CHAPTER 351

Through the canopy Richard saw three pteranodons swoop overhead. They had been following her for some time. Until now the thicker branches above had provided enough protection, but now she was at the tree line. There was nothing but open space between her and the end of the pterosaur enclosure.

With a huff she dropped Kyra into a bed of ferns and caught her breath. Examining the base of the enclosure she found the gate where Ms. Murdock had abandoned her dune buggy and gone on by foot.

"Well, it looks as if at least one of us made it out of here alive," Richard said.

To her surprise she heard Kyra stirring at her feet and looked down.

Kyra opened her eyes in a groggy way. Her cheek and her nose were pressed into a patch of moss. She snorted and shook her head as her consciousness fully returned. When Kyra sat up she was staring at Dr. Levine's knees. She blinked and then shifted her eyes to the doctor's face.

"Damn. We're still stuck here," Kyra grunted.

"And still stuck with me I'm afraid." Richard offered a hand.

Kyra took it and pulled herself up. She wavered a little on her feet and winced at a pain in her head.

Richard noticed and said, "just take a moment.

Above, one of the pteranodons swooped low and let out a deep caw that echoed off the surrounding cliffs.

Kyra stooped a bit and looked up at the passing pterosaur, wincing again with the shift of her head. "I know I've been unconscious, but I'm guessing we don't really have a moment."

"That's an accurate presumption," Richard nodded.

Kyra looked out past the tree line and saw the far end of the enclosure and shortly thereafter the gate where Ms. Murdock had abandoned her dune buggy. "Well, I have to give you credit. You've got us this far."

"We're not out yet, my dear," Richard said.

"Any idea whose buggy that is?" Kyra asked.

Richard shook her head.

Kyra frowned a little. "Anything I should know about before we keep going?"

"Nothing worth mentioning now," Richard answered.

"Well, doctor," Kyra looked up and got her bearings on where the circling pteranodons were. "Let's make a run for it."

"Are you sure you're ready for that?" Levine fixed her eyes at Kyra.

"As ready as I'll ever be, doctor." Kyra started prepping her body for a sprint.

"Fair enough," Richard began to do the same.

"And doctor," Kyra said.

"Yes?"

"Thanks for hauling my ass all that way."

"Oh, don't mention-"

"Go!" Kyra barked.
