Tom yawned as he got on the turbolift. He was sleeping and enjoyed the warmth of his wife when he was called to the bridge. He noticed didn't notice Harry on the lift. '
"You got called to the bridge, too," Harry mumbled.
"Yeah, I wonder what this could be about?" Tom said. Tom looked at his friend. It has been awhile since he saw his friend or spent any time with him. Between working and families, they didn't have time for each other. "When was the last time we spent anytime together not on the bridge or weekly poker game?" Tom asked.
Harry let out a breath. "A while, work, families."
Tom nodded, agreeing. "Do you think your wife will let you out to play?"
Harry smiled. "Do you think B'Elanna would?"
Tom shrugged his shoulders. "If I make it up to her later."
"Same," The turbolift doors opened and they were on the bridge. Tom saw the viewscreen. Tuvok was in the captain's chair. There was an astros belt that was in front of them and there was no place to go.
Tom saw right away why he was needed. Harry parted from him and went to his station. Tom went down to his station and had the crewmember move, so he could sit. He stirred the ship past the belt.
Once safety passed, Tom gave the controls back to the crewmember. He smiled at Tuvok. "I'm going back to bed."
Tuvok nodded. Tom got on the turbolift and went home. He checked on the children before heading back to his room and his wife. B'Elanna was sleeping on her side of the bed. Tom undressed before getting into bed next to his wife. B'Elanna leaned into him when he settled.
"Everything good?" B'Elanna mumbled.
"Yeah," Tom wrapped his arms around her.
"Tom," Harry called out to him. Tom stopped and waited until Harry caught up with him. "So, I was talking to the wife, and she would be glad to give up some time if we can spend some time just the two of us. Alone. I was wondering if you and B'Elanna could watch the children for us."
"I don't see that problem. I'll talk to her," Tom said. Harry smiled. "But you'll have to do the same for us."
Harry nodded. "I don't see that being a problem," The two men said goodbye and walked separate ways.
Tom entered his quarters later that night to find Gabby and Dexter chasing each other and James was trying to follow them on his little legs. Miral was sitting on the couch, rolling her eyes at her younger siblings. Tom didn't see B'Elanna anywhere.
"Where is your mother?" Tom asked the room in a loud enough voice that all the children were looking at him.
"She is your room changing. She has been in there for a while," Miral pointed to Tom and B'Elanna's room.
"Settle down," Tom said to Dexter and Gabby as James made his way over to Tom. Tom picked up the baby and headed for his room.
Tom found B'Elanna sitting on the couch, she looked up at him. "None of the children are dead."
"No, all alive and well," Tom set James down. James went straight for his mom.
B'Elanna picked James up and set him on the couch. "I just needed a moment from them and work," James crawled in her lap.
"Understand. I think I might have a way for us to spend some time away from our children," Tom told B'Elanna Harry's plan.
"I can go for that," B'Elanna said. "Plan something with Harry."
Tom had everything planned for tonight. B'Elanna had to finish up in Engineering before she could come home. While she was getting ready, Tom was taking the kids to Harry's for the night. Tom hoped that it would end well tonight. He wanted his wife to himself.
"Do we have everything?" Tom yelled at the kids, who were sitting in their rooms. He was holding James and Gabby was standing by his side with her bag. Tom also had James' bag.
"Do I have to go?" Miral came out with her bag. "Can I stay here?"
"If Miral can stay, can I?" Dexter came out of his room with his bag.
"No one is staying," Tom answered both questions with one answer.
"Why?" Miral asked.
Tom sighed. "Mom and Dad need a night without children to be better parents to you," The children moaned, but headed out the door.
Tom kissed the younger ones before handing them off to Harry and his wife. He almost ran home. He entered his quarters to the quiet and he enjoyed it for a moment. This is what it was like before they had children. Tom made his way to his bedroom to change. He entered and heard the shower going. B'Elanna was home. Tom thought about joining her, but he wanted to spend the evening with her outside their quarters and he had an evening planned for them. He changed and went to the living area to wait for B'Elanna.
Tom started picking up the living area as he waited for B'Elanna. Tom was picking up one of Dexter's toy cars when B'Elanna stepped out of their room. Tom stood and dropped the car on the floor.
B'Elanna stood in front of him in a dark green dress. That only had shoulders straps. After all these years, B'Elanna still took his breath away. Tom stepped towards her. "No one would think you had four children."
B'Elanna smiled and patted him on the chest. "No one would think you fathered those four children."
Tom laughed and held out his arm for her to take. "Tonight, we don't have four children. We are two lovers."
B'Elanna took his arm. "I like that," They left their quarters and headed for the holodeck.
The holodeck opened to a table set for two. Tom led the way to the table and held out the chair for B'Elanna. B'Elanna took the seat. They picked up the menu that was there and looked at what was there. Tom knew what he wanted, so he looked over the menu at the woman, who held his heart for so many years.
"You keep looking at me. I'm going to think you want me for dinner and not the food," B'Elanna said without looking up from the menu.
"Maybe it is true," Tom put down his menu. B'Elanna put down her menu and a waiter appeared before them. They ordered food and the waiter left them. Tom reached across and took B'Elanna hand. He was glad they didn't say anything as they waited for their first course.
When the first course showed up, they didn't talk about their children but about things lovers talked about. They talked through the courses. Before they knew it, they were having dessert. After the last bite, Tom stood and went around to help B'Elanna out of her chair. Once they were out of the chairs, everything changed, and they were in a theatre. When Tom realized that B'Elanna didn't like movies, he took her to a theatre, and she loved it. He took her to their seats and the play started.
They laughed and cried as they watched the play. Tom kept looking over at B'Elanna as they watched the play. He always loved watching her face as the emotions played on her face. The play ended and B'Elanna stood and gave a standing ovation.
Tom leaned over. "Now we can go back to our quiet quarters and have a little time alone," He whispered in her ear.
B'Elanna looked at him with a light in her eyes. Tom had missed that light. It was the light that she had when they were dating. Tom grabbed her hand and led them out of the holodeck. They made their way back to their quarters. Tom was leaving little touches everywhere, B'Elanna made little sounds, and it was music to Tom's ears.
Tom stopped at their quarters and put the code in. B'Elanna pulled him in. Tom smiled. "Computer lock the doors," Tom heard the doors lock.
Tom smiled and pulled B'Elanna close. B'Elanna wrapped her arms around his neck. She leaned up and Tom leaned down, their lips met in the middle. They made their way to their room for a little love making that they have been missing. The sounds were music to each other's ears. It was a dance they had done many times. They fell into each other's arms and fell asleep.
B'Elanna thought that this couldn't be possible. Tom had a vasectomy after James. She knew that there was still a small chance that it could happen. She didn't know what they were going to with five. Before she worried herself crazy, she should make sure that it was true. She left her room to find the rest of the quarters, quiet. Tom had taken the kids to school because she didn't have to be to Engineering until after the weekly briefing.
B'Elanna left the quarters and headed for sickbay. She could probably catch the doctor before they headed to the conference room. The doctor was there working on a sample or something. He looked up when he heard the doors opening. "B'Elanna, is there something I can help you with?"
"Yeah," B'Elanna explain her worries to the doctor.
He nodded. "You shouldn't, but we can check. The baby could not be Tom's," The doctor tried to joke. B'Elanna narrowed her eyes at him. "Okay, wrong joke," The doctor mumbled before picking up his tricorder. "Take a seat," He pointed to one bio beds.
B'Elanna took a seat, and the doctor ran his tricorder over her. He looked over his reading before looking at B'Elanna. "You are not pregnant," B'Elanna let out a sigh of relief. The doctor put his tricorder down. "B'Elanna, when was the last time you took anytime for yourself?"
B'Elanna had to think for a moment. "Probably not since I was pregnant with James."
The doctor nodded. "B'Elanna, I think you need some time to yourself. No Tom or kids," B'Elanna opened her mouth to say something, but the doctor held up a hand. "I know you have a lot on your plate, but you need time to yourself, or you are going to get burned out. I want you to take the day off tomorrow and do some thing you want to do."
"Doctor…" B'Elanna tried to protest. The doctor shook his head.
"No, as your doctor I'm ordering you to take some time."
B'Elanna sighed. She knew the doctor was right and she needed this. "Alright, I'll do it."
The doctor smiled. "We have to go, or we will be late for the weekly briefing," B'Elanna stood as the doctor put on his mobile emitter.
Tom saw B'Elanna and the doctor walk in together. He raised an eyebrow at B'Elanna, but she shook her head. B'Elanna knew that he was going to ask her about it after the meeting.
The meeting passed quickly, and everyone was leaving when Tom stopped her. "Is everything okay?" He asked.
B'Elanna nodded and waited for Tuvok to walk past before saying. "I had a scare, and the doctor wants me to take a day to myself tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll take the kids to school, and you can sleep in," Tom wanted to kiss her, but there were still others around.
B'Elanna patted him on the chest knowing that he was still worried about her. "Don't worry. I'll see you at home," Tom nodded and watched B'Elanna leave the conference room. She must know that he was always going to worry about her.
B'Elanna woke up to quiet, she didn't hear Tom get up and leave with the children. She took a moment to relax in bed before getting out. She took a long shower, and it felt amazing. She dressed and made her way to the mess hall for breakfast. There was barely anyone there when she entered.
"Good morning, B'Elanna," Neelix smiled. He handed her a tray of food. "A little late for you."
B'Elanna smiled. "I'm under orders to take the day for myself."
"Enjoy," Neelix said.
B'Elanna nodded and went to find a table to eat her breakfast and read a little. Something that had nothing to do with the ship or engineering.
After breakfast, B'Elanna went back to her quarters to do nothing. She could have picked up after the kids, but she had to follow the doctor's orders. She sat back on the couch and watched a movie on Tom's TV. Later she had some time on the holodeck, she was still debating on what program she wanted to do. She thought that she might take a nap later. It was nice having nothing on her plate. She needed more of these days even if she had to schedule a day every month or so.
B'Elanna was reaching for her PADD after she finished the movie. She still had an hour before going to the holodeck. "Commander Torres to the Astrometric Lab," B'Elanna moaned as she heard Seven's voice. She almost didn't want to go because she wanted to ignore everyone and finish her day. It must have been important if Seven had called her.
B'Elanna got up and headed out of her quarters and made her way to the lab. When she got to the lab, she saw Seven and the captain there. The captain tried to smile. "I'm sorry to interrupt your day, but we came across a cluster of planets," B'Elanna looked up at the screen, it was a little out of the way for them. "There are a couple of M-class planets that might look good for us," The captain finished.
B'Elanna nodded. She knew what that meant. Another away mission away from her family. "Okay," She turned to Seven. "Get Lt. Wildman and Neelix here, so we can make a plan of action." Seven nodded. B'Elanna turned back to the captain. "I'll come to you and tell you about what the plan is later," The captain nodded before leaving.
B'Elanna went home after her meeting with her away team. She missed her time on the holodeck. She was leaving tomorrow morning before anyone was going to be up. She let the captain know what was going on and where they should meet when this is all over. B'Elanna hoped that they might find a planet that might work for them.
"Mom," B'Elanna looked up and saw Miral come in with her siblings. Tom was holding James but let him down as they entered their quarters. James ran to her. The kids wanted to tell her all about their day.
"Homework," Tom said. The kids with homework moaned but went to sit at the table. Tom and B'Elanna watched the kids for a moment. "How was your day alone?" Tom leaned down and kissed her.
"It was nice until I got called to astrometrics," Tom lifted one eyebrow. James hit B'Elanna to be put down. B'Elanna put him down. B'Elanna told Tom what was going on. Tom frowned; he didn't like it.
"How long will you be gone?" Tom asked.
"Two to three weeks," B'Elanna glanced over to the children.
Tom nodded. He didn't like it, but it was her job. It was going to be hard in him with the children. "I'm sorry you didn't get your day," B'Elanna shrugged her shoulders. "I'll go and get dinner," Tom turned and headed out of their quarters.
B'Elanna heard her alarm going off. She moaned. She untangled her legs from Tom's legs. He let out a moan as she got out of bed. B'Elanna made her way to the shower without waking Tom. She came out of the shower, and she saw two blue eyes staring at her.
"You're leaving," Tom garbled.
B'Elanna nodded and made her way over to him. She leaned down and kissed him. "I love you and take care of our babies."
"Be careful," Tom said.
"I always do," B'Elanna tried to smile.
"I'm serious. I don't have a good feeling about this trip," Tom gripped her hand.
"I will make it home to you and our children," B'Elanna kissed him one more time before leaving their room. She looked in on the children one more time before leaving.
