For Lydia it was strange how they got to this new place and a bit jarring too. It started with Daki merely calling out.
"Biwa woman, we need a place to clean ourselves only if the master is not ready for us!"
There was still silent before hearing a single strum of an instrument and they suddenly stood in front of a building. Through the wooden barred windows the steam billowing out, the heat was so inviting against her skin and saw many rows of towels inside the room.
"Oh wow, an actual bathhouse, this is a dream come!" Lydia singing-song happily.
"Have you never been to a bathhouse?" Daki asked dryly, watching her dance around like a child.
"No, I always wanted to! Sadly, I didn't have time plus I didn't want to have to look up what bathhouse would let me in because of my tattoo,"
That surprised Gyutaro because that was the same reason, he could never enter any bathhouses. With all his markings all over his body and also, he didn't have the best of the reputation being a violent debt collector in the past. But Lydia could easily cover up her tattoo with a towel because that hummingbird was so tiny on her back. It made him wonder how lenient Japan was to still have such a rule that far in future.
"At least we're not in Yoshiwara so we don't have to worry about orgies!" Lydia exclaimed before running inside the building.
"Why the fuck does she think that happens at the bathhouses there?" Daki swore this girl was still a little psycho.
"Hm beats me...let's just get this over with already, " he smirked, actually knowing why.
Lydia skipped past the changing rooms noticing there was no one here, which made sense because they were in a castle that had infinite possibilities of rooms. No wonder she easily got lost here and probably would never escape it on her own. This castle really was fit for a demon king.
She quickly pulled off her lingerie putting her foot in a giant pool of water. It was heavenly, the water was nice and hot. She never realized how much she missed modern plumbing and electricity; it nearly made her cry.
"Ow ow I hate that bastard's talons cut me up like this!" she hissed from the stinging pain as the hot water soaked against her wounds.
She saw the demoness enter the pool, then begrudgingly Gyutaro who both covered themselves with towels.
"Er well this is awkward..." Lydia squeaked, making sure that her body fully emerged in the water.
"Only because you have no damn sense, I'm starting to think that you actually enjoy running around naked!" Daki crossed her arms, annoyed. Luckily no other demons or Upper ranks witnessed any of this or she would die of embarrassment.
Lydia explained to her that she didn't expect her to join. She specifically told Gyutaro and herself to bathe. Also thought it was strange that Daki wanted to bathe in the same proximity of her brother.
"Urgh get your mind out of the gutter Lydia! It is normal for siblings to wash up together, that is why we are covered up unlike you!" she was so tempted to slap her silly.
"Look I didn't mean it in that way!"
"Such a dirty girl," Gyutaro suddenly thought of a way to get back at her for always messing with him.
"She practically into the that incest stuff!"
Lydia sputtered and coughed "What?! No, I'm not!?"
"If anyone is int- (splash)"
Unable to finish her sentence because the demoness blasted in the face with water while calling her a shameless perverted girl. Even Gyutaro got involved in the fun, making sure wave after wave dunk onto her head.
"You guys! (splash) S-Suck! Nothing, but motherfuckers (splash) w-who are c-conjoined at the hip bullies!"
"Say some stupid shit like that again!" he held her bottle of soap in a threatening way. "I'll make sure to scrub that potty mouth out so hard you'll be choking on bubbles for the foreseeable future,"
Daki for good measure grabbed the soap from her brother and threw it across the other side of the pool basically telling her to go fetch bitch. Lydia merely turned her back from them and used the best nonverbal expression she knew. Her middle finger making sure to smack it on her ass cheek underneath the water gesturing that they can kiss it!
"If that was anyone else she would be dead by now!" Daki remarked watching as she swam to the other side.
"Yea she ain't slick at all!" Gyutaro was in agreement because one way or another there will be a payback for her words and actions.
"She can't do this with the master!"
"She won't, she isn't that stupid I'm pretty sure..." he grumbled that last part while sinking farther in the water.
"I wouldn't be so sure especially with that hair-brain plan of hers,"
Then she told her brother more in depth of everything that happened to them.
"I can't have her being a weak little human anymore. It's too many close calls as soon the mate ritual is done I'm turning her,"
"Yes I think that's best too, but Lydia doesn't want that, she more than likely fight you,"
"It don't matter because she'll want what I want the mate ritual will bond her to me forever,"
Daki came to a realization and began making girlish squeals.
"Like a marriage brother! Oh I can't wait, I'll have a sister-in-law!"
"Shh quiet it down Daki!" Gyutaro ordered because he didn't want her to know that yet. There were a lot of things about the mating ritual he was specifically leaving out because he wanted things to go smoothly.
Lydia looked in their direction wondering what the excitement was about. They were talking in such a hushed tone she couldn't hear them from this distance. They also kept giving her side glances every now and then. She did her best to ignore them and just focus on the bath instead.
She just wanted to enjoy this small moment of pleasure in the hot water. Turning this bath into a bubble bath, she made sure that the pond scum and other grime off. After a while Daki got out and she ended up staring at Gyutaro.
Lydia truly didn't understand why he thought of himself as a hideous monster because to her he was really handsome. Sure the way his bones protrude out his body was far from normal, but it only drew more concern from her than fear when she first saw it. The way he looked even now with his head half sticking out of the water with only his lime green hair floating on the surface sort of reminded her of a crocodile. Especially his eyes were like kindled flames she could honestly get lost in them.
"Hmm I dreamed of something like that?" Lydia wondered out thinking maybe earlier she was unconsciously looking him in his eyes.
Suddenly Gyutaro called out for her to get out swam over sadly feeling like it was too short of time to be leaving the bath already.
In the changing room Lydia was putting in leave on conditioner in her hair. Daki and Gyutaro, who were fully dressed, began to bombarded with what she shouldn't do or say in front of their master. Finding her stretchy hair tie to put her coils up in a high puff.
"Stop playing with your hair Lydia and listen to us, this is very important!" Daki remarked with her arms crossed making Lydia's eye twitch.
"I'm not playing with my hair! I am doing it to look presentable in front of this guy!"
Then she listed off everything they told her to show that she was in fact listening.
"Don't look him in the eyes, don't speak unless spoken to, don't make any nasty looks nor show any strong emotions and do not refuse any request he may ask of me," the last part left a bitter taste in her mouth. To her this man sounded extreme like those kings in the medieval times, who would behead their people over the smallest offense.
"He's not just some guy, don't disrespect him!"
Lydia nodded and remembered her telling this. It was clear as day that Daki wanted to either impress or had the biggest crush on this king.
"Does this king of all demons have a name, so I don't disrespect him?" she pulled her kimono completely on. She desperately needed to do her laundry wishing there was time to wash her clothes here instead at the snowy riverbanks of Yoshiwara.
"You call him master. It is up to him if he wants you to know his name," Gyutaro worded carefully, not wanting for them to be punished for telling her.
Lydia didn't like the idea of calling him that, even if she was a lowly human to him. She'll think of something when the time comes because she wasn't a demon and that meant he was no master to her.
Suddenly the siblings looked at each feeling a presence of another outside waiting for them.
"See what the fuck he wants and I'll hop in if need be," Gyutaro growled as Daki walked outside.
He clutched his scythe close to his face staring out the window as his sister interacted with the demon.
"Who is that?" Lydia was concerned because his weapon was out.
This had to be the first demon that she saw that was actually wearing a suit. It was an old timey suit and it sorta made him look like a butler especially with his pimp-stripe pants. Both his cheeks had tattoos of ombre colored squares going down his face. His eyes were turquoise, but this time she was actually paying attention to what the kanji was saying in his eyes.
"Lower One. Is he dangerous?"
"He is only dangerous to a human like you, but to someone like us...he is nothing," he replied wondering what the hell did the little nightmare want.
This made Lydia frown and instantly claimed "I want to learn how to fight properly!"
Gyutaro furrowed his brow, but kept his eyes on Lower One while saying.
"No, you don't need to fight cause you have me,"
"I didn't have you earlier, don't you think it would be safest if I learned some self-defense moves?" she was trying to convince him especially since Akaza broke her only weapon.
"Those other demons know that your my mate and will not touch you now,"
"Tell that to Karaku, he was real handsy with me earlier,"
"He what?!"
She now had his solo focus as he became enraged thinking of ways to brutalize Upper Four. Thinking he let him off the hook too soon.
"Trust me I won't let that happen ever again,"
"Still, I think I should know how to fight!"
"That's the problem, don't think about it because I already said no!"
It hurt his feelings that she didn't think that he could protect her now. All that shit she went through put doubts in that head of hers. He hated that and will have to prove to her that he is strong. The last thing he needed was for her to learn how to fight demons unless she herself became one.
"Y-Your not being fair Gyutaro!" she stated upset that he wasn't even considering it.
"Life isn't fair Ly-di-a and you will learn that soon enough!" he refused to be swayed by her.
This was no longer up for discussion anymore, but what she did learn is that he is a complete control freak. She needed to fight regardless if he helped her or not. She just needed to perfective her concentration breathing and hopefully get a hold of that volume eighteen that Akaza had. In order for her to learn more powerful techniques.
He suddenly grabbed hold of her hand to go be with his sister.
"All of Upper Six is here good good! I am to take you to the master!" Enmu seemed pleased to say this.
"As if we believe you con man!" The demoness immediately called out.
"Con man?" he was confused by that bit, but then put on a dreamy smile.
"Bring up my human past, are we? I admit I wasn't the best of a doctor-"
"More of a quack than anything else!" Daki was quick to interject.
"But I assure you the work I do now is thanked by a man or woman's dying breath,"
Lydia shivered slightly from his words wondering what type of powers does he have?
"I'm sure you want to fulfill your dying wish to be in the upper ranks?" Gyutaro remembered his final moments after being defeated.
"I...it is no longer a dream I wish to pursue," he replied cautiously, feeling an eminent sense of bloodlust coming off of him.
With neck breaking speed he was suddenly in front of Enmu knocking him to the floor. Lydia gasped surprised not expecting him to disappear and reappear way over there nor attack him for no reason.
"That's too bad I was really in the mood for dashing your hopes and dreams away...isn't that right sis?"
Daki cackled in agreement ready to knock to him a couple pegs down from Lower One. Gyutaro had both his scythes whirling in midair ready to show Lydia a blood battle. So, she could see him as her big strong hero again.
