Chapter 2
A large spaceship landed a short distance from the rubble, and the four strange beings boarded.
"Ah, it's good to be home," said the knight.
"My new monster is finished, sir," Factoraze reported.
The knight replied in a voice filled with sarcasm, "Right on time. How can a robot as advanced as you take a whole week to build a monster?" He sighed. "Never mind, just deploy it."
A portal appeared in the ground as the new monster jumped into it.
"Huh. So that's it's power."
Even after a week, the Zords' rampage was still the talk of the school. Brody and Duncan acted as naturally as they could. Thankfully, a familiar voice broke the tension.
"Ohayou, futari-tomo."
"Kenny!" the boys chorused. That was their nickname for their friend, Kento Hayashi. He was a Japanese exchange student who didn't know much English, but that's what Google translate was for. He typed some words into his phone and repeated it back to the brothers with a heavy accent. "Crazy stuff last week, right?"
Duncan nodded. "Uh, yeah, can you believe giant dinosaurs smashed up part of the town?" Like everyone else, Kenny was fixated on last week's events, bringing up questions like where the Zords might have come from, why they had attacked now and not sooner, and why they hadn't smashed up more of the city before leaving.
"People are saying all kinds of stuff about these creatures," Their friend informed them. "Some even think they came from outer space."
All three of them chuckled at that. They discussed a few more rumors before, eventually, Kenny had to go to a separate class, leaving Duncan and Brody by themselves. Once lunch period finally came, they started discussing the situation in more detail.
"What the hell are we supposed to do about this, just let the Zords live underground forever?" Duncan wondered.
Brody shrugged. "Somehow, I doubt it would be that simple."
Suddenly, a portal appeared in the middle of the cafeteria, and out of it stepped a robotic monster. It had a stocky build and was mostly black except for the pair of tubes that extended from its upper spine and connected to its wrists. Its face was nothing but a red visor. Everyone in the room stared, frozen like deer in the headlights. Neon green fluid ran through the tubes as the monster raised its hands and snapped its fingers. Instantly, a bright green portal opened through a guy's torso, ripping him in half.
That finally got everybody running.
"See?" Brody said weakly, then turned to run as well.
The brothers were the last ones to make it out of the room. But before they started down the hallway, Brody stopped and peeked back into the cafeteria. The robotic monster was playing with the bisected body like a doll.
Brody felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see Duncan behind him. "What the fuck are you doing back here?"
"I was gonna transform and fight that thing," Brody explained.
His brother was dumbstruck. "Seriously, have you been raiding my stash or something? Just let the cops handle this!"
Duncan tried to pull him down the hall, but Brody knocked his hand away. "Even if someone called the cops, they're at least ten minutes away. There's no telling how much damage a teleporting robot monster can do in that time!"
"No telling indeed," came a voice from behind them. Both boys turned around slowly to see that the monster had pushed through the cafeteria doors.
"How'd you know we were here?" Duncan whimpered.
The monster tilted its head. "How could I not know? You idiots were making a lot of noise out here. So, any last words?"
Brody quickly activated his bracelet. "Henshin!" With a quick flash, he was back in the suit he had donned before. Drawing his gun from the holster on his belt, he aimed and fired.
The monster stumbled back with a grunt of pain before chuckling, "Of course, you realize, this means war."
He snapped his fingers; more fluid ran through his tubes as a small portal opened in front of him. The Branson brothers watched as he threw a punch through the portal. Suddenly, Brody felt something hit him in the back of the head.
The monster's visor lit up before firing a red laser at the boys, who leaped out of the way.
"Don't just stand there, use your morpher!" Brody shouted.
Figuring he meant the bracelet, Duncan activated it, causing his own white suit to appear on him. Both brothers ran for cover with their guns drawn.
The monster laughed. "You can run and hide all you like. That won't keep you safe from me, Tele-Pedro!" he boasted before opening another portal.
The brothers stepped out from their hiding places with their guns drawn, but they found nothing. Next thing they knew, something had grabbed their heads and bashed them together. They had just enough time to turn around and see their foe before Tele-Pedro released another laser blast from his visor.
Duncan and Brody dodged and fired their guns, but Tele-Pedro created a portal to absorb the blasts and return them to their senders. Sparks erupted as they were struck in the chest. Floored by the reflected attack, a thought occurred to Brody as he inspected his gun.
As the monster closed in, Brody identified the function he was looking for and unfolded his gun into a short sword. He slashed at the monster's knee, causing more sparks to fly and making its leg give out. Brody followed up with several more slashes to the chest, sending Tele-Pedro reeling.
Duncan continued the offensive with a series of blasts from his gun. Quickly regrouping with his brother, he asked, "How'd know your gun could turn into a sword?"
Brody shrugged. "I didn't! Sometimes in Kamen Rider, there are weapons that can switch functions."
"God, you are such a fanboy," Duncan groaned.
Ignoring him, Brody addressed the monster, "Have you had enough, or do you want more?"
Tele-Pedro staggered to his feet, chuckling. "Had enough? What makes you think I'd stop now?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe because you're outnumbered and outmatched?" Duncan snarked.
Tele-Pedro raised his hand. "Am I?" He snapped his fingers and several portals appeared. Out of them came two dozen minions that looked like humans in black morphsuits.
The brothers looked at the enemies now surrounding them. "Please tell me Kamen Rider gave you an idea for how to deal with a situation like this," Duncan whispered.
Brody thought for a second before tapping his belt buckle, causing a brief flash. When the bright light subsided, the younger Branson brother was holding a sword whose blade resembled Carl's tail. "Yes, it did."
Duncan followed suit. Pressing his belt buckle caused two bizarre-looking shields to appear. It looked like someone had taken the Chasmozord's head, sliced it down the middle, and attached the pieces to his forearms.
Even without a face, Tele-Pedro looked unimpressed. "Shadows, get them!"
Brody wielded his new drill-sword in conjunction with his short sword, slicing up enemies like nobody's business.
Duncan, on the other hand, decided to stick with his pistol. Eventually, a few enemies got through his barrage, forcing him into close combat. Duncan used his forearm shields to block his enemies' strikes and responded with powerful punches, discovering in the process that his suit had enhanced his strength considerably. As he threw another punch, his enemy disappeared in the blink of an eye. Looking around, he saw a dark shadow on the ground without a body attached. Before he could wonder about it, the Shadow tore itself off the ground and punched him in the face.
With the reveal of this ability, the whole fight became a glorified version of whack-a-mole. The Shadows would dodge the brothers' attacks, sinking into the ground, and then respond in kind.
"Mother, I have an idea," Carl's voice came suddenly from Brody's bracelet. "Stab your drill-sword into the ground."
Brody did as he was told, sticking the drill into the ground. As if on cue, the drill started spinning, causing cracks of light blue energy to snake through the floor. The tile erupted in a large explosion of ice that froze any Shadows that were in their 2D form.
The brothers were stunned by the effect of the attack. "I gotta be honest with you, Carl, I didn't think that'd work," Brody admitted.
With this new attack at their disposal, the Bransons were able to beat the rest of the Shadows with ease. That left Tele-Pedro.
"Bet you saw that going differently, didn't you?" Duncan taunted.
The monster growled, "No more fooling around! Full power!" His visor glowed as he fired an even larger beam than before.
Duncan jumped in front of the blast, bringing his forearms together in front of his face and joining his two half-shields to form the Chasmozord's full head. His feet skidded back as he struggled against the force of Tele-Pedro's attack, but his shield stopped the beam dead in its tracks.
Brody leaped over his brother and slashed the monster. Tele-Pedro briefly collapsed before dragging himself back to his feet, shakily positioning his fingers for a snap.
"If I'm going down, then you're going down with me." He snapped his fingers before the brothers could stop him. Duncan jumped to the left while Brody hit the deck. A pair of portals opened right where they'd been seconds before.
"Whew!" Duncan sighed in relief. "Good thing he did that in front of us earlier, otherwise I don't think we would've seen that coming."
The robot snapped his fingers wildly, making more portals appear. The boys miraculously dodged every portal that was made, advancing toward their enemy in the process. Readying their swords, Duncan went first, delivering a glowing blue slash. Tele-Pedro raised his arms in a hasty attempt to guard, which only left him reeling when they were badly cut, green fluid pouring out of the wounds. Brody went next, thrusting his drill-sword through the monster's chest before withdrawing it with a grunt.
Seeing they'd won the fight, the brothers nodded at each other and began to walk away.
BOOM!
Looking behind them, they saw that the remains of the robot had exploded.
Brody grinned under his helmet. "Admit it, you were enjoying it near the end, right?"
Duncan shrugged. "Hey, you think it's weird how sparks flew any time one of us got hit?"
"Sugoi!"
The boys turned to see Kenny and several of their classmates emerging from the classrooms they'd been hiding in. They bombarded the duo with questions like "Who are you guys?", "Where'd you come from?", and "Are there more like you?" but neither of the brothers knew quite how to answer them.
Factoraze's visor suddenly started blinking.
"Sir, it appears Tele-Pedro has been destroyed."
The knight tilted his head. "Really? Even with the reinforcements he brought with him? Wonder who did that. Anyway, Lensia, you know what to do."
The faceless sorcerer nodded. She gathered green energy in her hands and thrust out her arms, releasing it into the distance.
The Branson brothers were so overwhelmed with all their classmates' questions that when the remains of their defeated foe reassembled and started glowing and growing, it was almost a relief. Almost.
When it became clear that the monster was getting too big for the building, everyone got the hell out. When he finally stopped growing, Tele-Pedro had completely reformed, forty meters tall.
Duncan looked to Brody. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
His brother nodded. "Oh yeah."
"Hey, guys?" Duncan asked, raising his bracelet to his face. "Any chance you could head on over here? We've, uh, got a situation."
The response from Chazz was almost instant. "Sure, just stay where you are and we'll follow your dino gem's energy signature."
The brothers were relieved, but it didn't last long when they remembered that the monster wasn't going to just stand around and wait for the Zords to arrive. Raising one giant foot, he attempted to stomp on the boys and their classmates. Not knowing what else to do, Duncan and Brody simply took out their pistols and fired. The shots did nothing more than annoy their giant enemy.
"I bet you punks think you're funny, don't you?" Tele-Pedro said, snapping his fingers again. A gigantic portal opened up next to him and he punched his fist through it.
Despite instantly realizing what his intentions were, the brothers and their classmates were too slow to dodge as a portal appeared to their right. Tele-Pedro's fist came out and hit them with a formidable punch.
As Brody struggled to his feet, he called out, "Is everyone okay?!" Various groans of "Yes" and "No" came in response.
"It's amazing nobody died from that," Duncan said. "Although our classmates are looking a little worse for wear. We need to end this soon."
The giant monster was charging up his visor beam when suddenly, he was hit in the side by a beam of ice. He looked in the direction the blast came from only for Chazz to headbutt him in the groin.
Before Duncan and Brody could celebrate, the portal monster powered through the blow and grabbed the small Zord, tossing him away. Carl fired another ice beam, but this time, Tele-Pedro responded with his visor beam. Both attacks collided briefly before the bad guy's beam won out. The therapod Zord roared in pain from the hit but pressed on. He revved up his drill tail and thrust it toward the monster. Tele-Pedro snapped his fingers twice in quick succession. The first portal appeared in front of the drill while the second appear in front of Carl's face, causing him to hit himself with his own attack.
Duncan's morpher buzzed to life. "This isn't working. Guys, this is gonna sound weird, but we need you to get inside our heads!"
"What?" Brody asked.
"Just do it, dammit!" Chazz ordered.
"Okay, okay," Duncan said. Glancing between the two Zords, he wondered, 'So, do we just jump onto them or something?'
Right as he finished his thought, his blue-suited brother leaped up to his Zord and phased into its forehead. Choosing not to question it, Duncan did the same with his own Zord. To his surprise, there was a cockpit inside. The word cockpit was actually a little loose since there was no seat or controls. The only notable thing in the room was a big white sphere.
"Alright, now that you're in there, put your hands on the ball and help me combine with Carl," Chazz instructed.
Duncan sighed and he did as he was told. "You're a little pushy. You know that, right?"
The students outside were treated to quite a sight as the blue Carnotaurus' hip armor shifted down to its shins. Then its head and torso rotated, making its tail a left arm and its head into a chest piece while a relatively humanoid head formed atop its shoulders. After that, the white Chasmosaurus folded its legs and became a right arm.
In a flash of light, Duncan saw that he and his brother were now sharing the same cockpit.
"Okay, to keep things simple, I say we call this thing a Megazord," Brody suggested.
"You're enjoying this a little too much," Duncan replied.
Outside the Megazord, the students gawked in amazement while Tele-Pedro just tilted his head. "While I admit that's surprising, I'm still unimpressed." He followed that statement up with a beam from his visor. The combined Dinozord strode forward, barely affected at all by the blast.
"Alright, let's finish this," Brody declared as he guided the Megazord's actions. The mecha swung its drill arm, hitting their enemy in the chest.
Even as he helped pilot the Megazord, Duncan still found time to show his disbelief. "I can't believe we just slashed someone with a drill. Who does that?"
The brothers followed up their attack with a punch from their Chasmo-fist. Tele-Pedro recovered quickly though, sidestepping their next punch and tackling the Megazord to the ground. Now with the upper hand, the robot began hammering the Megazord with punch after punch.
"What do we do?!" Duncan shouted.
Brody's bracelet piped up, "This is no big deal. We have a move that can deal with this." Suddenly, the Megazord's eyes fired twin beams, knocking their foe off them.
Calming down, Duncan nodded. "Okay, cool, let's keep doing that." The Megazord fired again, only for Tele-Pedro to snap his fingers and redirect their blast back at them with his portals.
"Alright, I'm really getting sick of that!" Brody turned to his brother. "Did you notice how green stuff keeps flowing through those tubes?"
Duncan nodded. "Let me guess, you think we should try cutting them, right?"
Brody nodded and spoke into his morpher. "You guys have any suggestions?"
"I do, mother," Carl said.
Ignoring Duncan's chuckle, Brody noted his Zord's plan as they grappled with their enemy. Disengaging from Tele-Pedro, the Megazord underwent a minor transformation. The Chasmozord's head and Carnozord's tail detached, revealing a pair of hands underneath. The tail of the Chasmozord separated as well, combining with the Carnozord's tail to form a sword. The Megazord wielded this new sword in its right hand, holding the Chasmozord's head in its left as a shield.
Once again, the boys fired their eyebeams and once again, Tele-Pedro created a portal in front of him to absorb the blast. But this time, he was shocked to see that once the portal disappeared, the Megazord was right on top of him. Before he could react, it slashed one of his tubes and bashed him with its shield.
"Sucker," Duncan taunted the robot. "Always check your blind spot!"
"Let's finish this," Brody continued. The Carnotaurus head on the Megazord's chest opened its mouth and fired an ice beam, freezing the monster solid. "Now, Cryo Slash!"
The boys brought their sword down on their enemy, making him shatter and explode once again. With the battle won, the teens and their Zords took a few seconds to catch their breath.
"I think I could use a joint right now," Duncan said.
His brother sighed. "You can have one when we get home."
Nodding, Duncan spoke into his morpher as they exited the Megazord. "Carl, Chazz, you guys head back to your hole until this blows over."
The two Zords separated and the two teens hopped out of the Megazord. Tired from the battle, they ignored the cheering students, found a safe spot to de-morph, and started walking home.
Author's note: For the record, the sword-gun weapons are just the Baku Laser/Sword of the Seal from Abaranger. As far as roll goes, they're just sidearms. Also, Brody's "drill-sword" is just a rip-off of the Spiral Saber from Power Rangers: In Space. Also also, as I said in the previous chapter, Chazz and Carl are the Zords that make the Bakurenoh/Blizzard Force Megazord, also from Abaranger. Lastly, for those of you that don't know, which I imagine is most of you, "Henshin" is something Kamen Riders say when they transform, and Brody, being a fan, wanted to use it himself.
