CHAPTER 250

Seth turned from the window and looked at Daniel. Daniel was still looking through the glass like he had been the whole time, but then he unexpectedly turned Seth's way. Seth saw an alert expression, one that had noticed a change in the room. Something was different. Seth was about to ask if everything was ok, but Daniel put a finger to Seth's lips.

"Shh."

Daniel's eyes shifted past Seth, and Seth followed them to where Ms. Murdock was still sitting behind the desk. It took him a moment to realize what was different about her, but he did notice it. She wasn't rocking any more. The soft creaking of the office chair was gone. Ms. Murdock wasn't moving at all. In fact, it looked to Seth like she was even holding her breath. In the dark he detected what could've been a slight smile across her mouth. There was a glint that flashed across her eyes as they gestured back to the window. It invoked in Seth an unwelcome feeling that he was again in danger. The chill in his spine reinforced this notion and gave him a growing sense that in the brief moment they'd looked away from the glass something had snuck up behind them.
