There were a few dozen tables in the auditorium setup for bingo. All the monsters grabbed some bingo cards and sat down ready to play. A elderly female monster with really big pointy ears sat next to a ball tumbler full of tiny skulls instead of balls. The monster would crank the tumbler and a skull would fall out and whisper the number in her ear and then she would quietly speak the number into a microphone. It was a slow game as the players strained to hear the numbers as well as focus on their bingo cards. Emily took this opportunity to sneak away and retrieve Johnny's backpack from the coat closet and then she returned and singled Johnny over to her to have a private conversation. Johnny was very happy to see his backpack again.
"Oh I'm so glad to see this again. Thanks Emily." Said Johnny.
"You're welcome." Said Emily right before Maggot decided to say hi by pushing his right eyeball out of it's socket and poking his body out.
"Hello." Said Maggot.
Johnny let out a tiny eep and jumped back startled as Emily caught her eyeball as it fell out.
"Sorry about that." Said Emily.
"So this is the human guest." Said Black Widow poking her head out of Emily's ear.
"Wait...so you have talking bugs living inside you?" Asked Johnny in both amazement and horror.
"Just those two. I'm hollow inside and can't feel anything, so they really don't bother and they're pleasant company." Said Emily.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Maggot." Said Maggot.
"And I'm Black Widow." Said Black Widow.
"Cool. Nice to meet you too." Said Johnny.
Black Widow ducked back into the ear and Maggot sucked himself back into the eye socket allowing Emily to put her eye back in.
"Now Johnny I have a question for you." Said Emily.
"What's that?" Asked Johnny.
"How do you feel about Mavis? Do you see her as a friend or something more?" asked Emily.
"Well...when I first saw Mavis I thought she was cute and amazing. And ever since then I hadn't been able to stop thinking about her." Said Johnny.
"A zing." Said Emily.
"What's a zing?" Asked Johnny.
"Love at first sight. Me and Dracula had it when we first meet long ago." Said Emily with a small smile.
"So...Mavis feels the same way?" Asked Johnny.
"She does." Said Emily.
"Whoa! I'm in love with Dracula's daughter and she loves me back! She isn't going to get into any trouble for this is she?" Said Johnny.
"No Dracula and I love Mavis as well as every other monster in the hotel. Though there are a few who might be against the idea of Mavis falling in love with a human." Said Emily.
"Have monster and humans fallen in love before or are me and Mavis the first?" Asked Johnny.
"I believe there was a brief period in time where a few monster and humans fell in love, but humans weren't excepting of their relationship. Now monsters live in hiding away from humans, so you and Mavis would be the first monster human couple in a long time." Said Emily.
"Though Mavis doesn't know I'm a human dressed as a monster. Would she still love me?" Said Johnny.
"I think she would still love you if you revealed your true identity. Any anger she has, me and Dracula would take since it was us that disguised you and made you pretend to be a monster." Said Emily.
"Cool. You seem like you would make a great mother-in-law." Said Johnny.
"And you seem like you would make a great son-in-law." Said Emily with a smile,
Johnny felt a little awkward with talking about becoming future family members, but felt calm and happy around Emily. He then decided to change the subject.
"So...if you don't mind me asking, how did you die the first time before becoming a undead?"
"It was a long time ago and I wasn't too much older then you, when a young man charmed me into believing he was my true love. I didn't zing for him, so he really wasn't, but I didn't know about zings back then. The man convinced me to runaway with him and to gather up some of my family's treasure to take with us. I met him in the woods, where he stabbed me, stole my treasure, and I died soon after. Then some time later I awoke as a undead and met Dracula." Said Emily.
"Whoa. I'm...so sorry that happened to you." Said Johnny.
"It's fine. It may have been horrible, but I met Dracula because of that experience and I got a family and ton of friends." Said Emily.
"You remember the name of the guy who killed you?" Asked Johnny.
"His name was Barkis Bittern, though he did go by a nickname. I believe it was the Bride Butcher due to how he would trick women into becoming his brides before murdering them." Said Emily.
"The Bride Butcher! I heard about him! He was a really messed up guy and I heard he never got caught." Said Johnny.
"I heard that too. Hopefully Barkis faced punishment in the afterlife after he died." Said Emily.
Bingo had just finished up and the tables were being removed for the next activity. Charades.
"Well let's go join them. You can reveal your true self to Mavis when your ready, though I advise you to not do it in front of the other guests." Said Emily.
"Cool. Thanks. That was a nice talk. You're a pretty cool girl Emily." Said Johnny taking his backpack.
"Thank you. And you're a pretty cool guy." Said Emily.
The two joined the other monsters to setup for the next activity.
To be continued.
