Chapter 1: the Duke Saves the Prince
Time for the Joe's or at least Duke to meet Lelouch. Also, anyone else notice that Lelouch and Cobra Commander have a lot of similarities.
While the Joe's are currently hiding out in an old abandoned warehouse, they are using the old computer Mainframe set up to watch the news.
"Here's video footage of yesterday's terrorist bombing is Osaka. The secretary reported 59 casualties, 8 of which were Britiannian."
"Of course, they emphasize who was Britiannian in the casualties." Said Roadblock.
"Is it wrong to root for the terrorist." Said Slaughter.
"Considering we are an anti-terrorism unit, yes." Lifeline points out.
"They also have no problems attacking civilians, that should never be acceptable." Said Lady Jaye.
Tired of hearing in the week since they've arrived in this universe and staying hidden Duke gets up. "I'm going for a walk I want to see how the Britannians and Japanese lives are now that we are trapped here."
"Okay but you probably shouldn't bring any weapons, I doubt they have the 2nd amendment." Said Mainframe.
Duke nods and leaves and of his weapons and grabs a grey hoodie Snake-Eyes found so that he can cover up his outfit and not be mistaken as a soldier or enemy but he luckily still has a jetpack that can be disguised as a regular backpack.
In a different part of the settlement an elderly man and a Britannian nobleman are playing a game of chess.
The smug looking nobleman still has a lot of pieces left on his side of the board over his opponent. "From now on you will have 20 seconds each turn."
Just then to the old man's relief help came in two teenagers wearing school uniforms.
"School boys? Is this a joke?"
A black-haired boy with purple eyes carries a confident smirk. "Well look at this a nobleman."
"I envy the youth of today. All the time in the world, so young man what is your name?"
"Lelouch Lampourge."
Lelouch sits down to compete against the nobleman and is told the rules of 20 seconds per turn and is told by his friend Rivalz that they have at least twenty minutes before they have to get back to their classes.
"Then be sure to drive safely. I don't this will take more than ten." Said Lelouch. "Now about yesterday." Looking at the old man.
"We'll discuss it later."
Lelouch picks up the black king chess piece surprising the nobleman.
"You're starting with the king." Said the nobleman expecting this to be over very quickly.
Ashford Academy…
During lunch time at an elite school whose principle is a former nobleman himself. His granddaughter Milly Ashford is currently having lunch with three friends of hers Shirley Fenette and Nina Einstein.
"So where are Lelouch and Rivalz?" asked Mily.
"Probably off gambling again." Said Shirley with a mix tone of worried and annoyed at her friend's antics. "Why can't they take their duties as members of the student council seriously?"
"Oh, how I wish my darling Lulu would be a serious man, how adorable is that." Teased Milly.
Shriley starts blushing. "It's not like that." She tries badly to deny but her two friends know otherwise.
Meanwhile on the highway…
A truck is currently being chased by Britainnian military and police.
The driver of the truck and his passenger a spikey red-haired girl are both wearing white outfits.
"Perfect! After we successfully steal this damn thing Tamaki messes up and now, we have the military on our tales."
Near the highway Duke has been walking aimlessly through the street of the settlement of Japan. He sees how the people of Britannia live their lives no different than anyone else he could see walking by the streets, he also sees honorary Britainians from what he learned allows Japanese and other peoples conquered to regain their rights, although to Duke they never should have lost their rights to begin with.
Despite their titles of honorary Britannians he can hear what many say behind their backs such as how they are afraid of the Japanese and some even wishing they were completed killed off. This sickens Duke.
Its about to get worse because of a news announcement.
"We apologize for your delay. Now his royal highness Clovis, third prince of Britannia will address the nation."
When Clovis' face appeared on the giant monitor Duke glares at the man, from what they've learnt since being stuck here that he isn't much of a politician and Duke wouldn't be surprised if he is actually at a party.
"To all my loyal subjects. Including the many co-operative elevens who serve the empire of Britannia."
The red-haired girl watching says that: "We're not elevens we're Japanese."
"Do you not feel my sorrow? Do you not see my pain? My heart was ripped from my chest only to be torn apart. The remnants are filled with rage and sadness. As ruler of Area 11 I will not tolerate terrorism of any kind. The battle we fight is a righteous one, a virtuous battle to protect our way of life. Now then everyone, I would like you to join me in observants in the eight who dies in the line of duty."
The Joes watching from the old warehouse hear Clovis' speech are not impressed.
"I'm afraid I don't have any tears to shed at Britaniann pigs." Said Sgt Slaughter.
"Any else thinking that this prince is just as dramatic as Cobra Commander?" asked Lady Jaye.
"No, I see it as well." Said Mainframe.
"EIGHT PEOPLE! WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER FIFTY-ONE?!" said Lifeline with some unusual anger in his voice.
"Because they aren't Britannian, to him the other 51 who died weren't even people." Explained Roadblock with some clear anger and disgust in his tone of voice.
Back to the two teens watching the prince's broadcast they notice some Britannian's taking a moment of silence for the eight dead.
Rivalz who has parked his motorcycle asks: Aren't you gonna join in?"
Lelouch responds with: "Aren't you?"
Rivalz chuckles at his friend's response: "It's sort of embarrassing."
"And I agree with you. Besides, spilling tears over those people won't bring them back to life."
"Dang that's dark buddy." Said Rivalz
"It's about self-satisfaction." Lelouch looks at Clovis' face on the screen. "Doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't change the world."
The location of Clovis broadcast…
The very dramatic prince gets up from his throne after the cameras are turned off to reveal he actually is at a party which one of the women there compliment his broadcast saying no one would suspect he is throwing a party.
"Afterall the viceroy is the key actor of Area 11, I need to change costumes quickly." Clovis responses as some servants get his robe like cape off of him.
"You're so self-confident." Said a woman at the party.
"It's all in the performance. The media want a charismatic prince so I give them one."
While some of the part goers are complimenting the prince and promising to support his reign one reporter named Diehart Ried looking at the party from a distance says this: "His reign is a shame."
General Bartley runs into the party interrupting the guest which annoys Clovis.
"I'm sorry my prince but…" he whispers what happened to Clovis who is not happy. "The police were informed it was medical equipment but if we get the army…"
Clovis interrupts and orders: "Get the military and deploy the Knightmares."
The streets…
Rivalz is driving his motorcycle with Lelouch on the side car back to school.
"That opening move you made why start with the king?" asked Rivalz.
"If a king doesn't lead, how can he expect his subordinates to follow." Is Lelouch's response.
"You fantasizing about running a corporation?"
"No way, ambitions like that will ruin your health."
Just then a honk from the same large truck from earlier speeds behind them but luckily Rivalz steers out of the way causing the truck to crash into a construction zone.
Conveniently or maybe, it was fate Duke is also there and saw the crash and was thankful that it didn't kill anyone. Seeing the crash, he can guess it was stolen by Japanese freedom fighters. He hears what some people are saying about it.
"Whoa, nasty crash!"
"What happened? Some sort of accident?"
"Probably a drunk driver."
"It's always some moron."
"Someone should probably help."
'Then maybe instead of talking you should help.' Thought Duke who is about to go check out what happened when he sees a black-haired teenage boy running towards the truck, from his outfit Duke would guess he is a student and remembers seeing a school called Ashford Academy so he might be a student.
Duke runs up and jumps down into the truck and goes to the teen.
"Are you okay?" he asked getting Lelouch's attention.
"I am, why are you here?" asked Lelouch.
"I couldn't stand by if no one else was going to help I will." Is Duke's response.
Lelouch is surprised by this man's words they don't sound deceitful or like he has any ulterior motive, it just seems that he wants to help just because it would be the right thing to do, which is a very foreign concept to him.
Nonetheless they get into the truck to investigate and when they start to climb in Lelouch hears a voice calling to him. Just then Nagata the driver manages to get the truck starting and Lelouch is about to fall but Duke catches him and takes the fall damage for him.
"Hey wai…" the teen had his mouth covered by Duke who pulled them both to the back to hide.
"Keep quiet it looks like this truck was high jacked by freedom fighters." Said Duke in a whisper.
Lelouch is not happy that he is in a truck controlled by terrorist, although one that he takes interest in is the man calling them freedom fighters, not terrorist.
That is when they hear the words: "Stop the vehicle!" and realize that it must be either the police or the military.
"Surrender now and you'll get a chance to defend yourself in court." Said the soldier/cop.
Because the driver chose not to the helicopters and Knightmares started firing at them.
'Great, I'm unarmed and have a civilian with me and we're being attacked by most likely Britannian Knightmares.' Thought Duke.
The driver grunts frustrated at their predicament. "What do we do now?! That's the military."
His passenger takes off her disguise to reveal a mostly red outfit and messy red hair. "Have you forgotten, that's why I'm here."
When the girl who they learn from the driver calling out her name is named Kallen she climbs up to a hidden item in the truck.
'Kallen doesn't sound like a Japanese name, maybe she just hates Britannia, or she is bi-racial.' Thought Duke.
Lelouch is just thinking: 'I've seen her before.'
The item Kallen had to get was a Knightmare known as a Glasglow which is an older model but hopefully Kallen can use it to fight against the Britannian military.
The helicopters aim their guns at the truck only for a slash harken cable to strike one of the helicopters down.
The back of the truck opens revealing the Glasgow Knightmare frame which jumps out off the truck and slides around the street.
"You fellas know full well what this badass mother can do!" Kallen exclaimed manuvering the Knightmare around gun fire and shooting another slash harken destroying another helicopter.
A more advanced aircraft holding a Sutherland Knighmare flew forward. "The rest of you back off I'll catch this guy. I can only assume you dug that obsolete relic out of some scrap heap, a Glasgow is no match for a Sutherland." Said Jermiah Gottwalt the pilot of the Sutherland who uses his own slash Harken's against Kallen's easily sending Kallen's back. "Not to mention a filthy eleven who insults the compassion of our glorious empire." Begins shooting at the Glasgow doing massive damage to the older frame.
Duke and Lelouch hear the driver's voice saying they should spilt up so they both don't get captured. Just then another Sutherland slided up Infront of the truck and started firing at the truck so it drives to the left.
"Do you have any idea where they are driving?" asked Duke since he doesn't know his way around fully yet."
"Judging by the lack of light we're probably in the old subway tunnels that will lead directly into the nearest ghetto." Answered Lelouch.
"The nearest ghetto is…!" Duke remembers that it is Shinjuku and that he sent some of his men there, meaning he knows what to do. Going for his comm he calls the Joe's at Shinjuku. "Snake-Eyes, Tunnel Rat, Quick Kick, Jinx I'm in a truck hijacked by Japanese freedom fighters, I have a civilian with me who is a student at the local school and we are currently heading for Shinjuku."
"What, that is terrible the Britainiann military will massacre everyone there." Said Jinx.
"Your right so it's up to you four to evacuate and protect the civilians, I'll see what I can do on my end." Said Duke turning off the comms.
Despite trying to whisper Lelouch could hear the man calling his comms and is now even more confused on who this mystery man is. His physique and comms would suggest military but if he was with the military he wouldn't order his subordinates to evacuate the ghetto, and he is also surprised a Brititanian man like him seems to be concerned with the lives of elevens.
Shinjuku Ghetto…
To prepare for to avoid a massacre waiting to happen the Joe's manage to convince the residents that the that the Britiannian military is coming so they help evacuate and or hide any civilians they can.
Kick Quick embraces his inner Paul Revere by saying: The Britainnians are coming! the Britannians are coming!"
Jinx helps a little girl get to her mother and is about to help other civilians with evacuation when the little girl asks: "Are we all gonna die?"
Jinx, who is currently not wearing her mask, looks at the little girls face to give a comforting simile: "Not today."
After with only at best 10 to 20 minutes they managed to evacuate as much of the ghetto they start to see planes that are obviously military flying over the ghetto.
"The terrorist are hiding in the subway system. Your mission is to locate the weapon that they've stolen. Investigate the old subway system that runs through the eleven-residential district in the Shinjuku Ghetto. Report in the moment you spot them; recovery of the target will be handled by us, the Royal Guard. You people bare the title of Honorary Britainnians but you were born elevens, therefore the stench of these rats should feel familiar to you. If you want to bear the rights to carry arms you have to get results. This is your opportunity to show your loyalty to Britannia." Said the commander.
"Yes, sir!" responded the Honorary Britainiann soldiers who are now on the ground patrolling the area. Driving while injured Nagita, the driver of the truck is heavily injured and unfortunately has a stuck tire.
One of the Honorary Britannian soldiers spots the truck using an advanced scope that the military has, seeing Duke and Lelouch but not getting a good look at their faces so he believes they are terrorist.
The soldier runs towards the duo ready to deliver a flying spin kick but Duke blocks him and grabs him by the foot pinning him down.
"Why are you doing this, this is mindless murder." Exclaimed the soldier.
"Mindless murder, we're not terrorist." Said Lelouch.
The pinned down soldier gets a look at Lelouch's face and realizes who it is. "Lelouch." Realizing they know each other and that the boys name is Lelouch Duke lets go of the soldier revelling a Japanese teen with wavy brown hair.
"Lelouch its me Suzaku." Seeing his child hood friend again causes a flash of memories from when they first met until the last time Lelouch saw him shortly after Japan was conquered by Britannia.
"You became a Britannian soldier?" asked Lelouch surprised that this is how he reunites with his friend.
Duke looks at the boy named Suzaku thinking. 'He looks like a teenager way too young to join the military.' That is when Duke decides to ask: "How old are you?" getting their attention.
Suzaku looks at Duke. "Um Lelouch whose he?"
"I honestly never got his name, he just learnt mine." Explained Lelouch. "But if you must ask, we're both 17."
"That is way too young to be in the military, you two should be in school." Exclaimed Duke not happy about seeing a teenage soldier or freedom fighter.
Before they could discuss the morals of child soldiers and how messed up that is there was a bright light from the spherical device that was in the truck as it splits apart causing several lights of various colours to appear.
What appears surprises everyone: a green haired woman held in straight jacket and other restraint all over her body.
"That's not poison gas. What is it?" asked Suzaku who was told from his superiors that the terrorist have poison gas.
"Looks like you were lied to." Said Duke, who bets poison gas was a cover for human experimentation.
Lelouch and Duke are both getting the girl out her restraints. Lelouch decides to ask hoping for an honest answer out of his friend. "Tell me the truth Suzaku, poison gas, this girl."
Helping them out Suzaku responds: "Hey its what they told us in the briefing I swear."
Suddenly a light flash and the Royal Guard appear before them. The captain looks at them disgusted. "Stinking monkey! Being an honorary Brtitannian will not excuse you!"
Needless to say, Duke looks at the racist man with disgust. "He told us this was poisonous gas stolen by terrorist, but the only poison I see is a racist scum bag threatening his own soldier and civilians to cover his idiot princes mistake."
Hearing this boast from Duke causes Lelouch to immediately respect the man.
"You dare insult his royal highness, private Kurugi if you are truly loyal to Britannia you will shoot those men." The captain ordered.
"Oh so you're a coward needing to hide behind a teenager that's a part of the very race you like to claim to be better than." Proclaimed Duke which is getting under the captain's skin.
"Please these men aren't terrorist, they're just civilians that are in the wrong place at the wrong time." Said Suzaku.
"You insubordinate little… that's an order! Didn't you swear your loyalty and life to Britannia?" asked the captain.
"Yes but… but I can't I won't follow your orders." Lelouch and Duke both realize what is going to happen although Duke agrees with Suzaku knowing that in the same situation, he would do the same.
"Very well." Said the captain who shoots Suzaku causing Lelouch and Duke to look on in horror and hatred. "Now I'm afraid this is where the two of you must die."
Realizing there is no choice Duke takes off the hoodie revealing his outfit, many notice how it is clearly military but none of them have any idea what country it belongs to or the flag pin he has.
"Your name is Lelouch right." Duke asks.
"It is." Lelouch confirms.
"Take that girl and leave, use that hoodie to hide yourselves and get out of here." Duke orders. "I'll stay here and hold the line."
"No wait if you do, you'll die." Said Lelouch concerned that even if this man is a soldier he can't take on the Royal Guard by themselves.
Duke just smirks at the boy's concern. "Then I'll have died fulfilling my duty as a soldier, defending civilians and their freedom."
Lelouch grabs the girl and the two of them run upstairs.
"Brave of you to sacrifice yourself for the boy, foolish but brave." Said the captain. "Now any last words."
"Before we get started, does anyone but to leave." Said Duke decided to see if any of them are smart enough to realize how badly outmatched they are.
The confident captain looks at Duke as if he is crazy. "You fool! We are prince Clovis' Royal Guard and you are just one man."
"Your right, how about you can in reinforcements, maybe a Knightmare or two, then you might stand a chance."
"Kill him." The Royal Guard begin firing at Duke who grabs his jetpack to block the bullets which are as strong as his laser rifles so it isn't doing much damage.
Duke charges in tackling a Royal Guard member and steals his gun shooting him. One tried to get in close hoping for a good shot but Duke grabbed his wrist causing the Royal Guadsman to shot one of his comrades, Duke then twists the man's wrist so badly his gun is aimed at his head, which Duke uses his finger to pull the trigger shooting the man in the eye. Three more are about to open fire at Duke when he manages to grab one of the others by the caller and use him as a human shield protecting him from bullets and when they eventually stop shooting, he grabs the stolen pistol and shoots them in the heads with a bullet each.
The last two besides the captain have their guns pointed at Duke shaking in fear from him who uses their hesitation to shoot the remaining members of the royal guard.
"You made quick work of my men, almost as if you have fought worse then Britainnia's soldiers, so I think before I kill you, I want to know about you." Said the captain who has a gun pointed at Duke. "Your features would suggest Brittannian in origin and yet your skills would suggest military or a mercenary, but you definitely aren't a part of the Brtiannian military, so who are?"
"I am First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser. And I am not Britainnian, I am a member of G.I. Joe a military unit for the United States of America. And this moment forward, I am an enemy of Britannia." Proclaimed Duke pointing his gun at the captain's face.
"Is this really about the people here? Or Area 11, the people here are only e…" before the captain could finish Duke shoots him in the shoulder.
"They are not numbers they are people with lives and rights whose freedom Britannia had no right to take away." Said Duke
"Please it is only how the world works, you easily showed that when you killed my men, your stronger than them so you killed them." Said the Captain now on the floor holding his bleeding shoulder.
"Your wrong! I did it to protect Lelouch and that girl. But a coward like you wouldn't understand, which is why I'm going to save myself a bullet." Said Duke walking to the truck while the captain is begging Duke to finish him off.
Nagita saw everything and is amazed by seeing Duke in action but is also shocked hearing that despite appearance he is not Brtiannian, but due to wounds he has he isn't long for this world.
Duke opens the door to the truck to see Nagita bleeding out. "Hey, wait I'll get some help."
"Don't bother, I'm not long for this world." Said Nagita looking at a photo his family. "I'll be joining my family soon."
Duke understands what he means and only looks angry at Britannia and wishes to dam them all to hell.
"*cough* Is it true *cough* that you're not Britannian?" asked Nagita.
Duke shakes his head. "No, I can't think of a greater insult than, well maybe being a snake."
"Can you give me that photo, I want something to get a good look at it." To which Duke does.
"What's your name, despite what Britannia thinks your not a number, but a person I want to know your name." asked Duke.
"Nagita."
"Nagita I promise you and everyone else whose lives Britannia has ruined that they will pay." Duke's vow puts a smile on his face with his last words being: "Death to Britannia, long live Japan." Nagita closes his eyes one last time.
Duke wished he could give the man a proper burial but hears the captain's mocking laughter. "You still failed, that eleven is dead and I sent soldiers to other places, they'll find that schoolboy soon and return the girl to Clovis for…" before he could Finish Duke shot him in the head for insulting Nagita.
"His name was Nagita." Said Duke who runs to save Lelouch and the girl but through that sees the horrors of Britannia slaughtering the Japanese who live in the ghetto.
"Damm you all to hell."
Lelouch and the girl…
Since Lelouch is probably the weakest person alive he drops the girl causing her to fall on the floor.
"What the hell are you?" asked Lelouch "Its your fault isn't it? Not only that but Britannia has even killed Suzaku.
Trying to sneak out of the subway entrance Lelouch sees an exit but also sees Britannian soldiers killed the Japanese who were inside a warehouse.
That is when things get worse, his phone rings alerting the solders of his presence.
Forced to the wall the leader of the soldiers says: What an appropriate location for a terrorist to meet his end."
"You scum." Is he only thing Lelouch says.
"Still, you did well for a student, but hardly expected you're a Britannian. Unfortunately, my clever young friend, you have no future."
Duke finally arrives ready to save Lelouch, but when the soldiers open fire, the girl beats him to it taking a headshot for him.
The two who were forced here, look ashamed, grief-stricken and angry when the soldier claims that they will just claim the terrorist tortured and killed her.
'How can this be happening? First Suzaku's killed, now this girl, now me and the man who tried to save me are about to die. Before I had a single thing to do with my life.' Thought Lelouch who now thinks about his sister Nunally.
Then surprising both him and Duke, the girl grabs his wrist. "You don't want it top end here do you? You appear to have a reason for living. If I grant you power could you go on? I propose a deal, in exchange for this power you must agree to make my one wish come true. Except this contract and you accept its conditions, while living in the world of humans you will live unlike any other, a different province, a different time, a different life."
Hearing the mystery girls' words Lelouch starts to see images in his head such, what looks like a cult with various people with some symbol on their heads, space, a red serpent and a flag with red and white stripes a blue rectangle with fifty white stars being waved.
"The power of the king will condemn you to a life of solitude. Are you prepared for this?"
Lelouch makes up his mind when he sees the man he hates most: his father reminding him of why he must life and fight.
"Yes, I hereby accept the terms of your contract." Said Lelouch. Who stands up to confront the soldiers. "Say, how should a Britannian who detest his own country live his life?"
'Hates his country?' thought Duke.
The soldier asks: "Are you some kind of radical?" pointing his gun at Lelouch and Duke.
"What's wrong, why not shot, your opponents are one man and a school boy, or did you realize that the only ones who kill are those prepared to be killed." Said Lelouch. His eye started glowing red with a bird shaped symbol flashing. "I Lelouch Vi Britannia command you, now all of you die."
'Vi Britannia, the only person with a name like that are members of the royal family, that would mean Lelouch… is… a… prince who hates his father's empire.' Thought Duke.
The Britannian soldiers are under Lelouch's control and all make creepy smiles as they point their guys at their own heads and kill themselves disturbing Duke.
'That was the turning point. Since that day I've lived a lie, a lie of living, my name to was a lie, my personal history a lie, nothing but lies, I was sick to death of a world that couldn't be changed, but even in my lies I refuse to give up in despair, but now this incredible power, its mine.'
Lelouch just gives an evil looking smirk while there is blood on his cheek. "Well then."
Duke is only thinking. 'What have I gotten myself into?'
And done, we'll get to more action next chapter where Lelouch and Duke will work together to save the Shinjuku ghetto. Also Duke being able to take on Clovis's royal guard by himself, compared to Cobra is amateur hour and also as stated in the prologue they've met the Autobots and would have helped them fight Decepticons so not entirely unbelievable, also the Joe's would be their universes equivalent to the Knights of the Round who are Britannia's best soldiers but an army so the Joe's are all Bandases. I also have another Code Geass fanfic idea I'll be doing soon.
