When Oliver and Laurel arrived at Star City General Hospital, they found that in addition to Thea standing outside Helena's hospital room, so were Bruce and Selina and Selina was holding their son Damien and Selina was in full mom mode.
"How bad is she?" Oliver asked.
"Broken leg, broken arm, three cracked ribs, lacerated spinal column and a concussion. Doctors say she's lucky she's not paralyzed. It's even worse than the injuries Tim and Stephanie got. Like whoever did this had more of a grudge against her than they did against them." Bruce said.
"You think it was the same attacker?" Oliver asked, surprised that whoever hurt Tim and Stephanie would come all the way to Star City just to attack Helena.
"The description Thea gave matched the description of the same person who attacked them and more importantly, she mentioned that the attacker knew who Helena really was, just like how he knew who Tim and Steph both were, since they said that they were called out by name." Bruce said.
"I swear, when I find out who's responsible for attacking my baby girl, I'm gonna break out my old claws and use them as a scratching post." Selina said angrily.
"I don't think it's going to be that easy, since this guy has taken down three highly trained vigilantes already. But more importantly, he seems to be targeting the Bat Family and if he knows who Helena, Tim and Stephanie are." Oliver said.
"Then it stands to reason that he knows who I am too." Bruce agreed.
"That rules out most of your usual playmates, since none of them know who's under the cowl. But you should make sure that the other members of your team, both current and former, are secure." Oliver said.
"Dick's covering Gotham while we're gone and considering the fact that he's my oldest protege, I think he'll be fine and I already warned Kate to be on alert and I even sent my new protege Harper to stay with her until we get this sorted out." Bruce said.
"What about Alfred?" Oliver asked, since the loyal butler was probably one of Bruce's most trusted confidants.
"He's here with us, getting our hotel room in order. I want to see if we can pick up any leads on whoever this new guy is while we're here." Bruce said.
"Do you think he'll come after Ollie, since he trained with you too?" Laurel asked.
"No, this guy seems to have a grudge against me and he's going after people who are directly connected to me." Bruce said.
"We need to find out who this guy is and why he's doing this." Bruce said, though he was brooding even more than usual.
"Bruce, this isn't your fault." Oliver said.
"Isn't it. Three of my kids are badly hurt because I couldn't protect them from some maniac who has a grudge against me. I put on a mask to protect my family from my choices and yet they're still suffering because of them. What kind of father can't protect his family?" Bruce said.
"Bruce, they all knew the risks of getting involved in this life. They accepted them." Oliver said.
"Still, what kind of father brings his kids into this life." Bruce said.
"You told me that doing that helped you keep Bruce Wayne and Batman separate. More importantly, having family around you allowed you to keep your humanity. Otherwise I'm certain you would've caved the Joker's skull in by now." Oliver said.
"Trust me, after he murdered Jason, I nearly did. I took Selena, Dick, Kate and Helena to talk me off that ledge. But that was the closest I ever came to breaking my code." Bruce admitted.
"But you didn't and we'll get this guy." Oliver said, right as his phone rang.
"Hey Luke, are you on your way to the hospital?" Oliver asked, since he knew that Luke and Helena were close, since they were both legacies of the Bat Family.
"No, I'm still in the Barracks and we got a hit on the guy who attacked Helena. Calling himself the Red Hood." Luke said and Oliver stiffened.
"Where is he?" Oliver asked.
"It looks like he's raiding a Triad hideout near 5th." Luke said.
"Thanks." Oliver said as he hung up.
"What kind of call was that?" Bruce asked.
"The kind that requires two founding Justice League members to respond to, since Luke just got a hit on this Red Hood clown. You want in?" Oliver asked.
"Absolutely. Selina, stay here with Helena, you and Laurel will serve as additional security for her." Bruce said and Selina nodded at her husband.
"Just promise me you'll put the bastard who did this in even worse shape than he left our daughter in." Selina said.
"I promise." Bruce said as he and Oliver walked out of the hospital.
