Chapter Text
17/11/1996.
Saturday.
"Why are we going to Hogsmeade in this weather?" Ginny asked as she ate her food.
"Because we want to get out of school." said Ron, eating like a bear.
Hermione rolled her eyes. "I don't want to go to Hogsmeade in this weather, but I also want to get out of school. I'm overwhelmed."
"Me too." said Harry as he drank his water. "I just want to get some air."
After the meal, the students who were going to Hogsmeade started waiting in the garden. The professors checked all the students on the list and set off.
All four of them stayed at the back and were away from the others.
Hermione adjusted her beret and looked around. She hadn't seen Snape, so she frowned. She was sure that he came too.
She turned her head back and found him at the back of the row. He was walking with his hands clasped behind his back and his eyebrows furrowed.
They made eye contact.
Hermione wanted to smile, but she could barely hold it back. She averted her eyes and turned in front of her so that no one would understand.
Meanwhile, Severus was reluctantly walking at the back. He was very bored, but he couldn't take his eyes off the young woman walking across the street.
Hermione Granger.
When he saw her turning head and looking around, they made eye contact. While looking at her, his treacherous heart accelerated again. But when she soon looked away, he sighed.
The last time they were together he realized the fact that he was in love with her. Then suddenly they both separated.
He couldn't tell her to come again.
When they arrived at the village, students started to gather together. Snape approached them. "Everyone should be here in 2 hours. No one should get into trouble. Disperse now." he said seriously.
The students began to disperse quickly. Snape's eyes followed them for a moment as Hermione and her friends left.
He was looking at Hermione, but he knew he had to pay attention to them today.
Thanks to Harry Potter and his ability to attract trouble.
"Let's go to the Leaky Cauldron and drink butterbeer." said Ron.
"Yes, and then let's go to George and Fred." said Harry.
"I might not be able to go to their store." said Hermione, pulling her coat tightly around herself. It was very cold. "I need to go to the bookstore."
"Come on Hermione, don't go to the bookstore all the time." said Ron.
"I can't come here all the time Ron, there are books I need."
Ron rolled his eyes but said nothing. They all went to the Leaky Cauldron having fun and entered the shop. It was very crowded as usual. "We'll take it with Harry. You go find a place for us." said Ron.
"Okay," Hermione and Ginny went and found a table off to the side and sat down. "Thank goodness it's very warm in here."
"Yes, the weather is very cold." said Ginny.
"I wish summer would come soon."
"Oh I wish." she said and approached the table. "There's something about you these days."
Hermione blinked curiously. "How?"
"You smile all the time, you disappear in the evenings."
She swallowed hard. What would she say now? She couldn't say that she went to Severus Snape and became intimate with him.
What if she tells her? What would happen then?
She'd probably stare dumbly at first, then her eyes would widen and she'd have a heart attack and die.
Frankly, she didn't want her friend to die.
"I'm going to the library, Ginny. You know me, I go often."
Ginny was about to laugh. "Somehow I don't think this has anything to do with the library. There's something else going on."
"Nothing's wrong Ginny, I'm telling the truth."
"I don't think so." she said with a grin. "There's someone, isn't there?"
Hermione felt her heart speed up. "There is no such thing, there is no one."
Before Ginny could say anything, Ron and Harry arrived. They left their butterbeers on the table and sat down. "What were you talking about?" asked Ron.
Ginny grinned even wider. "Hermione has someone in her life."
Ron and Harry practically spat out what they heard while drinking their butterbeers. "What?!"
Hermione's eyes widened. She didn't think her would say that. "Ginny!"
Harry looked at Hermione sitting next to him. "Really, Hermione?"
"No Harry, Ginny is being stupid. She believes in something of her own."
"Hey, I'm not the one who keeps disappearing." said Ginny defensively.
"When did she disappear?" asked Ron in surprise. "What's going on?"
Ginny and Harry looked at Ron like 'really?'
"Hermione disappears for a while most nights." said Ginny.
"I said I was going to the library!"
"You are lying." she insisted.
"Now Ginny," said Harry, drinking his butterbeer. "The probability of going to the library is higher than the probability of having a boyfriend."
"I agree with Harry." said Ron.
Hearing this, Hermione raised her eyebrows and looked at the two. "Really? Can't I have a boyfriend?"
"We didn't say anything like that." Harry rolled his eyes. "But I haven't seen a single lover around you yet. Instead, you always go to the library."
In fact, even Hermione agreed with them. "We can't all be like you, right? Can't I care about my school, classes and career?"
"Come on Hermione, Harry didn't mean to say anything bad." said Ginny. "Whoever wants can do whatever wants."
Hermione sighed and drank half her butterbeer. "I hate you." she said while grimacing from the beer she drank.
All three laughed. "We love you too." they said at the same time.
Unable to resist, Hermione laughed. "I must go." she said while placing money next to her glass.
"Hey, we just got here." said Ron.
"I know, but I have to go to two libraries. I don't have enough time."
"This library love is killing me." he said while rolling his eyes.
"Hermione," said Harry, frowning. "I wish you wouldn't go alone. Something could happen around you at any moment."
"Nothing will happen, Harry, don't worry." she said and got up. "See you later." She waved to them and left the cracked cauldron. She adjusted her beret and coat and started walking.
In fact, the library she was going to was not far from here. So it was a little relaxed. She went, careful not to slip in the snow.
When she finally arrived at the bookstore, she went inside. When she saw that it was warm, she breathed a sigh of relief. When she made eye contact with the woman behind the counter, she smiled slightly and started walking among the shelves.
While she was looking at the books for a long time, she picked up a few books that she liked.
Just as she was about to turn the other way, she hit something black.
As she let out a small scream and fell backwards, the books in her hand fell to the ground.
But the hand on her arm prevented her from falling.
"I'm sorry-" She paused when she saw the person in front of her.
The person she hit was Severus Snape.
"Professor." she said, regaining her composure.
Meanwhile, Snape was on his way to the bookstore as soon as the students dispersed. And now he had collided with Hermione in a way he never expected.
Normally he was going to say something harsh, but when he saw her, he felt calm. "Be careful, Miss Granger."
Hermione couldn't stop her cheeks from turning red. "I'm sorry, Professor."
He took his hand off her arm and knelt down and started collecting the books. "Three books? I thought you'd get more." he said as he stood up and handed it to her.
"Thank you." She took the books and smiled. "I just arrived."
Severus remained silent for a while and looked at her face for a long time. Her cheeks and nose were red. She looked so beautiful that it literally hurt his heart.
He involuntarily put his hand to his aching heart.
Worried, Hermione put her hand on his arm. "Professor? Are you okay?" she asked worriedly. The same thing happened again the other day.
Severus gulped when he felt her hand on his arm. He took a deep breath and tried to collect himself. He was completely off balance these days. "I'm fine." he said, lowering his hand from his heart.
"Are you sure? The same thing happened the other day."
He turned his face into a calm expression and smiled ever so slightly. "I'm fine, Miss Granger."
Even though she wasn't sure, she shook her head and withdrew her hand to avoid making him angry. "Ok."
The loss of her hand felt bad. "I have to go."
"Oh, I'm sorry I wasted your time." she said and stepped back. "Have a nice day."
Severus looked around and when he saw no one, he inclined his head towards her. "Be careful, okay? If you feel anything bad, go to the Professors."
She swallowed when she felt his breath. "I will do it."
He shook his head and started to back away. The pain in his heart increased.
It wasn't good to be so off balance.
