Despite being supposedly out of bounds, by order of the Shadow Proclamation, earth still got the occasional alien visitor who showed up unexpectedly for reasons other than invasion and the subjugation of the human race.
Most of these were victims of the Rift, one way or another, having either been plucked from their own planet and dumped on earth, or been aboard a spaceship that got pulled off course. A few, however, were adventurous tourists who wanted something exciting to brag about to their friends.
This latest arrival was distinctly unhappy; his trip of a lifetime was clearly not living up to his expectations.
"What a miserable place this is!" he complained. "The heat, the sun, it's unbearable!"
"I do apologise," Ianto said. "You've arrived at a most unfortunate time, a rare dry spell. Typically, we have grey skies and abundant rain; this sunshine is most unusual."
The alien nodded, apparently mollified. "Ah, I understand. I suppose even the most agreeable planets must suffer under bad weather at times."
Ianto nodded, his expression solemn. "Indeed. I'm sorry your trip has proved so disappointing."
"It's the risk one takes, travelling to such out of the way places. It can't be helped."
