I HAVE FINALLY FOUND IT.
THIS OBSCENE PLANE OF EXISTENCE THAT HID ITSELF FROM MY VIEW.
I HAD ONLY SEEN TRACES OF IT BEFORE I ENDED EACH OF MY MEALS…
"Aw, shaddup will ya?!" Sonic shouted as he flew towards The End as one of its tentacles reached towards them.
The form it had taken was that of EVE, a giant squid-like form with numerous tentacles and a body akin to a crystal-like brain. Two massive orbs represented its eyes, while a giant gaping maw seemed to drool in hunger.
It didn't take Tails to understand the reason why. EVE was basically Sonic's first real encounter with death. Back when he was a kid he thought he saw her blast Robotnik into dust, killing him in seconds. Unfortunately for everyone, that wasn't the case. But the memory had still lingered in his mind, especially during their second and final meeting.
One of the tentacles lazily reached towards Sonic, but the thing wasn't looking at him. Not really. Instead it was observing the rest of the Chaos Force.
IT'S TIME HAS COME. I DELAYED FOR LONG ENOUGH.
IT IS NOW READY TO BECOME A PART OF SOMETHING GREATER.
THE CULMINATION OF MY-
It was ignoring them, as if they were beneath its notice.
Time to fix that.
Sonic reached out and grasped the tentacle. Cracks began to form across it, white smoke billowing out in an obscene hiss. That hiss turned into a scream as it turned completely white and then crumbled into ash that flew in nonexistent wind.
The hedgehog grinned.
Alright. Looks like his little hypothesis was correct.
Chaos Energy was bad for this thing.
WHAT… IS THIS?
The End's EVE form looked around before finally landing on the three of them. It glanced at Jani-Ca and spoke.
YOU… I REMEMBER YOU. A NEW GOD…
ONE… CREATED…
It drew back, but five more tentacles shot forward and raced towards them. Sonic grinned and curled into a ball, spinning in the air before shooting forward. Within nanoseconds he was cutting through one of the incoming tentacles. His quills cut through the alien flesh as if it were a hot knife through butter, splitting it through the middle before he flew up and kicked The End in the middle of its 'face'.
"You're not just dealing with her anymore, ugly!" The Hyper Hedgehog shouted cockily. "I promised I would be back, remember?!"
The End let out a cry and drew back, but Sonic took this as an opportunity to glance at how Nicole and Jani-Ca were handling themselves.
The future echidna flew to the left and with the swing of her sword, cut through one of the obscene appendages and used her free hand to blast the other one with a Chaos Spear. It froze, twitching as green Chaos Energy danced along it. The daughter of Knuckles took this as an opportunity to fly up and cut the tentacle, the two halves glowing in white holy light before they burned into nothingness.
The holo-lynx approached her 'opponents' differently. She closed her eyes and raised her arms. In an instant, a building appeared in between one tentacle, glitching slightly as the appendage twitched. Sonic could now understand why. The flesh was now trapped inside of the concrete and iron, fused due to now occupying the same space.
"Hope that hurts."
Nicole opened her eyes and then shot upwards, avoiding the swipe of another tentacle. She opened both of her palms and pointed them down, the center of each glowing before pink blasts of light rained down. They hit the alien flesh, causing it to turn from magenta to red within seconds until they both burned and began to disintegrate.
The End hissed at this, turning its attention to Sonic and then glaring.
ALL OF YOU… ALL OF YOU ARE GODS.
ONES CREATED BY THE SCREAMING MEAT THAT MY SHADOW CREATED.
I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME.
"Yeah, because you predicted that one day someone would have enough of your crap and would make something to fight back!" Sonic snarked and flew forward to continue its assault. "Get real! Acting all high and mighty like that isn't impressing anyone!"
FOOLISH THING!
I HAVE KNOWN THIS OBSCENITY WOULD OCCUR FROM THE MOMENT MY SHADOW CREATED THE FIRST LIVING THING!
The false EVE drew back further into the portal it created, more of its obscene appendages growing to replace the new ones before the tentacles thrust forward in speeds far greater than before…
"Sonic!" Nicole screamed from behind him. "Start running…"
Sonic crouched down before he felt the ground on his feet.
"NOW!"
He grinned and then raced forward, the pixelated street curling up with him following it. The tentacles that had been aiming for him broke through the ground he had been standing on, the evil god's vision obscured as Sonic ran up a loop before coming down. At the end he saw the Jump Panel and began flying once more.
The added speed helped him avoid the last of The End's appendages as he then curled his body before kicking downwards, hitting the mass of tentacles which burst at his touch.
The End's EVE form snarled before drawing back even further.
THE DESIGN OF REALITY WAS PERFECT.
MY OTHER HALF WOULD PERFORM HIS WORK WHILE I WOULD PERFORM MINE.
A GRAND TAPESTRY OF ORDER.
THEN… MY SHADOW CREATED LIFE.
CREATED CHAOS INCARNATE.
The End withdrew further into the portal, and it shifted once more into the half-tentacle half-insect arm Sonic had seen before.
COME.
COME AND SEE THE CULMINATION OF MY GRAND STORY. OF MY PURPOSE.
COME AND SEE THE END.
"That thing sure loves the sound of its own voice." Sonic muttered to himself before turning back. "Alright, guys! Let's go!"
"Right!" Nicole and Jani-Ca flew towards him.
He looked over their shoulder to see the Neo-Walkers concentrating, sweat on their brow as they floated around the Super Master Emerald.
"We'll try and keep that thing busy!" He shouted at them. "You guys just keep working your magic, alright?!"
Not waiting for an answer, the Hyper Hedgehog flew through the portal…
…and saw it.
The End was once again an obscene tree, standing tall with its many branches extended through portals that once contained universes. Now, in their place, there was nothing but white. White that spread with each passing second, all traces of stars and galaxies and reality wiped clean. As if someone had taken an eraser to all that had been and scrubbed it out on a piece of paper.
Its eye, that terrible black hole, seemed to focus on them at that instant.
Its form rippled and shifted…
…before settling onto the form of the ADAM-possessed Tommy Turtle, the golden form now containing a purple sheen.
COME, NEW GODS.
BEAR WITNESS TO HOW A TRUE GOD FUNCTIONS.
"Seriously?! You think you can try and use him on me?!"
Sonic never forgot Tommy Turtle's sacrifice.
It was a horrible moment that stuck with him for a good while. Tommy, his childhood friend, had always seemed to come back from certain doom. And while some of his other friends grumbled about the turtle's clumsy nature, and it certainly did grate a bit on Sonic's own nerves at times, Tommy was someone he was glad to have around. He never wanted to lose any of his friends, and the fact they were able to live to see tomorrow was proof that Sonic was doing his job as the Hero of Mobius.
But… then Tommy died.
Died because of ADAM, Eggman's artificial intelligence son that went completely mad.
Tommy sacrificed himself after he regained control, claiming that ADAM would eventually regain control and he'd never get it back. And while Sonic wanted to argue with his friend, the nagging back of his mind told him that the turtle was right. He and ADAM were both Super thanks to the Chaos Emeralds, and the fight would've been devastating for Mobius.
But that didn't make it any better.
His friend was still dead… and Sonic couldn't do anything to stop it.
However… seeing this… this thing try and use that against him?
All it did was tick the hedgehog off.
Sonic flew towards the End and glared at the thing trying to use ADAM's form. "What? You think you can just slap on that mask and I'll cower in fear!? Curl up into a ball and cry?! DREAM ON!"
The End didn't respond, merely flapping ADAM's right wing. The pseudo-feathers detached, sailing towards Sonic in speeds far greater than what its tentacles exhibited.
Cursing, the Hedgehog shot to the right and shouted, "Jani-Ca!"
"I'm on it!" The echidna brought forward her arms as light purple energy blasts shot forward, raining down on the feathers until they began to crack. "And you need to keep your head on straight! You aren't the only one this thing is trying to mess with!"
"What do you see?" Sonic asked, curling into a ball and spinning. He felt himself spinning faster and faster, each attosecond seeming to build up more power until…
…he began to feel himself split, and he began to see different angles of the same path…
…then he let himself go.
The Hyper Hedgehog shot forward, smashing into one of the partially broken feathers and causing it to shatter into tiny pieces. He turned around and saw to his amazement ghostly images of himself making contact with the other feathers and destroying them before disappearing.
"That's new"
He turned his attention back to Jani-Ca, who was floating before Nicole. The echidna was glaring forward while the holo-lynx had materialized holographic keypads, which she was typing on rapidly with closed eyes.
"What else?" The future daughter of his friends asked. "My father."
Sonic shook his head and pointed at the End. "Hey! Ugly! How about you stop trying to mess with our heads? It isn't going to work!" He smirked. "Why don't you show us your real mug and make this an actual fight?"
The 'ADAM' mouth sneered.
FOOLISH NEW GOD.
YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT I AM.
YOU DO NOT DESERVE THAT RIGHT.
ALL YOU SHALL SEE…
ALL YOU SHALL HEAR…
ALL YOU SHALL SPEAK TO…
…ARE MASKS.
MASKS CRAFTED BY YOUR OWN MINDS.
"Fine. Have it your own way." Sonic smirked and looked at Nicole. "Guess we'll have to just kick your butt…"
Nicole typed on one final key and a smirk formed on her own face as she opened her eyes.
"…Until we rip your masks off ourselves!" She finished, and reality seemed to shimmer in the space around The End.
The branches, once invisible, had now appeared once more. Sonic didn't waste any time and flew towards one of the tentacles before his feet touched upon the alien flesh. The surface, once transformed into water, bubbled and seemed to become solid as if a wound had scabbed over.
YOU ARE ALL BUT ARTIFICIAL CREATIONS OF BEINGS WHO DELAYED THE INEVITABLE.
WHAT HOPE DO YOU HAVE OF PREVENTING THE GRAND DESIGN OF REALITY?
"Oh, we thought of something." Sonic took in a deep breath…
…And ran.
Nonexistent wind rushed through his quills as he ran further and further up the limb, dark appendages burst from the surface, flailing about and trying to grab at him. But he was too fast, he was faster than he had ever gone. He could feel beneath his feet trillions of souls, all of them humming with life with the trailing feelings of terror, reach out to him. He could feel his energy flowing from his feet and into them, and he could feel them begin to calm.
As if they realized everything was going to be alright.
Soon, he was in the middle of the appendage and turned on his heel…
…before running around the branch of the mad god.
Underneath, in the cold water, he could feel the fluids begin to swirl as if a drain was sucking up the water. Around and around, seconds turning into nanoseconds and then into attoseconds, as Sonic ran around the limb as if it were a circular course.
He could feel the Cores that The End had taken from this one universe being sucked back in.
WHAT IS THIS?
NO!
THEY… THEY ARE MINE!
THEIR FATES WERE MINE TO DETERMINE!
"Says who? You?!" Sonic grinned and jumped off, turning around and seeing afterimages of himself running around the limb in a circle. With a snap of his fingers, the remaining souls were sucked away from the End's grasp. The once massive appendage had shrunken down to a fraction of what it once was, as if he had twisted a balloon. Once it was small enough, the afterimages disappeared. "Well, we've got something to say about that!"
Jani-Ca flew towards the focal point, letting out a cry as she swung the Sword of Light and cut the branch into two.
The End let out a screech as the part still connected to it turned into ash. The Cores spilled out of the other half, floating into the space as Jani-Ca raised her arms and began to recite her prayer.
"The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is power... Power enriched by the heart. The controller serves to unify the Chaos."
Light purple Chaos energy began to glow around each Core, staying in place as Nicole floated in front of the white space that they had once come from. Closing her eyes, the Holo-Lynx put forward her arms…
…And Sonic watched in awe as, in mere seconds, a new universe was created.
Worlds… suns… stars… galaxies… he could see them all being build from purple and black lines of code before becoming pixelated and then transformed into the real deal. When Nicole nodded, Jani-Ca let out a grunt and all the Cores shot into the portal. Once the last were fed inside the portal it closed, sealed with a stream of pixels as the two turned their attention back to the End.
"Impressed?" Sonic asked, rubbing his nose with his thumb. "And that was just a taste of what we have in store for y-."
The End let out a screech.
One that shook the space around them, sounding like the screams of so many lost souls.
Sonic could even hear his own voice among them.
YOU DARE?!
YOU DARE BELIEVE YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT IS WRITTEN?!
WHAT YOU PERFORMED WAS A MERE FLUKE!
I AM THE END!
I AM ETERNAL!
I AM INEVITABLE!
I HAD WRITTEN THEIR FATE!
IT IS MY RIGHT!
AND THE MISTAKE YOU FOISTED UPON THE UNIVERSE SHALL BE CORRECTED!
"You can try." Sonic then flew with the other two godlike beings directly to the next tentacle as The End's form began to shift, his time into EVE's second form. "But I don't think it's going to work out the way you think, ugly!"
"I-I can't believe that worked!"
Nicole turned her head to Jani-Ca to see the echidna woman lower her arms and smiling crookedly as they flew towards their enemy. Her hands were still aflame with the purple chaos energy she wielded, bringing brightly amid the darkness
Nicole smirked at her. "Sonic had faith we could pull it off, and usually it turns out he is right most of the time."
It was just in Sonic the Hedgehog's nature. He would rush head first into battle, regardless of the odds, and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. He would fight against the forces of evil and tyranny with a wink, a grin, and a smart remark while shrugging off any potential danger.
And he would look cool while doing it.
It was part of the reason why Sally fell in love with him in the first place.
It was why he was the hero of Mobius.
"What can I say? I'm a pretty lucky 'hog!" Sonic laughed as they pursued the fleeing End. It appears to Nicole in the form of the transformed Tails Doll, giant flesh-like wings batting against nonexistent skies.
"I guess you are." Jani-Ca muttered while shaking her head. "Now let's hurry up and try to make this thing throw up the other universes!"
"Couldn't have said it better myself!"
The End let out scream before, with a flap of its wings, balls of red and white energy sailed towards them.
YOU FIGHT AGAINST THE INEVITABLE.

TO PRESERVE WHAT IS ALREADY TAINTED?
TAINTED LONG AGO BY THE CHAOS YOU ALREADY EMBODY?
Cursing, the holo-lynx calculated the path to the nearby branch and raised her hands.
In an instant, pixelated outlines appeared around four of the balls along with lines of code interlocking them.
"Sonic! Hit those!"
"You got it!" The hyper hedgehog curled into a ball and shot himself forward like a homing missile. The first bubble burst upon impact, Sonic letting out a cheer before seeing the next one and doing the same again and again. Once he finished with the final ball, he thrust his fit in the air. "Okay, Nicole! Now what?!"
Her brow furrowing, the artificial intelligence raised her hand and a rail appeared underneath Sonic's feet. Grinning, the hedgehog began to grind on them rapidly, sailing past the faster energy projectiles through loops they could not possibly hit in time before a spring materialized at the end. Sonic hit it, and was flung towards the branch
"WOO!" Sonic cheered before he began to run loops around the branch. "Nice job!"
"He's acting this like a party!" Jani-Ca was in disbelief as she and Nicole sailed through the maelstrom of energy bullets. The female echidna threw multiple blasts, destroying each of the End's projectiles with Chaos Energy while Nicole created fals buildings, roads, and robot bodies to act as shields against any cluster that drew too close. "Mom said he was like this, but it's unreal actually seeing it! You'd think he'd be treating this a bit more seriously!"
"It's just how Sonic rolls, as he would put it! You get used to it!" The holo-lynx smirked before pointing towards the rapidly twisting portion of the limb that Sonic leapt off from. "Go! I'll cover for you!"
The female echidna nodded and flew away, Nicole turning her head towards the End as its singular bright purple eye glared at her.
IN THE BEGINNING, THERE WAS NO CHAOS.
ONLY ME… AND MY OPPOSITE.
WE WERE CREATED FOR A PURPOSE.
TO CREATE AND TO DESTROY.
The holo-lynx grit her teeth as she began pulling from her memories. Buildings built by the Ancients, Mobians, Humans, and Overlanders continued to appear in front of her as makeshift shields, and once they were being hammered by the energy blasts she raised her own arms and began generating artificial Chaos Spears.
They weren't pure Chaos Energy, but they would get the job done.
Throwing them, she watched in satisfaction as the End's attacks burst upon impact.
IT WAS OUR FUNCTION. OUR DUTY.
CREATION AND DESTRUCTION WITHOUT DEVIATION.
ONE FULFILLS THE OTHER WITHOUT INTERFERENCE.
A BEGINNING AND AN END. ALL WAS WRITTEN. ALL WAS WELL.
THEN… HE PRESUMED TO DEVIATE FROM OUR PATH.
The sound that echoed through the space was like flesh being torn, a wet rip that snapped upon the end.
She turned her head to see the branch had been cut open, Cores spilling out from the bisected limb as if they were a shower of blood.
"Nicole! We need you over here!" Sonic shouted, motioning her to come. She nodded and flew towards them. She raised her arms and furrowed her brow, creating a hole within time and space as she built.
Energy and matter were like lines of code, which she could create and calculate within seconds. The same went for mortal bodies. Those of Mobians, humans, Overlanders, animals, and of the numerous alien races that populated throughout the universes. But creating those bodies was difficult compared to celestial ones.
A sun was easy. It was merely a matter of creating the right amount of gas and dust with a small manipulation of gravity.
Creating a mortal body? That was tough. It was not a matter of just gathering the chemical ingredients that comprised one. It was more intricate than that. A nervous system must be created before the circulatory system, skeletons, muscles, and flesh could even be addressed. It was more like painting than it was coding, and it was the hardest part of her task.
The skin had to be just right, as does the hair and fur color. Height must also be correct, as is the placement of the organs. Eyes were the most difficult, as a single mistake could lead to complete blindness.
If she were to create these new bodies from scratch, they wouldn't take mere seconds. They would take days, and they didn't have that kind of time.
Thankfully, she had a base.
The Cores flew past her, and their data flowed into her. She could see their memories, the bodies they looked at in the mirror. She could hear the health information they received from their doctors and forgot about it once they left the hospital. She could read and understand the maps and the placements of trees and rocks. And just as quickly as she received this information, planets and mortal bodies were created.
And when she opened her eyes, an entire new Zone was made.
It was like the future Mobius she had once left before arriving in the Prime Zone, but with differences. One of which was it had been ruled by a Shadow who had gone mad with power and a desire to create peace through fear. He had been deposed, and Sonic had become king with Sally as his queen. They had two beautiful children, and…
"This…" Nicole turned her head and saw Jani-Ca was holding one of the Cores in her sword-free hand. Her eyes were wide with shock as she stared into the green ball of energy. "This is… me. A version of me. She…" A tear rolled down her cheek. "She… she had lived a happy life. She still calls herself Lara-Su…!"
Nicole winced. She had gotten small hints at the echidna's past, but it was enough. For her to see a version of herself that lived the life she had only dreamed of…!
"A future I couldn't be a part of. I couldn't help her Sally or Sonic… I couldn't help Jani-Ca or Julie-Su when they needed me the most because I had to be in another Zone…"
If she had been there… could Jani-Ca have gotten a taste of the life Lara-Su had?
"Uh, guys!" Sonic cried out, and she saw the hedgehog was launching himself and his afterimages at the balls of energy that The End was launching. "Might want to hurry this up! I think we ticked it off!"

I TRIED TO ACCOMMODATE FOR MY SHADOW'S WHIMS.
I ALLOWED FOR THIS AMUSING DIVERSION, FOR IT WAS JUST THAT.
A DIVERSION WITH NO BEARING ON THE COSMIC ORDER.
AN EXPERIMENT THAT MEANT NOTHING, FOR MY DUTIES WERE ABSOLUTE.
AND YET…! AS THE YEARS PASSED ON…!
IT BECAME THE UGLINESS I SEE BEFORE ME!
"Aw, your bro didn't want to play by your rules?!" Sonic snapped back cockily as he destroyed another ball. "I'm hurt for you!"
"Jani-Ca!" Nicole flew to the echidna and put her hand on her shoulder. "I… I understand this hurts, but we cannot slow down now! The End is coming, and so many other universes need us!"
The future daughter of her friends closed her eyes and wiped away her tears with her free hand. "I-I know." She shook her head and let the Core go, allowing it to fly into the rapidly closing portal. It shot towards its intended body, which was sleeping on a couch with her boyfriend after watching the prince and princess of Mobius play. "…Good luck, Lara-Su."
Nicole stared at the Core sadly.
"That was one of the Zones I had lived in for a time. I… I wonder if the Sally, Sonic, and Rotor of that Zone realized the truth of what happened."
If she had stayed there, she could have been a part of their lives.
Maybe she would have been a part of Lara-Su's life, another member of the Future Freedom Fighters.
Perhaps she would've been 'Aunt Nicole' to Sonia and Manik.
"But then I wouldn't have been here, saving them all. Being that Sally's friend once more, even from a distance."
The portal sealed, and the End let out another cry of rage.
FOOLISH NEW GOD!
DO YOU NOT SEE THE MADNESS YOU REPRESENT?!
CHAOS MADE INCARNATE, EACH DECISION MADE FROM MULTIPLE PASTS TO CREATE A BRANCHING FUTURE!
"Maybe if you stopped talking in riddles and metaphors I'd take you a bit more seriously." Sonic flew to the next branch. "Not that it'd stop me from ruining your day! You already ruined mine, so fair's fair!"
Nicole and Jani-Ca nodded to one another before following their friend's path.
They had no time to waste on what could have been and the lives they would not get to lead.
It was time to save the future.
All of their futures.
"Okay, this thing is officially beyond ticked."
Before it was content in just throwing stuff at them, be it the balls of energy or whatever stuff it was comprised of in the form it took.
Now it was bringing out the big guns.
Sonic brought himself lower as he saw a spark of red light form in the space in front of him. He narrowly dodged one of the energy balls before a massive pillar of red energy erupted from nonexistent space. The blast likely would've been enough to seriously mess him up if it had made contact, and that was all the proof he needed to know one thing.
The End wasn't screwing around anymore.
THE CREATION OF LIFE WITHIN YOUR PLANE OF THE MULTIVERSE… THE PRIME OF ALL CREATION… CHANGED EVERYTHING.
THE BEINGS BROUGHT TO EXISTENCE SOUGHT TO ESCAPE THEIR END.
TO DELAY THE INEVITABLE THROUGH DECISIONS.
FREE WILL… SUCH UNBRIDLED ARROGANCE!
AND IN THAT ARROGANCE THEY CREATED UNIVERSES UPON UNIVERSES!
"It's not acting like we're hurting it!" Jani-Ca yelled as she swiped with her sword, an arch of Chaos energy bursting the projectiles that were heading her way. "And we keep chopping off its arms! We might as well be breaking twigs off of a tree!"
"Harming it isn't our main priority!" Nicole shouted back, clapping her hands as numerous GUN Hunters materialized to pile themselves on top of a spark of red light. It did no good, and all of them were vaporized just as the holo-lynx dodged to the right. "It's freeing the universes that it is consuming!"
"Well, whether we're hurting it or not we're definitely making it focus on trying to kill us!" Sonic curled into a ball and shot forward, landing on one of the limbs. In an instant, he was circling around it before leaping off as his past selves… afterimages… whatever… continued their work. "And the more it does that the more we can focus on our work without having to worry!"
He snapped his fingers, and the choke point was formed while the souls closer to the End's gulled were brought away from it. The echidna dodged bullets and laser blasts before she was able to swing her sword and free the Cores of another universe.
Nicole nodded and flew past Sonic to do her work. "Let's hope we can keep it like that!"
LIGHT UNIVERSES… DARK UNIVERSES…
UNIVERSES WHERE LIFE WAS CREATED AND UNIVERSES WHERE IT WAS NOT![
FOR EVEN THE DISGUSTING WRECH THAT CRAWLED OUT OF THE PRIMODIAL OOZE COULD CHOOSE WHETHER IT CONTINUED TO LIVE OR DIE!
Sonic could tell that the End was more focused on them because it just wouldn't shut up!
It was trying to lecture them, to break down their spirits, while also trying to kill them.
"It's not trying to justify itself to us… it's like it is reciting some kinda wacko manifesto!"
I STOOD BY… TRYING TO FULFILL MY DUTY… TO ACCOMODATE FOR MY OPPOSITE'S WHIMS… AND FOR WHAT?!
ORDER HAD CEASED TO BE WHEN LIFE CAME INTO EXISTENCE!

"How are we ungrateful for trying to live our lives?!" Sonic shot back while curling into a ball. His other selves appeared around him and did the same, launching themselves at the projectiles aimed for Nicole and Jani-Ca. "We're not characters in some book only you can write the ending to!"
The Enerjak of a dark future finished her prayer while the Cores sailed past them and into the bodies of the new universe that Nicole created, sealing it safely into White Space awaiting the end of their mission.
Another universe saved.
Who knows how many to go.
"Nobody has that right, least of all some crazy god like you!"
The End simply shouted back at him

MY FUNCTION IS NOW MY WEAPON AGAINST ALL THAT MY SHADOW CREATED!
The more the End talked, the more it ticked Sonic off.
This thing… when it was stripped of all its terrible mystery and the big threat it represented… it was the same kind of greedy madman as Robotnik and Eggman.
Just another creep that wanted to control how things should be run in the world.
It talked a big game, but thats all it was in the end.
"Which means it's just another villain I can punch. No more and no less."
THE CHAOS CREATED BY LIFE FREIGHTENS AND DISGUSTS ME.
It transformed once again, turning into an Eggman robot Sonic could vaguely remember.
It was from the memories forced on him in that version of reality caused by the Genesis Wave.
The Final Weapon used by that Doctor Eggman while trying to steal the Master Emerald.
SO I SHALL DEVOUR IT.
I SHALL KILL IT.
"It even looks like that thing on the mural…" Guess he finally got to that point of the prophecy.
Shaking his head, Sonic readied himself as the thing reared back its left arm and punched forward.
ONCE THE SCREAMING MEAT HAS BEEN SILENCED FOREVER, I SHALL MEET MY OPPOSITE AGAIN.
Sonic let out a cry and flew forward, the arm shifting into the tip of a branch that uncurled itself at him.
THEY WILL CEASE TO BE BY MY OWN HANDS.
There was no way to dodge it.
"Only thing to do is just power on through!" Sonic shouted before throwing a punch before the appendage could make contact with him.
Time slowed to a crawl as he followed up that punch with a kick.
Then another punch followed, as did another kick.
Again and again and again, his limbs becoming a blur as his body moved from place to place.
In the corner of his sight, he could see afterimages of his past and future following up his attacks or coreographing where he needed to strike next.
The hyper hedgehog grinned and did just that.
Cracks began to form across the surface while the End continued to talk.
THE NOTHINGNESS SHALL RETURNED.
ORDER SHALL BE RESTORED.
I SHALL SEE ALL THAT I HAVE UNDONE, AND IT WILL BE GOOD.
AS IT SHOULD BE.
"Like I'm going to let that…" Sonic threw one final punch. "HAPPEN!"
The limb shattered as if it was porcelain, turning white from his Chaos Energy before disappearing in the nonexistent sky
But one thing flew out from its remains.
A single red Core.
Sonic flew up and grabbed it, holding it in his hands. He studied it for a second.
"It feels… familiar…"
It pulsed, and the hedgehog could feel it.
The indignant childlike rage, the almost computer-like mind reaching out to study all around it and understand its new circumstances, and… and the yearning to be greater than it once was.
He recognized it all.
He could practically see his face.
"That was incredible, kid!" Jani-Ca and Nicole flew by his side and looked over his shoulder. "A Core? Just one? What…"
"It's him…!" Sonic hissed, his eyes furrowing to a glare.
He couldn't believe it… and yet he kinda expected it.
Of course Eggman, his Eggman, would be too stubborn to just die.
"Him? What do you…?" Realization dawned on Nicole's face as she stared at the orb. "I-Impossible…!"
"What should we do?" Jani-Ca wasn't even asking who it was. She probably put the pieces together herself.
Sonic glared at the Core.
He hated Eggman.
He really, truly did.
The monster did so many terrible things… killed so many friends and loved ones… destroyed and enslaved his home… laughed as he violated Sally on a level he knew all to well from his time as Mecha Sonic… and sought to destroy everything to reshape it in his image.
Made Sonic forget Sally… forget Mom and Dad… forget the life he had lived, the good times and the bad.
"I could do it. One squeeze and its all over. Nobody would care. Heck, they'd throw a parade when I got back."
It would be easy.
It would be simple.
And yet…
Sonic closed his eyes.
He remembered Eggman's body disintegrating as he held onto his arm.
He remembered all the forms of his friends and himself turning into nothing inside The End.
He remembered all the lives that were lost before they started this grand counterattack.
"…Put him away in the Chaos Force, Nicole." Sonic sighed and tossed the Core to her. "We will deal with him later."
Nicole stared at him for a second, an uncomprehending expression turning to one of sad understanding before she muttered, "…Right."
"Are you serious right now?" Jani-Ca asked while Nicole tossed the Core into a miniature portal that closed itself right away. "You could have ended it right there, you know!"
"We have more important things to deal with than Robuttnik." Sonic said before flying to the next branch.
But he knew Jani-Ca was right.
He could have ended it all.
"I'm just kicking the can down the road…"
Once it was all done, he would have to make a decision.
One that could impact the lives of so many people.
"Guess everyone is a god when they have someone's life in their hands."
Shaking his head, Sonic weaved through lasers and energy orbs before his feet touched the flesh of the limb. He glared up at the End whose obscene eye seemed to study him.
"If you just wanted to be alone…" Sonic growled before running forward. "You could have said something, instead of trying to kill everyone!"
The hedgehog could see tentacles rising up, wrapping around themselves, and forming into new shapes. Ones that Sonic could recognize.
Chaos in his many forms.
Black Doom from the false memories he got from the Genesis Wave.
Mecha Sonic, Metal Sonic, and all the badniks he faced throughout his life. Even King Gong, Coconuts, Scratch, and Grounder were there!
Fang and the Hooligans, Zan the Dragon, Crocbot… all the enemies he had ever faced were given shape and racing towards him.
But Sonic didn't care.
He simply turned up the juice and spread through them.
The blasts of air and energy surrounding him as he ran either blew them to the side or disintegrated them in an instant.
"Your job got too hard because people didn't want to lay down and die?! CRY ME A FREAKIN' RIVER!" Sonic shouted as he ran further up the limb. "People have the freedom to fight! To make choices, good or bad, and then live with them! Each one of those worlds was born from that freedom, and you think that's a bad thing?! You think that we're arrogant for not wanting to follow your script?! Well, guess what buddy! We will keep doing that…"
Sonic curled into a ball and spin dashed around the limb, destroying even more of the false enemies grown from the End's flesh.
"…Until our dying breath!"
The End didn't say anything for a second.
Then it spoke.
…YOU ARE QUITE RIGHT.
Before Sonic could question what the heck it was talking about, something slammed into the hedgehog's body, flinging him back and causing him to skid against the cauterized flesh.
"What th-?!" The hedgehog let out a gasp as a massive hand clamped against his head, lifting him up. He opened his eyes and saw something he hadn't seen in years.
The grinning, massive form of the original Robotnik.
NEW GOD… I SEE YOU. I HEAR YOUR JESTS AT MY FUNCTION.
I BEHOLD YOUR DETERMINATION TO STOP WHAT IS TO BE.
"Let… go…!" Sonic kicked, landing a blow to the massive belly. "…Tubby!"
Ghostly images of Sonic appeared around the false Robotnik, each of them raining down blows. But the missing chunks of flesh reformed as quickly as they disappeared, the purple and black eyes observing the hedgehog as the End spoke in his head.
YOU DARE TO LAUGH AND JOKE IN THE FACE OF YOUR END.
BECAUSE… IT IS NOT YOUR END YOU FEAR.
YOU BELIEVE YOU AND THESE OTHER TWO NEW GODS HAVE CRAFTED A MIRACLE TO SAVE ALL.
Sonic screamed as he felt something go into his ears. His vision was turning black around the edges, clouds forming within his thoughts.
"N-No! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"
The purple mass that looked like Robotnik grinned cruelly as its mouth mimed words that the End spoke in his head.
VERY WELL.
I WILL CAST ABOMINABLE FILTH UPON YOUR MIRACLE.
MAKE IT VILE.
AND TRANSFORM IT INTO A SPECTACLE.
"SONIC!" Nicole yelled, landing on the branch with Jani-Ca behind her. The holo-lynx fired on the fake Robotnik, which rippled and burned at her blasts but didn't budge. Its magenta eyes simply glowed as it pressed its hand harder around the hedgehog's head.
It was like a worm that was going through his brain… no, not a worm. A centipede. It was like it was crawling and nibbling through his memories. It was chittering and slithering through each precious picture in his head, violating him on a level he could not have conceived of before.
"D-Damn it…!" Sonic gripped the wrist harder, seeing steam rise out of it.
Then, the facsimile paused.
The arm was separated from its body, Jani-Ca having rushed forward and swung down with the Sword of light to cut it apart.
But the End didn't react with shock or anger.
Instead… its grin grew even wider.
AH, NOW I SEE.
THAT IS YOUR PLAN…
"JUST DIE ALREADY!" Jani-Ca screamed, slicing the false Robotnik's head from his body. The hedgehog landed on the cauterized ground, Nicole by his side as the false arm disintegrated into ash.
"Sonic! What did it do you?!" Nicole asked as Sonic shook his head, grimacing.
"It… it was crawling through my mind…!" His hand covered his face. His mind was a mess. His… his memories felt wrong, as if someone had splashed paint on them.
He… he could still remember Sally. He could still remember his friends and family. He remembered Mobotropolis…
"No, wait… that's not its name. Not really."
Did the End do something to his head?
"No! Focus! It was crawling through your head for a reason! It learned something…!"
His eyes widened in horror.
"It knows!"
That same horror appeared on the holo-lynx and echidna's faces as they stared at him.
They both knew what he meant.
The booming voice howled in laughter.
YES… I NOW FULLY UNDERSTAND.
SUCH UNBRIDELED ARROGANCE… SUCH INCOMPREHENSIBLE STUPIDITY!
YOU SOUGHT TO TAKE ALL THAT IS MINE!
THAT WAS WHAT GAVE YOU HOPE TO CONTINUE
WELL THEN…
Sonic's blood ran cold.
Something terrible was going to happen.
This… this was the same feeling he got when he saw everyone in Knothole trapped inside the Egg Grapes.
When he was running on the nuclear missiles heading to Mobotropolis, mentally begging Nate Morgan and the Overlanders to forgive him.
"Too late."
IT IS TIME TO TAKE AWAY THAT AWAY.
Suddenly, the screams of trillions filled the air. Sonic, Nicole, and Jani-Ca had to cover their ears as the terrible wails of friends, family, and strangers echoed within their heads.
So many of them were still in pain.
They were begging for someone, anyone, to save them.
They called for lovers and family.
None of them understood what was happening, only that they were suffering for some reason they could not comprehend.
A few did and were laughing madly.
Tears were forming in Nicole's eyes, and she was muttering apologies Sonic could not hear. Jani-Ca was shutting her eyes, trying to block out the noise while hacking at the limb underneath her.
Then…
CRUNCH!
…There was only silence.
"What…?" Sonic muttered, looking around them and seeing the limbs retract from the portals they had created.
Why?! Why was it retreating?!
What the hell was that sound?!
"No. No, you know the reason why." A dark part of Sonic's mind muttered. "It just finished its meal."
The hyper hedgehog looked at Nicole, who was now on her knees with her hands on the ground. Her face was completely blank, but the tears would not stop. It was like she had simply clocked out mentally, as if the pain was just too great and she had withdrawn.
Jani-Ca, meanwhile, was full of emotion.
Utter anguish and rage.
She was screaming, her pupils shaking while tears rolled down her cheeks. The vessels in her temple were throbbing while practically her entire body was shaking. Sparks of purple Chaos energy flared around her, slowly enveloping the obscene limb around them.
And yet the End still laughed.
"No…" He felt like he was going to throw up. His limbs felt heavy and his eyes stung. An emptiness filled him unlike anything else he had ever experienced. "Not… not again…"
He… he failed.
He was the Hero of Mobius… and he failed.
He failed and so many people died because of it!
Trillions wasn't even a drop in the bucket to the grand total of the people lost! So many… so many universes… so many versions of himself, his friends, and all the people he loved along with people he would never know just gone!
"I… I promised… I promised Nicole and Jani-Ca… I promised Rotor that… that…!"
"Damn it…" He whispered, a single tear rolling down his cheek. Then, he stood up… and let the Chaos burst out of him. "DAMN IT!"
The flesh underneath him pulsed as the purple Chaos Energy from Jani-Ca was brown away. It rippled before it began to be torn apart to reveal the hollow husk underneath.
Nicole and Julie-Su were snapped out of their states as they felt the energy crash into them like a wave. But they recovered without a problem. After all, they weren't the ones he had wanted to hurt.
Sonic looked at the trunk of the alien tree whose branches were receding and glared at it. "No more." He hissed. "No more death…!"
He could swear that eye was smirking at him.
BOLD OF YOU TO ASSUME YOU CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
Its form shifted once more, and in its place was the Quantum Dial of the Xorda.
The hedgehog's eyes widened.
What the hell was it planning?!
It began turning on its sides, and Sonic could feel it before it even began.
Gravity was shifting and nonexistent wind moved his quills in the direction of the dial.
He could even see it!
"A black hole? No… it's an antimatter drain!" Nicole looked at Jani-Ca. "We need to stop it!"
"What do you think I'm trying to do?!" The echidna's free hand was lifted and a barrage of purple energy blasts shot out. Each raced forward and made impact against the dial's surface, causing tiny explosions of light across the skin of the otherworldly being. "It's no good!"
"Why is it trying to pull this?!" Sonic thought, struggling to keep himself in place but being pulled inch by inch into the antimatter's direction. "It knows it can't just kill us like that! This is an empty place! We can just go to the…"
Then, it dawned on Sonic.
The End knew what they were planning, and had already killed the other universes before they could even save them.
All that was left was…
"It's distracting us!" The hedgehog shouted at his two companions. "It wants to go to the Chaos Force!"
As he said that, the cosmic being's form began to… shift. It wasn't changing its shape, not really. Rather, it became a mass of purple and red fire with smoke trailing it, shooting forward and away from the Antimatter Well it had given birth to.
Reality shifted in behind them, and the new gods cursed as they saw reality being shifted once more. They could see the nothingness transforming into a gateway to the Chaos Force.
Beyond the veil, they could see the Cores of all the people of his Zone sleeping, unaware of all that was occurring around them.
The Super Emeralds were spinning in a blur, within the ring the Neo-Walkers were still in their prayer as the Super Master Emerald was bathed in green fire. The Chaos Energy was practically singing, all the while the three deities were chanting their prayer. Sweat was matting their robes and brows as they continued their work.
They were so occupied that they didn't even notice the new intrusion into their realm.
"We need to close it!" Jani-Ca closed her eyes. "The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is pow-!"
The echidna let out a cry as she began to be pulled back, interrupting her spell. Nicole and Sonic didn't waste any time. The holo-lynx thrust her hand forward, a part of a street materialized in a shower of pixels which the hedgehog landed on, catching the echidna before she fell hard on it.
"It's not going to last!" Sonic could see pieces of the road already beginning to break apart and be sucked into the antimatter well, and he saw that Nicole was struggling to keep herself in place without being sucked in.
"We don't have time to close the thing!" Sonic leapt up, carrying Jani-Ca why the waist with his left arm before snaking his arm around Nicole's own waist. He grit his teeth before flying forward with all his might. "HANG ON!"
It was like every inch of his body was covered in chains, each of them pulling back.
It hurt with each passing second.
But Sonic was never the kind of person to just give up.
"They're counting on you. All of their futures rely on you. Come on, Hero of Mobius…"
It was slow, at first, gaining distance by small increments.
His brow furrowed as he felt the Chaos burst out from within his heart.
"Show this thing why you're the fastest thing alive!"
With a scream, Sonic and his two passengers rocketed past the End's obscured form and shot into the portal. They tumbled through, Sonic letting go of the echidna and lynx before flying towards the Neo-Walkers with his hand outstretched.
Merlin, Athair, and Aurora were already lifting their head, seeming to register finally that something had gone wrong.
"GUYS! GET OUT OF HERE! IT'S HERE!" Sonic screamed, but he was moving so fast that by the time the words reached their ears…
…it had happened.
Three beams of red energy raced past Sonic, striking each of the Neo-Walkers on the chest before going through them. Their eyes widened, pain making their faces curl and grimace while their mouths opened to scream, yet the voices would not escape their throats.
The spinning of the Super Emeralds ceased.
The fire of the Super Master Emerald dimmed.
"NO!" Sonic, Jani-Ca, and Nicole screamed all at once. Sonic was able to stop Merlin from falling. "No! Not like…!" Tears were welling up in his eyes as the sorcerer breathed shallow breaths. "C-Come on, old man! You've got to hang on for Tails!"
"I-It's not meant to be, my boy…" The old fox said weakly. The man who helped to defeat Mammoth Mogul and guide Tails to his destiny looked up at Sonic. "F-Forgive me… but I will not be able to fulfill my duty…"
"Screw your duty!" Sonic shouted back in anger. "You can't give up like this! You have to keep fighting! Yo-!"
Merlin shook his head, tears welling up in his eyes. "Sonic, please. Listen to me. Just… tell my nephew…"
Before he could finish, pieces of his body began to disintegrate into golden flakes. They sparkled with life for one second before disappearing into the air as if they were never there.
Sonic closed his eyes, tears welling up in the corners of them. "I… I will. He'll know. Count on it."
Merlin Prower smiled…
…before it too disappeared into nothingness.
Sonic wiped his tears with his arm and looked at Nicole, only to find that Athair had vanished as well and left the crying lynx alone. Then, he turned his head to Jani-Ca who was holding Aurora.
Despair was written on the face of the future daughter of his friends while she held the deity of her people in her arms, yet she let out a sob while crying out, "Damn it… You can't go out like this! What happened to all that talk about atoning for all the crap you and the Ancient Walkers did, huh?! You can't do that if you die here!"
Sonic and Nicole were by her side as Aurora let out a cough. Her body was disappearing, but at a slower rate compared to Merlin and Athair. Probably because of her seniority at her state of being compared to the other two.
"F-Forgive me… Jani-Ca… Lara-Su…" Aurora reached up and cupped the echidna's cheek. "I… I wanted to. I wanted to stop all this madness…" She let out a sob. "And now… I have to burden you children yet again with the consequences of my mistakes!"
"Then don't!" Jani-Ca gently put her to the ground and her hands glowed with purple energy. "You have to live, damn it! Y-You can't… you can't just…!"
"Oh, Jani-Ca… I wish I could…" A tear rolled down from the corner of Aurora's eye. "But… I am tired. And… and I just cannot…" She shook her head and looked up at the daughter of the echidna she had wronged in more than one reality. "Please… please promise me… that you will do what I could not… please save them, Jani-Ca. Please…"
Sonic… didn't know what to say.
This deity who he had multiple reasons to despise for what they did to their friend… wasn't some kind of arrogant entity. One who was stubborn about their decrees and how mortals should obey without question.
She was a being with remorse for the mistakes she had made and all the people she had unintentionally hurt.
A being with empathy and love who had wanted simply to protect her people and atone for the mistakes that her ancestors made, only for more tragedy to result from the consequences she couldn't predict.
One who wanted to perform one final good act… only to result in her dying here.
"It… it shouldn't have ended like this. Suddenly… without warning…"
Jani-Ca grimaced, closing her eyes while her hands clenched into fists.
"I… I will. We will do it, but in our own way."
A small smile graced Aurora's lips.
"I… I know you will, child. You will be far greater than I was…"
And, with that, the rest of Aurora blew away.
Becoming one with the Chaos Force once more.
"No…" Nicole looked up and her eyes widened. "With them gone…!"
She was looking up at the Cores that were in the false sky above them, each of them pulsing and shifting.
Sonic could sense it.
Some of them were waking up!
"If they see this…!" The hedgehog hissed.
HOW TOUCHING.
Sonic looked down and glared at the End as it floated within the Chaos Force.
DO YOU FEEL IT NOW?
THE GNAWING SENSATION THAT COMES WITH THE INEVITABLE?
THE ERASURE OF HOPE FOR A DIFFERENT OUTCOME?
I HOPE YOU DO.
AND WITH THE DEATH OF THOSE THREE COMES THE DEATH OF YOUR HOPE.
"You…!" Jani-Ca gripped the Sword of Light. "I'LL KILL YOU!"
She shot forward, her hands clenching the Sword of Light tightly as she brought it back in preparation of a swing while screaming in rage.
Sonic saw that The End's form was… changing.
It wasn't growing, for it had no real mass.
Rather, the dimensions were simply shifting. Space that wasn't occupied before suddenly was filled. Light turned into sound, turning and smoothing out in cubes of purple
"Jani-Ca, stop!" He cried out, but it was too late. She was already in front of the swirling mass that defied rationality.
KILL ME? HOW AMUSING.
YOU CANNOT KILL YOUR END.
AND YET…
Jani-Ca swung her sword…
And something uncurled from within it.
It could loosely be called an arm.
But it was wrong.
It had no wrist, rather an empty space that loosely connected the platinum-colored limb to the six-fingered hand.
A star-like purple growth extended from the area that would be called the being's elbow, and while the forearm was smoothed and seemingly armored the rest of it was covered in black swirls that weren't tattoos. They shifted as if they were ripples in water.
It uncurled its index finger…
… and stopped the blade in its tracks with a mere touch.
…YOU THREE HAVE TRIED, AND HAVE ASCENDED FROM YOUR MORTAL COILS TO DO SO.
YOU STOOD AGAINST ME, AND NOW STAND IN MY WAY AT THE END OF EVERYTHING.
VERY WELL.
IT IS ONLY APPROPRIATE.
Jani-Ca let out a scream as black marks appeared across the Sword of Light, pulsating for a second before they shattered.
An explosion of energy flung the future echidna back, but she was caught by Sonic and Nicole. All three of them stared at the pulsating thing that was the End while the arm clenched and unclenched.
BEHOLD, NEW GODS.
BEHOLD MY TERRIBLE BEAUTY.
THE TRUTH YOU SOUGHT SO DEPERATELY IN YOUR ARROGANCE.
THE FORM THAT I PERMITTED THE FIRST LIVING BEINGS OF CREATION TO SEE BEFORE THEY ALLOWED THEIR MINDS TO CREATE THE MASKS I WEAR.
BEHOLD AND DESPAIR.
The mass shifted again, and all Sonic could see was a shifting mass of dark squiggles. Something in his head was screaming at him not to look, as if this was something he was never meant to see. The End had a form which defied all rationality. It had no true dimension. It was like trying to visualize sound with only the eyes. Waves and sparks given shape without anything to hold it in place.
"But I can see. I can handle it."
Sonic closed his eyes and took in a deep breath.
He focused the Chaos Energy in his eyes.
Then… he opened them.
And he could see it.
The End looked like a humanoid, as tall as the Ancients he had seen in the Neo-Walkers' visions of the past. Eight wings unfurled around it, made not of feathers but of metal. Its upper body was armored, highlighted with dark purple markings and spikes on each shoulder pad which reached to its 'head'.
It had four arms, each of them like the limb which had shattered the Sword of Light. All of them with six fingers which flexed as if it were the first time they had been used in a while.
Its two legs were much like its arms, with the ankles seemingly not existing while star-like knee pads outlined in purple shined in the nonexistent light. Each foot bore three toes, which did not move with their new freedom.
Its head… was not truly a head. Rather it was a purple moon that emitted a magenta glow.
It was bleeding in random areas, but its blood was black. It was dripping past a crooked and jagged 'neck guard' flowing down an empty cavern before reaching a small star-shaped opening in its midsection. The black liquid swirled before going down a hole that Sonic could only guess was a miniature black hole.
But that was not the worst part.
Sonic's eyes could see the black liquid, peer into it and saw them.
The silent faces of Mobians, humans, and creatures he could not recognize. People he knew and never met in their death grimaces, dripping down the End's horrible throat before circling down the drain like waste.
The End's wings flapped once, and the comforting golden glow of the Chaos Force disappeared. The only colors being emitted came from it, the three new gods, and the half-conscious Cores that made a nonexistent sky.
The terrible cosmic being flicked its wrists, and three objects appeared.
With its top right hand it gripped a purple spear that twisted near its head before turning into two tips that gleamed in the light.
In its top left hand it lazily spun a bladed disk, a chakram, that had three additional curved blades along its surface.
Finally, in its bottom left hand, it gripped a drum a part of his mind said was a damaru drum.
Its bottom right hand traced its body before rising to the the mad god's 'face', as if it were studying it.

Notes: Not going to lie, writing Super Sonic/Hyper Sonic fights is tough as hell. Mostly because they are weightless and it's hard to put into words what I'm visualizing in my head.
