Authors note: Sorry this chapter is short and not very good (in my opinion at least) it's setting up a really important storyline for future chapters. I spent a week working on it and finally got it to a place I was content with. I promise the next few chapters are going to be more exciting.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Ethan asked hesitantly watching Benny flip through one of his grandma's spell books.

"Of course" Benny rolled his eyes "found it" he held up the book triumphantly. "Once we make this, we can make anyone tell us whatever we want" he rushed over to his grandma's cabinet and started pulling out random bottles before throwing them into a pot.

Ethan still didn't look convinced "why do we need a truth potion anyway?"

Benny looked incredulously "E we could use this for whatever we want! Test answers, secrets, love confessions from hot chicks, the possibilities are endless."

Ethan raised his eyebrow teasingly "any love confessions in particular you looking to get? Because I thought you learned your lesson last time."

Benny grimaced remembering the last time he made a potion, he shook off the thought "no one comes to mind." He finished stirring the potion and poured it into a water bottle, he noticed Ethan's face "what? That's all I have."

The next day was dragging on, Benny sat in class trying to figure out how to test his truth potion. The water bottle sitting innocently on his desk as he stared at it like it was a crystal ball. The bell rang overhead and his thoughts were interrupted by someone scooting his face away with their leg. He looked up blinking to refocus his eyes, Rose was sitting on the edge of his desk, the water bottle in her hand.

"You okay Benny?" she asked, bringing the water bottle to her lips.

He had a split second to think, did he want her to drink the potion or not. He could find out how she felt about him but what if it was something he didn't want to hear? What if it was something he did? He knew she would kill him if she found out he let her drink a potion. "Stop!" he yelled, causing her to jump slightly, the bottle had already been to her mouth and he could see a drop of water fall from the corner. Panic started to flood his stomach, I was too late, she already took a sip.

"Sorry" she threw up her hands putting the bottle back down and walking away.

"Rose wait" Benny scrambled to grab his stuff and chase after her. He caught up to her, the books about to fall out of his arms.

She stopped and turned to look at him, "what is with you today? You are acting extra weird."

Benny laughed nervously "nothing, just-" he tried to come up with an excuse off the top of his head but it wasn't working "mono." He could have died right there, why the hell did he say mono.

Rose's face grimaced slightly "gross, remind me not to kiss you anytime soon."

Benny could see her pause before her ears started going red "does that mean you're planning on kissing me later?" he asked in what he hoped sounded like a flirting manner. He could see her eyes widen slightly and he remembered the potion in the water bottle. He waited for a second, if she did drink it then she was about to answer and Benny wasn't totally sure what he wanted her to say. His heart was beating really fast, he wasn't sure why he felt so nervous.

"Hey guys" Rory appeared between them without warning, Benny quickly looked around him to see the back of Rose's head walking swiftly down the hallway.

"Way to go Rory" Benny grumbled adjusting his bag and walking over to take a cold drink from the water fountain to clear his head.

"What did I do?"

"Doesn't matter" Benny suddenly remembered "oh crap I forgot my water bottle on my desk" he turned to go back and retrieve it.

"You mean this water bottle?" Rory held up the bottle.

Benny noticed that it looked empty, "Rory did you drink that?"

"Oh course not"

"Good"

"I poured it down the drain in the water fountain, it spelled a little funny so I figured it went bad."

Benny wanted to punch him "water doesn't go bad you idiot" he snatched the bottle away from him. He looked over at the water fountain and wondered if it was possible for the potion to mix with the drinking water. The thought of everyone that drank from the water fountain having consumed truth potion was terrifying.

"What does it matter anyway you can always just put more water in it."

"It matters because that wasn't water that was a truth potion" the words came out of his mouth without him thinking about it. He realized that moments before he had just drank from the same fountain. He guessed that answered his question, yes the whole school was about to be under a truth potion.

It didn't take long before the effects of the potion were starting to show. It started slow with one or two people getting into arguments but by the time lunch was over there were full one fights starting to break out. "Hey Benny" Ethan said awkwardly, "have you noticed people acting weird?"

Benny closed his locker door "yeah that would be the truth potion, Rory accidentally spiked the school's water with it."

"Well apparently, when everyone tells the truth all it does is cause a bunch of fighting" Ethan pointed out "if we don't do something soon, the school is going to turn into a giant boxing ring."

Rose placed her books in her locker, she had a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach. People were acting weird today, weirder than normal, and she had a sneaking suspicion by the way Benny was acting earlier that it had something to do with him. She looked down the hall and noticed Benny was talking with Ethan, she was about to close her locker to go speak to him, when she stopped. She noticed a pretty blonde girl, probably a year or two older, walk by them before stopping and turning back to speak. The girl started talking to Benny, Rose couldn't hear what they were saying but the girl was smiling a lot and it was very obvious she was flirting. They spoke for a few moments and Benny was grinning the whole time. Rose wasn't sure why but she was feeling irritated by this, she tried to shake off the feeling. She watched as the girl walked away,Ethan said something to Benny then started walking in Rose's direction.

Rose turned around quickly, trying to act normal. Ethan's locker was next to hers and she heard him opening it. She shut hers and looked over at him, "hey Ethan."

Ethan was scrambling through some papers, looking up at her briefly "hey Rose sorry I am in a bit of a rush."

Rose crossed her arms and leaned against her locker, "who was that girl Benny was talking to?" she hoped that sounded casual but she cringed at herself nonetheless.

Ethan didn't look up, still searching through his locker, "that was the girl Benny made out with at the Dusk premiere last year. She came over to ask him on a date"

Rose felt her chest tighten a little "oh that's cool" she said half heartedly, she felt like she had been punched in the throat. She turned to Ethan "what are you looking for anyway?"

Ethan turned to her "nothing" he didn't sound convincing.

Rose raised an eyebrow "do you know why everyone is acting so weird?"

"Noooo" he lied, badly.

"Ethan if you lie to me I will turn you into a toad"

He relented "Benny made a truth potion and Rory accidentally used it to spike the school's water supply so now everyone that drinks the water has to tell the truth."

Rose was not surprised "that explains why everyone is fighting each other but that's not the end of the world. It will wear off and no real harm will be done."

He signed "about that I had a vision, the truth potion ends with people finding out vampires and magic exist and were all in danger."

Rose threw her head back and groaned "of course" she started walking toward Benny, he turned to her and looked a little scared.

"I hear you just dosed the school with a truth potion."

"Technically that was Rory"

Rose didn't look amused. "how are you going to fix it?" she asked matter of factly.

Benny didn't look her in the eye. "I don't know, grandma isn't home and I am out of ideas."

Rose felt a little bad for him "come on let's head to your house and see if we can figure something out."

Rose looked through the cupboards pulling out ingredients "why on earth would you think it would be a smart idea to make a truth potion Benny?"

"Because I thought I could make people tell me what I want to know," he said bluntly.

Rose looked at him "did you drink any?"

"Yes" he answered reluctantly.

Rose was half tempted to ask him more questions just to find out…nevermind "I think I know how to fix this but you should have come to me first. You know I am a master at potions."

Benny looked guilty "sorry but I thought you wouldn't let me make it or you would be mad at me. I didn't mean for you to drink any."

"Well you would have been right, I wouldn't have let you make it without a good reason" you turned to look at him "but I wouldn't have been mad at you. We're friends and it hurts my feelings when you go behind my back to do stuff. But don't worry I didn't drink any"

"Yes, you did," Benny eyed her. "it was in the water bottle this morning, I tried to stop you but you drank it before I could."

Rose finally realized why he was acting so weird this morning with the water bottle "no I didn't, I was about to take a sip but you yelled at me. It only touched my lips and I bit dripped down on my face but I didn't drink any."

Before Benny was able to think up a good response they hear a 'Special Report' come on the TV in the other room. They walked over to see what was going on, turns out pandemonium was breaking out all over town. People were fighting in the streets and it was getting so bad that people were actually ending up in the hospital. Rose rushed back into the other room and began gathering ingredients.

"Do you have an idea of how to stop this?" Ethan sounded more worried than normal.

Rose brushed a curl behind her ear "well since the effects of the potion have spread so far, there is no way I can create enough potion to stop it on everyone and even if I could I couldn't have the time."

"So we're screwed"

Rose smiled mischievous, turning to the boys, her arms filled with bottles "you underestimate me, I've got a backup plan, let's head to my house."

Ethan had only even been to Rose's house once and it was very brief so he never really knew what it looked like on the inside. It was normal for the most part, but reminded him more of what he would think the inside of a woodland cabin would look like. It was very homey with dried pants hanging on the walls and it smelled of cinnamon. Rose put the bottles down on the kitchen table and put a large pot on the stove.

"So what is the plan here?" Ethan asked sceptically.

Rose started working on the potion, pouring the contents of the bottles into the pot and stirring. "If I can't create a potion to counter the one Benny made, I am creating one that will put everyone affected to sleep until it wears off."

Benny leaned against the counter "that's brilliant but how are you going to distribute it to that many people?"

"You'll see" she winked at him, then immediately felt bad as she remembered the girl from earlier. She poured the potion into a glass ball "already let's go upstairs, we need a high window for this." Once they had made it to the top of the stairs, Rose opened the window in the hallway. "Okay Benny I need you to use a spell to take this potion and float it up as high as you can into the sky."

Benny took the potion, he was going to say something but thought better about it and did what she stuck her arms out the window and chanted a few words, lightning flew out of her finger tips and snaked into the sky exploding the potion. As soon as the vial shattered, rain began to pour down all over town.

"Problem solved, anyone under the effects of the potion will fall asleep as soon as they get wet" she crossed her arms impressed with herself.

Benny couldn't believe how brilliant she was, he looked at her with such admiration, she really was the best, saving his ass even though he didn't deserve it. "You really are the most amazing girl in the entire world" he said, he didn't care that he was still under the truth potion, he would have said it even if he hadn't been.

Rose's cheeks turned pink but she tried to play it off "better not let your girlfriend hear you say that." Benny looked with a confused expression but before he could say anything she continued "I am about to start cooking dinner, you both are welcome to join me if you want."

Ethan sighed "I would love to but my parents are going out tonight so I have to wait with Jane till Sarah gets there."

Just then the doorbell rang, "I wonder who that is" Rose said to no one in particular, the three of them made their way to the front door. Rose turned the knob and opened it, her face first showing surprise then a grin "Atticus?"
