Freeze

Chapter 13: Tying Up Loose Ends

While Danny, Star, and their friends were busy telling stories, a certain chief of the Far Frozen was busy as well.

Frostbite was in his village, doing his usual duties as the chief.

After doing them, he got some training done and afterward, he had to remember to clean up any mess he left behind. He then made sure to oversee his warriors' own training to see if they were doing it right and to see how much each of them could improve.

"Nicely done, Frost..."Frostbite complimented after one of his subordinates managed to hit the target with ease.

He continued to watch and guide his warriors and gave constructive criticism and praise whenever it was needed.

"Your aim has improved greatly, Winter. Though, I suggest that for greater speed, to fold your legs a little more..."Frostbite said gently.

"Thank you, Chief. I'll keep working hard to improve..."Winter said and did as he was advised.

He smirked when he saw that it worked, and Winter improved his aim quickly and how his movements became slightly swifter than before. Frostbite saw another warrior, Snow, trying to use his stance and his ice powers to create an icy weapon and began to give him advice too.

"Your ice attack is much better than last time, Snow, though I recommend you try moving your entire body in one motion instead of focusing on moving one part of your body. Like this..."He advised and even demonstrated it.

Snow did the same and smiled.

"Thanks for the tip, Chief. Hopefully, this will help me on the battlefield the next time some idiot thinks they can attempt to steal any more ancient relics or artifacts under our protection..."Snow said before he went back to practicing his moves.

The warriors continued to training, while their chief went back to his usual business as the Chief of the Far Frozen.

"It's so wonderful to see such a happy, mighty tribe working so hard together. Taking what they've all learned from training and battle, to improve what they lack to better prepare for next time. I'm glad to see that traitor was just the exception to our tribe..."Frostbite thought, relieved that his tribe was having a peaceful and eventful day.

As he did so, some of his warriors returned to the village and started talking to tell Blizzard what had happened.

"How was it?..."Blizzard asked.

"The borders are fine. No intruders were discovered in the east side. Though in the west, only a few intruders were spotted from a distance and were caught..."One warrior said, reporting everything that happened.

"Also, some of the glaciers in the north borders are starting to melt due to the season we are in, so we should do something about it soon. Perhaps send more warriors to deal with it..."Another said.

Hearing the word "glacier" made Frostbite stop as he briefly recalled someone with a similar name. Someone whom he hasn't seen in months.

Someone who was thankfully receiving the punishment they deserved and then some and hadn't attempted to escape yet, caused the Chief to grow a bit concerned.

It was someone whom he had the displeasure of seeing again and even challenged him for his place as chief (which Frostbite won, by the way), after his last serious adventure with The Great One and Lady Star, who both played crucial roles in finally capturing that scoundrel.

"Glaciar, you traitor. What was going through your mind during all this?..."Frostbite thought as he recalled the last time they spoke face to face.

And the last time they spoke Frostbite spoke with his former friend had left things a bit ominous.

FLASHBACK

Several Months Ago

"Blizzard..."Frostbite said, calling for his second-in-command.

"Yes, chief?..."The warrior asked, while his boss started to give orders.

"I need to leave for an important task that must be done by the chief of the Far Frozen. I will be back in a few hours and until then, you are in charge..."The chief spoke seriously to his second in command.

"Is it something serious, Chief?..."Blizzard asked, while his boss had a neutral expression on his face.

"Let's just say I...have to attend to this matter...alone..."Frostbite said cryptically, but his second-in-command felt he knew what he was talking about.

Frostbite soon left his village and started to fly through the ghost zone. He passed by Walker's prison but didn't stop there. No, Glaciar's crimes were too serious to be locked up there, and the Observants had someplace else for him.

He soon arrived at the Observants' realm, specifically their dungeons, where the ghostly cyclopes greeted him.

"Greetings, Chief Frostbite, we have been expecting you..."One of the Observants greeted in a surprisingly cordial tone.

"Greetings. Am I right to assume that you are already aware of the reason for this visit?..."Frosbite asked, but he already knew the answer.

The other Observant nodded.

"Indeed. The scoundrel who stole the Chalice is already locked up. You may see him yourself but for only a little bit..."The other Observant said, already knowing WHY the chief of the Far Frozen was here.

"Thank you, I won't be there any longer than necessary. And if I am not being too impertinent and presumptuous, this visit is just between me and the Observants. The rest of the Zone doesn't need to know about this..."Frostbite said since he knew some of the other leaders of the Ghost Zone might question why he was visiting a traitor to his tribe.

"Do not worry, Chief Frostbite. We only observe events, we do not interfere. Including crucial moments during the timeline or what goes on within these walls. Unless it's needed..."The other Observant said.

"Indeed, we do not waste our time spreading rumors or gossiping like youngsters..."The first one said, before guiding the chief inside the specialized prison.

This prison was much different from Walker's jail. While Walker usually dealt with nuisances who bring more chaos to the Ghost Zone, this prison was created for ghosts who committed many serious crimes such as Vortex, or other ghosts who were dangerous, yet not dangerous enough to warrant Clockwork's interference or the attention of the higher up within the Observants, like the supreme Observants. Those fools end up being given a more...permanent punishment to a certain place that no ghost can ever escape from.

Frostbite was guided inside the prison and saw several ghosts who were either traitors to their realm or foolishly stole or otherwise did something dangerous enough to warrant being here.

"LET ME OUT! I DEMAND IT! YOU CAN'T JUST TRAP A FORCE OF NATURE LIKE ME FOREVER! THE UNIVERSE IS A CANVAS THAT NEEDS AN ARTIST LIKE ME!..."Vortex yelled from his cell, but his powers were useless due to a technologically advanced containment cell he was placed in and all he could do was complain loudly.

"Oh, shut up!..."One of the guards shouted at him before slapping the glass.

Another pressed a button to mute Vortex's consent yelling before moving on. Frostbite ignored this until he was brought to the right cell he was looking for.

There, inside the cell, was a certain prisoner with whom Frostbite shared a complicated history.

"We will give you some privacy. It goes without saying, but don't stay too long..."The two Observants said before they left to give them some privacy.

Frostbite nodded his head and soon walked through the opened doors to a certain cell where a certain disgraced ghost yeti. Glaciar was sitting on the ground, looking weakened and disheveled. He noticed Frostbite's presence but didn't bother moving or looking at him. Still, he spoke.

"I suppose I should consider myself lucky that the chief of the Far Frozen took time out of his busy schedule to visit a lowly prisoner like me..."Glaciar said sarcastically, still not looking at him.

Frostbite got annoyed before he spoke.

"Be grateful that the Observants went easy on you and didn't send you to oblivion for daring to steal the chalice. Much worse criminals face a far more gruesome fate than the mercy you were shown..."Frostbite said, frowning.

Glaciar said nothing, as he still refused to look at him but Frostbite continued to speak to him.

"Remember that it was your own choices that led to you being here. Hopefully, maybe a few centuries in here might fix that chip on your shoulder and may change you..."Frostbite said, still wishing deep down that he would one day understand what he took for granted.

Glaciar continued to remain silent, while Frostbite kept talking, ironically this moment physically mirrored how Glacier would lecture Frostbite back when they were both in their youth.

"The Great One and I, as well as the others, went easy on you. You and I both know that I could have ended you if I felt like it. All of this could have been avoided from the very start if you had simply made the right choices instead..."Frostbite added until his former friend got sick of the lectures and finally spoke.

"Why are you even here? Not many would understand why the Chief of the mighty Far Frozen would bother to even waste his time visiting a traitor, what do you want from me?..."Glaciar said in a bitter way.

Frostbite got annoyed and sighed before answering him.

"Because long ago you and I were the closest of friends, practically brothers. Even if we can't go back to those brighter days we shared...and we may never go back to how things used to be... perhaps one day you can at least finally learn from your mistakes. Maybe. Hopefully, by the time you are finally released from here, you'll understand why this had to happen...and hopefully afterward, will make wiser choices..."Frostbite said, since deep down, part of him didn't want to give up on Glaciar.

Not completely at least.

"Spoken like the hopeless dreamer you've always been, old friend. If all you want to do is spout out pointless nonsense then just leave. I have nothing to say to the likes of you..."Glaciar said, still refusing to look at him.

Frostbite sighed with a disappointed slouch.

"I am just glad Chief Chill isn't here to see what you have been reduced to. I just know it would break his heart to see his once-promising student turned into such a disgrace..."Frostbite said.

"Easy to say that, when you had it far easier than I did, both from being a prodigy and especially from his favorite..."Glaciar said, still refusing to look at Frostbite.

Frostbite grew angry.

"Chief Chill never played favorites and you know it. He always treated both of us, as well as the other warriors, equally. You were just too jealous and resentful to forget about your inferiority complex and see that he was only trying to guide you on the right path. That you had the most potential. But you were just too stubborn to see that..."Frostbite said, while Glacair simply gave a small glare at him.

"Say what you want, but you only know half the story of what really happened all those years ago. And how, even as cubs, the rest of our peers shunned me but adored you..."Glacier defiantly said.

"And yet you still refuse to grow up, let it go, and improve yourself. True, maybe I was a little more popular when we were younger but that doesn't mean that you didn't have talent or potential as well, why do you think our old Chief took you as one of his students in the first place?! Why couldn't you learn to let go of your pride and grudges, and see yourself the way I used to see you as? Someone who had the potential to truly be more than he already is?..."Frostbite asked, only to see Glaciar continued to ignore him.

"I want to see that side of you again, Glacier. But it seems that the Glaciar that I once knew really is lost forever. And from long before you left me to my fate with your machine..."Frostbite said in a sad tone, but Glacier still didn't respond to him.

He waited for seconds, but no response.

Seeing that he would get no more responses, Frostbite decided to end things here.

"Even when you actually had the power of the chalice in your hands, you could've used it to do so many things, yet you chose to try and destroy everything that makes our tribe so mighty by continuing to act so dishonorable. You left me with no choice during our battle Still, it didn't have to be like this..." Frostbite said.

"This isn't over... "Chief"..." Glaciar snarled under his breath.

"I believe it is. I must leave now. I have things to do, and our people are waiting for my return. Just remember Glaciar...things truly did not have to end up this way and I take no joy from any of this. All I can hope is that one day you will understand why this all happened..."Frostbite said, before turning his back on him.

"Goodbye...my former brother. Perhaps one day, I will visit you again..."He said before leaving, looking rather sad as he walked away.

Frostbite left, never seeing the expression on Glaciar's face after he walked out those doors. Or the bitter tear that started to fall as soon as he was sure his "old friend" was gone.

End Of Flashback

Present Time

That was how that visit went and Frostbite hasn't seen him since.

He was too busy leading his tribe and protecting the Infi-Map from potential thieves...or at least that is what he told himself.

"It's too late for us to ever go back to what we once had. But hopefully, it's not too late for him to finally learn his lesson..."Frostbite thought, still not willing to give up on his former friend yet.

The chief of the Far Frozen often wondered how differently things would have turned out if different choices were made and either of them walked down different paths. Would Glaciar still be at his side or would he still be where he was now?

He didn't know.

"Was this the right thing to do?..."He thought, in mild sadness but ignored it.

He can't let his emotions cloud his judgment. He is the chief of his tribe. A leader and he needs to act like it. He needs to do what is right, not only for his tribe but for the entire ghost zone as well, and that includes making sure fools like Glaciar receive the punishment they deserve.

Even if a part of him still wishes things didn't turn out this way, there is nothing he can do about it now except move on.

Frostbite went back to his duties as the chief, trying to ignore the emptiness that had already been brewing for the past few centuries ago, but he could still feel faint a new sense of hope beginning to take from.

Hope that a brighter future isn't that far from his grasp, Frostbite could only wish that the same could be said for Glacier.

REPLIES to my loyal and totally awesome reviewer:

RonaldM40196867:

1) Sorry, no spoilers. I guess that we will have to wait and see what happens.

2) Johnathan managed to get him to agree to let Jack and Maddie pay for the damages.

3) One thing is for sure; Baylor won't want to go back to that ski resort.

4) Baylor is like Gregor. Or as Tucker said, he's the ski instructor version.

Jebest4781: Thank you :)

Jboy44: I see.

Invader Johnny: Yeah.

Danifan3000: How is this so far?
