NOTES: I was thinking about this story so I decided to write it. Please read 'If Things Have Been Different' first, if you haven't been following the story line.
Mike was waiting on the navy docks as he watches HMAS Hammersley slowly come in to port. He misses Kate, it been long three months since he last seen her. A lot has happen not only him and his family but the crew as well.
He turn his head when he saw Sally and Mac walking along the dock with their kids while talking. Mike watches Samuel who is four years old walking next to Rose who turn four in three months. Tom who is twelve and Michael who seven, they are at school with Chloe Blake who six years old.
Sally was pushing twin stroller which got two year old James and four month old Gregg in it. Mac she was pushing quad stroller herself. When Dutchy return from Afghanistan he was assign to Hammersley. He was able to spend three months with Mac when she received her transferred orders for her to do a tour overseas.
When she return, she return back to Cains thanks to him and she was XO on Childers for three months then ended up having a shore posting cause she became pregnant with there fourth child a boy named Dean which was Mike grand fathers middle name.
Then nine months later Mac found out that she was pregnant. She gave birth to twins John and Terry who are twin boys four months ago, same day Sally gave birth. They were lucky that Hammersley was in port for two weeks. Mike smile at them then turn to Hammersley.
ET, spider, Nav and Buffer have move to different posting. ET and Spider transferred to Perth. ET on HMAS Perth and Spider on HMAS Arunta. Buffer and Nav transferred to Sydney.
Just before buffer transferred he was promoted to chief petty officer and is assign to HMAS Parramatta. Nav she was transferred to the same ship Mac was on when she did her tour overseas. When she return she was posted on HMAS Ballarat for five months then transferred to Watson bay as a instructor cause of her pregnancy.
Nav gave birth to a boy which they named him Phillip which was Nav grand father and buffer father middle name. After Nav maternity leave she working at Sydney navy base cause of the kids.
Nick he now almost fourteen years old. He looks like buffer in a lot of ways except for the hair. Vicky she starts school next weeks. It hard to believe that she almost five years old. He and Kate are going down for her birthday this weekend and doesn't know if any of the crew are going or not.
Nav and buffer son is now two years old. Nav told Kate who told him that Philip was a surprise since they weren't planning on having any more kids after Vicky was born. But fate has other ideas. Cause Phillip was big and breach, Nav had to have a C section done since Phillip weight over ten pounds.
With Nav, Buffer, ET, spider and three others gone, Hammersley received new members. Four from frigates who hasn't been on a patrol boat before. There Dutchy which the crew knows him.
Two dads, he ET replacement and seamen Jessica bird. She finish her training before being assign on Hammersley and she decided to become a chief and medic. So she study and train while out on patrol and year ago bird went to do her medical training. When she finish her training she return back to Hammersley taking over bomber jobs since bomber was promoted and transferred to one of the frigates in cairns
Three months ago bird was promoted to able seamen and is dating Ryan. They been keeping in contact for months and try to get together when they have shore leave at the same time.
Mike son Ryan finish his officer training and now serving on HMAS Bendigo. He been on there for almost two years and loving it. and Patrick is at the navy officer academy doing his training since he also want to follow in family footsteps.
Stewart, he got married almost two years ago to a nurse who in the navy. Kate knew the nurse from when she was assign on the HMAS Anzac and was posted to Barry general hospital three years ago. So she and Mike set Stewart and Penny up on a date.
Mike invited Stewart to a restaurant while Kate invited Penny. Both her and Mike set up there friends. The night Mike and Kate suppose to met there friends at the restaurant. Mike and Kate call to cancel since they saw them in the restaurant at a table talking while waiting for Mike and Kate. Year later they got married.
Mike was best man and Kate was the matron of honor at their wedding. Mike was please that Stewart finally found happiness after his marriage to Maxine.
Mike and Kate four kids are at high school since they turn fourteen. He remember year ago where he and Kate send them down to his parents place for a week. When they return they were shocked but happy when they saw there new bedroom furniture. Before they had a single bed, now it a double, with new draws, desk, everything they needed which made them happy.
As for his wife, Kate two months after Connor past away Kate was promoted to lieutenant commander. Formal Captain Bull transferred to Darwin since he was promoted and now got shore posting.
After Kate became captain of Hammersley, she was going through five XO in few months till Mike and Amy who still the CO in Cairns look for someone suitable. When they found the perfect XO they transferred lieutenant Tim Jones, his nickname is spike.
Not because of his last name but his spike hair. He married with two kids and haven't been on patrol boat before but he is a learner just like Kate is and he get on well with the crew plus the crew found out that spike is related to formal member chefo, they are cousins, Most of the crew lost contact with Chefo.
Mike and crew found out that chefo and his wife divorce after five years of marriage. They had two kids. None of the crew knew about it especially the ones who keep in contact with him. Plus he also promoted to leader and now serving on a patrol boat up in Darwin.
Last year crew of Hammersley made navy history once again. Kate, swain and captain Jim Roff of the SAS risk their own lives in disabling a dirty bomb after Madeline Cruse send not only the navy but the SAS and Hammersley on her wild goose chases. If it wasn't for Dutchy suspicious mind and check out Madeline text messages.
Things would have been a lot worse not only for the Hammersley crew but for Australia it self. From Kate report, they only had twenty seconds left after she, Swain and Jim Roff was able to remove the cases they got the cerium rods in it from the main bomb and toss it over board just before the engines cut out.
Kate order Jim and Swain to jump and drive in to the sea. Which they did do and swam away just as the boat exploded in front of the Hammersley and it crew.
The three pop up meters away from the exploding boat inflating there life jackets. While that was happening Dutchy went to confront Madeline when she pulled out a gun on him and shot him in the chest.
Two crew members manage to tackle her to the ground while a third went to get bird. Dutchy was lucky, the bullet enter his lung and was on medical leave for two months. Swain, Kate and Jim Roff received the second highest metal the cross of valor for risking their lives in disabling the dirty bomb.
"Grand dad" Mike heard, so he turn and smile when he watch Rose run towards him. He still couldn't believe that he a grandfather at the age of forty nine.
"Rose" Mike bend down and pick her up for a hug and kiss
"Been a good girl"
"Yes" then she turn to look out to Hammersley then point to it
"Grandma boat" Mike smile
"Yes, looking ford to seeing grandma and daddy"
"Yes, I miss daddy"
"I know you do" then she turn to Mike
"do you miss grandma"
"Yes I miss her a lot"
"Me to" Mike smile At rose
"mike" He turn to Mac and sally
"Sally, Mac looking ford to spending two weeks with your husbands" Mike said grinning as he put Rose on the ground
"no more that you spending it with Kate" Mac said grinning

They turn to watch as Hammersley docks and ropes and gangway is in place. They all wave to the crew as they went to do there jobs.
Twenty minutes later Swain and Dutchy walk onto the wharf when Rose and Samuel yelled out "Daddy" as they run into their father's open arms.
they manage to pick their kids and sea bags up as they talk to there kids as the walk to where Mike, Mac and Sally are. Mike watch them as they give there wives a kiss then shake Mike Hand
"Sir" Dutchy said
"Dutchy, Swain looking ford to your shore leave"
"Yes sir" Swain said smiling.
"How was your patrol?"
"Busy sir" Dutchy said
"Kate said about the may day calls and the FFV you attended to plus the flooding from up north and the islands" Mike said
"there was a lot of damages cause by the storms. We help out much as we could sir" Dutchy said.
"I'm sure they appreciated it"
"Yes they have sir"
then they turn when they saw other crew members walk off and over to them saying there hi's as they walk pass as they talk about what they going to do on there shore leave.
Mike watch them all walk away then he turn and smile when Kate walk off Hammersley carrying her sea bag and briefcase just as navy car showed up for her.
"Hey miss you" Kate said giving Mike a kiss
"Miss you to"
"Looking ford to two weeks holiday"
"Yes, what about you"
"Yes and no"
"Meaning"
"Reunion"
"Oh that. You will be fine"
"i hope so mike"
they walk over to the car where Kate pass the driver her sea bag and briefcase before she and mike got into the car.
"I spoke to Nav last night she looking ford to seeing us this weekend" Kate smile
"I bet she is Mike, do you know who going to be at the party?"
"Hammersley crew, if they can make it. Nav family and all of Vicky friends" Kate smile
"sounds like it going to be a busy day for the birthday girl" Kate said just as the driver got in and started the engine then drove towards NAVCOM
"Yes it is. We can help them if you like"
"I wouldn't mind, good way for Nav and me to catch up"
"Nav would like that"
"what about you and buffer"
"It would be good as well"
"Kids looking ford to spend time with mum and dad"
"Yes they are" Mike said smiling
"Two weeks, just you and me alone" Kate said
"Just the two of us"
"You and i" Kate said smiling at Mike
"Mike what is it, I know that look"
"Amy show me the promotion list" Mike said looking at Kate
"Promotion list, what about it?"
"Maxine promoted back to commander"
"Oh, is she still in Perth?"
"Canberra"
"Ok dose Ryan and Patrick know?"
"I e-mail them"
"Ok. Look don't worry about it"
"Kate"
"Mike, think about the two weeks" she said with a smirk which made Mike smile.
They talk till the car stop next to Mike car. They got out and the driver pass Kate her sea bag and brief case then he saluted mike and Kate which they did in return before he got back into the car and drove away. Mike unlock and open the boot of his car so Kate could put her sea bag in it before she and Mike walk up to the ball pen.
That night Mike, Kate and there kids walk up the steps to where the crew and their families are. Kids went to give them a hug while Mike and Kate walk in side to order dinner and drinks for them and there kids. They all enjoy there evening laughing and joking like they always do after having a few drinks. The ones with kids left for home leaving the crew enjoy them selves.
