Hello again, readers.
So, I was brainstorming ideas for more of my stories, and I felt I wasn't really getting anywhere with Magical Jedi Tales: The Series, so I deleted it. But, I plan to later replace it with a new spin off I will call Enchanted Jedi Adventures, which will be a spin-off of some off-story tales that take place starting during ROTD when the royal family meet the Heartwoods. So, be on the lookout for when it's released. In the meantime, hope you enjoy this chapter.
Everyone started to talk all at once as Garrett told them he was a werewolf.
Garrett couldn't get a word out with everyone jabbering and yelling at once. So, he howled loudly, which silenced everyone, and frightened the poor birds outside.
"That's better." Garrett said. "Now, I'm sure you're all wondering a lot of things."
Omega raised her hand.
"Yes, Omega?"
"Is this why we had to learn about werewolves in our last lesson?" Omega asked.
"Yes. And what do you all remember from that lesson?" Garrett said. "Any volunteers?"
Gabby raised her hand and said, "That they can hear high pitched noises like dog whistles?"
"That's right. What else?"
Carmine raised his hand next.
"The only way to kill a werewolf is with a silver weapon?"
"That's only for certain kinds of werewolves," Qui-Gon corrected. "As our lesson said, there are different kinds of werewolves. And there are five main classes of werewolf."
"Which are...?" Garrett said.
"Mountain, Tundra, Grassland, Desert, and Dark." Anakin said. "They're the five main and most well-known classes of werewolf, most of which you said are harmless, but Dark is the one to worry about."
"Exactly. Some, but not all, Dark Werewolves can prove dangerous. Those are the ones who cannot touch silver, namely the rogue ones. As you may recall, in a lot of movies and stories, werewolves are often portrayed as out of control, monstrous, and always transforming under a full moon. Well, that isn't the whole truth."
According to Garrett's lesson, werewolves did undergo transformation under a full moon, but that was mainly when a coming of age was committed. As pups, werewolves started learning how to hunt, forage, and defend themselves, as well as control their transformations. And as they grew, they went under the full moon to soak in the rays that would strengthen their power. The rituals were tricky, but not impossible.
"So, is your whole family werewolves?" Boba asked.
"Not exactly." Garrett said. "Actually...I'm the only one. I'm only half werewolf."
Everyone was confused.
"Let me tell you the real story of the Aloha Alpha."
Many years ago... (Told from Garrett's P.O.V.)
This part, I only know from Nani. It all began when our parents started fighting all the time. I'm not sure why, but I do know it was serious, and Nani was terrified. Remember, this was back when she was the only child, so she didn't really have anyone to turn to then. And then, one day, Mom and Dad filed for separation and were actually considering getting a divorce.
But then, a miracle happened. Mom and Dad decided to make amends, and after a few sessions with a marriage counselor, they decided to renew their vows. Nani was so happy, and so were Mom and Dad... but then they got an unexpected surprise.
(No P.O.V.)
It was a rainy night. Nani had already been put to bed, but Kai and Donna were awake. And then a knock came to the door.
Donna got up and went to the door, but didn't see anyone there.
"Hmm. That's odd. I thought I heard a knock." Donna had said.
And then, she heard a little noise below her, and when she looked down, right on the porch, she saw a basket, and inside was... a baby!
The baby, wrapped in a furry blue blanket, started to cry, prompting Donna to immediately pick him up and rock him. Donna looked around, but didn't see anyone. Knowing she couldn't leave the poor baby all alone, she brought him inside and showed the baby to her husband.
It was then that Kai found a note attached to the baby's blanket, and was surprised to find that the note was addressed to him directly.
Dear Kai,
I am so sorry you had to find out this way. But you have a son. His name is Garrett.
Had I known you were married and getting back with your wife, I would never have agreed to what turned out to be a one night stand.
Please understand, Garrett needs you. He needs a family, and I can't take care of him now. It's not safe where I need to be now.
Garrett will be safest away from me, but I hope someday I may see him again. I only ask that you care for him, and when he's old enough to
understand, let him know that his mother loves him and wants nothing but the best for him. I know it will be hard for your wife to accept him
as her own, but I sincerely wish her and you the best.
Sincerely, Ashina
As you can imagine, Donna was not happy about this at first. Kai had told her before their second wedding that he'd gone to this bar, and next thing he knew, he was in bed with another woman. They nearly started fighting again, but Baby Garrett started crying again. Donna didn't know why, but she felt the need to hold the baby again and rock him.
"Shh. Shh. It's okay, little baby." she cooed.
The baby boy opened his eyes, them being a lovely hazel brown eyes like his father.
"Oh, he's looking at me. Hello. Nice to meet you."
"So... should we keep him?" Kai wondered out loud.
"Well... it couldn't hurt just for tonight."
But it wouldn't be just that night they kept the baby. Especially at breakfast the next morning when Nani was surprised to see a baby in her mother's arms.
"Nani, meet your baby brother." Donna said. "This is Garrett."
Nani was surprised too! She didn't remember her mom being pregnant. All her parents said then was that it was a long story and they would explain later.
So, from then on, Donna loved and raised Garrett as her own, even after she and Kai started having more kids of their own.
(Garrett's P.O.V. again)
As I grew up, I began to notice I was a little different from my brothers and sisters. For one thing, I noticed at age seven, I was starting to grow hair in all different places. At first, I thought I was just starting puberty early, but then other strange things began to happen. For one thing, I felt a strange urge to chase squirrels and play with chew toys, and I started having odd cravings for all kinds of meats. And then, one day when I was eleven I was at a dog park, where I began hearing a very high pitched noise. That was when I knew something had to be up.
I decided to see a doctor about it. I asked my grandmother to take me because when I asked my parents if I was different, they wouldn't say anything. And when I got a match saying I was O, I knew something was up. My mother was A- and my father was AB-, so it was impossible for me to be an O blood type.
I immediately confronted my parents about it, but they made me keep what they told me next a secret. That was when they told me my mother was actually my stepmother. I couldn't believe it. I was so angry!
And that was when I ran out on a rampage. I ran for a long time, blowing off steam. Eventually, after scratching some trees and tearing apart a few hammocks, I'd finally calmed down. But it didn't explain why I kept going through so many strange changes.
I knew I needed to figure something out and keep my abilities under control. For the time being, all my parents could do was enroll me in dance classes and distract me any time I got angry. But after I ran away from home to pursue my teaching dreams, it was during one of my trips with the circus that I found my mother.
I went to a forest, looking for some plant samples, when I heard something zip by me. I looked around, and saw nothing, but I remained alert. And then, I felt it again, and then I found myself surrounded by a pack of werewolves, hunters in training to be exact, seeing how young they were. Although, technically, werewolves actually don't age too much, which is why I look young for my age.
(It was true. Garrett didn't look much older than Kara, but everyone assumed he was just great at aging gracefully or something. Same went for Mariposa, until they learned Doresho gypsies don't age a lot either, which explained why Constantine looked so much younger when he was healed and cleaned up.)
The pack wasn't alone though. Along with them was a female alpha werewolf with fur as silver as the moonlight, the rarest kind of werewolf fur there is. And she wore a crown of primrose flowers.
The female werewolf sniffed me and identified me as her son, to my great surprise. I was even more surprised to learn that she was the queen of the werewolves.
She brought me to her cave nearby and introduced me to the pack. I still couldn't believe it when she told me I was one of them. To make things even crazier, I had two half sisters from her too.
"You can't imagine how much I've missed you, Garrett." She told me.
"I don't understand though, why did you leave me behind?"
Ashina explained to me that when I was born, the pack was attacked by monster hunters. Before then, she had just lost her husband, and then had her heart broken when a man she thought would be her new solemate after a one night stand turned out to be married and decided to get back with his wife, only to find out she was pregnant shortly after. She named me after her late husband, and thought she would just raise me on her own. Until the attack came.
Ashina knew I wouldn't be safe with her, even though I was only half werewolf. So, she gave me to my human family to keep me safe. Since I was only half wolf, the hunters wouldn't find me as easily. The only problem was since I was the only werewolf in the Heartwood home, I didn't have anyone to teach me to be a werewolf, much less to control my powers.
So, before I left, in the days remaining that the circus was nearby, my birth mother taught me everything I needed to know. Werewolf training beginning later was hard, but not impossible to succeed. So, with her help, I worked very hard and eventually got the hang of my powers, but she warned me that since I started late in my training, it was essential that I learned to keep my anger in check, or risk losing control of transforming.
Present Day... (No P.O.V)
"After that," said Garrett. "I kept on practicing. Mariposa was the only person I ever told of this, and I've been able to keep it in check. I just never expected Goldie to start the pup stage so soon."
According to Garrett, young werewolves usually entered the pup stage early on in life, but it depended on how much wolf was in their blood. For pups whose parents are both werewolves, they usually entered at age five, but if only one parent was a werewolf, it started out between the ages of 7 and 10, and usually the males started earlier than the females. Since Goldie was the offspring of a father who was half werewolf, her parents estimated she wouldn't enter the pup stage until much later.
"So, you knew about this too?" Padme said, looking at Mariposa.
"I knew Garrett was half werewolf, but not exactly how he discovered it. He gave me the short version." Mariposa said.
"All this time, is that why you always get frozen and stuff whenever you get angry?" Boba asked Garrett.
"Yes. Since I started training later, keeping transformations under control was harder, and I have to be more vigilant with my emotions."
"Does the rest of your family know about it?" Lamenta asked.
"Not that I'm aware of." Garrett said. "My parents made Nani and me keep it secret that they ever had a falling out from our younger siblings, or that Dad ever had a child with another woman. I suppose they thought it was the only way to ensure the family stayed together, and that it wouldn't impact their future marriages. I hated keeping it, though. It was one reason I felt so different in my family, and I couldn't talk about it with anyone. I never even told Mahani before or after I ran off."
"Well, if this affects Goldie, is there anything we can do to help her?" Anakin asked.
"Thank you, Anakin. But, there's not much you can do. It's in her blood, and she already has a special necklace I gave her."
Garrett rolled up his sleeve to show a bracelet of black jade with an amethyst on his wrist. He explained to the family that he gave Goldie a necklace made out of the same materials because those two stones carried magical components known to keep emotions and dreams in check, thus allowing young werewolves to sleep peacefully, keep peace of mind, and aid in practicing self-control, thus taming the beast inside them. His birth mother gave him that bracelet before he left.
"And your mom is the queen of the werewolves?" Gabby said. "So, you're also a prince?"
"Pretty much. I haven't seen her in a long time. But she told me I'm always welcome to return to the pack if I so choose. Only reason I didn't is because I'm not sure if my wife's species would be accepted even among the so-called monsters of most Halloween stories."
Everyone was still pretty shocked to learn that their teacher/friend was a werewolf, but it did explain a lot of things. Ever since they met him, they'd noticed he went crazy with meat, and that any time he shaved or got his hair cut it grew right back less than two days later. It also explained why he was so good at sports and adapting to life in the forest, and why he sometimes covered his ears like someone was shrieking in high C while no one else could hear anything. But, it especially explained all the howling they heard every night of a full moon, his eyes changing and the growling every time he was angry or frustrated, and especially that one time he grabbed a tentacle with his jaws and mangled it like a chew toy. But, it was hard to say they would fear him now that they knew he was a werewolf, seeing as he used his abilities to save lives.
Everyone started to think again; Mariposa and her family had to hide their heritage just to stay alive, which didn't make it easy to find work. While being an environmentalist was a dream job for her, she longed to be a doctor too. Medical professionals who knew about maricambas' biology were a rarity now, and getting into medical school does not exactly come easy if you have big wings to hide all the time, thus making it hard to get a job to pay for the tuition. Sadly, they couldn't say Garrett had it much easier.
Werewolves were often stereotyped as wild animals, and it frustrated Garrett enough that his parents didn't accept that he wanted to pursue a career in education, but probably even more so that his parents made him keep a secret about who he was, and what happened between their parents before they were even born.
Now everybody had questions about things they didn't cover in the lesson.
"Do you have night vision like regular wolves do?" Gabby asked.
"Yes."
"What kind of werewolf are you?" Kara asked.
"Well, my birth mother is a Purebred Moonlight, a very rare breed of wolf in a rarer class called Alpha Sky, named so after the fact that their fur is most commonly silver as the moon or golden as the sun, and they are believed to run the speed and light up like that of a shooting star. Since I'm half wolf, I'm what's referred to as a half-bred, which is said to be a kinder term than mutt."
"Can you run as fast as a shooting star?" Carmine asked.
"Not yet. Partially because I'm only half wolf and because I still require practice with that."
"What about Grandma Donna? She's still my grandma, right?"
"Of course she is, Goldie. And she's also still my mother." Garrett said. "I guess you could say I have two mothers like Carmine does."
"Will we ever get to meet them?"
"If you want to, Sweetie, we can meet them one day. Right now, there's another lesson we need to address, and it involves everyone."
Since Garrett started sharing his lesson plans with the Jedi and educating them on the Enchanted world, many Jedi became smarter about how to handle certain magical creatures despite not having magic powers themselves. Garrett even showed them how to use a wand and make potions. You didn't need to be a fairy godmother to be able to use a wand. Ordinas just needed a trained Enchanted to help you bond with the wand. But this lesson, it was going to be a little different.
"I've been noticing on occasion that when you've faced various villains, a few of you, not naming names, seemed to have a little difficulty with teamwork. I will say, I have seen it mostly when and if any of you were left to ride a different horse than your own."
"I make it clear I'm a fast flyer," said Zipp. "You need a strong stomach if you wanna ride me."
Obi-Wan felt his stomach hurt as he recalled when he rode Zipp once.
"Don't remind me." Obi-Wan said. "Bleh!"
"See, that's what I'm talking about." Garrett said. "All of you fought in a war with a bunch of clones trained to follow the same orders, but... in everyday scenarios, you may not get to choose who you work with, and in some cases, you may have to work with people who have different ideas than you. Now, Queen Reigna's Equinary had never been wrong in matching each of you with a horse that would become like family to you. But, in the spirit of practicing teamwork and adaptability, in this lesson, everyone will be switching horses."
Everyone, at first, thought that idea was crazy. But Garrett howled again to get everyone to quiet down.
"I know, it sounds like a big change. But it's only temporary. And, don't worry, Master Mundi, I'll make sure it doesn't interfere with Comedia's education."
"How exactly will re-matching each of us work?" Peppermint asked.
"Simple." Garrett took out a top hat that had little cards on it. "Everyone, pick out a card, and it will have the name of which horse you will be assigned the next few weeks. Who would like to go first?"
"I will." Omega said.
Omega reached in and pulled out a card.
"I got Diamond."
That prompted Diamond to walk up to her new temporary rider, but she looked up hesitantly at Kara.
"Go ahead, Diamond." Kara said.
So, Diamond went up to Omega and rubbed up against her like a cat to its owner.
"Alright, who's next?" Garrett chuckled.
So, everyone took a turn picking a name out of the hat, and the matched were as follows:
- Tech & Comedia
- Wrecker & Zipp
- Crosshair & Magenta
- Echo & Indira
- Hunter & Citrus
- Goldie & Emeraldi
- Mona & Buttercup
- Kara & Strawberry Sundae
- Lamenta & Fiesta
- Anakin & Maybelle
- Carmine Jinn & Sunheart
- Gabby & Peppermint
- Boba & Hydrangea
- Obi-Wan & Teatra
- Ahsoka & Sapphire
- Plo Koon & Estrella
- Shaak Tii & Crescent
- Mace & Carousella
- Myra & Remix
- Kit Fisto & Banjo
- Saesee Tinn & Round n' Round
- Eeth Koth & Harmony
- Yoda & Pinto
- Ki-Adi Mundi & Grassi
The horses all went to their new temporary riders, though some were more reluctant than others. That went for some riders as well.
"Huh, all Mona and I do is switch." Goldie said.
"You sure this is a good idea?" Echo said, petting Indira's muzzle.
"I'm sure." Garrett said.
Ki-Adi, of course, was very stern when he spoke to Tech about watching his daughter.
"Make sure you keep her warm, don't forget to make sure she stays on top of her studies, and make sure she has her panda bear at bedtime."
"Daaad.' Comedia groaned, hearing her father sound overprotective.
"I will note every detail of instruction to ensure Comedia Evermare-Mundi is well cared for and disciplined in her studies."
"Don't forget to brush Carousella's mane at least fifty times before bed, Uncle Mace." Gabby said. "It gets really unruly if you don't."
Citrus sniffed Hunter some and seemed a bit nervous. Hunter patted his muzzle and said, "You and I will get along just fine. I hope."
