CHAPTER 355
As Kyra jogged down toward the gate grass slapped at her shins. She looked around at the party of raptors accompanying them and she still couldn't quite believe it. Seth on the other hand didn't seem much phased by it at this point. He must have seen or known something that she hadn't, Kyra thought. In that regard Kyra was thinking he must have seen a lot of things since they parted ways. He did not look the same.
Kyra turned her mouth to Dr. Levine who was jogging beside her. "This whole raptor thing would have been something to know before we set off."
"It wasn't a thing yet." Richard replied.
"Well, how did it become a thing?" Kyra asked.
"I'm not really quite sure yet." Levine said. "There's a lot of mystery around this island that I've scarcely had the opportunity to unfold."
"You do realize these things have been trying to kill us this whole time, don't you?" Kyra said in a bit of a condescending tone.
"Yes, that fact has not eluded me," Levine explained, "but I do believe there's an evolving order to the way of things here, and a rapid one at that. These creatures are rationalizing their place among us and learning what survival means for them in this new world."
There was a sudden bark from Ghost that was reciprocated by Needles. Roadkill shot a backward glance and then cawed three times at Vulture.
"What's going on?" Kyra asked Dr. Levine.
Before Richard could answer, Seth said, "She's coming for us."
Kyra looked back and saw the spinosaurus tromping down after them. They had a good head start, but the beast was still too close for comfort.
"Shit." She looked ahead of her.
Levine stated firmly, "the gate is not far. Eyes forward. Keep moving."
