Episode 19: Gara

ll

ll

Makoto and Ami flew down to Earth, reaching the Americas before heading to the United States, towards the middle of the country, riddled with lush plains and flat acres.

ll

ll

The two made landfall at Dusk, as the sun began it's descent.

ll

ll

Outside of this, in the U.S., people across the country had been posting onto online forums about a humanoid being, one that looked like an alien or sci-fi Warrior out of a video game, but could only be seen in mirrors or windows, or any other objects that could show a reflection.

ll

ll

But all of the sightings only caught glimpses of the figure. As she seemed to be walking in one direction, as sightings began in places such as Maine, U.S.A, and made their way west, the most recent ones going as far west as South Dakota.

ll

ll

The two headed towards the signal, one that the Lotus had been tracking as the two flew.

ll

ll

THe two landed on the ground, a few dozen miles from the closest city of Webster, Montana, U.S.A.

ll

ll

ll

As the two landed, they already saw something reflecting the orange hue of the Sun's light.

ll

ll

ll

(Ami) Here we go...

ll

ll

(Makoto) Let's kick some ass and get back before the others.

ll

ll

As the two made their way to the signal emitted by the Warframe, clouds began to roll in.

ll

ll

The two reached the signal, finding the Glass Warrior herself, Gara, but NOT in the form wielded by Setsuna.

ll

ll

This Gara was not bound in Gold, nor was it's glass clear cut. No, this Gara, was clad in glass, that was rough and could only reflect, and her skin was a rust orange in color, matching the Earthern landscape around them.

ll

ll

As the tho approached her, the Warframe held up the shotgun, Astilla, which matched this Gara.

ll

ll

But something was amiss. The Warframes grip on the shotgun was strong, but the weapon shook in her grasp, as the two heard soft weeping on their comms.

ll

ll

(Gara) T-Tenno? Where are they? Where is Cetus? Konzu? Saya? Nakak? Where are they? I've been searching across the lands. I need to get back before they are attacked. I need to return while the Unum still is healing. Please... tell me where they are...

ll

ll

(Ami) Cetus...? Is that a place? And those people you mentioned... did they inhabit that place?

ll

ll

A quiet gasp came from Gara as she held onto the shotgun, aiming at Ami as she whispered to herself.

ll

ll

(Gara) No... nonono... they're mimics... they're able to mimic the tenno... I must find Cetus and return to the Lotus. But first... I must eliminate these monsters...

ll

ll

Gara cocked her shotgun as she prepared to shoot Trinity. But not before Makoto used Valkyr's swiftness to tackle her out of the way, barely allowing Ami to miss having shotgun pellets land into her shields.

ll

ll

The two moved quickly, avoiding Gara's shots as she tried to end them.

ll

ll

Before long, Gara switched to her glass hammer, swinging rapidly, barely missing the two as the rains began to fall.

ll

ll

(Makoto) HEY! We don't know anything about those people or that damn Cetus, but we ARE Tenno! Stop shooting at us so we can explain!

ll

ll

(Gara) NO! NEVER! You took them from me, just like your kind took from the other Tenno!

ll

ll

(Ami) Please, we just want to help!

ll

ll

(Gara) NO! I've seen what the Grineer did to Cetus, then the Narmer... But I will NEVER allow you to touch them!

ll

ll

The three crossed melee weapons, Ami with her Dual Kamas and Makoto with her claws.

ll

ll

(Makoto) C'mon, give up!

ll

ll

(Gara) NEVER! What even are you two? Mimics were never able to mimic an operator, but you can talk. Stalkers perhaps?

ll

ll

Gara sent out her glass wall, forcing the two back.

ll

ll

(Ami) No! We're Tenno! Reincarnated from another life. We were lied to by the Orokin and now we are here to defend the world in the modern day!

ll

ll

(Makoto) Yeah. You're the one who's not supposed to be here. To us, and the people of this world, you're a ghost of the past.

ll

ll

(Gara) What... that's- That's impossible! My glass NEVER shatters! I was created to defend Cetus as it's sole protector! I just need to return to them!

ll

ll

The Warframe looked down at herself, possibly trying to reassure herself that she was still there.

ll

ll

(Ami) But... that place no longer exists... The world has changed... The Grineer, the Corpus... Cetus, they've all been gone for thousands of years. You can rest... find them in the afterlife.

ll

ll

(Gara) By the Unum... thats... IMPOSSIBLE!

ll

ll

Gara summoned glass shards around herself, threatening to cut anything that came near.

ll

ll

(Gara) I need to contact the other Operator. The Revenant. He'll know what's going on, his strength was eternal, like a Sentient that protected Cetus... He came after me. Oh no... He's still young! He needs my guidance, he needs me! He can't go on without me!

ll

ll

Gara stood firm as she faced Makoto and Ami.

ll

ll

(Gara) I WILL CUT YOU DOWN! Even if I have to sacrifice myself again.

ll

ll

The three flew into a flurry of melee combat.

ll

ll

Gara swung her hammer against Valkyr's claws and parried Trinity's Dual Kamas with her handle.

ll

ll

(Ami) Please! Understand! We're here to help you! Not harm you!

ll

ll

(Gara) You sound just like the Orokin when they sent us to WAR! To fight in their conflicts. US! CHILDREN!

ll

ll

(Makoto) Well, we're not those golden bastards! We're Tenno, just like you!

ll

ll

(Gara) Spare me! You like as naturally as you breathe.

ll

ll

The three fought, but Gara's defenses were standing strong against the pair's attack.

ll

ll

Luckily, Ami was able to create a link to Gara, siphoning away her Warframe's energy and vitality.

ll

ll

After a few more minutes of fighting, Gara's defense weakened, as her parries and attacks slowed, and she couldn't summon her abilities.

ll

ll

Gara kneeled in the grass, and a girl appeared next to her. A teenage girl, average height. She sported short, rust red hair that fell to her shoulders. She sported a pair of piercing blue eyes and freckles that dotted her cheeks.

ll

ll

The girl wore a sorrowful expression.

ll

ll

(Gara) I've been gone for so long... he needed a mother... and I wasn't able to go back to him...

ll

ll

(Makoto) Not your fault. You died. Simple as that. It's just how life goes. We all do what we can before our time comes, whether it's earlier or later.

ll

ll

(Ami) I've... witnessed similar incidents... it's hard. But the family members of terminally ill or dead, choose to live for those that have gone. So chances are, that operator you speak of... maybe he went on to protect that place you once knew.

ll

ll

Gara returned to her Warframe, although, her movements, were weaker, heavier.

ll

ll

(Gara) I see... I guess it's time for me to go... isn't it then...

ll

ll

Gara looked at Makoto and Ami.

ll

(Gara's Operator) Just tell me, before I leave... what are you hiding?

ll

ll

(Ami) Huh?

ll

ll

(Gara's Operator) Your voice. You're holding something back... tell me.

ll

ll

(Ami) Well... umm...

ll

ll

(Makoto) Well, the Sentient's are back. But we've been kicking their creepy asses back to the edge of the Solar System.

ll

ll

(Gara's Operator) I... I see. Then I will place my faith in the future upon you.

ll

ll

(Gara) Now... what happens?

ll

ll

(Ami) We're not sure... maybe... you need to let go of the Warframe... similar to transferring out?

ll

ll

(Gara) Hm... I see...

ll

ll

Gara walked over to Ami.

ll

ll

(Gara) Then... could you grant me one last request?

ll

ll

(Ami) Sure. I don't see why not.

ll

ll

(Gara) Could I... see Lua, just one more time? I haven't seen it since I fell and... I wonder if she has been rid of the Orokin's meddling.

ll

ll

Makoto walked over to Ami.

ll

ll

(Makoto) Hey, we ain't got time for this. We need her to get back to the Moon.

ll

ll

(Ami) Then you go ahead. I wanna grant her last request.

ll

ll

(Makoto) Okay... whatever suits you.

ll

ll

Ami summoned her archwings, and hovered above the ground, sending the grass below into a frenzy.

ll

ll

(Ami) Come, let us see the Moon together.

ll

ll

Gara went into Ami's arms and the two tried ascending, but seemed to lack power.

ll

ll

(Gara) I... I see... maybe it wasn't meant to be anyway.

ll

ll

(Ami) No! No, c'mon, we can do this!

ll

ll

Ami tried pushing the thrusters of her archwings, but it seemed that gravity was pulling them back to Earth.

ll

ll

That was, until Makoto took one of Gara's arms under her own.

ll

ll

(Makoto) C'mon... the Moon is just beyond the clouds...

llr

ll

The three ascended the sky as one, and broke through the stormy clouds, having a full view of the Moon.

ll

ll

As the three stared, a choked sob came from Gara, and she began to shiver

ll

ll

(Gara) Oh Konzu... Saya... everyone... it's so beautiful... It had been millennia since I've been able to see Lua's natural beauty once again.

ll

ll

Gara reached out for the Moon.

ll

ll

(Gara) It's even more beautiful than I remember...

ll

ll

As Gara sobbed, it slowly grew quieter as the Warframe slowly went limp in the pairs arms.

ll

ll

(Ami) Hey... HEY! Hey, stay with me! GARA! Talk to me, wake up!

ll

ll

(Makoto) Ami...

ll

ll

(Ami) PLEASE! Come back! Look!

ll

ll

(Makoto) Ami, she's gone.

ll

ll

(Ami) I know... I know, and it hurts... she was even younger than us, but she still fought...

ll

ll

(Makoto) I know... Here... allow me.

ll

ll

Ami allowed Gara's lifeless body to slip into Makoto's arms as the two began the flight back to the Moon.

ll

ll

As the two flew back, Makoto noticed that Ami was stiff as she flew.

ll

ll

(Makoto) Ami. You alright?

ll

ll

(Ami) I'm... fine.

ll

ll

(Makoto) Doesn't sound like it.

ll

ll

(Ami) Really. I'm fine. Let's just keep going.

ll

ll

(Makoto) C'mon talk to me. I know you and Usagi are usually the more emotional ones.

ll

ll

(Ami) Heh... didn't have to spell it out for me...

ll

ll

(Ami) *Sigh* It's just that... well... in the medical field... it's our job to keep patients alive. I'm familiar with people passing away... but I've never actually had someone pass away in my arms... It's just... now, I think I understand what some people go through when someone you care about, regardless of time spent together... simply slips from you arms right in front of you. It hurts... I heard of how loss can almost be a physical pain, but... I never thought I would feel so... so...

ll

ll

(Ami) Bitter... as if my heart was full of pins and needles.

ll

ll

The two flew the rest of the distance to the Moon in silence.
