noticed the fighting stop. Grunts from the distance were no longer heard, and blades clashing ceased their echoes in the night sky. She became worried, unsure of who the victor was. But it was all confirmed when she heard the rustling of the fallen leaves and flowers. She turns her head to the wall connecting to the gate to turn to find Jace slowly limping towards her, threatening to fall at any given moment.
"Good hunter!"
The doll says in worry and shock as she jogs towards him and catches him in her arms just as he slipped, causing both to kneel on the cobble path surrounded the glowing, majestic flowers. Feeling a wet sensation, the doll looks down to find the that the good hunter has been fatally embedded with a dagger. She slowly places him next to the wall, making him sit upright.
"Hunter...your hurt."
"It... its n-not so bad..."
Jace looks up to the doll's face, both eyes meet one another.
"H-here. A... gift that I s-should have given you... before."
The hunter shaky hands went into his trench coat and pulls an elegant comb that he received when he went to the old hunter's workshop, in search for clues.
"I meant...to give I-it to you sooner. B-but you were always so busy. *Cough cough* s-so I waited, but that day never came. Heh...silly me, right?"
The doll takes the comb into her hand and looks at the ornament. Her eyes become heavy, glossy with tears she didn't know she could produce, but never fell from her eyes
"What... what is this? I-I can't remember, not a thing. Only... I feel... A yearning...Something I've never felt before... What's happening to me? Ahh... Tell me, hunter, could this be joy? Ahh..."
Jace chuckles at her question, which turns into a coughing fit caused by the blood leaving his mouth.
"Jace..."
"Hunter? I don't understand..."
"Call me...Jace. J-Jace Colvex."
The doll, while sad, nods.
"As you wish... Jace"
Jace's face lit up slightly with a smile, a genuine smile that only the doll can bring upon him.
"I... I found a n-name for you. Lily...like the flowers... you tend. I-is this already with...you? Do you...like it?"
The doll, hearing this has made her extremely happy. Never in her life has anyone offered her a name, an identity to call her own. She smiles so warmly at Jace with an approving nod at his suggestion.
"That sounds like a wonderful name...Jace."
"Ahh...I thought you m-might like...it"
The 2 sit in comfortable silence until Jace spoke first.
"Lily, can... can you...hold me?"
"Of course, Jace."
The doll, now known as lily, held the hunter in an everlasting hug. A hug, which would be Jace's final moments in the dream before his heavy eyelids close to eternal darkness
"T-thank...y... youuu..."
Jace finally succumbs to his wounds, causing him to go limp in Lily's arms.
"Hunter? Hunter, are you awake? Jace, please."
Knowing that her Hunter, her friend, has finally passed, had caused her to finally shed the tears she had been desperate to hold on to.
She utters one last prayer before Jace's body begins to disappear in a glowing light of dust.
"O Flora, of the moon, of the dream. O little ones, O fleeting will of the ancients. Let the hunter be safe, let him find comfort. And let this dream his captor, foretell a pleasant awakening. Be one day, a fond, distant memory."
Not a moment later, she too begins to disappear, along with the dream and everything in it, for the night of the hunt, has finally ended.
Jace was in a void, composed of nothing but the hollow dark that filled his vision. Knowing that he had died in the arms of Lily, he is now waiting to wake up in the waking world.
'I'm sorry everyone...I could not save you in the end. All my affords, wasted. My will, diminished.' He thinks to himself, floating inside this eternal abyss.
Then suddenly, he spots it, a spark of light. So very far away. Yet close enough to feel it. Jace looks at the small volley of light with curiosity, like a child oblivious to his surroundings. The ball gets bigger, or is he getting closer? Have doesn't know. A moment later, the light starts to expand, and expand, until he is engulfed in the light.
Jace begins to wake up, the warm rays of the sun gentle is upon his clothing like a blanket, a nice change of pace rather than the cool night of the moon. He flutters his eyes open, and slowly sits upward, he scans his surroundings and is shocked to see trees, actual living trees! The sounds of the wind passing by his face, the chirping and skitters of the wildlife animals in the distance. Struggles to stand, but is finally done so.
"Where...where am I? Where did Gehrman send me off too?"
Jace mutters to himself.
Jace was confused, unknowledgeable of his surroundings and geography. But one thing is for certain...he is no longer in the dream, but in a world not of his own. He can feel it.
