In a secluded box canyon, in the area known as Blood Gulch, stood two bases; one being red and the other one being blue respectively. At Red Base, or which was properly called Blood Gulch Outpost Number 1 or 1-b, stood two armored figures at the base's roof. They are wearing orange and maroon Mark VI experimental armor for simulation troopers. The orange one just kept staring into the distance, or more specifically, Blue Base, while the maroon one appears to be in thought of the moment.
"Hey?" the maroon soldier began.
"Myeah?" his partner replied.
"Do you ever wonder why we're here?"
"That's one of life's greatest mysteries isn't it Simmons?" the orange one continued. "Here we are, a nation fully militarized and paranoid from the past events that all had happened, with each kingdom considered as our enemy who might be secretly scheming on ways to take us down. I can't help but think on why would they even target us in the first place. Where they meaning to send us a message that we are not welcome here in this world and we are disease just waiting to be eliminated? Or, could it be the grimm, which was the gods' or if there are even any, plans to wipe out both human and faunus population? I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night."
"..."
"..."
"...The fuck? I meant why are we here just standing and doing patrol? The Blues are just probably doing nothing and it's supposed to be Sarge's turn in taking watch." The maroon soldier answered.
"Uhhhh."
"And what was all that stuff about the gods and grimm wiping us out?"
"Nothing."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Nah, I'm good."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
The maroon soldier now named Simmons continued speaking. "Seriously though, why are we still standing here? Haven't we already done enough Capture the Flag simulations? Our armor just works fine, though there might be still some stuff that needs to work out. But the point is, can't they just consider this a success and fix the small problems that retain themselves?"
"Yeah, I don't really give a fuck about those. I'm just wondering on when break will happen, my legs are fucking killing me."
"Grif, you just sat on your fat ass all day long eating all those MREs that Sarge clearly ordered us to keep away from and only got up since I have a ringtone that mimics shotgun blasts. Also, we weren't really standing that long."
"Hey I work plenty!" Grif said with an offended tone. "You know, I probably wouldn't be here bitching and complaining if it weren't for you and Sarge forcing me to join here as a Simulation Trooper. I already completed my military service and was about to be sent home with flying colors."
"Yeah, and by sent home with flying colors you mean 'getting a court-martial for falling asleep on duty which resulted in his entire platoon being slaughtered by our enemies.'" Simmons retorted while saying to Grif the offense he did while on duty.
"Shut up."
"Would you rather be sent to jail and suffer an even worse punishment? Or would you stand right here next to me doing nothing but drills and standing around and talking?"
"Damn it."
"Thought so."
"Grif, Simmons, front and center on the double!" a burly voice yelled, interrupting their chat.
"What does Sarge want this time?" Grif complained
"Dunno, probably some news?"
Meanwhile over a cliff stood another duo of Simulation Troopers. They were both wearing the same armor like the reds but with different colors, that being cobalt and aquamarine. The cobalt one was holding an SRS99-S5 AM Sniper rifle and the aqua one holding an M395B DMR. The former was currently looking through the scope spying on the Reds. The latter decided to ask.
"What are they doing?"
"What?" the cobalt trooper aggravatingly asked while turning slowly to face his comrade.
"I said 'What are they doing?'" he repeated his question.
The cobalt one, clearly annoyed frustratingly answered "Gods, could you once in your life, not ask me the same damn shit every 5 minutes while we are doing this."
"Don't you fucking blame me Church. You have the Sniper Rifle. You can clearly spy on them." the aqua soldier said defensively.
"Your gun has a scope on it Tucker, quit your bitching."
"Yeah, but your sniper rifle has the better sights. Also, chicks dig snipers."
"Shut up, and there is no way you will ever get to hold this thing jackass. Plus, to answer your stupid question, those morons did nothing but stand around and talk."
Tucker replied "Okay then. But come on, can't I just try it once? You never let me do the cool shit here in this canyon."
"That's because this is a professional's job and you are currently talking to one now. And also, spying on our so-called 'enemies' takes up a lot of skill and hard work in which you, fuckface, don't have." Church replied in a snarky and somewhat matter-of-fact tone.
"Oh yeah? Since when is spying on two losers ever considered such a hard job?"
"Since the beginning of time."
"Wow," Tucker sarcastically remarked, "thanks for the info professor."
Church shook his head and peered at his scope. He looked to see the Reds leave their post and went back inside the base.
"Welp, looks like those idiots are getting back inside. We should probably return to ours too before Caboose could fuck things up again. I really don't want to do maintenance on the tank again after he poured in all our drinks into the fuel compartment and replaced the engine with our refrigerator when we tasked him in repairing it. Tex would have lost her shit and might have used all of us as target practice for that mishap again"
"How could a fool like that possibly end up joining the army?"
"I don't know and don't care. Ask our superiors on why they allowed him in the first place."
As the two soldiers walked back to their base, the PA system sounded off.
"Simulation is over for today. Would all personnel go to the meeting hall. Mandatory meeting will begin session for some important news."
The PA system requested in a kind, womanly voice.
"The heck was that all about?" asked Tucker
"Probably some news of how Gulch might be opening its borders and sending people over to visit the other kingdoms, or could probably be something else." replied Church.
And with that, they headed back to their base first to pick up their dumb teammate and go to the meeting hall to hear the 'Important news' the PA system talked about.
