"Evenin' ma- Eh?"
Ryuji entered the apartment of him and his mother, only to look on in slight surprise at the sight of nobody in the house.
"Huh. Looks like today's one of her late days." He commented as he took of his shoes.
The blonde wasn't too surprised since this was far from the first time his mother stayed at work later than usual, so he decided to head straight for his room.
Once he got in and closed the door behind him, he removed his bag and pulled down the zipper, allowing a certain cat to finally spring out of it.
"Ahhh! Sweet freedom!" Morgana exclaimed in relief as he stretched before noticing his new surroundings, "Woah..."
"Ya wanted to see where you'd be stayin', didn't ya?" Ryuji asked before gesturing to the area, "Well, it ain't fancy or anythin' but here it is. My borin' ass bedroom."
"So this is where you live?" Morgana asked curiously before narrowing his eyes, "It's... A bit messier than I was expecting..."
"*Sigh* Yeah yeah, I know." Ryuji responded in a bit of annoyance, "But I don't give that much of an eff to clean it that often. Besides, as long as there's a bed for me to sleep in, that's all that matters. So I'd be real grateful if I were you."
He didn't need anyone else to lecture him on tidying up his room. That was his mom's job.
Morgana scrunched his eyes as he scanned the room once again before hopping onto the mattress.
"Well at least the bed's pretty comfy." He commented as he sank down onto it, enjoying how it felt on his fur.
"Hey, get off!" Ryuji demanded, "I don't need you litterin' all over my 'effin bed!"
"Don't treat me like some ordinary housecat!" Morgana snappily retorted before looking around, "But still, even with how messy this room is, it's heaven compared to the cells in Kamoshida's castle."
"Don't remind me..." Ryuji grimaced with a slight shudder as he remembered his first ever experience inside the castle.
Feeling like he needed a shower to wash off the creeps he got from the memory, the teen picked up his towel and his pajamas, which consisted of his usual red singlet and boxers, before moving to the door.
"I'm gonna go take a shower real quick." He announced, "Stay here and uhh... I dunno. Try to get used to this place, I guess."
"Sure thing!" Morgana nodded.
Satisfied with his response, Ryuji left the room to go and use the shower, and Morgana passed the time by simply wandering around the room.
After about 10 minutes, he eventually stepped back in, now dressed in his sleep attire.
"That was fast." Morgana commented.
"What, did ya expect me to take 5 years in there?" Ryuji questioned as he lied down on his bed, "Only chicks do that shit, dude."
He then removed his phone to begin his usual nighttime routine, which caused Morgana to gain a confused look.
"Hey, don't you have any school assignments you need to do or something?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yup." Ryuji answered without tearing his gaze from his phone, "I'll do it later though."
"Why?"
"Cuz I feel like it."
"So you're just procrastinating?"
"Hey, I ain't procrastinating!" Ryuji tried to retort, "I'm just givin' my brain some time to relax before I get to it, ya know? That's all."
"... Wouldn't it be better to just do it right away so you can actually relax?" The cat deadpanned.
This caused the blonde to groan in irritation as he turned off his device and got out of bed.
"Nosy ass cat..." He uttered as he removed a few books from his school bag and placed them on the sole table in his bedroom.
The cat watched in interest as Ryuji begrudgingly did his homework.
"Gee. Are your assignments all as complex as this one looks?" Morgana asked in surprise and curiosity.
"Yeah, most of 'em are." Ryuji answered as he disinterestedly scribbled away, "But they all still suck ass the same."
"You must really hate school, don't you?" Morgana questioned.
"Everyone hates school, man!"
"Why?"
"Why the hell wouldn't we?!" Ryuji looked at the cat as if he were stupid, "It's just a borin' ass wasteland full of kids who are nuthin' but jerkasses!"
"I honestly wish I could just drop out, but my mom would totally kill me if I even tried." He wearily stated.
Morgana stayed quiet at that and continued to watch Ryuji do his homework, though he noticed at some point that the teen seemed to be struggling with a problem.
"I 'effin hate math..." Ryuji groaned as he dropped his head on the table.
"It looks to me like you're not that adept when it comes to schoolwork." The cat couldn't help but comment.
"*Sigh* Yeah, I already know I'm not that smart." The blonde replied, "I've never really cared enough to try and do better in school anyway."
"That's... Quite the surprise to be honest." Morgana stated, which confused Ryuji a little.
"Eh? Why?"
"Well, it's just that I've noticed you're pretty quick on your feet whenever we're fighting inside the Palace." The cat spoke, "So I naturally assumed that would mean you do well in school too. After all, you are our head in command. Can't exactly gain a position like that by being an airhead, y'know?"
Ryuji stared at the cat with a slightly dumbfounded expression as he didn't really know how to respond.
"I... u-uhh... Okay, y'know what?? That's enough about me!!" He fervently exclaimed, trying to shift away from the topic of his poor academics, "Why don't we talk about you?"
"Me?" The cat repeated with raised eyebrows.
"Yes, you." Ryuji corroborated with furrowed eyebrows, "I've still got sum shit I need to ask you about."
"Like what?"
"Well for starters, I still don't know what the hell you even are or where you came from since you claim you're not a cat." He reminded the creature, "And don't try to say you're a human again, 'cuz ain't no way I'm believin' that." He deadpanned.
He was expecting Morgana to make a usual snappy retort, only to be caught off guard when the not-cat suddenly gained a dejected expression.
"I... I honestly don't even know what I really am." Morgana revealed with uncertainty, "I don't remember anything about my birth..."
"Wait, for real?" Ryuji asked in surprise, "Not a thing?"
The creature shook his head in response, "Not a single thing." He confirmed, "Like I said before, I think the distortions of the Metaverse made me lose both my memories and my true form."
"Damn..." Ryuji uttered with sympathy as he remembered his amnesia, "That must be frustratin' as all hell, huh?"
"You don't know the half of it..." Morgana stated somberly, "Imagine waking up one day with absolutely no knowledge of who you are or where you even come from? And to make matters worse, there's no one around to tell you or any hints or clues that can help..."
The blonde didn't need anyone to tell him that sounded like a real unfortunate experience. Having amnesia as a human is already shitty by itself, but having it when you're a mysterious creature with no possible idea of your background?
"I'm guessin' that's why you snuck into the castle in the first place, right?" Ryuji asked, "To find any clues about your existence and shit?"
"That's right." Morgana agreed, "There's no doubt that the distortions were what caused me to lose my real self. I'm sure that once they're purged, I'll finally be able to get that self back..."
"... And you're thinkin' your true self might be a human?" The blonde questioned curiously.
"It has to be!" Morgana stated firmly, "Why else would a cat be able to talk this?"
"Huh... When you put it like that, I guess it makes sense." Ryuji couldn't exactly refute the point as he scratched his head.
"I knew you would get it." The mysterious cat commented in satisfaction.
"By the way, your taking care of me won't just be for nothing." Morgana suddenly stated, "It'll be give and take."
"Eh?" Ryuji raised an eyebrow in puzzlement, "Whaddya mean?"
"Whoa there." The cat raised a paw as if to stop him, "I can't tell you more unless we settle on a deal."
"A deal?" He narrowed his eyes, "What kinda deal're you tryin' to cut with me...?"
"I'm glad you asked." Morgana smirked, "In exchange for you keeping me here, I'll teach you all the ropes and skills necessary in order for you to reach your full potential as a Phantom thief."
"You talkin' about training me or sumthin'?" The teen asked.
"Pretty much." Morgana agreed, "You've already got most of the basics down and you're pretty strong, especially with your Wildcard ability, but you've still got ways to go."
"My superior experience makes me the perfect candidate to mold you into a proper Phantom thief! With my guidance, you'll evolve from a novice to a veteran thief in no time!" He boasted, "Doesn't that sound like a fair trade? What do you say?"
Ryuji stroked his chin as he thought over Morgana's deal.
Honestly, he sounded pretty damn boastful and prideful, but then again, it could be justified by the fact that he had been at this way longer than Ryuji and his friends. If they wanted their next infiltration of the castle to go smoothly, they could definitely use all the guidance they could get on honing their skills. Plus, the cat had been a very big help during his first and subsequent visits to the Palace, so he didn't see any reason not to trust him...
He'd also feel like a total ass if he kicked him out on the streets to fend for himself.
With his mind made up, Ryuji nodded his head with a grin and gave his answer.
"Alright, Mona. You've got yourself a deal!"
"Nyahaha! Just the answer I was expecting..." Morgana exclaimed with a joyful grin, "I expect great things from you from here on."
This made Ryuji chuckle as he patted the cat, who didn't mind the gesture and even seemed to welcome it, on his head, causing a familiar voice to speak in his head.
Iam thou ... Thou art I...
Thou hast acquired a new vow...
It shall become the wings of rebellion that breaketh thy chains of captivity.
With the birth of the Magician Persona,
I have obtained the winds ofblessingthat shall lead to freedom andnewpower...
MAGICIAN: RANK 1
Suddenly, the sound of the front door being unlocked could be heard, which Ryuji caught.
"She's back already?"
A knock then came behind his door, followed by a familiar voice.
"Ryuji? Are you in there?" Mayumi Sakamoto called out.
The aforementioned teen went over to the door and opened it to stand face to face with his mother.
"Hey, ma!" He greeted.
"Evening, sweetie." She greeted back with a smile, "Sorry I was a little late tonight. Work took longer than I expected."
"Nah, it's cool. It ain't the first time anyway." He assured her with a grin and a wave, making her chuckle.
"That's assuring to hear..." She suddenly trailed off and widened her eyes.
Ryuji noticed that she was gazing downwards at his right side, and he looked in said direction to see Morgana looking at both of them in interest.
"Wha- dude! Why'd ya come out?!" Ryuji asked in surprise.
"I was curious about who was behind the door!" Morgana argued.
"Ryuji... Is that a cat?" His mom asked in befuddlement.
"Oh! Uh... Yeah!" Ryuji hurriedly exclaimed as he picked up Morgana to present him to his mom, "I found 'em on the streets when I was walkin' home from school. I could tell it was abandoned from how dirty and starved it looked, and I felt really bad for it so I decided to bring it home!" He swiftly concocted a story.
"Oh, that's terrible..." The woman uttered in pity for the cat, "You poor thing..."
"So uhh... Can we keep him?" Ryuji innocently asked.
"Well, it has been a while since we've had a pet after your goldfish died... And I'd feel terrible leaving this poor kitty to fend for itself..." Mayumi slowly pondered before she suddenly gained an idea, "Could you hand it over to me for a minute?"
"Sure, I guess." Ryuji complied.
Once she took Morgana in her arms, the older woman almost instantly gained a fond smile.
"Awww, aren't you an adorable little black kitten?" She playfully asked with a giggle as she began to softly stroke his head, which made him purr in satisfaction, "Yes you are...! Yes you are...!"
"What a surprise. You like him already." Ryuji commented with a smirk, fully aware of his mom's soft spot for cats.
"Alright, we can keep it. There's no way I can resist a furball this adorable." Mayumi agreed, leading to Ryuji pumping his fist in satisfaction, "But you better make sure you take good care of it too, Ryuji. Having a pet is a big responsibility, and I can't be the one doing all the work in caring for it."
"Hey! I'm not a pet!" Morgana protested, though it went on deaf ears since only Ryuji could hear him.
"I know that already, ma. Don't worry, I'll take real good care of him!" Ryuji assured her with a confident grin.
"That's all I ask, dear." Mayumi replied with a smile, "By the way, have you already given it a name?"
"Oh! Uh, yeah! His name's Morgana." Ryuji stated his name as he took the cat back.
"It's a he?" Mayumi asked in slight surprise, "Huh..."
"But still, Morgana's a pretty lovely name. Though I am a bit disappointed I didn't get to name it myself." She admitted.
"Don't worry, ma. You can name the next abandoned cat I bring over here." Ryuji jokingly assured her, making her giggle.
"Let's not turn our home into a discount pet shop, okay?" She bantered as she walked into the kitchen, "I certainly don't have the money to afford that."
"Yeah yeah." The blonde replied with a grin as he retreated back into his room, allowing Morgana to hop back down.
"So that kind woman is your mother?" The cat asked.
"Yup." Ryuji confirmed as he went back to his homework.
"I see. So I'm guessing she must be the ruler of this place." Morgana assumed.
"The ruler?" Ryuji repeated incredulously before snorting, "No, dude, she ain't no Supreme ruler ot anythin' like that. She just pays all the bills and takes good care of me."
"Hm. Makes sense." Morgana commented as he knew that was a mother's main priority, "Though I am a bit surprised she agreed in letting you keep me here so easily."
"Eh, I knew she'd accept it without any trouble. My ma ain't some shitty adult that'd be heartless enough to ignore a strugglin' animal." Ryuji stated, "It also helped that she loves cats and gets real pissed whenever she sees one gettin' mistreated."
"What a thoughtful and considerate woman." Morgana praised, "You're lucky to have a lady like her as your mother."
"Ain't that the truth?" Ryuji agreed with a grin.
Suddenly, his mother stepped into the room once again.
"Sorry to barge in again, dear, but I was looking through the fridge and I noticed I still have some leftover tuna that a coworker gave me." She revealed, "I was wondering if Morgana would like to eat it?"
The mention of tuna suddenly made Morgana perk up.
"Tuna...?!" He repeated with wide eyes as he started to drool at the mouth.
"I'd hurry on over and get it if I were you~" Ryuji encouraged him with a smirk.
The cat didn't need to be told twice as he sprinted right out of the bedroom on all fours.
"Oh my! Someone sure is eager." Mayumi commented with a laugh.
"What can I say? He is a cat." Ryuji chuckled at his own reply as she left.
Before he could go back to doing his homework, a notification popped up on his phone, and he picked it up to see he got a text.
"A text from Ann?"
Ann: Hey.
Ann: I hope I'm not interrupting anything
Ryuji: Nah. Ur good
Ryuji: What's up?
Ann: I just wanted to thank you for everything today.
Ann: You saved me, and I didn't even thank you properly...
Ryuji: You don't gotta thank me for nothin.
Ann: I really do though...
Ryuji: Hell no!
Ryuji: Yeah, things prolly would've gone to shit if I didn't come to rescue you
Ryuji: But that don't change the fact that you found the strength to awaken your Persona and help us burn that shadow to a crisp!
Ryuji: Which, by the way, you were totally badass whippin' that shadow all over!
Of course, he wouldn't mention the actual word he'd use to describe how she looked whipping that toilet shadow...
Typing...
Ann: Haha, I'm flattered~
Ann: But still , I would've never found the motivation to awaken Carmen if it weren't for all those things you said
Ann: It really helped to know you believe in me that much
Ryuji: Why wouldn't I?
Ryuji: You're totally amazin', Ann. You're one of the strongest girls I know, and I stand by that 100%!
Ryuji: If telling you how cool I think you are would make you gain another Persona or sumthin', I'd gladly do it all over again!
Ryuji: Cuz it's the truth!
For about a minute, there was no response from Ann, and Ryuji couldn't help but get a little worried.
'Did I say sumthin' wrong...? Why ain't she respondin' yet-?'
Ann: Sorry. I got a little emotional for a sec
Ryuji: Aw crap, did I make you cry? !
Ann: It's fine.
Ann: I'm not sad. I was just really touched by what you said
Ryuji: Oh.
Ryuji: That's a relief
Ann: Yeah.
Ann: I forgot how capable you were of being really sweet sometimes
Ryuji: Gee, you're makin me blush over here
Ann: I sure hope so~
".... Eh?" He uttered in surprise and confusion at the text.
Ryuji: Uhhh... Wuzzat supposed to mean?
Ann: Nothing!
Ann: But seriously, thanks for everything you've said and done for me today, Ryuji
Ryuji: Anytime, Ann
Ryuji: Now that you're part of the Phantom Thieves, I'll be supportin' ya even more from now on!
Ann: Thanks. I'll make sure to do the same
Ann: See you at school tomorrow
Ryuji: Right back at ya.
Ryuji: Gnite, Ann!
Ann: Good night
Turning his phone off, Ryuji went back to doing his grueling homework, this time with a much more noticeable smile.
After finishing his assignments, the teen almost immediately decided to hit the hay out of relief.
While he slept, he noticed a mysterious weight pressing down on his body but ignored it nonetheless, leaving him unaware of a very satisfied Morgana sleeping on his torso.
Saturday, April 16th, 20XX
The school day went by pretty quickly, and as soon as the bell rang, Ryuji wasted no time in dashing out of his classroom. His comrades already knew of their new hideout st the roof, so he knew he didn't need to worry about them coming.
However, while he journeyed through the hallways, he unexpectedly collided with another student.
"Uwah!"
"Ah!" They yelped as they fell on their butt.
"Shit! Sorry bout that!" He hastily apologized as he helped the unfamiliar student up.
"O-Oh no, it's entirely my fault! I should have been watching where I was going..." The female student responded in a cute-sounding voice as they accepted his hand and patted off any dirt on them.
"Nah, I should've been careful too." Ryuji stated before he noticed a certain object on the floor that had fallen from the student's grasp after their collision.
"Oh, uh, I think this shovel's yours." He picked it up and handed it to her.
"Yes, it is." She confirmed before smiling at him, "Thank you."
Now that she was stood up, Ryuji was able to get a good look at the girl he just bumped into.
She wore the school's standard uniform, although it was clearly modified to her tastes seeing as how she donned a pink turtleneck cardigan with short puffed sleeves, which was zipped open up to her navel, and a white long-sleeved shirt underneath. Underneath was the normal black and red tartan skirt, white tights with a black flower pattern, and black Mary Jane shoes.
When he looked at her face, he could see she brown eyes and chin-length curly light auburn hair. His eyes also landed on her forehea-
'Goddamn, look at the size of that thing!' He mentally exclaimed in befuddlement.
"Is there something wrong?" Her voice snapped him out of his shock.
"O-Oh, it's nothin'!" Ryuji hastily replied, "I'll uh... I'll see ya later!" He suddenly rushed past her.
"Wait!" The girl tried to call out.
"Sorry again for bumpin' into ya!" He apologized for the second time as he gradually got further and went up the stairs, leaving the female student by herself.
"... I didn't get to ask for your name." She commented.
After reaching the roof and letting Morgana out of his bag in the process, the blonde waited for his teammates to come up as well, and they eventually arrived.
"About time you guys got here!" Morgana exclaimed.
"Yo guys!" He happily greeted them.
"Hey, Ryuji!" Ann greeted enthusiastically, "Hey, Mona."
"Hey." Ren simply greeted, though he seemed to be massaging the center of his forehead.
"Hm? What's up with your head, dude?" Ryuji asked curiously.
Ren let out a sigh in response while Ann giggled.
"Let's just say that someone finally got a taste of Mr. Ushimaru's infamous chalk." She remarked.
"Ah! I see you were on the receivin' end of his legendary chalk throw, huh?" Ryuji stated with an amused grin.
"I didn't think it was possible for a mere piece of chalk to hurt that much..." The spectacled teen muttered.
"Well, that's you're fault for daydreaming in class." Ann stated.
"You of all people were daydreamin'?" Ryuji questioned in slight surprise, "What was it about?"
"A mysterious blue-haired doctor..."
"... Uhhh, what?" Ryuji uttered in perplexity.
"Nevermind." Ren replied.
"If you're done horsing around, can we get back into business already?" Morgana snappily asked.
"Sorry." Ryuji apologized, "So, we headin' back into the Palace or what?"
"Don't be so hasty." Morgana chided, "It's still too early for us to head back."
"What do you mean?" Ann asked in curiosity.
"If we underestimate the dangers of the castle, it'll seriously affect us in the long run." Morgana lectured, "We need to make sure we're fully prepared."
"Makes sense." Ren agreed, "We wouldn't want to end up dead just because we went insidr in a rush."
As much as Ryuji was eager to go back and deal with Kamoshida right away, the logical side of his brain knew his feline guide was right. If they all died just because of a mistake that could've easily been accounted for, then him and his team's efforts would all be for nothing.
"*Sigh* Guess you've got a point." Ryuji conceded, "So how do ya suppose we get prepared then, Mona?"
"I'm very glad you asked." Morgana grinned before sitting up from his position on the table and turning serious.
"First, we need to find better equipment for all of you." He stated.
"Are you talking about our weapons?" Ren asked.
"Precisely." Morgana nodded, "While gaining your Personas automatically equipped you all with guns and melee weapons, it would definitely benefit us to find some that are more effective."
"Ooh ooh! That shop I bought my shotgun from has a bunch of other stuff!" Ryuji excitedly revealed, "We could totally get some kick-ass weapons from there!"
"Perfect! Then we can leave that aspect to you, Ryuji." Morgana replied.
"Alright!" He accepted, "We can buy 'em tomorrow since it'll be Sunday. You guys wanna come with?"
"Count me in." Ren quickly agreed with a slight shine in his lenses.
"Actually... Could I leave you guys to check that place out for me?" Ann requested.
"Huh? You can't make it?" Ryuji asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Why not?" Ren asked curiously.
"I made plans to see Shiho at the hospital tomorrow." She revealed, surprising both of the boys, "And I really don't wanna cancel on seeing her."
"Ah, I see." Ren nodded in understanding.
"Don't worry, Ann. We'll get your weapons for ya." Ryuji assured her, "Do what you gotta do."
"Thanks." She thanked him with a smile.
"No prob. Just make sure to tell me how your visit goes." He instructed with a smile of his own, receiving a nod, "So, anythin' else we need, Mona?"
"The only other thing would be stocking up on medicine." Morgana replied, "Fatigue is unavoidable in a Palace..."
"And where could we get medicine?" Ann asked.
"I found out there's a small clinic near the place I live." Ren revealed, "I could probably get some from there after school."
"Then I guess we'll leave the drugs to you then, Ren." Ryuji grinned.
"... Awkward wording aside, you got it."
"Alright, with all that out of the way, our meeting is officially over!" Morgana exclaimed in satisfaction.
"Kay. Then I guess we can all split up for today." Ryuji declared as he stood up, "Make sure to lemme know when you get the medicine, Ren."
The dark-haired teen simply nodded.
With their meeting done, the team left the roof and went their separate ways.
"This is the place..." Ren Amamiya commented as he stood in front of a certain elevator at a vendor.
After reaching Yongen-Jaya, his current district of residence, the teen didn't go home just yet and rather looked around to find a certain place.
'That mysterious lady who came by last night should be in there...' He figured.
When he arrived at the cafe he was living in last night, a certain blue-haired woman in gothic clothing caught his eye, and for some reason, he couldn't help but be mesmerized by her appearance. Though his caretaker was quick to scold him for ogling his customer, but she didn't seem to mind. When she left, his guardian revealed that she was actually the head doctor at a clinic down the street, and there were rumors that she gives pretty crappy examinations and sells weird homemade medicines.
Any normal person would steer clear of her after hearing those rumors, but Ren knew there was a possibility that getting acquainted with her could be really beneficial for the thieves.
... And there's also the fact that he had a pretty strong desire to see and actually talk to her.
"Well... Time to go in." He uttered as he pressed a button and entered the elevator which took him up.
After reaching a certain floor and entering a certain door, he found himself in a rather interesting-looking waiting room.
It was pretty dull thanks to its pale-green structure, though it looked like a standard waiting room you'd find in a clinic. There was a bathroom at the side, some red seats for patients to sit at, a shelf with magazines, and a large plant. Though why there was a single pole with orange chains was beyond him...
His eyes darted toward the sole reception window, and his eyes slowly widened.
'It's her!'
Behind the window was a rather languid woman with dark blue hair in a messy bob-cut with blunt bangs and brown eyes.
... And also a choker around her neck...
Seeing her again slightly took Ren aback, but he steeled himself in order to not look like an ogling idiot and walked up.
The sound of footsteps made the so-called doctor look up from the file she was reading, and she looked up to see the spectacled teen.
"... Can I help you?" She asked in a rather sultry voice that he couldn't tell if it was intentional or not.
"Uhm... Yes, actually." He answered.
The doctor then suddenly blinked in recognition.
"Hey... Is this your first visit?" She questioned, "I feel like I've seen you before..."
"At LeBlanc." He simply answered.
"... Oh yeah. You're that weird kid I saw at the old man's cafe." She realized.
"... Yeahhh..." He awkwardly confirmed.
"... Well, I guess that doesn't matter." She shook her head, "So, what are you here for today?"
The teen cleared his throat before answering.
"Lately, my body has been feeling pretty lethargic." He lied, "So I was thinking you might have something that could help me out."
The gothic doctor stayed silent for a few seconds as she seemingly pondered over his words before giving a response.
"... Fine. Please head to the exam room." She gestured toward the door on his right.
Ren stayed silent as he sat across the doctor who was jotting something down in her examination room.
It didn't look too out of the ordinary, apart from the fact there was a pale-green curtain hiding something. Even though he couldn't see what it was, he SWORE he could hear the sounds of a nuclear plant running.
He was also using the opportunity to get a good look at her full appearance, which consisted of a white lab-coat over a short dark green dress, along with accessories such as a red grommet belt, multiple necklaces, and strappy black platform high heels.
Now Ren never really cared for girls who were into the whole goth aesthetic, but it felt like that opinion was slowly crumbling due to the attractive doctor sat before him.
"In a case like yours, it's usually due to stress..." She suddenly spoke, "I'm gonna prescribe you some pain relievers, okay?"
"Absolutely." He nodded with a smile.
This was easier than he tho-
"Actually, I still need to restock those..." She remembered as she cringed at her blunder.
The teen inwardly sighed in disappointment at the information.
'Just when things start to look easy...'
"So, let's go with sleeping pills instead." The woman suggested, "Sleep is the best medicine anyway."
While he certainly agreed with that last phrase, it didn't change the fact that those pills wouldn't be nearly as useful as the painkillers.
"Which type of pill do you want? A sweet-tasting one or a bitter one?" She asked.
"Whichever is fine, I guess."
"How about a stinky one, then?" She proposed.
"What...?" He asked in confusion.
"Just kidding. There's no such pill." She retracted with a playful smirk, "Now how about we stop beating around the bush...?"
"... I'm sorry?" Ren uttered in puzzlement.
"You're not sick at all are you?" She accused with a glare, "I'm not as dumb as I look, you know."
The teen had to try his best not to visibly flinch at her accusation. Was it really that obvious he had lied?
"I-I... Uh..."
The doctor chuckled at the sight of him trying to come up with a response.
"I'm guessing you're here because you heard the rumors about me, huh?" She assumed.
"Are they true?" He couldn't help but ask.
"Who's to say?" She nonchalantly shrugged, "But as a result, all I get are patients with ulterior motives."
He winced a little at the remark.
"I... really could use some medicine, though..." He uttered, "Please, doctor?"
She gazed at him for a bit before sighing.
"I guess high school kids have it tough nowadays too, huh?"
"In this day amd age, you have no idea." He joked.
"Heh. Funny." She chuckled, "Well, fine. I'll prescribe you some medication."
"Really?"
"Yes, but only medication that will help you recover your health." She gave her condition.
"Of course." He nodded with a smile, "Thank you, doctor."
"Gee, enough with the formalities." She smirked, "The name's Takemi. Tae Takemi."
"Takemi..." Ren repeated the name.
Somehow it really fit her, and it sounded nice.
"Well then... My name's Ren Amamiya." He introduced himself.
"Amamiya, huh?" She repeated, "Has anyone ever told you you look more like an "Akira"?"
The teen simply dropped his head in despair, which confused Takemi, but she ignored it nonetheless.
"Anyways, here. Take this." She handed him a sheet of paper.
"What's this?" He asked.
"It's a list of all the available medicine I have." Tae answered, "Choose the ones you find most suitable and I'll supply you with them. Of course, they all come at a price though."
"I understand." He nodded as he looked through the list, "The bread comes first, even if you sell medicine."
"Glad we're on the same page." Takemi commented with a smirk, "Now, which one?"
"Let me see..."
The teen examined the list for about two minutes before finally making his selections, and once he did, Takemi took out the respective medications and handed them to him in a paper bag, not before taking the appropriate payment though.
'Note to self: Search for a part-time job.'
"Pleasure doing business with you." Takemi stated.
"Likewise." Ren nodded, "By the way, are the medicines you dispense original?"
"So you've noticed?" Takemi smirked at his observation, "You're correct. This is my private practice. I have a license to make my own formulas."
"I see." He uttered in surprise and intrigue.
"It's your responsibility to take care of yourself." She reminded him, "So if that's okay with you, stop by anytime."
"That would be a really big help." He nodded with a satisfied smile.
"Great. It's nice that you're so quick on the uptake... Saves me the hassle."
"I'm just glad you still offered me medicine even though I seemed suspicious."
"Eh. You seem pretty earnest and it doesn't look like you'll cause me any trouble." She shrugged, "Though you're a pretty weird kid... I can only wonder what you're going to use the medicine for..."
He comically sweatdropped at the remarked.
'If I told you what I'm really using it for, you'd find me even weirder...'
"Whatever. It's not my problem." She shook her head, "So, we done here?"
"Yeah." He nodded as he stood up, "... It was nice meeting you, Takemi-san."
"Pfft. Aren't you respectful." She joked, "Just make sure to swing by again sometime."
"Of course." He smiled before heading out, "Goodbye."
As he exited the room, he noticed a older-looking man in a dark brown suit holding a briefcase walking toward the door, and he gave him way to enter.
"Who was that?" He asked nobody in particular.
"... What's the reason for your visit?" He heard Takemi ask, "Do you have a cold? Stomachache? Athelete's foot? High blood pressure? Whatever it is, you'll need to take a number..."
"Enough fooling around...!" He also heard the man's angry voice, "You're the only one who could have developed that special medicine."
"Special medicine?" Ren repeated in confusion.
"I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about..." She denied.
"Don't play dumb with me..." The man warned, "Rumor has it, it's a drug so potent it can give a person unlimited power."
Okay, now his curiosity was piqued. He HAD to listen in on this.
The spectacled teen got closer to the door to listen in on their conversation as discreetly as possible.
"Really? That's news to me."
"Developing experimental drugs, medicine, and herbal remedies violates all health regulations." The man stated, "Are you attempting to create a super-stimulant? A drug like that will only become a social issue."
"You're really persistent, you know that? I'm just a quack..."
"The police may not be taking action, but I imagine the media will soon pick up on it. You intend to ruin my reputation again, huh? You're a disgrace to the medical community."
"... Tsk!"
It appeared the man had struck a nerve.
'Well that was harsh...' Ren commented.
"What's with that look? That was your mistake, was it not?" The man taunted. "I won't be responsible for your criminal actions. Dispose of that "medicine" immediately and resign, or else I'll see to it that the name "Tae Takemi" will never-!"
The man suddenly paused.
"Hey, is somebody there?!"
'Uh oh...!'
The eavesdropping teen wasted no time in getting the hell out of there, and he eventually made it back outside the vendor.
"*Phew* That was a close one." He commented in relief.
'Still, I can't help but wonder what that "special medicine" he mentioned was...' Ren thought pensively, 'From what I heard, it sounds like a drug that can turn you practically superhuman.'
Something told him a drug like that could really benefit the Phantom Thieves...
"I'll think about that later." He shook his head, "For now, I should get back to LeBlanc before Sakura-san tears me a new one..."
At that, he ventured back on the streets of Yongen and made his way home.
Sunday, April 17th, 20XX
In Shibuya Station Square, Ryuji could be seen patiently waiting for a certain someone with crossed arms.
Since today was Sunday, he was wearing his casual clothes, which consisted of a purple hoodie with red lining over a black shirt with a yellow frowning face, black jeans and yellow sneakers.
His face lit up when he finally spotted who he was looking for.
"Yo, you made it!"
"Sorry for the wait." Ren apologized as he walked up to his friend.
He was also in casual clothing, an unbuttoned black blazer over a black-trimmed cream sweater, blue jeans and brown laced oxfords.
"It's no prob." Ryuji assured him, "The important thing is that you're here now."
Ren nodded in response before noticing something about the blonde's appearance.
"Is that a fanny pack?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
True to his question, Ryuji was wearing a yellow plus-sized fanny pack black straps around his torso, though it was strapped from his shoulder to his chest rather than around his waist.
"Haha, you noticed!" Ryuji gleefully confirmed, "I bought this bad boy back in my third year of middle school 'cuz I thought it looked cool, although I never really found a use for it until now."
Somehow, Ren wasn't surprised.
"Okay... So what inspired you to wear it now?"
"I figured out it was big enough for Mona to fit in." Ryuji revealed, "So now I'm gonna use it to carry him around with me!"
"Wait, you mean Morgana is in there like right now?" Ren questioned incredulously, "Is it even comfortable in there?"
"SUPER COMFY~!" The not-cat himself briefly unzipped the bag from the inside to gush before retreating back in, leaving Ren dumbfounded.
"Heheh, you heard him!" The blonde cheekily grinned.
"... O-Oookay." The spectacled teen slowly uttered in flabbergastment before clearing his throat, "Anyway... Shouldn't we be heading to that weapon shop?"
"Oh yeah!" Ryuji remembered, "The shop's on Central Street, so we gotta go through the crossing to get there."
"The crossing?" Ren repeated in confusion.
"Oh yeah. I somehow forgot you're not a city boy like the rest of us." Ryuji recalled with a smirk.
"Haha."
"That's what we call the Shibuya Crossing. It's this huge intersection with people crossin' the street from every direction." Ryuji explained, "It's also one of the nicest-lookin' areas in Shibuya in my opinion. I always stop by to look at it."
"Huh. I see."
"Like I said, we'll reach Central Street in no time once we get through there, so let's get goin'!" Ryuji encouraged.
"Alright. Lead the way." Ren nodded.
At that, the duo made their way toward the Central Street.
Although, when they passed a green train nearby, something caught Ren's attention.
"Hey, who's that?" He pointed out.
Ryuji looked in the same direction to see a small crowd gathering around a short and slightly pudgy man in a business suit wearing a sash standing on a tiny podium.
The man seemed to speaking passionately about the state of Japan and its struggling youth.
"Oh, him? He's just some random street politician that's been givin' these speeches about the state of Japan lately." Ryuji revealed before adopting an uninterested expression, "But people give speeches all the time. Plus, politics are pretty boring, anyways."
"... I guess you've got a point." Ren conceded without taking his eyes off the street orator.
"Alright! This is the place!" Ryuji exclaimed as he and Ren stood in front of a certain shop located in a back alley.
There were a few wooden crates near the front, and the store had a green roof panel along with a logo displaying the word "Untouchable" in green above it. The window displays also housed a few boxes containing airsoft guns.
"Is it just me or does this look pretty sketchy?" Ren commented.
"True." Ryuji agreed before grinning, "But we'll be fine. A store like this ain't nothin' to the Phantom Thieves!"
"Should you really be saying that out loud?" Ren questioned.
"Shoot!" Ryuji cursed, "M-My bad..."
"Still, this is actually getting pretty exciting." Ren mischievously smirked.
"Woah, dude... Are you secretly into this military stuff?" Ryuji asked in surprise.
"Maybe."
"Alright then... Anyways, let's check out what's inside."
Once they entered, they were greeted by...
"Wow, this place really does give off a military-theme." Ren noted in slight awe.
"Told ya." Ryuji smirked.
Judging from how heavily the shop was packed with realistic-looking weapons, army equipment and even practice dummies, one would easily assume this was a one-stop-weapon-shop if not for the advertising clearly stating they're not real.
And behind the counter was a gruff-looking middle-aged man with a lollipop in his mouth reading a magazine while laying back in his chair.
He had short gray hair and gray-colored eyes, faint noticeable stubble, sideburns and earrings, and had tattoo of a gray-colored gecko on the left side of his neck near the back. His attire consisted of a gray pin-striped hat with yellow ear defenders, a black turtleneck sweater, a long gray coat with a red peace symbol on the left hem of his coat, simple blue jeans and black leather boots.
Overall, his appearance made him look quite intimidating, but the two teemagers approached him nonetheless.
"Yo." Ryuji called out.
The man looked up from his magazine to gaze at the duo.
"... You know what you want yet?" He simply asked in a gruff, masculine voice.
"Actually, uh, my friend and I were wonderin' if you could give us some recommendations." Ryuji revealed with a grin that was clearly masking his unease.
"... I dunno. Just buy whatever looks interestin' to you." The surly manager immediately went back to reading his magazine.
"... Well he sure is enthusiastic." Ren commented.
"Ugh. Some customer service..." Ryuji sneered.
The man groaned at the comment as he placed his magazine down to put his full attention on the two teens.
"Fine." He relented, "Whaddya want? An automatic? A revolver?"
"Oh, uhhh..." Ryuji trailed off.
Thanks to his love for action movies, he wasn't too unfamiliar with the different names and types of guns. Although he was having a bit of trouble remembering the exact type of gun that he bought the last time he was here. He only bought it last time because it was a gun in Red Dead Redemption he thought looked kickass.
C'mon, what was it called?
Hump action ...?
Plump action...?
Oh yeah!
"You got any more pump-action shotguns in stock?" Ryuji questioned with a grin.
The question slightly surprised the manager, though he quickly gained an amused smirk.
"A pump-action shotgun, huh? Maybe you are more interesting than you look." The man commented.
"Eh?? What's that supposed to mean?!" Ryuji asked, not knowing whether to take that as a compliment or an insult.
"And what about you, four-eyes?" The man looked at Ren, "You lookin' to buy somethin' too?"
"I'd like a fancy model gun." Ren simply stated.
"... I see..." The man uttered before letting out a chuckle, "You shoulda said before you two're enthusiasts. I'm always up for helpin' fresh faces."
The two boys exchanged eager and satisfied grins seeing that they managed to get through to the manager.
"You said you wanted a pump-action shotgun right? Those're to your left. The model guns should also be on the right." He guided them.
"Thanks!" Ryuji thanked, "C'mon, let's go look!"
"Right."
Ryuji and Ren went to their respective sections, actively searching for not only better guns, but also melee weapons. Some of the items were really shiny and the blonde almost drooled at the sight of them. Although, their prices quickly shut down his enthusiasm...
'Looks like I can't go too crazy... I should prolly buy somethin' in the beginner's bracket for now.'
After managing to find a slightly stronger version of his shotgun, the blonde began to look for suitable melee weapons because honestly, as useful as the pipe was, he needed something that packed an actual punch.
Suddenly, his eyes landed on a certain product called "The Hell Slugger", a wooden baseball bat with nails hammered into it, and he immediately gained his signature shark-like grin.
"Hohoo yeah... Now you know I gotta bag this!" He eagerly grabbed the box.
'Now to find some weapons for Ann and Mona...'
Meanwhile, Ren wordlessly smirked in satisfaction as he took a box with the word "Kukri" on it.
Eventually, the boys finally walked up to the counter and placed their desired boxes on the counter.
"You guys ready to purchase?" The manager asked.
"Yup!" Ryuji answered for the both of them.
"Alright then." The man smirked before turning serious, "Although, I gotta let you know about precautions first."
"Don't go 'round pointin' 'em at other people. Keep 'em in a bag or somethin' if you're outside." He instructed, "Oh, and don't let the fuzz catch wind of you havin' 'em. I don't need them comin' around here."
"Don't worry, we know all that shit already." Ryuji assured him, "Besides, we hate the popo too." He joked.
"I most certainly do." Ren chimed in, though his blank expression made it hard to tell if he was joking or not.
"Heh. Glad we have somethin' in common." The manager replied with a chuckle, "Now lemme go and get these bagged for ya."
After getting their products in paper bags, the duo exited the shop and were now back in Central Street.
"That went a lot better than I expected." Ren commented.
"Heheh, I told ya we'd be fine, dude." Ryuji grinned, "And now we all have even better weapons to use in the Palace!"
"I know we're not scheduled to resume the infiltration until tomorrow, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to test these out right away." The spectacled teen commented with a smirk.
"For real, dude!" Ryuji enthusiastically agreed, "Gah, now I can't wait for tomorrow to get here already! Those shadows won't know what hit 'em!"
It was at that point Morgana decided to join the convo.
"I understand your eagerness, but just remember to be careful." He advised, "And I also hope the weapons you got for me are suitable."
"I'm sure you'll like 'em just fine." Ryuji assured.
"It's a shame he didn't sell any mouse-traps." Ren smugly remarked.
"Go to hell, Four-Eyes..."
"Hey, ma." Ryuji greeted as he entered his apartment.
"Evening, dear..." Mayumi absent-mindedly responded.
The blonde noticed that his mother's eyes seemed to be glued to the TV.
"What're ya watching?" He asked.
"Oh, I'm just watching the news." She replied, now facing him, "They're talking about that subway accident from last week."
"Oh, that thing..." Ryuji couldn't help but wince as he remembered the article, though his curiosity was piqued, "...What're they sayin' about it?"
"Well, apparently the subway driver was acting strangely odd during his testimony hearing." She revealed, "And people are thinking it might be related to those psychotic breakdowns that have been happening recently."
"For real?" Ryuji asked in surprise.
He had overheard a few people talking about that on his train, something about how it totally alters your personality. It unnerved him a little, but he wasn't totally scared by it.
"Yes." She confirmed, "They even reported that he couldn't even speak during questioning."
"So it just makes your personality do a total 180...? That's effin' nuts!" The blonde exclaimed in disbelief.
"I'd be lying if I said it doesn't sound unbelievable." His mom agreed pensively, "But it all matches up so well that I can't help but see some truth to it."
"... I guess you're right." He conceded as he awkwardly rubbed his hair.
"*Sigh* Sorry, dear. I shouldn't be discussing this kind of stuff with you." Mayumi wearily apologized, "After all, you're just a high-schooler."
"I mean, I don't mind." He commented, "Even high-school kids like me get interested in the news from time to time."
"You of all people?" His mom smirked with a raised eyebrow, "Puh-lease."
"Heeey, c'mon. I ain't that one-dimensional." He playfully retorted, "It doesn't hurt to try and be up to date with this kinda stuff, y'know?"
"Pfft. Okay then, Mr. Up To Date." She teased, "How about you get "up to date" with the time and change your clothes?"
"Way ahead of ya!" He exclaimed as he jogged to his room.
However, before he could get changed, his phone notified him of a text, and he looked to see it was from Ann.
Ann: Hey.
Ann: I went to see Shiho in the hospital...
He wasted no time in replying after seeing the message.
Ryuji: How was she? Is she any better??
Ann: Her condition is stable.
The blonde let out a sigh of relief at the news.
Ryuji: That's a big relief
Ann: I know right?
Ann: But the doctors said they don't know when she'll regain consciousness.
Ann: I can't help but be scared a little...
Ryuji: Honestly , I'd be lyin' if I said I felt the opposite...
Ryuji: But still, we gotta have faith in Suzui.
Ryuji: She's a strong girl. I'm 100% positive she'll pull through and bounce back!
Ann: ... Yeah, you're right.
Ann: She'll get better. I know she will.
Ryuji: Exactly! :)
Ann: But... I'll never forgive Kamoshida. He's going to pay for what he did, no matter what.
Ryuji: You bet he will...
Ryuji: Let's make him pay for all the unforgivable shit he's done together!
Ann: Of course!

Days Until Ryuji and Ren's Expulsion: 14
Ryuji was currently walking to school in a rather upbeat mood.
Today was the day that him and his team would go back into Kamoshida's Palace and steal the treasure, and he couldn't wait to finally get payback on him!
Unfortunately, when he got near the gate to the school, he was greeted by a sight that instantly made his mood sour.
"Speak of the effin' devil..."
Standing by the gates of Shujin was the resident scumbag himself, Kamoshida, cheerfully greeting any incoming students.
"Good morning everyone. C'mon, hurry up and get to class!" He instructed with a "cheerful" smile.
Though, it immediately vanished when he noticed the blonde teenager.
"Good morning, Sakamoto..." He greeted with a disdainful expression.
The teen stared at him with a scowl before giving a reply.
"Morning, shithead..." He disrespectfully greeted back without any fear as he tried to walk past him.
Kamoshida didn't give him the chance though as he quickly blocked his path, using his bigger frame to his advantage.
"What was that?" He questioned seriously, "Don't try and ruin my mood this morning with your notorious rebel act."
"Move it, Crimson Chin!" Ryuji demanded, not cowering under his gaze.
"Tch. That disgraceful attitude of yours is exactly why I want you out of this school." Kamoshida scoffed before leaning toward Ryuji's face and smirking, "Maybe then you'll finally learn your place."
The urge to break this smug bastard's nose was really starting to overtake the teenager, but he knew that the gym teacher was just trying to get a rise out of him, so he took a deep breath and walked around Kamoshida to the school. Though the latter wasn't done yet.
"I can't wait to finally see you and that criminal trash get thrown out of here." Kamoshida goaded his retreating form with a sadistic grin, "It'll surely be a day for me to remember, heheh..."
Ryuji stopped in his tracks to slowly look back at Kamoshida with an empty look, and for a moment, the gym coach was confident that the teen would immediately try to attack him again.
However, rather than assault his greatest enemy, Ryuji simply stared at him for a few seconds before swiftly responding by flipping him the bird, greatly shocking the once-smug teacher.
Seeing his gobsmacked reaction was extremely invigorating for Ryuji, and he chuckled as he entered the school with a triumphant grin, ignoring the fuming look on his enemy's face.
He was already being expelled, wasn't he? So where was the harm in that?
After school was over, the members of the Phantom Thieves immediately assembled on the school roof.
"So, you guys pumped to go in or what?" Ryuji asked with a grin as he released Morgana from his bag, "I know I totally am."
"Someone sure seems eager." Ren commented.
"Well, even if you're eager to go back, we still have to make sure we're prepared first." Morgana stated.
"I already got all of our weapons." Ryuji pulled two boxes out of his bag and handed them to Ann, "Here're yours, Ann."
"Thanks!" She thanked.
"And I've got all the necessary medicine in my bag right here." Ren gestured to his bag.
"Perfect!" Morgana beamed, "Now, I hope you all understand that we have to act quick. After all, Kamoshida is planning to have you guys expelled."
"I actually overheard him while he was talking to the principal in the halls." Ren revealed, "The next board meeting will be in about 2 weeks."
"So our time limit is May 2nd." Morgana stated.
"Then that means we gotta get this over with as soon as we can!" Ryuji exclaimed seriously.
"We basically just have to go to that castle and steal the treasure from Kamoshida, right?" Ann asked, "Then let's go over there and get it done right now!"
"Actually, I have a question." Ren interjected, "We've been doing all this talk about stealing the treasure, but first and foremost, I wanna know what exactly a "treasure" is."
"Oh yeah! I forgot to ask!" Ryuji remembered.
"A treasure is the physical form of the Palace ruler's distorted desires." Morgana explained, "Simply put, it's the core of the Palace. Once we steal it, the Palace will crumble... I think."
"This again...?" Ryuji sighed.
"Having said all that, even I don't know what Kamoshida's treasure is going to be." Morgana admitted.
"And where can we find it?" Ann asked in curiosity.
"There's no way of knowing that until we go in and find out." Morgana answered, "But if I had to guess, I'd say he has it locked up somewhere in the depths of the Palace."
"Makes sense he'd keep it in a place that's hard for us to reach." Ryuji noted.
"So the basic gist of it is that we infiltrate the castle and find the treasure." Ren summarized.
"Pretty much." Morgana nodded, "There's just a lot we won't know until we go in, but our objective remains the same."
"I expect great things from you guys, so let's make sure not to screw this up." The cat instructed.
"Don't worry, I'm sure we've got this!" Ann confidently stated.
"My words exactly!" Ryuji agreed, "Oh, but we should probably be careful when we're headin' into the Palace. If Kamoshida sees us, he'll totally get suspicious and give us hell of a lot more problems."
"You have a point." Ann agreed with a wince, "I've been seeing him patrol the hallways since first period."
"Not to mention he's been giving me death stares ever since I ran into him at the school gates." Ren revealed.
"You too, huh?" Ryuji asked, "In that case, we're just gonna have to Solid Snake our way outta here! Mona, you mind keepin' an eye out for us?"
"What kind of Phantom Thief would I be if I didn't use my skills for this?" The cat smugly asked he hopped off the table.
Keeping true to his word, Morgana scouted around for any sign of the coach as the trio of teens sneakily made their way down to the last floor before sprinting outside and eventually making it to the familiar alleyway.
"Alright, we made it!" Ann cheered in relief.
"That was pretty exciting, to be honest." Ren commented with a smirk.
"Indeed." Morgana enthusiastically agreed, "It seems like even outside the Metaverse, we're all destined to be Phantom Thieves!"
Ryuji chuckled as he was also thrilled by their mini-success, though he quickly adopted a serious expression. They had a job to do after all.
"Okay y'all. It's finally time for us to head back in." He announced, "You guys ready for this?"
Morgana, Ren, and Ann all nodded with determined gazes, signifying their readiness to act.
He smiled in satisfaction at their responses.
"Alright then." Ryuji pulled out his phone, "Let's get to it."
He immediately activated the Meta-Nav, and he could feel the familiar sensation of the Metaverse washing over him and his teammates...
