Part of Me

Kaede Kayano's heart was beating rapidly and her face turned pink because of a blush. She had been trying to work up the nerve to confess to her crush, Nagisa Shiota, and lucky for her, Nagisa was focused on trying to kill their teacher, Koro-Sensei (long story, don't ask), giving her time to take some breaths and recover. However, before she could say anything, Nagisa turned around while putting the gun in his pocket, mumbling about how Koro-Sensei wouldn't have put himself in a vulnerable position like that. When Nagisa looked back up at Kayano, he looked confused for a minute before looking shocked and bowing in apology.

"I'm sorry, Kayano! I forgot you were talking to me, and interrupted!" Nagisa exclaimed, his head still facing the floor as a bow.

"Nagisa, it's OK. It is our mission to kill him after all, I don't blame you," Kayano responded, putting her hands in front of her face, telling Nagisa that nothing was wrong. After a moment, Nagisa straightened himself back up, finally noticing the small pink box in Kayano's hands.

"So…what's in the box?"

"Oh! It's…it's for Valentine's Day."

"Oh! That's today!? Man, I completely forgot! Who're the chocolates for?" Nagisa asked. Kayano felt a little bad after hearing that question come out of Nagisa's mouth, showing that he didn't even think that the chocolates could be for him. Karma Akabane, a good friend of Nagisa's, did tell Kayano that the blue-haired aspiring assassin/teacher had low self-esteem and wouldn't think that any girl would be interested in him. Kayano took a deep breath before presenting the chocolates to him, determined to help Nagisa change his perception of himself.

"Actually, Nagisa, they're for you," Kayano said, putting the chocolates in Nagisa's hands. The blue-haired boy looked at the box for a moment before his face turned red with a blush as his mouth widened open.

"M…m…me?"

"Y..y…yes you!" Kayano joked before taking a deep breath and continuing her talk. "Nagisa, you saved me when those tentacles were taking control of my brain. I could've killed myself going after Koro-Sensei for nothing, and you saved me. You made me realize that there was a small part of me that really meant everything that I did in the class with all of you. Especially all the times I hung out with you. I know that you were worried that I didn't mean anything I said to or did with you, but I did," Kayano continued explaining, Nagisa's mouth continuing to be agape as he truly took in every word that the green-haired actress was telling him.

"I'm not done yet, Nagisa. I…I hate how negative and self-loathing you are to yourself. You're one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest, and cutest people I've met, and I think you're a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for. You've made my time in Class 3-E special, and I want you to know that you're special to me, and…and I love you!" Kayano exclaimed quickly before looking down, her face red before she ran off away from a shocked Nagisa. Nagisa, his mouth still agape, turned around slowly while holding the chocolates Kayano gave him. Nagisa's hands trembled as his mouth began moving, attempting to say something, but he was so nervous, that the only noise that would come out of his mouth were high-pitched groans. However, when he saw that Kayano was heading out the door, Nagisa took a deep breath and steeled his nerves before letting out a yell.

"KAYANO, WAIT!" Nagisa uncharacteristically yelled out, causing Kayano to turn around so quickly that Nagisa thought that she had gotten whiplash. But he didn't have time to worry about that now, as the blue-haired assassin took another deep breath before saying his piece.

"When this is all over after we kill Koro-Sensei and graduate, I'm going to take you out on the best date that you ever had! Because I love you too, Kayano!" Nagisa yelled out, his face as red as Kayano's as his fists clenched and unclenched while he tried to relax. However, it was getting very hard for the blue-haired assassin to relax when Kayano was looking at Nagisa with her eyes sparkling like the stars beginning to form in the sunset. Nagisa felt like he almost got a heart attack when Kayano smiled at him, ran back over to his side, and kissed him on the cheek.

"I'll hold you to that, Nagisa," Kayano whispered into his ear before running off, feeling like she were on Cloud 9. Nagisa smiled at Kayano's disappearing frame, his shoulders sagging as the weight of holding back those feelings was finally lifted. However, Nagisa's content didn't last long as his red-headed best friend, Karma Akabane, and his blonde friend, Rio Nakamura, came slithering into the hallway, putting a hand on each of his shoulders.

"My, my, Nagisa. I never thought you of all people would be so bold," Nakamura joked while patting the aspiring teacher on the back.

"Yeah, Nagisa, you were yelling all that to high heaven. Want everyone to know that Kayano's all yours, eh?" Karma teased while elbowing him on the side. Nagisa had a light blush on his face, but rather than look embarrassed and whine like he would normally do, Nagisa looked back at his friends with a small smile on his face.

"Kayano's a bigger part of me than I realized. Seeing her getting the life and her sanity sapped out of her by those tentacles really made me realize just how important she is to me. Kayano's an important part of my life, and losing her would've destroyed me more than I think I could properly describe. Seeing Kayano back to herself makes me happy, and I hope that I can make her as happy as she's made me one day," Nagisa said with a warm smile on his face, looking up at the setting sun, his thoughts filled with his hopes for the future. Not even Nakamura or Karma could joke about that, and instead of continuing to tease their blue-haired friend, they gave him supportive pats on the shoulder with genuine smiles on their faces.

"You don't gotta worry about that buddy, she's crazy about you. You saw how happy she was when you confessed to her," Karma said, laughing while continuing to pat Nagisa on the shoulder.

"Fuwa was the exact same way with me. It's hard going from friends to lovers, but take it from me; it's worth it," Nakamura admitted, twirling a strand of her long, blonde hair as she remembered the day that Yuzuki Fuwa recited a love confession she had seen in a manga to ask Nakamura out on a date. It was the cheesiest and stupidest thing that Nakamura had ever seen, but it was also the sweetest. She couldn't say no to the manga fanatic's offer for a date after that. Though, Nakamura was nervous before the date, thinking that if things went wrong, she and Fuwa wouldn't be friends anymore, but she had never been happier to have been proven wrong. Nakamura was taken out of her bliss-induced stupor as Nagisa walked away from his two friends, his face still lightly painted pink with a blush. "Hey, where're you heading, Nagisa?"

"Getting ready for my date with Kayano," Nagisa responded with a wink before continuing his walk out of the Class 3-E building with a blissful smile on his face. Karma and Nakamura looked at each other, and smirked at each other in satisfaction, knowing that they had proper teasing material to use on Nagisa and Kayano in the future. For now, though, they wanted the two to bask in their happiness, because after all the ups and downs that Class 3-E had been through this past year, they deserve nothing less than a little time to enjoy themselves.
