Okay, so I noticed I was spelling Juraian's wrong this entire time. Whoops, I'll fix it, eventually. Maybe. Ya'll knew what I meant. I might also go back and do some editing finally in Sensei Ranma part 1. Went back and started rereading it and boy was I in a hurry. Those first few chapters are rough. Embarrassing really. How'd ya'll let me get away with that?
-Story Start-
With a light sigh, Ranma opened his eyes to a ceiling of near perfect white marble. The large four poster bed didn't really fit everyone, but they had set up their own little rotation of who slept with who depending on the night or who wanted to get what special activities done. Last night Makoto have cajoled him into a night of sticky sweetness that even now he still felt like some remnants were left, but as he untangled himself from the taller girl's lusciously long legs, Ranma smiled as she murmured cutely in her sleep and latched onto an equally worn out Akane. Beyond them was Shampoo, snuggling Akane between them while snoring quietly into the shorter woman's hair. Battle sisters indeed. A memory of sweet honey and rough buds entered his mind and Ranma had to shake his head to rid himself of the thoughts.
Rolling to the floor and stretching, careful not to wake the ever ready Minako in his movements, Ranma retrieved his silk sleeping pants from the floor where they had fallen. He took a moment to appreciate the blonde, hair splayed out like a bright halo in the early morning light, before a deep snore broke the image. Chuckling to himself he made his way to the hallway and opened the door. He took one last look back at the full bed, smiling at the women he loved all resting there, before silently closing the door behind him and padding his way towards the baths. He should record her one of these days, show her how much of a dainty sleeper she was.
Cycling chi and magic though his body, Ranma certainly didn't have to worry about the cold. Advanced technology did keep the palace a comfortable temperature most of the time, but he was a Phoenix. He preferred it slightly warmer than most and he wasn't going to ask Usagi to warm things up and bother everyone else. The hallways were empty, only a few early risers besides him were up and about at this time. Night shift workers, mostly techies and cleaning crews, but certainly worth their weight for keeping operations moving while everyone else got to rest. He'd have to get Usagi to thank the night crew one of these days. Something to show their efforts were appreciated.
It didn't take long to reach the bath, stripping once more and washing himself of honey and sweat before making it to the warm waters. Lowering himself once more and enjoying the peace and quiet, he let his senses and mind wander as he considered his schedule for today. He knew Usagi wanted to meditate with him this morning, though he wasn't about to wake her before she was ready. He had made the mistake of waking his pregnant wife early once already. A cranky Usagi was a hard hitting Usagi. Never again.
Though it seemed he didn't have to worry about that, a mischievous and bubbly mirth passed through his magical link with Usagi, and he noted she was awake. Figuring he would see her soon, Ranma looked up to the Earth far above them, the sun beginning to reflect off of its surface with the dawn of a new day.
It didn't take long for his Queen to reach him, giggling as she slid into the waters with him and leaned into his side. "I feel like a naughty kid who snuck out for a something forbidden."
Hugging her with one arm as Usagi laid her head on his shoulder, Ranma began his meditations. "Think you're really ready for this. It can be, jarring."
"I wouldn't be up this early if I wasn't. I almost couldn't go to sleep last night I was so excited. Though I hear you had a lot of fun. Think you finally gave Makoto what she wanted?" Usagi looked up to him with bright blue eyes, trying to wheedle an answer out of him that he knew but wasn't about to give. Life and rebirth was his domain, he knew which of the women were and weren't pregnant as soon as it happened. But he wouldn't go spoiling the surprise.
"You'll just have to wait and see, like everyone told you too."
"Poo."
"You have patience."
"Pooo. It's exciting is all." Twitching and launching into laughter as Ranma's fingers danced along her sides, Usagi eventually calmed and further linked her magic with his. "Anything I should be careful of?"
"Your urges are going to be much much stronger there. Do not give in to them. Focus on your goals, our family, returning home. Focus on me. That's step one." Considering Usagi was coming along, Ranma figured he could use the Moon to travel this time, preparing to dive into its magical ley-lines once Usagi was settled and ready.
"Okay, no running off on my own and no funny business. Got it."
"We'll see. Now relax. Focus on your breathing. Think Chi exercises. Feel your magic gather and build, settle in low in your core and then release it back to the world." Ranma calmed himself, eyes closing as he led her through the motions. "In and out…back and forth."
Listening to Ranma's calming voice, Usagi leaned into him and let her eyes close as she did as he instructed. He was always so good at teaching her…all of them really. It made picking up his techniques and teachings easy. Well. Easier than they probably would be with anyone else. Following her magic, in one breath she was home. The warm bath water soothing her skin and providing some relief for her heavy belly. In the next she could feel warmth, a breeze along her skin, a sweet smell of lavender and lilac. Opening her eyes, she found herself in a wide and open field. Birds flew overhead, and if she didn't know any better a tree larger than any she had ever seen in her life stood tall in the distance. Larger than any mountain she had ever seen, if this had been on Earth it might very well reach space.
Chuckling, Ranma wrapped an arm around her middle. "Interesting, isn't it?"
Looking down at herself, Usagi noted she was dressed in a white and very flowing dress. Not her normal attire or her Serenity gown. More Greek maybe? Like those old togas she saw in history books. "It's, amazing." But the life here, magic suffused everything she saw. And as Ranma began to lead them along, she marveled at everything.
Feeling another pull as before, Ranma led them along, coming free from the field of flowers they had arrive in to find a thin game trail that led them towards what looked like a cliff. It housed a lone tree, full and elderly. What looked like golden apples hanging from its lower branches. "Remember, don't get distracted."
"I won't." Voice trailing off, Usagi noted several curious faces watching them from the grass. Tilting her head to try to puzzle them out, she jumped as literal fairies burst from the tall grass, floating about her head before flitting off into the distance trailing light and dust. "Waaah."
Another shake of his head, Ranma continued to pull Usagi along. "Feels like you could stay here forever, huh?"
Nodding as they began to climb the hill, Usagi could see further out into the distance. There was a grand lake far below them, and fluffy white clouds actually floating by underneath them. How high up were they? Why wasn't it hard for her to breath up here? "Um."
"This is the Astral Plane. Your physical body is back home, still in the bath."
"Right. I-I knew that." Getting a tickle to the side, Usagi pouted and poked Ranma in return. "No teasing."
"I would never." He could see at the base of the tree there was a wide flat area. A table was set up, carved black stone by the look of it, and someone else was waiting for them. Rather, he should say that someone else was already here, another woman, hair a striking platinum. "Huh." He recognized her actually from the first time he came to the in-between. Tan skin, black pants and a white tank top. Only this time the little green haired girl wasn't present.
Usagi leaned in, catching sight of the other woman as well, "Is that the Gardener?"
"No. Someone else." Ranma shrugged, every time he came here it seemed he met someone new. Maybe he would get a name this time.
It didn't take long to make it up the hill, coming within easy speaking distance of the long haired woman watching the scenery before them. Usagi finally let go of Ranma, coming to the edge of the cliff to look out over the expanse of land underneath them. Beyond the lake was a great forest, which from Ranma's last trip she figured that was where he initially ended up. But beyond that was a large plain, one that surrounded the base of the great tree. She could almost make out what looked like buildings. A settlement? Maybe a town. Did Kami live here full time then? A bird flew directly in front of her, buzzing the cliff side and calling back to her loudly. Surprised but unhurt, Usagi reached up and shook a first and the three eyed thing with a frown. "Meanie!"
Chuckling, the woman finally put down her drink with a smile, "Careful with that one. They have a certain penchant for pranks."
Waiting for Usagi to return to his side, Ranma helped her into a seat across from their companion for the day. "This is Usagi. You wanted me to bring her last time."
"That I did little brother. Glad to see you remembered. I was starting to worry." Smiling though her eyes remained closed, the woman reached over the table with her hand outstretched, "You may call me Vel. I am, a bit of a recluse when compared to the rest of the Deity here."
Shaking the other woman's hand, Usagi smiled at the warmth she could feel, "It is nice to meet you Vel. Sorry I haven't come to visit yet. Been so busy back home."
"I've seen. Having your people to care for, and so directly. You must care for them deeply."
Nodding as Ranma began to wander around the tree, Usagi folded her hands together in her lap, "I do. I love all of my people. I just. Wish I could do more for them."
"Many Ethereal beings who gather followers feel as such. At first at least. Time however, is the real test." Vel took hold of a very ornate jade and gold teapot, pouring a golden liquid into a more simple tea cup and offering it to Usagi, "Care for a drink? There's nothing like it in all the realms."
Gladly taking the offering, Usagi bowed her head lightly, "Thank you, yes I'd love to try it." Taking a small sip, heat and power near instantly filled her being. Warmth, sensation, so many things all at once. She felt both as powerful as she had ever felt and like she had just gone ten rounds alone with Ranma. "Oh my."
Another small smile as she refilled her cup, Vel raised it to Usagi in a toast, "Ambrosia usually does have that effect for the uninitiated."
Doing her best not to down her drink all in one go, Usagi let her senses flow freely to take in her surroundings. Ranma was right, if she wasn't careful she would probably float away on her own. It felt like the world itself called to her. Begged her to stay. To enjoy its warmth. To share in its love. Only, Ranma's love was more dear to her. She could never trade that away. "I will have to come visit more, though sparingly."
"Careful, many say that, only to fall to the call."
Ranma finally made his trip around the tree, coming to stand behind his wife and placing his hands on her shoulders to massage them gently. "There's a warning I'm taking to heart." Even now with his second visit, the call was strong. His soul cried out to fly, to soar among the clouds. Though he knew it would have him then, and he wouldn't be returning home for a long, long time.
"I'm sure there are many lessons you've done as much with. More yet to learn." Vel took another sip of her drink, before setting down her tea cup and tray. "You've returned, which means you have questions."
Eyes once more trailing into the distance, Ranma nodded towards the tree, "The Gardener told me about a method of gathering my power, I just assumed that would have to happen here."
"Hmm. Gardener…is that what he's calling himself lately. The old horny bastard." Vel was still smiling, even though she leaned back in her seat, one elegant leg sliding to cross over the other. "Well that is a yes and a no. Your journey, and thus confronting the sins, can happen both here and in the mortal realm. It is a spiritual journey after all. It is your soul that you are attuning as you wish." Pointing at Ranma without looking, Vel continued on, "At the end of your journey, perhaps you will remember your true name."
"True name?" Pausing in her drink, Usagi blinked as she watched Vel return her attention to her. "You mean, like how I'm Usagi, but also Serenity?" The young Queen didn't really like the laughter that left Vel, but at least it didn't seem mocking.
"Oh no. No no. Serenity is not your true name. That is more of a title. Much like Moon Goddess or Crystal Queen. No we all have a true name. Something bestowed to our soul from the crucible itself." Vel sighed, crossing her arms and unintentionally lifting her modest bust, "You must be careful with it. To speak your true name to another is to allow them power over yourself. You can do much with someone's name. Especially here. Good, or for ill."
Ranma didn't like the sound of that, not at all. "What if someone guesses it? Says it without meaning to."
"Then nothing. If there is no intention behind it, then there is no effect. One must know what they are doing with it after all. Reality follows will."
Stepping back once more to put his hands on his hips as Usagi returned to her drink, Ranma considered that. So along with finding and learning to use his power, he would also have to learn his true name? It was almost like every stone overturned yielded yet more questions. A long journey indeed. "Well, can't say that deters me. I was in it for the long haul anyway. What's a few extra steps."
"That's the spirit. Oh, and I wouldn't accept any challenges from other Kami. Not yet at least. You are used to fighting in the mortal realm, but here there is a…subtlety to things you will miss without some practice." Vel took another sip, and Ranma caught something there. A disturbance in the flow around them. Ah. Speaking from experience then.
"I'll keep that in mind." Watching Usagi nearly finish her drink, Ranma leaned a bit towards Vel, "I have a question, about another Goddess."
Oh? That was fast. "I will help if I can. Secrets however, come with a price."
Thinking about it, Ranma figured straight to the point was best, "Do you know about another Goddess? Young girl, well, half Goddess maybe? Sasami. Also one half of her is called Tsunami." It wasn't much, but Vel did twitch, a subtle movement in her shoulders. "You know them then?"
"Know. Of them at least." Vel sighed, smile finally slipping some as she turned down to face her drink. "You're speaking of one of the three. Goddesses who disconnected themselves from the Great Tree. Searching for an answer all their own. Tsunami is the, youngest of the three. But make no mistake, she has power. More than you as you are now."
Usagi raised a hand, now curious about the subject, "You said they disconnected themselves from the Great Tree. Why? Why would anyone want to do that?" Usagi had only been here for a short while, and she couldn't imagine wanting to willingly cut herself off from this place. She would limit her visits sure, but completely cut off? It was, too sad.
Instead it was Vel who shrugged, "Many a deity do so for one reason or another. Some because they can no longer resist the call of the tree. Some because they believe they can attain more power outside of the system, or believe they can escape punishment if they distance themselves. Others, because they search for something that they believe the Tree is hiding from them. Yet others, because they can no longer bear the weight of their time, and wish to die." Pausing as Ranma and Usagi stiffened and watched her cautiously, Vel sighed and folded her hands on the table. "Tsunami and her sisters, they disconnected themselves so they could search for an answer. The same answer any being eventually asks, especially mortals. Why are we here?"
Blinking and deciding that Kami might just be as convoluted as people, Ranma shrugged, "One of those sisters wouldn't happen to be named Tokimi, would they?"
"Two sisters already, my you do work fast. I heard the rumors, but seeing is believing."
Tilting a bit as Usagi giggled, Ranma shook his head, "It's not like that."
"I'd hope not. Tokimi would make you her puppy given the chance. But yes, one of the three sisters. Careful of that one, she likes to, manipulate, mortals."
Ranma sighed, Goddesses playing games, go figure. "No chance you could tell us where they are can you?"
"Now what sort of big sister would I be if I stunted your journey?" Though Vel did lean forward slightly, "Unless there's a price you're willing to pay." Tone playful, but Ranma knew better.
Of course it wouldn't be that easy, but at least he could say he tried. Chuckling as Usagi finished her tea, Ranma finally took note of it. "Looks good."
Another melodious giggle met their ears as Vel once more filled her own cup, "Oh for us it is divine. Though for you, well, it might very well be maddening."
Blinking and taking half a moment to puzzle that out, Ranma decided to let it go. He had fallen into enough traps involving drugged food and drinks to last a few lifetimes. "I'll take your word for it then."
"Good man. A credit to your sex." Vel drank deeply once more, before pointing out towards the World Tree. "Over the next few visits you should make for the tree. I'm sure you'll meet some interesting characters along the way." Humming as she thoughts about it, Vel directed her attention more to Usagi, "If you meet a blonde woman calling herself Bel, tell her I said hello. We have not seen each other in such a long time."
Could she have been any more obvious? Ranma sighed and nodded his head, "Any pointers before then?"
"Well, you can always visit me again and bring your lovely wife. I'm sure we'll have a grand time getting to know one another."
Usagi smiled and nodded, having finished her drink and set down her empty cup. "I would love that. Though, I don't mean to be rude…why don't you open your eyes at all?"
"Hmm? Oh. Force of habit I suppose." One eye did open, only a crack in the end as a blazing universe met them. "Not many can look upon me and remain themselves. Though I suppose, as old a soul as Ranma holds and as powerful as you will be, you'll be fine. One day. To meet my full gaze."
Feeling something stir in him, Ranma nodded slowly as Vel closed her eye once more, "Y-yeah. Maybe." That hadn't happened the last time he was here. Maybe because he was more in tune now? "Oh, what happened to the squirt?"
"Little Stella? Oh she's around. I'm sure you'll run into her along your trip. She'll be so happy to finally see you again." Vel once more went to watching the scenery, while Usagi levered herself out of her seat.
Bowing deeply to their host, Usagi offered her one more smile, "Thank you, for having us. We'll come again, I promise."
Waving as the pair began to back away, Vel nodded to them both, "I shall await your return. Feel free to come visit me without the muscle head as well. I'm sure there's much we can gossip about."
Giggling and bowing once more, Usagi and Ranma both turned to walk away, back down the hill and towards the forest. Above them a bird called out, and a trio of rabbits crossed their path to dart into the tall grass.
Usagi leaned into Ranma's side as they left, "Now I'm all warm and content. Hey, think it'd be a bad idea to have some fun time here?"
"I absolutely think it'd be a bad idea. Our perception of time might get all wonky." Looking up as Usagi giggled, Ranma spied a flock of birds fleeing from a larger falcon. Even here urges remained he supposed.
"Boo. Maybe next time." Usagi said that, but she certainly planned on jumping him when they awoke back in their real bodies. She was hot, probably because of the drink.
Feeling the subtle pull of their flesh bodies, Ranma took a breath and pulled. Where once were lush fields and a clear open sky, they were once more back in the Royal bath of the Moon Palace. Opening his eyes and breathing in deeply, Ranma savored the feeling of Usagi cuddled into his side. "Well that was a trip."
A half breath behind him, Usagi nodded and wrapped her arms around him to hug him tightly. "Though, what we learned. It's sad isn't it? That anyone would want to part with such a wonderful place? What could be so important, so driving, that you would disconnect yourself from that?"
"Intelligent beings all seek to answer the mysteries of their world. Humanity takes to religion, philosophy, science to figure out the great mysteries of their world. It would make sense then that divine beings would seek their own answers eventually. Well. Those that are curious enough I suppose." Ranma had to figure, for Kami with the power to change reality as they saw fit, most might not have any interest in understanding more than what they are. They had a purpose, was that not enough?
Feeling something stir in her husband, Usagi tried to soothe him, filling him with her love and happiness as she floated backwards a bit. "Hey hey, none of that. We still have a few days to relax and enjoy family time. We can get back to work and nonsense after that."
Rolling his head one direction and then the other, Ranma had to agree. He could shelve it for later. "You're right. So. What does that mean for us right now?" Smirk on his face, he floated forward as Usagi floated away from him.
"Well, we're all alone in the bath. It's still early, so no one should be up for a few hours." Creating some distance, she giggled as Ranma picked up the pace, magic now added to the mix.
Humming, Ranma noted Usagi beginning to float out of the water, multicolored wings sprouting from her back to allow her to take flight. "Hmm, you know, we haven't had much one on one time lately."
Watching Ranma match her, wings of gentle fire lifting him into the air to dance with her, Usagi watched the light dance in his eyes. "Craving your first wife are you? You can't get me double pregnant you know, not that you haven't tried your best."
"So? You saying you don't enjoy my…" Hands coming up to wiggle his fingers, Ranma bounced his eyebrows in time, "Talents?"
Shaking her head and giggling, Usagi once more danced away from his questing hands, "That was terrible." Do it again.
"You like it, you just won't admit it."
"I plead the fifth."
"Setsuna's law teachings are finally sinking in." More giggling from his wife and Ranma smiled. Both circled around one another in a delicate dance under the stars, "We should go dancing. We haven't in a while."
"That sounds lovely. Should we throw a ball? You know, for when the Juraian's arrive?" Any excuse to party in her book. Put on something fun, something that showed they didn't want war. Show that they were here with hands and arms open in friendship.
"You're thinking about work again."
Smile dipping into a sultry smirk, Usagi crooked a finger his way, beckoning him forward, "Well, why don't you give me sufficient distraction then husband?"
Wings spreading wide, Ranma increased his link with Usagi, "Ask and you shall receive wife of mine!"

Far away from Earth and Sol system, Kiyone and Mihoshi docked with the migrating Galaxy Police headquarters. This felt like home to Kiyone, not the ramshackle apartment she and Mihoshi could barely afford on Earth. The chaos of the central office. Cases to be solved, high profile criminals to be hunted down, her previously near perfect career that would have seen her climbing the ladder. Perhaps even to one day land herself as the Commander herself. Well. Once. A dream long dead and buried, thanks to one klutzy blonde who was equal parts the luckiest woman alive, and somehow the center of all the chaos in the Universe.
Mihoshi walked along just behind her, the clean white halls and dull red carpet almost unchanged from their last visit, though this time they weren't on report. Or here for reprimand. Or for a discipline hearing. No today was something new. Something different. Almost as soon as they had submitting their report about the Phoenix King over deep space translink and his request for an audience with the Jurai Royal family they had received a communique. Return. Short and simple. If Kiyone was a betting woman she would put all of her salary on something majorly wrong going down. Even now as they crossed out of the transport hub and into the main offices, she could see it. It was just shy of pandemonium here, the noise near deafening, paperwork scattered and phones constantly ringing. No. Something was in fact very, very wrong.
"What do you think is going on Kiyone? Some new bad guy trashing the Galaxy maybe?" Mihoshi had a curious look on her face as she put a finger to her lips. Both women had dawned their uniforms, pressed and cleaned to the best of their ability, though Kiyone did have to reach back and adjust Mihoshi's pom tool.
"I don't know. But it can't be good." Kiyone remembered the last time things had gone this crazy. Cain. That monster of a being that had broken subspace containment and nearly ended their lives. Time travel, battles between ancient gods. Again, both lucky and unlucky she supposed. Reaching the rear elevators, she selected the second to last section in the upper levels. Management. Section commanders and where they needed to report to. Maybe they would get some answers there. Or at least, hand in their reports and answer whatever questions were required before they could return to Earth. To the Masaki family.
The elevator rose, the glass walls giving them clear views of the massive complex they called Headquarters. Even as they watched, they could oversee the docking bays and the planet below. A gas giant that offered beautiful blues and greens. But Kiyone could see it. Ships, massive amounts of ship, large cruisers like hers, but even more. Battleships, destroyers. These were warships. No. Something was really, really wrong. "No…"
"Kiyone?" Mihoshi could see it, some part of her able to put two and two together and coming up correct that things were not normal. "Somethings happened. Worse than when Tenchi and the others got involved with that Kagato mess. Maybe worse even than that Cain incident."
Kiyone nodded, the elevator climbing through a bulkhead and depriving them of their view of the space outside. "I think so Mihoshi. And I don't think we want any part of it." Kiyone was a police office. A law enforcer. She wasn't a soldier nor did she want to be. What ever the GP was getting strong armed into, she wanted to be far from here when it went down.
Elevator opening, both women stepped out to see things much more calm here. Long rows of secretary desks and officers cubicles, Kiyone noted that many of the senior staff were out. It was mainly low level functionaries here. Pulling her pom and fixing it into her terminal she checked and rechecked to make sure they were supposed to be here. Were they early? As they walked towards the rear of the room, both women were blocked from continuing by two individuals in black armor. Neither said a word as they stared down at them and that only set Kiyone further on edge.
"Who are you, you're in our way."
One of them held out a hand, a holographic projection showing Kiyone's face. Below that scrolled her badge number, personnel number, and began to scroll much more personal information than anyone had any right to have on her. "Officer, with us, this way." Hand closing and cutting off the image, the taller man turned to walk off to the right, away from the rear offices.
Kiyone frowned and took a step in front of Mihoshi to stop her from blindly following. "Hey wait a minute. We aren't military, we don't take orders from you."
The man didn't even look back, "But you do take orders, and currently they are to follow me."
Grunting as the other soldier stood behind them and waited, Kiyone noted that no one in the vicinity even looked their way. Not good. "Mihoshi."
"Got you partner." Mihoshi was already reaching for her pom.
"Don't be stupid." The second soldier spoke up, no obvious weapons on hand but the helmet flashed an eery green where the eyes would have been. Right, they were still in headquarters. Running wasn't an option.
"Come on Mihoshi. Let's get this over with and go back home."
Nodding and letting Kiyone lead her on, Mihoshi took in everything that she could while they walked.
They were escorted through the offices, towards a long hall with doors on either side. Interrogation rooms, though for the cushier sort. These were for white color criminals. The types that could buy themselves the best lawyers in the Galaxy. The types the GP had to handle with kid gloves, less they pay out the nose in lawsuits. The lead soldier opened a door, motioning inside. "This way. She's waiting."
Quirking an eyebrow, Kiyone entered the room first and broke out into a cold sweat almost right away. No way. No no no. This was bad. Really really bad.
Sitting at a desk and locking eyes with the green haired GP officer, Lady Seto smirked and pointed at her. "Be a dear would you and come in. You have information for me, and I'm getting rather tired of waiting."
Mihoshi looked over Kiyone's shoulder, blinking and taking in the focused red eyes of the woman sitting before them. Royal purple robes and light teal hair, this was a Juraian Royal. Someone said to have even more power than the emperor Azuza himself. No one crossed Lady Seto. Ever.
"You heard me didn't you, come in. We have things to discuss." Seto didn't mind the door being closed from outside. Her orders were to make sure they would not be disturbed. Her words would become reality. "Tell me about this…Phoenix King."
"I think we've figured out the bad thing Kiyone."
"Yeah partner. Think we have."
"Oh girls, flattery won't save you. Come come, sit." They had so much to talk about.

To the Phoenix, the original tribe, mastery over the heavens and the skies made them better than the land dwellers that scuttled below them. It was easy, to look down on those who could not ever hope to see the world and its beauty in the same way they could. Beholden to the mercy of gravity? Hah. Even a Phoenix child could soar through the air much as the brave eagles and clever falcons.
But time had changed them, their new Lord and Kami opening their eyes to the folly of such thoughts and beliefs. Even a land dweller could reach up and pluck them from the skies, change the very fabric of who and what they were. More. He showed them that even those that called the land home could embody the same spirit they did. Cunning, daring, courage. Loyalty. All traits the Phoenix held dear, and many a land dweller thought and felt much the same. Times had changed, and the Phoenix had as well. Now they joined hands with the other tribes, and grew better for it as a result.
It helped, when the Kami's chosen was also a Queen and leader of an Empire of people who traveled the stars. The Phoenix thought they ruled the heavens? Never had they been corrected so thoroughly. Such, it was easy for the new settlement on Venus to mingle and trade with both the Amazons and the Cytheran's. They were all one people now, the Phoenix humbled and open to a new reality.
As such, while it was harder these days to leave without a guard, Kiima sighed as she put down a mug of tea and took in the inviting home around her. Few places on Venus could boast that nothing short of a god could penetrate its defenses. Yet the Tendo's new home here on Venus, within a skyscraper overlooking the great lake, could say as much. Ranma was a dutiful husband, and made sure none of his women would ever want for a thing. Though as Kasumi eased herself onto the couch next to her, Kiima smiled at what other duties he was happy to keep up with. A tan hand came to rest on her own swollen belly.
"I'm happy you were able to visit, I was starting to worry that we wouldn't see you again until after our children were born." Kasumi was all smiles, Placing down a tray of tea and soft cupcakes that Kiima could admit made her mouth water. She had developed something of a sweet tooth in her pregnancy.
"Well, Husband did say he was coming to visit, and I just wanted to lower the amount of traveling he would require." It would only cut into his time if he had to travel from the Tendo's and then to the Phoenix. This way there was more to spare.
Humming and gazing out of the large bay windows on the other end of the living room, Kasumi took a sip of tea, "If you say so. I missed your company as well."
Huffing and taking a small tray of red velvet cake, Kiima happily speared off a portion with a fork, "Yes. Your company was missed as well sister Kasumi."
Drawing their attention from a bean bag chair under the windows, Nabiki waved a pen in the air, "Yes yes, we all missed one another. I'm just glad you don't have your overzealous shadows around." Korma and Masala were great and all, good at what they did sure. But once Kiima's pregnancy really started to show they had gone into overdrive. Stifling was the word Nabiki would use to be nice.
Chuckling, Kiima did have to agree, "They mean well. Once my child comes, I'll have to remind them that I am not fragile like spun glass." Not that she would worry then. Most likely their over protectiveness would switch to her child. Their Prince. A Phoenix Prince. Something wonderful in her mind. "Though I am surprised, do you not have your higher education classes today?"
"Working from home, the wonders of modern technology." Nabiki held up a tablet for Kasumi and Kiima to see, a lecture going on while she pulled an earbud from her far ear to show she was listening in as well. "Ranma and Usagi wanted us all to take a breather for a week, and I'm doing my best to comply."
Nodding along as a door closed within their home, Kasumi looked up to spy the hallway back towards the bedrooms. Not a moment later their father appeared, dressed in a comfortable looking khaki pants and tan sweater combo as he picked up his briefcase from a table along the wall. "Leaving father?"
"Oh yes. Nadoka and Genma have requested an association meeting between the Amazons and the Cytheran's. The city has built a small fleet of fishing vessels, so Amazons are requesting some, variety."
Ah, trade politics, how fun. "Well good luck father." Kasumi and Nabiki both waved as Soun made for the front door, happy to have some purpose on this new world. Something that didn't revolve around martial arts.
Listening to the door close, Kiima continued to munch away at her treat, "So, beyond making a place for yourselves and improving your knowledge. How is life here in the city?" Technologically advanced or not, it was still a city. The sounds and smells here were still something to get used to. The Phoenix no longer looked down on these people, considering them equals, but the Phoenix would always prefer the wide open mountain ranges and plains of the wilderness.
Putting down her tea and relaxing back, Kasumi thought about how things were. "Well, this is a peaceful city. While we may have struggled some at first, we are now entering a period where no one wants for anything. Well, beyond some variety of food." That was still slow going, though projections gave it another few years before that problem was solved for good. "But we make time for fun. Why, I hear we've begun our own film productions."
"I can second that. Beaming tv from Earth was all well and good, but the Crystal folks can come up with some really imaginative stuff once they're given real freedom." Oh the love drama's they had been releasing. Though certainly some influence from their King and Queen bled through into their works. But still, Nabiki couldn't put some of them down.
Blinking as something felt, out of place, Kasumi felt a brush of something familiar and smiled, "Ah, there he is."
Hearing something clatter in another room, Kiima felt a flush of warmth and smiled, "Ah, there's our Lord."
Hearing a door open and looking back once more, Kasumi smiled as Ranma and Minako joined them from wherever they had been. "Hello dear, not to busy I hope?" Minako was quick to join Kasumi and Kiima on the couch, easily settling in between the two and throwing arms over their shoulders.
Ranma was all smiles as he crossed the clean green on black room to reach Nabiki first. "Not today, Usagi's still stuck on the throne but she wanted me to tell you she misses ya'll and hopes you're okay. She'll come visit herself sooner or later." Leaning down to kiss Nabiki on the forehead, not wanting to interrupt her work, Ranma did smirk at the flush on her face. "But I did promise to stop by, and I do keep my word." Standing up straight and admiring the view from the high rise, Ranma made note of the sun's reflection off of the clear waters. He could make out fishing trawlers headed out, their water port finally seeing some use.
Watching Ranma turn back to join them, sitting on the love seat next to the couch, Kasumi offered him his own mug of tea while winking at him, "I do so wish you could visit more often. I know you have many responsibilities, but you must rest." Putting on a stern look, Kasumi put her fists on her hips, "I can play the wife card if I have too."
Chuckling and shaking his head, Ranma knew better than to get Kasumi riled up. It wasn't so much the visits, as she wanted to be sure he was taking care of himself properly. "Don't you worry, I'll make sure to increase my downtime. Kami's honor."
"You better, you and Usagi. You take too much on your shoulders." Kasumi knew that was a world she didn't necessarily want anything to do with. She was a healer and she loved helping others. Just on a smaller scale. She didn't want to run and mold nations. So long as she could reach a few people, that was enough for her. "But you'll stay here tonight won't you?"
"I will yeah, but I do have to make a stop down to the academy, want to check in on the trainees, make sure things are coming along safely." Until Rei's world was renewed, it was on Venus to instruct the next generation of warriors. Something he made sure to assist with when he could.
Relaxing back as she released Kiima from her grip, Minako sighed and rubbed her own shoulder, "I can't wait until we can scale that back. From my memories, my role was usually to train the Queen's elite guard, not the rank and file. That was Rei's thing."
Nabiki couldn't help but quip as she jotted some notes down in her notebook, "Oh we all know what you would rather be doing."
"Damn right, I had a vision and I want to see it a reality."
Rolling his eyes, Ranma relaxed back as Minako finally chose a yellow and sprinkled cupcake for herself, "Don't you think you should relax some? It doesn't have to happen all at once." Ranma smiled as Minako gave him a wink, "And remember, Setsuna did say it was merely a possibility."
"Oh I know. But com'on, the…activities are so much fun aren't they?" Here Minako's eyes flash with her planetary magic, the sigil for Venus flaring on her forehead. "Or do you wanna deny it?" Even though it was oh so tempting, she held back from linking her magic with his. On her world and now with his link here as well? Kasumi and the others may not be able to handle the backlash.
"You're hopeless." Kiima spoke up, polishing off her cake and sighing with satisfaction. Kasumi always had the best treats. "You give in to your desires so easily."
Turning to her sister wife with a smile, Minako exuded all of the Venutian magical power that she could get away with in such a confined space, "You know what it's like. Think you could hold back when an oh so tasty morsel is in front of you?" Minako leaned into the tanned woman, smirking as Kiima began to flush, "Even if Ranma called for you?"
Eyes coming up to lock with Ranma's, Kiima's thighs rubbed together as she did in fact know what it was like. Instead of giving the Venus Queen the satisfaction of being correct, Kiima instead leaned forward and chose a new cake. Double chocolate this time, "You're right, holding back makes no sense, and I am so hungry."
Leaning forward himself, Ranma flicked Minako on the forehead. The distraction broke her concentration and her magic returned to the ether, "There's a time and a place for that. You can burn off steam later."
"Oh if you say so." Minako shrugged and finally relaxed completely, taking her cake and beginning to savor it alongside Kiima. "You can't deny me all day long. I'll have you yet."
Knowing she was probably right, Ranma turned and shared a look with a bemused Kasumi, "See what I have to put up with?"
"Hmm, but you handle it so well. Such a good husband you are." Idly licking her lips, Kasumi smiled and returned to her tea. Mentally she had plans for her own for tonight, though she should probably warn father. Maybe suggest an overnight stay with Auntie and Uncle? She could do that.
Kiima held up her fork, pointing it at her lord with a smile, "Well if you are going to attend the academy, I would not be opposed to tagging along." It had been a while since she had led their troops through morning drills or training. The Phoenix here had no enemies to worry about and thus their warrior numbers were low. Ranma's orders had been to increase their numbers after all, not prepare for war.
Kasumi hummed at that, considering the time, "Well I do have to attend the hospital for the afternoon, but I'll be back tonight. How about you, little sister?"
Nabiki turned their way, humming as she considered her own schedule. "Well, I've decided to run remotely today and tomorrow. So I'll be free all day." Shrugging as she eyed Ranma, she nodded his way. "I could tag along. Who knows, might learn something at the military academy."
Minako finished off her cake, smirking and snapping her fingers, "Sounds like we have a plan for the day then. Let's go be adults for a while, and then come home and relax with each other."
Polishing off her second cake, Kiima was up and weaving her way around the others, approaching Ranma to slide into his lap with a giggle. "So long as I get to spend time with our Lord, the place does not matter." Smiling as Ranma placed a rough hand on her belly, she enjoyed the warmth of his body and his magic filling her, "No. This is all I need."
Seeing that his day was going to end up busy anyway, Ranma relaxed and enjoyed a woman he loved in his lap. Best to just enjoy it. While they could.

Once more, Mamoru questioned just what he was doing with himself today, finding his way to the beach instead of returning home to his quiet and rather lonely apartment. He still hadn't thrown away the letter. The temptation it offered was, admittedly, very good. A spot on the world stage, and chance to make something of himself. And he wouldn't have to debase himself for it, instead it would all come down to his power as Earth's King. Well, re-incarnated sure but even so. He was of royal blood, at one time King of Earth, just as Usagi was the Queen of the Moon. A match destined through time, a path to unite the two peoples in peace.
All he had to do was show the world that he had the power to match the Moon Queen. Which meant he had to learn reconnect himself with the magic of the old world.
Only that future had all changed. Ranma had come and like a wrecking ball smashed everything with his chaos and his arrogance. So he could fight and kill, that made him no better than a rabid dog in Mamoru's eyes. More so now that Mamoru had learned more about Ranma's past. Thefts, property damage, a crime spree that led from Japan to China and back again. Wherever he went, chaos followed, and Mamoru worried over the safety of Usagi if such an influence was allowed to stay around her. Setsuna should know better, but perhaps Ranma's corruption had gotten to her first.
The sounds of waves crashing against the beach calmed him somewhat, the sun beginning to set casting everything in orange and red. Something in his soul stirred, his magic calling to be released. So he obliged, letting his magic spread and surround a small area around himself. There was life here, peace, conflict, the never ending cycle of what it meant to struggle and live. This was Earth, his home. For once he dove deeper, taking a calming breath as a memory tried to guide him, show him the way.
In a breath he was no longer on that beach, instead when he opened his eyes again he was standing on a great mirror. Unable to tell where the blue sky ended and the floor began. He held no fear at this, his mind telling him this was where he belonged.
"Not yet, but you are on your way I suppose." A woman's voice, deep and sultry caused him to turn, coming face to face with a tanned woman in black and white, eyes closed and long white hair unbound and nearly to the floor.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Mamoru felt something in his chest tighten. Like he should know this place, a long memory forgotten to time. Like an itch he just couldn't find the correct way to scratch.
"You are in the inbetween. You do not yet have the power or connection to reach the Astral Plane. Though normally I do not think you should have gotten even this far. Perhaps you past connection to the Moon Queen assisted you?" Humming as she began to walk around the young man, the woman smiled as she circled him, "You may call me Veldora. One of many names I hold." More circling as she came around to his front once more. "No. Not like him. Certainly not."
"Not like who? I'm the King of Earth aren't I? There are no others like me." It wasn't often Mamoru gave in to the pride of his position. Sure, working with the Senshi over the years had shown him that he was not all powerful. Usagi and the others fought and died saving the world while the best he could do was assist them, buff their abilities at times. Where was his power? Where was his ability? His soul screamed that it should have more and yet he didn't. Like it was stolen from him. Something dark yet stirred within him.
"Hmmm. No, not like him at all. Something else. You crave it, a desire you must fulfill." Stopping in front of Mamoru, Veldora sighed and pointed his way. "I would advise, you should explore you power more thoroughly, before you attempt to reach this place again. There are, influences here that you may not be ready for. It is an, envious, position to have access to."
Grunting and looking around at all the nothingness, Mamoru decided that he would not be denied. He was tired of being sidelined. Tired of being overlooked. He was once a King, and he would not be denied any longer. "If there is power to be mine, then I will have it. I have a future to obtain, so I will do what I must to seize it."
"Careful young King. Your frustration may lead you down a path you cannot return from. The wrath of the very Kami may fall on you."
Taking a step towards the woman, Mamoru clenched a fist to his chest, "Frustration? Is that what you think I feel? So minor a feeling considering everything I've lost? No. No! I'm furious!" Feeling the very air vibrate with his shout, Mamoru continued to stare down the woman who would not even look at him. "I had a grand future awaiting me. My Queen at my side, a daughter on my knee and a Grand Kingdom to lead. And in a moment, one arrogant jackass took that all away from me! Everything! My Love, my everything." Chuckling darkly and taking another step, Mamoru forcefully pulled more power from his connection from Earth. "You say I'm not ready? Well maybe it is the Astral Plane that is not ready for me. I am Earth's rightful King. I will not be denied what I deserve."
"Deserve? Fascinating." Letting Mamoru come within arms length, Veldora smiled softly, "You say you will not be denied, young King. So be it. Forge your path as you will. I shall offer you no words to hinder you." Spreading her arms wide, the scenery changed. Desert, arid winds, a sun high above them and refusing to move. An unbearable heat that threatened to bake the skin and boil what water they had. "Make your way to the tree, if you can young King. Only you can truly judge yourself."
Throwing up an arm to protect his eyes from the wind and sand, Mamoru noted the woman fading from view, "Are you not here to show me the way!?"
Voice echoing above the howling wind, Veldora's chuckles were not full of mirth. "Me? Your guide? No. I only came to offer you a warning. One you do not wish to hear. So forge your path young King of Earth. Create a future through your own struggles."
Grunting as the woman fully disappeared from view, Mamoru could just make out something in the distance. A grant tree, radiating a brilliance that even from this distance was awe inspiring. So he needed to reach there did he? Fine. His memories whispered to him, that he had been through worse. He would make the time and come back. Every night if he needed to from here on. He would have his power returned to him.
Breathing deeply and letting go of his magic, Mamoru blinked and he was once more back on that beach. Looking down and flexing his right hand he could admit that he did feel a bit stronger. His magic certainly had increased. But it wasn't enough, not yet. Turning away as the sun was nearly at the horizon's edge now, he figured he should make for home. Now that he knew how to connect to the Astral Plane, he could do it from anywhere. He noted that it was quiet now, no more doubt in his mind about what he should be doing. Which meant he was doing the right thing. He was always meant to achieve his destiny by his own hands, not helping others achieve theirs from the shadows.
Just wait Usagi. He would return to his rightful place by your side.
Behind him he missed dozens of fish washing up onto the shore, still and lifeless. The waves continued to break and crash.

I've been on a 80s-90s anime kick recently. Going back and rewatching a bunch of stuff from when I was a kid. I forgot just how…wild some anime used to be. Censorship was less of a thing too, though I guess that was probably a benefit from not being as mainstream. Times change I suppose.
Till next time.
