Entwined Hearts
Lucy slowly opened her eyes when she felt someone move next to her. Two arms wrapped around her waist. She did not need to turn over, she knew who it was.
"Natsu."
"Tired."
He did not add anything more and he fell asleep immediately. Lucy squeezed his hand in hers, reassured that he was there. Natsu and Happy had left on a mission five days ago. They were supposed to return the day before. Their mission must have been more complicated than expected. Even though Lucy trusted Natsu when he told her he would be back soon, she could not help worrying. She was reassured to see that he had returned and that he was fine.
It's strange, she thought. A few months ago, when Natsu was in her bed, she would panic, she would yell at him and she would force him to leave her bedroom. Now, it reassured her to be near him. It had become something natural between them. Every time, Natsu would manage to sleep next to her. He would sleep in her bed, or he would put his sleeping bag next to hers. And every time it was the same thing, he would fall asleep with his arms around her.
The first time it happened, Lucy had not slept at night. She had never been so tense in her life and her cheeks were so red that she was sure everyone could see them in the dark. Now, it was when she was not in Natsu's arms that she could not fall asleep.
Little by little, she had realized that she had fallen in love with him. Often, she wondered if Natsu felt the same way. She was afraid to ask him, afraid of what he would say. She did not know how their relationship would evolve, but for now all she wanted was to stay with him. As if he had heard what she was thinking, Natsu tightened his embrace and Lucy smiled. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.
