Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Previously, on ER:Neela left to live with Ray. Sam and Gates seem to have gotten back together, and Morris made a pre-marriage proposal to Claudia. Weeks after receiving a kidney from Seattle, Carter invites Weaver, Benton, Susan, Elizabeth, and Rachel to the inauguration of the Carter Center. Benton and Corday enjoyed reuniting. Carter also receives a dubious visit from Makemba and is left wondering whether to stay at County or not.

16x01 - REUNION - PART 1
SCENE 1 - TV STATION IN MIAMI
September 2009. Miami, California. In a busy TV studio, two anchors are about to go live for the local evening news. The crew makes last-minute adjustments before the program starts, and from the editing booth, an intern receives a story from Kerry Weaver. At the last minute.
Weaver:Here it is. Take this now!
The intern runs off with the file in hand.
With a look of satisfaction and a "mission accomplished" expression on her face, Kerry, wearing a gray executive suit, heads in the opposite direction of the intern and prepares to leave the studio when she is kindly interrupted by Courtney Brow, the director who invited her to leave County and work at a TV station in Miami.
Brow:Last minute again.
Weaver:I'm sorry – smiling – the edit took longer than I expected.
Brow:It's okay, it's the closing story, not the opening.
Weaver:Still... It was tense. I thought I wouldn't make it. And here I was thinking those moments of urgency would end with my ER days.
Brow:Good you mentioned that. That's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about.
Weaver:What exactly?
Brow:Well, actually, it's with the management. But I think you'll like it.
SCENE 2 - MANAGEMENT ROOM
Weaver:A story about my colleagues from County?
Kerry is caught off guard. She is standing next to Courtney, and seated at the table in front of them is the station's news director, a 60-year-old man, not too fat, not too bald, but very friendly.
Director:It would be interesting. Your stories always get good feedback, and many viewers have taken a liking to you.
Brow:Your story earlier this year about medical care in Florida was spot on. And a documentary about your years at County could be a continuation of that.
Director:Exactly. More of a documentary than a story. I believe it would bring in good returns.
Weaver:Ehr... I'm not sure if a story about my years at the hospital would make people like me more. – smiling – I think it would be the opposite.
Director:Not at all! It'll be great. We're willing to air it as a year-end special, a one-hour segment with your footage.
Weaver:Ehr... Okay... But... Many of my colleagues don't work at County anymore. If I go to the ER, I might not even have many familiar faces to interview.
Director:Travel across the country. Reunite with your colleagues.
This last suggestion piques Weaver's interest for the first time.
Weaver:Okay. Okay, it sounds interesting. How will it work? What's my team?
Director:Well, review our agenda, give us your suggestions, and we'll see how it goes. But I think two cameramen and a sound technician should suffice.
Kerry lets out a slight smile.
SCENE 3 - WEAVER'S ROOM
Kerry is on the phone, with a notepad in hand.
Weaver:Thank you so much. I owe you one.
Jerry:Don't mention it, Dr. Weaver.
Weaver:Oh, and one more thing...
Jerry:I already know. We never had this conversation. Goodbye.
Weaver:Thank you, Jerry. See you. – hanging up the phone, with a happy expression on her face
Updating her notes on the paper, Kerry lists a series of names and addresses, organized by state. She seems increasingly pleased with these small actions. Boston, Abby and Luka, Ohio, Susan, North Carolina, Elizabeth... and her first destination: University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Reason for the trip: to interview Carol and Doug. Too bad when she sees Doug's name, her smile doesn't last...
