Even though he had pretended to be slightly less panicked than Arthur, Merlin was freaking out when he could not find Gwen. This did not ease his mind in anyway shape or form, he knew that Gwen was incredibly sweet but even Merlin could not deny that he was scared of her saying something to the wrong person.

Just as he was about to give up and think up a plan, Merlin heard the sound of a vase crashing onto the floor. He turned around and his breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Gwen was hiding in a corner "Gwen?"

"You and Arthur?!" Gwen exclaimed.

Merin quickly shushed Gwen and he looked around to see if anyone was insight "I'll explain everything, just keep your voice down" he whispered before he grabbed her hand "Come on". They hurried to Gaius' chambers and then into Merlin's room, he then shut the door and sat down on his bed "Arthur and I have been seeing each other for a while and we have fallen in love. Neither of us meant for it to happen and we have had to be very careful because of everyone and how my life could be at risk if Other finds out" the warlock explained, and Gwen nodded as she sat next to him.

"Does he treat you well?" Gwen asked, surprising Merlin.

"Yeah, he treats me very well" Merlin nodded.

"Then that's all that matters" Gwen stated before she gave Merlin a soft smile "You both can trust me to keep your secret".

Merlin smiled and he hugged Gwen "Thank you".

Gwen hugged her friend back "Are there any more things that I don't know about?"

Merlin froze as he contemplated telling Gwen about his secrets "Well… actually there is something else" he pulled back from the hug and he sighed "Please don't freak out" he pleaded in a whispered before his eyes flashed gold and the broom began to sweep the floor.

Gwen stared at the broom in amazement, before she looked back at Merlin; her mouth agape and her eyes wide in shock "You're a…"

"I was born with it. it's my destiny to guide and protect Arthur so that he becomes the king that he is meant to be" Merlin stated nervously as he looked away from Gwen. He began to feel like had made the wrong choice and his heart broke.

However, something happened which restored all of Merlin's hope and faith in the world, Gwen looked at him and smiled brightly before hugging him.

"You're incredible" Gwen whispered.

Merlin had been close to tears after Gwen had spoken but he was overcome with relief, finally feeling safer and less guilty about hiding his secret from one of his best friends. Once everything had calmed down, Merlin and Gwen both went about completing their chores, getting on with their lives and feeling closer now that there were no secrets between them.

Merlin had been eating his dinner when Gaius walked into the room and he gave Merlin a slap around his head "Fool!"

"Ah! What have I done now?" Merlin asked as he rubbed the back of his head.

"You are sleeping with Arthur Pendragon!" Gaius shouted.

Merlin stood up "Keep your voice down. How did you find out?"

"I overheard you talking to Gwen" Gaius answered as he sat down opposite Merlin "Did you enchant him?"

"No, of course not. The first time we kissed he said that he loves me, and one thing led to another" Merlin explain, slightly worried about what Gaius might say.

"Wait... he said that he loves you? And you love him?" Gaius asked.

Merlin nodded "More than life. I have also told him about my magic, and he's promised to keep it a secret, I trust his word. Arthur would never betray me".

"Uther must never find out. Tell Arthur that your secret is safe with me" Gaius sighed, in relief that Merlin was not in any immediate danger.

Merlin let out the breath that he had been holding in "Thank you, Gaius".

"I now know where you have been sneaking off too this whole time" Gaius smiled as he chuckled "You are not as clumsy as people think that you are. You are quite sneaky, too much so sometimes".

"It's just part of my charm" Merlin joked with a joyous smile.
