In the middle of a playground, a group of bullies were attacking a younger girl. Their fun, however, would soon be stopped by four youths about their age.
They were well-known in the district, the first boy having fluffy viridian green hair, emerald green eyes, and soft freckles on his cute and kind face. The second boy had spikey ash-blonde hair, crimson red eyes, and a confident smirk. The third boy had curly black hair, glasses, and hazelnut eyes. The fourth and final boy had tanned skin, straight dark brown hair, and sunny orange eyes.
"Leave her alone!" The viridian-haired boy said bravely.
"Oh snap! It's Midoriya, Bakugou, Toriokoyoshi, and Tanaka!" One of the bullies exclaimed, his tongue turning out to be forked.
Izuku Midoriya was the viridian-haired boy, Katsuki Bakugou was the ash-blonde boy, Benio 'Ben' Toriokoyoshi was the raven-haired boy with glasses, and Morimoto Tanaka was the tanned boy.
"Big deal! They won't be so tough against my Quirk." The leader of the bullies said dismissively as his nerves started popping out of his arms and sparking with electricity. "My Shock System Quirk can make anyone paralyzed!"
He ran forward and struck Izuku, who was the closest. However, the green-haired lad's body seemed to become like rubber, insulating the electricity completely.
Katsuki smirked. "You frickin' dumbasses! Deku here is the son of one of the greatest heroes in the world!"
"And he just so happened to inherit his old man's Quirk," Morimoto added.
"My dad is one of the SCP Foundation's top-ranked heroes! Hero-682; the Hard-to-Destroy Hero: Regenizard!" Izuku said. "Like him, my Quirk is Reactive Adaptation and it allows me to adapt to anything!"
Katsuki grinned as he slammed his fist into his palm, causing a small explosion to go off.
"My Quirk is Explosion! It's the most awesome Quirk around!"
"My Quirk is Over Element," Ben said as ice formed around his left fist and stone around his right. "It allows me to bend the elements as I see fit and even combine them."
"And my Quirk is Morph," Morimoto said as he turned his fists into giant red boxing gloves. "It allows me to transform any part of my body into literally anything I can imagine."
"Together, we're gonna grow up and become a mighty hero team!" Izuku declared. "So let me say this again; leave that girl alone! I don't care if her Quirk is nothing special. We're future heroes, and heroes never let the innocent suffer!"
"Heh, you really get your bleeding heart from Auntie Inko, that's for sure." Katsuki chuckled.
"is that really a bad thing?" Morimoto pointed out with a smirk.
The bully leader tried to rally his cronies, but the four boys were already rushing at them like a freight train. Soon, the bullies were left reeling as Izuku helped their would-be victim to her feet.
The girl had snow-white hair, crystal blue eyes, a petite frame, and pale skin.
"You guys were so awesome. I wish I had my own Quirk to fight back against those bullies..."
"So that's the problem. It's hard in this world for a person to not have a Quirk." Morimoto said sympathetically.
"Maybe when you're old enough you could try obtaining an Object of Power. Anomalous items like them have helped otherwise Quirkless people become great heroes." Ben suggested.
Izuku nodded. "Yeah. You don't need to have powers like we do to be a hero. Sometimes, just being able to help others makes one a hero."
The girl smiled. "My name is Mayumi Goto. Do you guys wanna be friends?"
The world in which the kids lived was full of strange and anomalous powers. Some were bizarre world events, such as a televised game show that interacted directly with the viewer and produced instant prizes for those who won. Others were altered items, like a movie that could spontaneously manifest on turned-off TV thousands of miles from the film reel.
Still others were locations that defied logic, such as an underground city that perfectly resembled the one directly above it. Then some anomalies manifested as something normally only seen in comic books. Superpowers.
There were two kinds of such powers in existence. The first was Quirks, anomalies that manifested in an individual, granting them amazing powers. These people often became real-life superheroes or supervillains.
Even if someone wasn't born with such an anomaly, they could still gain one, through Objects of Power. These were a type of altered item with a special power that would transfer to a bonded owner. They typically only responded to and bonded with, individuals who had not been born with a Quirk.
Heroes and villains with both Quirks and Objects of Power tended to battle each other, the heroes protecting the people while the villains fought for their own self-interests.
A Quirk would tend to manifest at around age 4, and most could be picked up with a standard medical examination. Aiding in this process was a global foundation called SCP, the Superhero Central Protectorate. They sought out youths with Quirks and tried to steer them on the path to becoming superheroes, or scouted notable individuals and offered them an Object of Power to become heroes.
The SCP Foundation also acted as a hero organization, enlisting many particularly notable individuals into their ranks, and giving them numbers to better identify them. They also helped secure and contain any dangerous anomalies that would otherwise threaten the world and find a way to either pacify them or destroy them if they proved too destructive.
Right now, Izuku, Katsuki, Ben, and Morimoto, currently in junior high, were watching as a giant villain was rampaging through the city and already, heroes were on the scene.
The first one to arrive was the Punching Hero: Death Arms, who possessed the Quirk Mighty Arms, a simple but effective super strength Quirk that allowed him to catch a falling radio tower the giant villain had knocked over.
Helping to keep civilians out of the line of fire was the Firefighter Hero: Backdraft, a Rescue Hero whose Quirk, Water Pump, could create an endless supply of water from the spigots growing from his hands, and manipulate that water at will.
Some of the people noted that the giant villain was just an amateur purse thief who got cornered, and it wasn't long before they found out by whom.
Two heroes leaped down, one looking something like a horror-movie monster, with gray skin, long sharp claws, and a mouthful of pointed teeth, and the other looking like he was wearing wood for armor.
The former was Hero-096, the Shy Guy Hero: Vigorshy, and he had the Quirk Personal Radar. This let him zero in on any villain that saw his face, even if it was just a photograph. Pictures of him were often posted along his normal patrol route to facilitate this. From there he could corral the villain using his mutated physiology.
The latter was the Lumber Hero: Kamui Woods, with his Quirk Arbor. This was a simpler Quirk that let him generate and control wood.
The two leaped at the giant villain, who spouted the usual threats and swatted at them as they dodged.
"How thick do you think his skin is at this size?" Vigorshy asked.
"Thick enough that anti-tank rifles would be hard-pressed to pierce it...But he'd still feel the pain."
"All I need to know..." Vigorshy grinned as he leaped at the giant, claws fully extended. "FRENZY RUSH!"
With great speed, he slashed at the villain over and over, the giant barely managing to put up a guard as he winced from the claws scraping against his skin, forcing him back.
"Nice work, Vigorshy!" Kamui Woods called out as he ran along the train bridge. "Just keep him busy a little longer!"
After getting into a good position, the Lumber Hero began extending wooden tendrils that wrapped around the villain's limbs.
"You're charged with assault, robbery, and illegal use of superpowers!" He called out. "LACQUERED CHAIN PRISON!"
"Heads up!" Vigorshy called out.
Kamui Woods saw what his comrade was warning him about and sighed, seeing a large young woman in a skin-tight leotard, a few feet taller than the giant villain, leaping in Kamen Rider style.
"CANYON CANNON!"
She immediately dropkicked the villain, knocking him off the bridge. Cameramen suddenly appeared in droves, trying to get a picture as the attractive woman was bent over while tying up the villain.
"Piece of cake for the world's hottest new superhero. Hello there, everyone, I'm the Mineyama Hero: Mount Lady, and my Quirk is Gigantification." She winked as she struck a provocative pose. "And you don't have to worry about this bum anymore~"
"Can't believe this is our world now..." Ben muttered.
Morimoto nodded. "Every day is like something out of a comic book."
As superpowers became available, villains started rising. And while the world governments had their hands tied trying to rework laws with superpowers in mind, courageous men and women stepped up to contain the chaos.
Scribbling was heard as Katsuki, Ben, and Morimoto turned to see Izuku muttering to himself about Mount Lady's appearance while writing in his notebook.
"Again, Deku?"
The four friends were currently third-year students at Aldera Junior High. The homeroom teacher came into the class, sorting through some papers.
"Alright, you brats. Right about now, you all should be considering your future careers." He then smirked. "But of course, you all obviously wanna be Heroes don't ya?!"
The class cheered as they showed off their Quirks, only for the teacher to quickly settle them down.
"Alright, settle down! I know how excited you all are, but you should understand the two most important attributes of what makes a true hero." The teacher said. "Can anyone give me an answer on what those are?"
Izuku raised his hand. "A willingness to do what is right. And the ability to use your power in a way that can help people."
"Well said, Midoriya." The teacher nodded proudly. "And it's a sad truth that in this day and age, a lot of people only want to be heroes to be popular and wealthy."
"Heh, you got that right, Teach!" Katsuki smirked, his legs propped up on his desk like a delinquent. "Most of these losers would barely scrape by as sidekicks let alone full-on pros!"
"You don't have to be so rude, Bakugou..." Mayumi said, also sitting in class with the four boys.
A few years after befriending the boys, Mayumi ended up in a terrible accident during a villain attack. She managed to survive but lost her limbs, eyes, and ears. The boys and their families were beside themselves and had all gone to make sure she was okay at the hospital, offering their full support.
Fortunately, her father worked for the Anderson Robotics company and with help from famed American support engineer and philanthropist Dr. Thomas Light, created an Object of Power known as the Gyrfalcon, perfectly bonding to Mayumi and restoring what she had lost while also granting her cybernetic powers, courtesy of many special enhancements Dr. Light had installed, including a revolutionary Quirk Emulator, which allowed Mayumi to scan Quirks and adapt her Gyrfalcon cybernetics to create new weapons and tools based on them.
The teacher cleared his throat. "The point is, right now our class only has five students with all the qualifications to enter any high school specializing in training heroes; Midoriya, Bakugou, Toriokoyoshi, Tanaka, and Goto. Especially since they recently aced the mock exam for UA High School."
"Hell yeah, we did!" Katsuki boasted proudly. "The five of us are the smartest in this whole damn class! We're gonna be the greatest hero team of all time like the Avengers and the Justice League!"
"And Mayumi is planning on enlisting in both UA's Hero and Support Courses," Izuku added. "It's not every day a student wishes to enroll in two courses at the same time, y'know."
"Well, she gets her love of support from her dad and Dr. Light." Morimoto chuckled. "After all, the latter saved her life and she wants to be just like him."
Meanwhile, a villain with a Quirk that turned his body into a viscous green sludge was running from a store, cash stuffed into his body. Quickly running after him was Hero-999; the Tickle Monster Hero: Elle-Ate.
Elle-Ate's Quirk was called Jubilation, which allowed her amorphous body to release dopamine in any living being she touched. The mutation that came with her Quirk also came in handy for chasing villains like this one. As the chase occurred, another figure, a skeletal man with blonde hair, came out of a convenience store and spotted the chase.
Figuring Elle-Atte could use some help, the man put away his groceries and focused before suddenly bulking up into a more muscled form.
"Man, it's like there's no stopping these villains." One pedestrian complained as he saw the chase.
"YES THERE IS!" The muscled-up man declared in a booming voice as the people turned and gasped in delight, recognizing who he was. "BECAUSE I AM HERE!"
Izuku and Mayumi had decided to walk home together while Katsuki, Ben, and Morimoto went to hit the arcade. Currently, Izuku was putting the finishing touches on his thirteenth analysis journal for heroes.
"Hey, Izuku?" Mayumi spoke up. "When did you first discover your Quirk was just like your dad's?"
Izuku paused as he thought back to when he had just turned four. He was watching a video of his father, Anthony 'Tony' Panelle, teaming up with All-Might, Japan's #1 Hero, to save a hundred people from a bus crash.
He was running around with his All-Might action figure when he accidentally slammed his head into a wall. However, while there was pain, there was no skull fracture detected despite the high impact. He was quickly transferred to an SCP doctor, who explained everything.
Izuku's Quirk was a perfect replica of his dad's. He could adapt to anything that threatened him on the fly and regenerate to perfect health within a few seconds. Not just injuries, but illnesses, temporary ailments, and basically anything that would cause harm to the body.
When Izuku's father heard the news, he was proud and elated that his son would be just like him. However, despite having the same Quirk, Izuku also wished to become his own hero, which his parents wholly accepted and encouraged.
Ever since that day, Izuku trained his Quirk with Katsuki, Ben, and Morimoto, whose families were all close friends of his. After Mayumi got Gyrfalcon, she began testing her new cybernetic enhancements with the boys, who were all too happy to have her train with them.
Suddenly, a gurgling sound was heard by the two friends as they turned around and saw the Sludge Villain that Elle-Ate had been chasing rising out of a manhole cover.
"A couple of medium-sized invisibility cloaks!" The villain grinned. "Just hold still and it'll only take forty-five seconds!"
Izuku pushed Mayumi out of the way as the Sludge Villain tried to force himself down his throat. However, he got a shock when something started forcing him out.
"Hey, what gives?! Why can't I enter your body?!"
What he didn't know was that Izuku's esophagus and windpipe were contracting and pushing, keeping the foreign body out of his lungs and stomach. Already his Quirk was reacting to the invader, preventing him from body-snatching Izuku.
"Get off him!" Mayumi demanded as her arms turned into cylindrical cannons that fired fist-sized blasts of compressed air that slammed into the Sludge Villain's body, forcing him off Izuku.
"Gah, you stupid bitch!" The villain snapped as he recomposed himself, preparing to try something else when a large figure suddenly shot out of the manhole he had come out of earlier. "OH SHIT!"
"HAVE NO FEAR, BECAUSE I AM HERE!"
Izuku's eyes had stars in them when he heard the voice. Even without the costume, he recognized the blonde muscleman. Mayumi's eyes widened for a similar reason.
"Holy moly, it's All-Might!"
"You may have given Elle-Ate the slip earlier, but no evil can get away once I catch a whiff of it!" All-Might said as he pulled his fist back. "TEXAS SMASH!"
Mayumi's feet produced rambolts to hold her in place as the punch from All-Might created a powerful shockwave that blew the Sludge Villain to bits...and also sent Izuku flying. Fortunately, Mayumi caught him by the collar before he could fly away.
"Sorry about that, young ones!" All-Might apologized after the wind died down. "Are you two alright?"
"No way! Did I just get blown away by one of All-Might's signature smashes?! That was a rush!" Izuku geeked out. "It's a good thing I don't get damaged easily."
All-Might chuckled. "It's good to see you're both unhurt. Anyway, good work keeping that villain at bay. I was able to capture him as a result."
He showed the Sludge Villain, now sealed in an empty soda bottle. Izuku and Mayumi were practically speechless as the former searched for his journal, hoping to get an autograph. However, when he opened it up, he found that All-Might had already signed his signature in it.
"HE ALREADY SIGNED IT?!" Izuku and Mayumi both thought in amazement.
All-Might gave a thumbs up. "Well, I should get this evil-doer over to the proper authorities. You kids stay out of trouble now!"
He took off but was surprised when Izuku wound up grabbing onto his leg for some reason. Mayumi ended up grabbing onto Izuku's leg and was dragged along with them both.
"Whoa there! If you wanted a day to hang out, you could have just asked!"
"I'M SORRY, THERE'S JUST SOMETHING IMPORTANT I NEEDED TO ASK YOU!" Izuku cried.
"COULDN'T YOU HAVE ASKED HIM BEFORE HE JUMPED SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET IN THE AIR?!" Mayumi snapped.
All-Might could sense Izuku was serious, and decided to land on a nearby rooftop. Izuku and Mayumi both took a moment to catch their breath and calm their rattled nerves down.
"I thought I was gonna die...!"
Mayumi glared. "Never do that again...!"
As the two bickered, All-Might was engulfed in a puff of smoke. When Izuku and Mayumi finished regaining their bearings, they turned around and both were flabbergasted when they saw, in the #1 Hero's place, the skeletal man he had been before.
"Sorry about that. So what did you want to ask me?"
Similar to how Children of Whitebeard is my retelling of Ash & Rubber by mtnetsurfer, this one is a retelling of his other smash hit, My Hero SCP!
As you can already see, there are a few differences here; mainly that Izuku is the son of Regenizard this time around and Mayumi Goto, who was a minor supporting character in the original story, has been promoted to main character status here.
As for Ben and Morimoto, they are both based on me and mtnetsurfer himself. The reason is that I wanted to honor him in some capacity since he generously permitted me to retell his stories and even enjoys reading them himself!
There will be plenty of other changes/additions I'll make to the story as I go along. I'm mostly making things up as I go and I hope you all stick around to see what's new! I'll try my best to deliver!
