Chapter 4 - The Date Begins
Hey readers, I am back with the fourth chapter! I'm just letting you know the next chapter will be delayed, and I'll be telling you the reason why at the end of this one. Now, it's response time!
UltimateCCC, which universe is the story in...that's a good question! Sometime between Sonic Generations and the present I think?
Guest, the previous chapter does share some similarities to "Rise and Shine", but I'd say it's more of a happy coincidence. And unfortunately I have no desire to rewrite "A Surprise For Amy". Too draining for me. However, I'll be more than happy to include a scene where Sonic races Amy home! Thanks for the idea.
Random Guy, you'll find out who the visitor is, very shortly!
therandomone95, glad you thought Chapter 3 was cute!
CVGWJames, thanks, I'll tell Sonic you said that. Now, on with the story!
Amy's heart was pounding as she reached the door. Her hand hovered over the door handle for a split second, a flurry of thoughts whirling in her mind. Is it Sonic? Did he decide to come early?
She pulled the door open with an eager smile, but the figure standing on her doorstep wasn't Sonic.
"Bokkun?" she said, blinking in surprise.
The little robot was hovering in the air, holding a small box in his hands. "Good morning, Amy!" he grinned mischievously. "I just thought I'd drop by and check on you—like I said I would last night!"
Amy crossed her arms but couldn't suppress a small smile. "Well, it's nice to see you're keeping your word, even if you didn't say it directly to me. What's in the box?"
Bokkun chuckled. "Oh, just a little something to brighten your day! Here, catch!"
Before Amy could react, Bokkun tossed the box towards her. It burst in midair, releasing a puff of pink smoke and a burst of glittering confetti. The harmless "explosion" sent shimmering sparkles floating through the air, some of it landing on Amy's head and shoulders.
Amy coughed lightly, waving a hand to clear the smoke, but she couldn't help but laugh. "Seriously, Bokkun? Glitter?"
Bokkun shrugged, looking pleased with himself. "Hey, it's Valentine's Day! Gotta set the mood, right? Anyway, I just wanted to check in on you and let you know that Sonic's probably on his way. He's been all weird and fidgety about this date thing since last night."
Amy blushed at the mention of Sonic. "You...you think so?"
"Oh, totally," Bokkun replied, doing a little loop in the air. "But not to worry; he and Tails had a real blast with me! Anyway, I'd better get out of here before I cause any more...er...messes." He waved cheerfully. "Good luck today, Amy! Hope it's everything you're dreaming of!"
Amy watched as Bokkun zoomed off into the sky, leaving a faint trail of glitter in his wake. Shaking her head, she stepped back inside, brushing the remaining sparkles from her hair.
"Well, that was unexpected," she said to herself.
She cleaned up the small mess Bokkun had left behind, sweeping the glitter into her palm and tossing it into the garbage. The minutes began to feel like hours as Amy busied herself tidying up her desk. She rearranged the pens in her holder, brushed off a speck of dust, and even glanced over her journal one more time, visualizing the hours ahead. She smiled softly as she imagined the adventures she and Sonic would share at Twinkle Park.
Just as she turned to adjust the glass rose from Cream, the doorbell rang again.
Amy froze, her heart skipping a beat. She smoothed the front of her dress and ran towards the door, anticipation tingling in her chest.
Her fingers curled around the cool metal surface of the door handle, just for a moment. Then, after taking a breath to steady herself, she pulled the door open.
There he was—Sonic the Hedgehog. Amy's breath caught in her throat as she took him in. He was dressed in a sleek black tuxedo that fit him perfectly. The tailored jacket emphasized his athletic build, while the deep black fabric contrasted sharply with his cobalt fur. A red bowtie rested neatly at his neck, the simple pop of color giving him a dash of charm. It wasn't flashy, but it was undeniably Sonic—stylish, confident, and effortlessly cool.
"Hey, Ames," Sonic greeted, giving her a thumbs-up. "I, uh…hope I don't look too weird in this. Figured I'd give the whole 'fancy' thing a shot."
Amy giggled, stepping onto the porch to get a better look at him. "Weird? You look incredible! Really, Sonic," she added softly, tucking a stray strand of fur behind her ear, "you're very dashing."
Sonic rubbed the back of his neck, his grin widening as he tried to play it cool. "Well, thanks. You're not looking too bad yourself, Ames."
Amy stood in the sunlight, beaming with pride. Her dress was much different from her usual red one. This one was white, and hundreds of sparkling silver beads were interwoven into the fabric. It was also slightly longer, leaving only the lower half of her legs exposed. The white hairband she wore rested snugly in her quills, and the lily tucked behind her left ear added an extra touch of elegance. Sonic briefly looked down at her white boots, their orange soles peeking out as she spun around once like a ballerina.
"Wow," Sonic whispered, unable to say anything else.
Amy tilted her head, smiling at him. "What did you say?"
Sonic rubbed his neck again, his confidence faltering just enough to be endearing. "You look…just wow. The flower, the dress, the boots...it all works. You look stunning, Amy."
Amy blushed as she touched the lily behind her ear. "Sonic, thank you so much," she replied, her voice soft but genuine.
Sonic's grin returned, and he crossed his arms. "So, uh, does your hammer match the outfit?" he teased.
Amy chuckled. "Oh, you mean this hammer?" With a flick of her wrist, her Piko-Piko Hammer appeared in her hand, seemingly out of nowhere. This one had an orange metal handle, a pink head, and gigantic white face disks that gleamed as if it was polished for the occasion. She rested it on her shoulder with a smile.
Sonic took a step back and raised his arms, pretending to surrender. "Whoa, hey! I was just asking! I'm not looking to get flattened before our date even starts."
Amy giggled, twirling the hammer once before making it vanish just as swiftly as it had appeared. "Relax, Sonic. It's purely for decoration, unless you give me a reason to use it."
Sonic chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his head. "Noted!"
Amy laughed softly, hands on her hips as she tilted her head. "Good! Now, are you ready to sweep me off my feet, or do I need to pull the hammer out again to remind you how this works?"
Sonic snorted, shaking his head. "Alright, alright, I get it. You've got all the style and the firepower today. Let's go before you find an excuse to start swinging." Sonic's expression suddenly turned mischievous. "Speaking of sweeping you off your feet…" Before Amy could respond, he stepped closer, slipping an arm under her knees and the other behind her back, effortlessly lifting her off the ground in a bridal carry.
Amy gasped, her hands instinctively gripping his shoulders. "S-Sonic!".
"What? You said you were ready," Sonic teased, his tone light but his smile warm. "And besides, we've got a date at Twinkle Park. Can't keep it waiting now, can we?"
Despite her initial surprise, Amy couldn't suppress a giggle. "I guess not! But you could've given me a little more warning."
"Where's the fun in that?" Sonic quipped with a wink before dashing forward.
The world around them turned into a supersonic blur as Sonic sped through the city. Amy held onto him tightly as the wind whipped by.
"Do you ever slow down?" she called over the roar of the wind while laughing in pure joy.
"Not when I'm feeling this prepared for our date," Sonic replied. "Hold on tight, we're almost there!"
As Sonic and Amy slowed to a stop outside Twinkle Park. Amy's eyes sparkled as she took in the colorful lights and the cheerful sounds of laughter and music. Sonic set her down gently, his grin widening as she steadied herself after the exhilarating dash.
"That was incredible," Amy said breathlessly, brushing a few stray quills back into place. "Never gets old, Sonic."
Sonic smirked, crossing his arms. "Well, I did say we can't keep it waiting."
The two hedgehogs looked up at the large neon sign above the entrance. In bold, cheerful letters, it read: "Cute couples get in free!"
Amy's cheeks turned pink as she nudged Sonic lightly with her arm. "Look at that, Sonic! Guess today's our lucky day!"
Sonic stroked his chin as if deep in thought, then smiled as he look Amy in the eyes. "Cute couples, huh? Think we qualify?"
Amy placed her hands on her hips, feigning offense. "Are you saying we don't?"
"Hey, hey!" Sonic held his hands up defensively. "I'm just saying, I'm not sure you're quiiiiiite cute enough to get us in," he teased again.
Amy gasped dramatically, her hand flying to her chest. "Excuse me?! I'll have you know I'm the cutest hedgehog here, thank you very much." She glared, pointing a finger at him. "Don't forget it!"
Sonic chuckled before gesturing towards the entrance. "Alright, Ames. Let's test your theory."
Amy's heart fluttered as Sonic casually reached for her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers like it was the most natural thing in the world. As they neared the entrance, a cheerful employee glanced at them and smiled warmly. "Well, aren't you two adorable? Go right on in—cute couples get in free!"
Amy blushed with joy, and Sonic just gave the attendant a casual thumbs-up like it was no big deal.
"See?" Amy whispered to him as they strolled hand in hand through the gates. "I told you we'd qualify!"
Sonic smirked. "Guess I'll take your word for it."
From the entrance plaza, they emerged onto the main footpath, which was very wide and very long. Vibrant, upbeat music filled their ears, blending with the chatter of families and couples strolling along, as well as screams of delight and terror from guests riding the park's thrilling attractions. On both sides of the path, charming buildings housed shops, restaurants, and concession stands, their bright signs advertising everything from carnival games to sweet treats. The mouthwatering aroma of popcorn, pizza, and mini donuts wafted through the air.
Amy giggled and clasped her hands behind her back as she glanced around. "It's like we were just here," she said dreamily, her eyes lighting up as she took in the sparkling decorations and colorful lights strung along the buildings. "This place hasn't changed one bit."
"Except for one thing," Sonic said, pointing towards a towering neon sign just visible beyond the rooftops. It read "ASTEROID COASTER" with glowing stars and planets orbiting the bold letters. His grin widened. "Not sure if you knew, but this ride just opened a few months ago!"
Amy's curiosity was piqued. "Asteroid Coaster? Sounds thrilling! What's it like?"
"Oh, you know, just your typical high-speed, upside-down, twisting-through-space kinda ride. Nothing too crazy."
"Typical, huh?" Amy smirked. "Let me guess—you've already tested it out, haven't you?"
Sonic chuckled and gave a small shrug. "Maybe once or twice. I had to make sure it was up to my standards, of course."
"Of course," Amy replied with a smirk, crossing her arms.
"And before you ask, it is safe for the general public," Sonic added.
"Well, if you can handle it again," Amy smiled, "I'd love to give it a try. You are riding with me, right, Sonikku?"
Sonic grinned at Amy once again. "Wouldn't dream of letting you go alone, Ames." Amy rolled her eyes, though she couldn't hide her smile. "So…uh...are we hitting the rides right away, or do you want a bite to eat first?"
"I'm fine either way, but..." Amy gestured towards a vendor selling all kinds of lollipops and cotton candy. "I wouldn't mind a small treat first. There's nobody in line."
Sonic quickly shrugged. "Sure, why not? Gotta keep my energy up too." He glanced at the rows of colorful candies before pointing to a bright blue, star-shaped lollipop. "I'll take one of those," he said to the vendor.
Amy smiled and picked out a pink, heart-shaped lollipop. "Aw, these are so adorable!" she said, twirling the stick between her fingers.
After purchasing and unwrapping their treats, Sonic gave his lollipop a lick. "Blueberry," he said. "Not bad! But I don't know if this is really 'speedster fuel.'"
Amy giggled and gave her lollipop a nibble. "Not everything has to be about speed, Sonic. Sometimes, it's just nice to enjoy the little things."
Sonic smirked, twirling his lollipop between his thumb and index finger. "Heh, sure. Tell that to Eggman next time he shows up!" He paused, taking a good look at the lollipop. "You know, this thing kinda matches the color of my quills, don't you think?"
Amy tilted her head, pretending to study it. "Hmm, it does. But don't get any ideas about trying to match me." She wiggled her pink lollipop in front of his eyes.
"Match you, huh? Don't mind if I do!" Without warning, Sonic leaned over and swiped the lollipop right out of her hand!
"Hey!" Amy gasped, watching as Sonic twirled in circles before giving Amy's lollipop a big lick. "You give that back to me!"
"Mmm, not bad!" he teased. "Guess pink's got some kick to it after all."
Amy planted her hands on her hips and glared at Sonic. "Oh, you're playing with me that way now, are you?"
Sonic laughed and took off at a somewhat leisurely pace, holding both lollipops just out of her reach. "Catch me if you can, Amy!"
"Ohhhh, you are soooo getting it now!" Amy growled. Her head was down and her fists were trembling. When her head flung up, so did her hammer.
She spun it around dramatically, grinning as Sonic's eyes widened slightly.
"You better run faster than that if you want to keep your snacks, mister!" she called out, charging after him while swinging the hammer from side to side.
Sonic let out an exaggerated laugh and upped his speed just enough to keep a playful distance between them. "Whoa, easy there! I didn't think pink fury was part of the package deal today!"
Amy giggled, but she kept chasing him with determination. The crowd around them paused to watch, some laughing and cheering them on. Sonic circled around a fountain, holding both lollipops high above his head.
"You're gonna have to do better than that, Ames!" Sonic teased over his shoulder.
"Better? Oh, I will show you better!" Amy swung her hammer—not to hit him, but to land a thud on the ground just behind him.
"YIKES!" Sonic yelped, narrowly dodging another swing. He spun around, still clutching the lollipops. "Okay, okay, truce! Truce!"
Amy slowed her pace, still holding the hammer with a sly grin. "Truce? You mean you surrender?"
Sonic gave Amy's lollipop back to her. "Fine, you win this one, Ames. But only because I don't want to deprive you of your precious sugar rush."
Amy huffed, putting her hammer away. "That's what I thought. And let that be a lesson to you!" She took her lollipop back and gave it a lick while eyeing Sonic smugly.
"Lesson learned," Sonic said, chuckling as he rubbed the back of his head. "Don't mess with the candy queen."
The two of them shared a laugh as they finished their lollipops. Sonic gestured ahead towards the Asteroid Coaster. "Now that you're all fueled up, ready to take on some real thrills?"
Amy grinned, her excitement returning in full force. "You bet I am! Race you there...unless you're afraid I might beat you once again!"
"Oh, it's on, Ames," Sonic said, narrowing his eyes. "Just try to keep up!"
Author's note: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and please feel free to leave a review! I am giving you the heads-up that the next update will be delayed, since I am currently working on a SonAmy oneshot with a different theme. (Not telling you anything more, or else I'll spoil the surprise!) That story should be finished in about 2-3 weeks' time, so stay tuned for that one!
