CHAPTER 365
The bellow of the spinosaurus thundered loud behind the raptors. Vulture led the group around the perimeter of the concrete pad in search of Rebirtha. She could hear the tyrannosaur somewhere beyond the plethora of pallets. There was a definitive commotion there, and now Vulture was gathering the impression that Rebirtha was in an altercation with another large theropod.
Vulture barked to her loyal velociraptors, and they all perked up as though heeding a caution. Kyra could feel the quills of Needle's hide prickling around her skin as she held on. She could tell in the raptor's face that there was a reason for concern.
Dr. Levine picked up on the same thing, and as they rounded a sharp corner of pallets she saw why.
Rebirtha was on the ground. She was cut and bloodied all across her ivory scaled body. Her hind talons kicked with fury at the air as her tail flipped up and whacked the dirt. Gigantor was above her and had her pinned. The great carnivore had her teeth around Rebirtha's neck. The beast did not even notice Vulture and her small pack of cohorts intruding upon them. It wasn't until the spinosaurus came ramming through the pallets that Gigantor looked up.
The whole corner of pallet stacks came crashing down with a massive clatter that could not be ignored. The spinosaur's long jagged snout stabbed through like a huge javelin, and her body thrust past like a wrecking ball. As the falling pallets settled the crocodile-like dinosaur sifted her foot claws through the rubble in a matter of steps and then paused at the sight of Gigantor.
Vulture and the three velociraptors brought themselves to a halt between the three super predators. Dr. Levine watched from Vulture's back as Gigantor and the spinosaurus sized each other up. Seth and Kyra were doing the same, their heads snapping back and forth from one beast to the other.
"Oh shit," Kyra said. She tightened her grip on Needles.
Seth looked not to be phased, but Dr. Levine had a hint of thrill beneath the skin of her face that she couldn't help.
Gigantor lifted her teeth from Rebirtha's neck and uprighted herself. Rebirtha quickly squirmed out from under Gigantor and tried to bite her ankle while she was still on the ground. Gigantor kicked her in the face with a quick set of hind talons, and the t-rex recoiled. Shaking her snout Rebirtha stood up in a clunky unbalanced way and took note of the spinosaur's presence.
As the three super predators eyed each other and took measure of the situation Seth plainly stated, "this is going to be catastrophic."
Dr. Levine's kindling excitement grew. "Yes," she whispered.
