CHAPTER 287
Joan Murdock opened her eyes and sat up. She stared straight ahead and blinked. Leaving her firearm on the ground she stood.
"Welcome back to the universe," said a voice.
Joan turned and saw Daniel.
"Did you have a nice nap?"
She walked up to him with a slow casual swagger. "Did you enjoy your little rendezvous with the buzzard? I'm certain you two had a lot to talk about."
Daniel didn't say anything. His face narrowed on hers, and he shifted his gun from one hand to the other. There was a moment of silence between them and eventually he broke it.
"We were simply coming to an understanding."
"I'm sure."
"If you've got something to say, Ms. Murdock, then say it."
Joan tilted her head. Her demeanor was passive aggressive, almost playful, and confounding all at once. She looked to the trees bordering the back end of the hanger and seemed to be pondering something unseen. Taking a step in that direction it now appeared that she was dismissing Daniel's very presence.
Daniel himself wasn't sure what to make of it.
A time went by, and Ms. Murdock finally said, "They're coming."
