Chapter 71: Fall Of The Author, Rise Of The Enchanter

Year: X759. 25 years till Canon begins.

Cade POV:

"Damn it… Why do you have to be so heavy Christopher…!" I grunted as I pulled him along the path to the mayor's office.

After I had finally defeated Christopher at the mansion, I made sure to quickly put that bangle he previously had on back around his wrist so that he couldn't use magic.

Sure it was clever that he used magic sealing stones in a way that he completely hides his magic; but the fact remained that it still removed his magic completely!

Anyway, after I got that bangle back around his wrist, I found some rope in the debris of the mansion that I used to wrap around his legs and wrists to make sure that Christopher couldn't crawl away if he woke up before the Rune Knights got here.

Next was the hardest part. Bringing him to the mayor's office to tell that mayor that I won the fight. I couldn't just leave Christopher there. God knows what would happen.

This unfortunately meant that I had to drag the unconscious man back to the mayor's office. I couldn't carry him, as I was far too tired. As such I had to resort to walking back while dragging Christopher behind me.

Not only was this exhausting to do, but it was also very, very, slow. The mayor's office was located at the west of the town, so I reckoned that it'd take me a while before I got there.

Things got a bit worse when, some of who I suspected were Christopher's fans, noticed me carrying their idol like a ragdoll behind me. With how tattered his clothes were, it was easy to assume that I was kidnapping the man.

I was able to wave them off by saying that he was simply injured and the mayor wanted to see him. I wasn't about to try my hand at convincing them that he tried to kill me. He had such a picture-perfect image that I doubt I would have convinced his fans.

Hell, even I fell for the act.

I was pleasantly relieved when I saw that the fans seemed to back off when I said that. A few other of the villagers did notice me, but they also seemed to just stare weirdly at what I was doing. Maybe they were off put by my damaged appearance.

After what felt like a few hours, I was eventually able to make it to the mayor's office and barged the door for someone to let me in.

The door did open, and I was greeted by the man at the reception desk. He let out a cry of shock when he saw me and the unconscious Christopher.

"What?! T-That's Christopher O' Conner! What are you doing carrying him!?" He proclaimed with bewilderment.

"I need to see the mayor." I said taking a few deep breaths after carrying Christopher for so long.

"H-Hey! This isn't a kidnapping is it? If it is, I'll have to-"

"Did you hear me!? I said that I need to see the mayor!" I yelled with anger, losing my patience a little. "Is he in his office!?"

The man took a few steps back and pointed to the inside the building and to the office door that led to the mayor's room.

"Thank you." I said with gritted teeth as I picked back up Christopher and dragged him to the mayor's office.

I turned the door handle to see if the door was unlocked or not.

It was not unlocked, so with a little bit of magic, I destroyed the lock on the door and swung it open. As I did so, I swore that I heard a small cry of fear from inside.

I peeked into the office and saw a pair of legs just barely visible from underneath the desk.

"Mayor? Is that you?" I spoke, with concern, hoping whoever it was would answer.

I saw the legs jolt for a moment when I called out into the room. Suddenly I saw the legs shift, and the head of the mayor peak out from under the desk.

He looked absolutely shocked to see me. "I don't believe it! It's you!" He cried out with surprise. "You're ok!?"

"Yeah, I'm ok." I answered with a sigh as I moved into the office while also dragging Christopher behind me.

The mayor let out a gasp of disbelief when seeing Christopher unconscious. "N-No way! You actually won! You beat Christopher!" He said with joy as I dropped Christopher in the middle of the room.

The mayor now exited from under his desk and stood before me. "Oh ho, ho, I can't believe this! Someone was actually able to beat that asshole! Oh quick, let me contact the Rune Knights!" He hurried out of his office for a moment, before he hurried back in and shut the door behind him.

"There. I told my receptionist to call them. They're on their way!" The mayor said with a nod.

"Excellent. So do you have that lacrima?" I asked with eagerness.

"Of course!" The mayor said as he reached behind a painting in the room to reveal a safe.

'Ah, the oldest trick in the book.' I thought as I saw the mayor undo the combination and open the safe. Inside the safe were a few documents and a lacrima sphere. He pulled out the lacrima and closed the safe.

"I hid it in there in case he knew it existed. Wouldn't want him to find it." The mayor said as he placed the sphere on his desk and activated it.

As that happened, I could hear the conversation between the mayor and Christopher. As the conversation went on, I eventually heard the sentence that was the one we were looking for.

"Hmph. Alright then, I know that you're a man that won't succumb to desires like money – So I'll rephrase what I said: Give me the security footage or I'll buy out this village and burn the houses to the ground leaving your people homeless!"

"There it is!" The mayor cried with delightful anger. "That'll be enough to arrest him as well as the fact that he attacked you and threatened me. Old Christopher would need a miracle to save him now." The mayor gave a laugh of joy at his coming victory.

"You're right about that." I spoke. "By the way, now that the truth about all this is out in the open, think you could tell me the real story of what's been happening between you and Christopher?" I requested with interest.

The mayor let out a sigh as he looked down at Christopher before looking back up at me. "Yes, I suppose that considering that all this will be resolved by tomorrow, you have a right to know."

"Almost everything that I told you when you first came to me was in fact true, from things like the villages prosperous trade and wealth, The Woodfield Foundation and the murder by Trillo Woods." The mayor began.

"Now of course after the murder, Trillo was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in the H.M.C. As his years were going by, the Wood family were forced to endure harsh harassment from the villagers here. They were always disliked due to their attitude and boastfulness, but I guess this murder was the last straw that broke the camels back. Around a year later, the Woodfield Foundation was forced to leave the town due to their ever-decreasing reputation."

"With no main source of income, the Wood family were on a sinking ship if they continued to remain in this village. As such they were forced to leave the village to seek a better future for themselves elsewhere. The mansion was still technically belonged to them and the father of Trillo and Christopher ordered me to lock it up and not let anyone in – much to my anger."

I decided to speak up now. "So it was the father that wanted the mansion sealed off?"

"Yes. While he didn't tell me the reason, I assume it was because he wanted to keep many of the rich items and furniture in case he ever needed money. He couldn't take everything with him when he left. In short, the mansion was a failsafe if things went badly for him or the rest of the family. As you know, I could nothing to the mansion as long as that the Woods family retained legal ownership."

"So did the father ever come back after he asked you to seal the place off?" I questioned.

"Yes actually. Several times as a matter of fact. He – and by that I mean only him, came back a few times over the next five years after the incident and occasionally brought out a painting or an expensive vase to sell off for money." The mayor answered.

"So how does Christopher come into this?" I asked with intrigue.

"Was just getting to that." The mayor nodded. "It was a few months after the father last visited here. Christopher came here and said that his father 'passed away' and that he had claimed ownership of the mansion. He ordered that I keep the place locked up just as it was before. Not only that, but he wanted me to swear that I keep his past family a secret from everyone. For the last five years, he's been occasionally coming here to remind me of my position to his."

"He was always a quiet one Christopher back when he was living in that mansion. Mostly known for keeping to himself and never normally meeting the villagers. I mean he barely left the mansion. Because of that, the people here didn't know that he was part of the family that they slandered for years."

"So that explains why he hardly ever came here then. Even if his past was somewhat secure he didn't want to be around long enough for people to connect the dots." I realised. "But did he ever take anything from the mansion?"

"Not that I know of." The mayor answered with a sigh. "I've always checked the cameras and he's never exited that mansion with something of financial value. That is unless he's been using that magic of his to hide it somehow."

I gave a hiss through my teeth. "Yeah, that might be a possibility after what I saw with his magic up there today."

The mayor rolled his eyes. "Great..." He moaned with annoyance. "Well I guess the authorities can question him about that." Then the mayor looked serious all of a sudden. "Actually. There is something interesting that I just remembered."

"What?" I asked with curiosity.

"Well I said earlier that he never exited the mansion with anything. But when he first came here he did go up to the mansion to inspect it. And I think he may have left something up there when he went there."

This got my attention. "Left something? What?"

The mayor reached to one of the shelves in his office and skimmed through some files that were up there. After a minute of browsing he pulled out a thin file and put it on his desk next to the lacrima orb.

He opened it up and handed me two small square photos. "These were recorded by the cameras that we have watching the mansion." He said as I looked at them.

The photo on the left had a slightly younger looking Christopher going up the hill to his old home with a book under his right arm. The time recorded at the bottom of the photo revealed that the image was taken at 9:17am.

The photo on the right showed Christopher walking down the hill; him clearly having finished what he was doing up at the mansion. The time listed on that photo was 9:30am.

But I noticed the interesting difference in the two photos.

On the right photo, Christopher no longer had that book under his right arm.

"I suppose you've noticed then?" The mayor spoke up, catching my interest. "Yes I found that interesting as well. I've been wondering what that has been for years now. Of course, I knew better to ask the man."

I was still staring at the two photos with intrigue, not having moved my gaze since noticing the book was missing.

The mayor must have noticed my look. "What's wrong?"

"This book… I swore I've seen it before."

"Hmm? What do you mean?"

"When Christopher confronted me at the mansion… he had a book a lot like this under his arm."

"What?!" The mayor said with surprise. "Hang on, are you saying-"

"We might be thinking the same thing here…" I muttered. "Five years ago, Christopher comes here and makes himself known to you and presumably leaves that book somewhere in the mansion after a quick inspection of the place. Then he never takes it back out of the mansion again. Fast-forward to today and Christopher returns to the mansion and takes the book. Of course he wasn't counting on me being there."

"But why? Why would he come and get that now of all times?!" The mayor asked with absolute shock.

For the first time since beginning this conversation with the mayor I was at a loss for words. "I don't know." I shrugged with annoyance.

This seemed to cause a silence in the room for a solid minute with noise being heard at all. The mayor was the one to break the silence.

"Look, I think it's best if I relay this information to the Rune Knights. They'll be taking this seriously as it's a major celebrity that will be arrested. I think you should just take it easy. I'm sure they can get the rest of the information that we don't have from Christopher." The mayor assured me with a small smile.

I took a deep breath and rubbed my face with my hands. "Yeah I think you're right about that." I said as I looked up. "I mean I'd like to find the truth here. But I don't want it to spiral into some huge other quest that I'd immediately have to do. I was hoping to take it easy for a few months after this…"

"I think you might be right." The mayor said. "You look pretty beat up, so I think you deserve a few months of relaxation. Like I said I'm sure the Rune Knights can handle this."

I gave a small nod and sigh. "Here's hoping so."

"I think we're almost done here. There's only one thing that I'm wondering. What was it that caused Christopher to attack you like that up at the mansion?" The mayor wondered.

"Ah, that." I reached into my Requip storage and pulled out the piece of paper that started our fight. I slid it on the desk towards the mayor.

The mayor picked it up and examined it. "A handwritten statement from Trillo before he was arrested eh?" He muttered. He then noticed that it was double sided and turned the slip of paper over. "An official family tree then? Ah, I think I see what's going on here."

"Chances are Trillo wanted this to blackmail his brother. I had a theory that Christopher was 'asking' Trillo to send him money. I think Christopher had some dirt on Trillo, though I don't know what that is…"

"Now that Christopher is arrested maybe Trillo can tell you?" The mayor suggested.

I gave a light shrug. "Maybe… Ah that reminds me!" I said with remembrance as I pulled a lacrima from my Requip storage and activated it.

"Warden Jameson?" I spoke into the orb.

"There you are Cadewell Philipe." Greeted warden Jameson. "Had a feeling you would be contacting me soon. How has the quest been going?"

"It's nearing completion now. I found that item that Trillo wanted by the way." I said as the mayor handed me back the slip of paper.

"The photo album? What was inside of it?" The warden asked with seriousness.

"Well the album itself was completely harmless. No magic, no hidden weapons, no crowbars, nothing like that." I assured the man. "Instead I found what Trillo really wanted from the album."

"And that is?"

"Well it seems to be a slip of paper that labels Trillo's family tree with an official marking to confirm it. He planned to use this to destroy his brother's reputation by revealing that he was brother to a murderer."

"Brother?" The warden was confused by this. "I think I remember seeing an anonymous brother in Trillo's file somewhere, I was reading it over after you left. But his brother has been tagged as missing, no one has been able to find him."

"Well he's alive and well. In fact he tried to attack me to stop me from giving this information to Trillo. Speaking of which, do you have an open cell where you are? Trillo's brother is quite dangerous with a powerful magic."

The warden was now at his full attention. "Dangerous you say? We do have a few empty cells here, and if this brother is as dangerous as you say, it might be best if he's locked up here. Do you have this brother here with you right now?"

"Oh yes I do." I drifted my head back down to the unconscious Christopher. "He's unconscious right now, so he won't be waking up until the Rune Knights get here. If your people do get a hold of him, make sure you properly empty his Requip storage." I advised the warden.

"All our prisoners go through such conditions when arriving here. Now what about you Cadewell Philipe? Will you be heading back up here after the arrest of this brother?"

"Yeah, it's best that I get this job wrapped up. The only way to do that is see Trillo back at the jail." I said, hoping to wrap this conversation up.

"Oh warden! One more thing. This brother happens to be a popular celebrity in Fiore. He'll probably try to demand his freedom, but the mayor of this village has a lacrima that recorded a conversation of him saying how he would buy out the village and burn it to the ground. Not to mention he tried to kill me earlier." I made sure to advise the warden about Christopher's acts.

"That is some very serious claims you have there." The warden stated. "Well that lacrima will probably be enough for the man to be arrested for several years. The fact that he attacked you backs up the recording as an official statement and not a bluff."

"Best news I've heard all day." I said with a grin. "I'll see you back up at the prison warden."

"I shall. Safe travels back Cadewell Philipe." The lacrima then clicked off.

After that, I put the lacrima back in my Requip storage and turned to face the mayor. "Seems like things will a literal hell for Christopher in the coming years."

"And that makes me happy beyond belief." The mayor remarked with a proud smirk.

Just then we both heard the sound of commotion from outside the building. It sounded like a huge amount of people had gathered outside. Wonder what that was?

Just then the door to the office was knocked off its hinges and fell to the floor with a thud!

Many Rune Knights then poured into the room each of them ready in case of a dangerous threat was near. After many of the men had came into the already small office, a well-dressed women entered, her clearly being the leader of this group.

"Which one of you is the person that phoned about the evil wizard?" She turned her head to me and the mayor expecting an answer from either of us.

"It was me." The mayor said as he raised a hand.

"Well where is he?"

"He's right there." I stated as I pointed downwards towards the unconscious Christopher. I noticed that the women's and the Rune Knight soldiers eyes moved downwards to look at Christopher.

"Oh! It's Christopher O' Conner! I'm such a huge fan! I love reading his books! I think I have every single one of them!" The woman gave a cry of delight upon seeing her favourite author.

Me and the mayor were left a bit dumbfounded and disappointed at that there. Just then, Christopher began to stir a little. The man was waking up.

"What… what happened? Where am I…?" He held his head as he sat up. As he came to a bit more, he noticed his surroundings and current position.

"W-What the-?!" He cried as he looked at his tied hands and legs. He then looked up and saw me, the mayor and the Rune Knights. While Christopher had pure venom in his eyes when he looked at me and the mayor, he seemed to change tact with the leader of the Rune Knights.

"Officer please!" He begged suddenly. "This young man and this crooked mayor have been trying to get me arrested for some time now! They've been harassing me and threatening my career!"

The leader of the Rune Knights looked a bit surprised by this outburst and turned to look at me with suspicion. Christopher gave a small smirk as he turned to look at me.

'W-WHAT!? She's actually falling for that!?' I thought with outrage and disbelief. 'Well then I'll just have to-'

"HOLD IT!" Shouted the mayor with rage. "You're not getting away that easily!"

The mayor grabbed the lacrima on the deck that had the recording and immediately played it. "Here you go officers! This is the evidence that this 'well-respected and trusted author' is nothing more than a lier and a criminal!"

The lacrima spoke out the conversation that Christopher and the mayor had earlier in the day. Christopher's eyes went wide with fear as he heard the recording. When it finished, he was lost for words.

"I have plenty more recordings in here where he threatened me and the people living in this village!" The mayor stated as he opened his desk to reveal more lacrimas.

"Not to mention he attacked me up at the old mansion." I added.

The leader of the Rune Knights turned to look at Christopher with a hard and stern gaze. Christopher meanwhile was seething with anger. He was gritting his teeth so hard that I was surprised that they weren't breaking.

"You… You…" He growled at the mayor.

Christopher finally broke down realising that he had lost.

"YOUOYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUOYOUYOUYOUYOUYOUYOU RUINED EVERYTHING!"

Christopher screamed in rage as he realised that he was finally out of options. His tidy and clean hair (the only part of him that was still tidy before this), suddenly came loose and was now a messy and untidy lot of hair. It came over his eyes and ears, as well as the back of his head.

"You… You'll pay for this!" He snarled at the mayor. "You think you're so smart and smug beating me!? Just you wait! One day I'll bring hellfire down on you!"

"And you!" He turned to look at me. "Hahahahahah! You may ruined me now Cade, but by doing that you'll be seeing some unwanted company in the coming months of your life!"

"What your fans?" I rolled my eyes with sarcasm.

Christopher smirked. With his hair covering his eyes, them barely being visible, it made for a creepy sight.

"No. You're not the only wizard with Enchantment Magic out there."

I froze.

Wh-What did he say?

"What?"

The Rune Knights had began to lift Christopher up and drag him out of the room. I scrambled to keep up wanting answers from Christopher.

"He was just like you. Stubborn, same age, barely gave me any knowledge of his magic, yet he knew me quite well. Your name will for sure be plastered over every newspaper because of this. I never told him about you, oh but you can be sure he'll want to meet you after this." Christopher chuckled.

We had now exited the building and I could see dozens of people standing around the building, only being held back by more Rune Knights that had set up barriers to stop people from pushing their way through. There were shorts and talks of confusion among the crowd.

Christopher was being led towards a vehicle where he was to be transported away.

"Wait! Tell me what his name is!" I demanded as Christopher stepped up to enter the van with Rune Knights behind him.

"You'll learn it soon enough when he comes to see you." Christopher said as the doors to the vehicle closed behind him. I noticed that he was grinning to me as the door closed.

"Dammit!" I hissed, resisting the urge to kick some dirt beneath me.

"Alright shows over everyone!" The leader of the Rune Knights yelled to the crowd. "We've all had our hearts broken here so let's try and take it easy from now on." She advised with a bit of sadness in her words.

The crowd grumbled and groaned as they moved away slowly. I then saw that the mayor of the town had just handed the leader of the Rune Knights a sack full of lacrimas.

"That's them all there. Every one of them has demands from Christopher."

"Thank you… This should be more than enough to put him away." The leader said as she sniffed a tear and went to rejoin her group.

The mayor then approached me. "I have to thank you kid. Because of you I think this village will be moving forwards for once."

"…Hm? Oh right yes!" I said getting cut off from my thoughts. "You er, must be happy about that!"

"Indeed. I'll be selling off the things up in that mansion to help us get some more businesses here. With that the local economy should improve quite a bit."

"I'm glad to hear that." I smiled thinking about how all the people would feel about the coming improvements here.

"So tell me! What is your name and alias then?" The mayor asked with eagerness. "I'm hoping to tell the people who it was that helped save the village."

"Oh, it's Cadewell Philipe, though Cade will do just fine."

"And your alias?"

"Alias? Oh you mean nickname…?" I spoke. "Well, I erm… don't really have one…" I explained awkwardly.

"Don't have one?" The mayor was surprised by this. "Why I think you're more than ready to have one going forward in your future!"

"It's never really something that I've thought about…" I muttered.

"Aw come on. You seriously can't think of one?" The mayor wondered.

So I thought about it.

'An alias huh?'

Now that I was putting a bit more thought into it, the idea was getting me a bit eager. Ah, but what could it be?

A few names came into my head, but I felt none of them matched me that well.

It needed to be something simple, something simple; yet something strong.

Hmm…

Ah!

Hmm, that could work. Yeah… it's something simple and something that shows my strength. Sure I may as well be waving the red flag as to what magic I use, but I have a feeling everyone will know in the coming years of my life.

"I've got one." I said to the mayor with a smirk.

"Well what is it?" The mayor asked with eagerness.

"Call me… The Enchanter."

"The Enchanter? It does sound nice." The mayor remarked with a nod.

"Yeah I thought so too."

'It does have a nice ring to it.' I thought with amusement.

"Well with that out of the way, I have to be getting back to see Trillo at the jail. Have to get my payment for this after all." I explained.

"Well I hope everything goes smoothly on the way back to the jail. No need to worry about me. I'll be very busy in the coming months." The mayor informed me as he held out a hand.

I took the hand and shook it. "I might come back here when I have some free time in my future."

"I'd like that quite a bit. They'll be lots to see I guarantee you." The mayor nodded with a grin.

After we broke the handshake, I moved away from the mayor and headed towards the train station. "Good luck with the village!" I waved as I moved away from the mayor.

"Good luck on your end!" The mayor shouted farewell as I moved away from him. With a final wave of my hand I turned away from him and began to head to the station to catch the next train.

Now that I was alone, I could think a bit more clearly about what Christopher told me.

'So there's another wizard with Enchantment Magic then huh…? Can't believe this is first I'm hearing of it. Where does this guy come from?'

'Christopher said that he was the same age as me, but he didn't say whether he was part of a guild or not. In any case Christopher announced that he would be coming to me.'

'And what the hell did he mean by that? Am I going to be attacked by this guy? I just wish I got his name. Would have been nice to know…'

'Who knows, maybe this guy is super nice and he'll just want to see someone else with the same magic as him. Maybe he'll even teach me some memory enchantments.'

'But why do I have a feeling that won't be the case…?'

I decided to put these thoughts out of my head for now and just focus on getting back to the train station.

A Few Hours Later:

"So you're back." Hummed Trillo as I entered his cell and closed the door behind me.

He seemed to be in a good mood. He was leaning back against the wall and had his hands down his side.

I approached the glass divider between us. "Well?" Trillo questioned as he raised an eyebrow.

"I don't have your photo album. But I know that's not what you really wanted." I reached into my Requip storage and showed Trillo the sheet of paper that he clearly wanted.

Trillo let out a chuckle as he stood up straight and moved towards me a little. "So you did do it. Ah, a shame. I was hoping to be the one to bury my brother's career."

"He's on his way here as a matter of fact. You'll have plenty of time to catch up I'm sure." I spoke firmly.

"Don't think I want to spend any more time with that smart-ass writer!" Trillo shouted suddenly. "Oh I'm happy to see him locked up, but the fact that I'll be seeing him every day now is a nightmare in of itself!"

Before I might have been a little afraid of his outburst there. But after what I had been through today, I felt like nothing he could do would scare me.

"Well you'll have to get used to him. A good ten years you'll be seeing him from now on. Until you're released of course." I added.

"Now, do you have my reward?" I questioned.

Trillo seemed to calm down and gave me a coy look. "Oh? Getting straight to the point are you now?" He sounded impressed in a way.

He moved over to the small desk that he had and picked up a slip of paper on it. He then moved over to the hatch attached to the locked door and beckoned me over.

"Now then a simple trade. The paper you have for the money from this job." Trillo informed me.

"Let me see the paper you have first." I demanded.

Trillo smiled and held up the slip of paper. It looked to be a check for 1,200,000 jewels. I quickly checked it to make sure it was official. Sure enough, I saw a stamp of approval at the top right of the paper, showing that it was official.

"Hm alright then." I slid my paper through the open hatch and Trillo did the same. We both took the papers that we wanted, meaning that the job was officially completed.

'Finally. It's all over…' I thought with a sigh of relief.

"Oh I can't wait to get this out there." Trillo smirked as he looked at the family tree that was on the back of the paper.

"You know I heard the rumours that my brother had been beaten a few hours ago and that he was coming here. Didn't think it was you that beat him." Trillo said as he looked me down.

"Still, I suppose that means he's off my back for good now." He added.

"You mean the blackmail." I spoke.

Trillo raised his head from the paper a little to look at me. He said nothing in response.

"I'll take that as a yes then." I figured. "So what was it? Was it other crimes that you committed before this that your brother knew about?"

"None of your business kid. Now get lost." Trillo warned me.

I knew that I wasn't in a position to get answers from Trillo now that he had his precious paper. It would be best if I just left. Didn't really want anything to do with him anymore.

"Alright then." I shrugged before turning around and leaving the room. I had nothing more to say.

I could have sworn that I saw Trillo raise his head at me in curiosity as I left, but I didn't turn around to check. With the check in hand, I exited the cell and closed the door behind me.

When I closed the metal door behind me, I saw warden Jameson approach me with a few guards beside him.

"All finished in there?" He questioned.

"Yep. Hoping that I never have to go back in there again." I said as I looked back a cell before looking back at the warden.

"Why didn't you walk with me to platform so you can catch the next train?" He suggested to me.

I nodded and we began the walk to the platform out of here. As we walked I handed Jameson the lacrima that he gave me.

"Here." I said. "Thanks for letting me borrow it."

"Honestly, it's not a problem." He smiled as he took it from me and pocketed it. "You don't need to worry about Christopher by the way. We'll make sure that he's locked up for good." The warden assured me as we passed through some doors.

"I'm glad to hear that. It'll end up being a huge shock for the general public that such a celebrity like him was so cruel and evil." I said.

"You probably end up as a bit of a celebrity yourself with how you beat him and proved what he'd been doing. Crazy to think that he had been blackmailing his brother for even more money." Jameson added as we turned a corner and moved down some stairs.

"And the mayor of Claymore Village. Here's hoping that they can improve over the coming years." I said with hope.

"So what's the plan after this job then? I hear most S-Class wizards normally take a month or so break after a job like this." Jameson wondered.

"Oh I'll be taking a break all right. I'll be relaxing and taking it easy for a while after this." I said as I thought about all the things that I could be doing.

"Well here we are." Warden Jameson said as we came to the platform that held the huge trains. It looked like there was one ready to head off in a few minutes.

"Ah, that was quick. Well thank you for the walk here warden." I gave my thanks to the man with a nod.

"You're welcome Cadewell Philipe." The warden smiled at me. "Take care and have a safe trip home!" He said as he turned around to head back up into the prison.

'Time to get back home. It's only been a few days, but it's still felt like weeks since I've last seen the others.' I thought with a smile as I walked down to take the train back to Magnolia.

No POV, Christopher O'Conner:

A few hours later:

Christopher was burning with anger as the vehicle he was on moved through the dead wasteland.

Train? Car? Vehicle? He was too angry to figure out what.

'My future is ruined. RUINED!' He thought with venom as he looked down at his cuffed hands.

'It's all their fault. That mayor, the boy Cadewell and One Step Ahead Jones.' Christopher cursed their names in his head.

'I should never have asked a mercenary to go and get that book from my old home. I should have just gone myself at nighttime.'

'I made the right move to hide it there five years ago. But I didn't think I'd need it so soon.'

Christopher then sat up with a jolt as he realised an important detail that he just remembered.

'The book. It's still up on the second floor of the mansion.'

Christopher thought quickly about whether the book would have been found by now.

'Did the boy Cadewell take it? No, he's far too clueless to clock onto it. He would have carried me straight to the mayor's office after he beat me.'

'I bet the Rune Knights sealed the area off to demolish the home now that I'm gone. So yes… it is still up there…'

Christopher lent back in his seat and looked out the window. Night had fallen, and barely anything could be seen out the window except for the lights of the prison in the far distance, acting as a sort of beacon.

'If it's still up there and she goes to find it, well I pray for whoever ends up encountering her.'

Christopher gave a small smile. 'I suppose this is as safe as I will ever be. She won't get me while I'm locked up here. There's that at least.'

'But… would Nyandam be able to reach me?'

Christopher immediately shrugged that name out of his head.

'All I have to look forward to in my future is the droll company of my brother.' He scoffed at the idea as the train kept moving forwards through the wasteland.

Meanwhile:

A Rune Knight had just entered what he believed was the final room of the second floor of this huge mansion.

He chose to use the door instead of the huge hole that was in the wall. Who knows how that happened.

After this quick inspection he would do here, he could finally head home for the night. It was already pitch-black outside, so that meant hardly any light was coming into this room.

Surprisingly, the lights to the room still worked! The man had not been expecting that to work.

As he scanned the room, he saw that there was nothing that interesting or important here. There was some old photo album on the floor, a loose painting or two and the bed looked decent if you ignored the dust and stains on it!

Then the man noticed a book on a small table not too far away from him. What was strange was that the desk had quite a bit of dust on it. But the book didn't.

It must have been recently placed there.

The man was curious and moved over to inspect the book. Right as he picked it up to look at it in more detail, he heard a voice from behind him.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" Came a smooth and… rather sexy female voice.

The man nearly jumped out of his skin as he frantically turned around to see who it was.

Before him stood a young, gorgeous woman with flowing dark curly hair that came behind her. She had very smooth skin and had dark red eyes that were almost mesmerising to look into. She wore some rather revealing clothing, with her donning a black dress that revealed a part of her cleavage. The dress could also reveal her bare hips and thighs if you looked at the right angle; those were also stunning to look at. She wore some high heels which would have made her a bit taller than she actually was. Her nails were also done, them being painted black as well.

"You're not the man I was hoping for." She said with a pout.

The man was thinking of several different things when she appeared before him, but his job came first!

"W-Who are you!? How did you-"

The man failed to finish that sentence as he was struck through the neck with a a sharp object. In an instant, he fell to the ground dead.

As the book fell to the floor, the woman moved to pick it up.

"It looks like Christopher failed to meet his end of the deal after all. If I find him, I'll kill him for that." The woman spoke as she lifted the book up in her hands.

"Hm, still, at least I got what I wanted." She smirked as she walked away out of the mansion and disappeared into the darkness. "Dark Lord Nyandam… we are nearing our goals."

Oh no… she's hot! These are the worst types of villains to go up against, am I right? Anyway, that's the final to this little quest finished! Do leave a review about your thoughts!

A bit off topic here, but for those who don't know, documents on here (which basically count as chapters you upload) have a 365 day span before they are removed. Some of the very early chapters of this story only have 90 days left, so I'll be making my final, FINAL check overs before I update them for good. I feel like I've been getting better at writing as I've been on here, so I hope I can make some worthwhile changes.

Now back to the story at hand~

With Christopher arrested, the mayor of the village can now finally enable a proper demolition of the mansion and sell everything off to better the village! Cade really helped more people than he first thought he would. Speaking of Cade, he's finally given himself his alias! Took a bit of time… about 70 chapters or so, but hey he got there eventually! With the job completed and his reward handed over to him, he heads home to get some proper rest… But life won't be getting any easier for him. Now there is another Enchanter out there?

Some answers will come sooner than others, but the others will come in time! With that said and done, I hope you all liked this chapter, and I will see you in the next one!
