Weiss was practically bouncing in her seat at the prospect of finally getting to see her sister, and wondering how their meeting was going to go. Would her friends be around for her to introduce? Would they spend some quality time together?
The same was for Yang and Ruby, the both of them wondering if they were going to interact with Qrow and how that was going to play out. Judging by how the last episode ended the two knew they were going to meet him drunk, that was a given.
Weiss wanted to yell for Raider to begin the episode but the girl held her composure, while Yang and Ruby on the other hand weren't as poise. "C'mon! Let's start!" Yang shouted impatiently.
"Geez, okay, okay." Raider, doing as asked, began the next episode.
(Volume 3 Intro)
No matter how many times this intro played, each time Adam came on screen made Blake worry about what his part was in the volume, nothing good was a given, but still…
"Weiss! What is the big deal? Who is it? Who is she?!" Ruby shouts, running after Weiss, who wasn't giving her any answers.
Stopping, Ruby finally got one as they both paused in front of the now landed airship, "Winter."
Well, the people in the room knew now as whenever the two times the intro played, Weiss shouted her name, not hiding her excitement.
It was nice to see Weiss so happy, but Blake couldn't help the faint feeling of apprehensiveness as Weiss's sister is not only a Schnee, but one who apparently works for the Atlas military. Blake might have gotten used to Weiss, but that doesn't automatically give the rest of her family the same privilege.
"Wait, your sister?" Ruby asks, still catching up. Weiss doesn't respond and instead shouts for her sibling.
Winter turns around as Weiss and Ruby come closer. "Winter! I'm so happy to see you!" Weiss all but yells, but she pauses realizing her behavior is unbecoming, "Oh! Your presence honors us." Weiss finishes, giving her sister a curtsey.
"Beacon, it's been a long time. The air feels…different," Winter doesn't give her sister the same greeting, commenting about their surroundings. Ruby jumps in saying that it is fall, saying that it's colder.
Both Weiss on screen and next to the girl respond in the same way. Punching Ruby on the shoulder. Grunting in pain, Ruby looks exactly like her counterpart.
Others wince as they heard the punch itself.
"So, what are you doing here?" Weiss asks, her sister telling her that the reason is classified, an emotion of secrecy on her face.
"Oh, right, well, how long are you staying?" Winter gave Weiss the same answer.
"I'm sure we'll find out soon enough," Yang says with a shrug.
Weiss gives a small 'Of Course' and Ruby sees this as an opportunity to introduce herself. "Well, this is nice. I think?"
Weiss breaks her character, yelling in pure joy, "You're going to love it here! I know you travel a lot but so much at Beacon is different from Atlas, Vale too. The government and school are completely separate, can you believe it?! I-" She was cut off as Winter tells her she's more than familiar with how the kingdom handles its bureaucracy.
Wow, I've never seen Weiss so…energetic! It's so adorable! Ruby squeals to herself with a big smile.
Blake whispered just that, "So animated."
"Aww, Weiss, we've never seen you so expressive before, it's so cute!" Yang comments, wanting to reach over and nudge the girl but is too far away.
Weiss said nothing as her face burned a bright red.
Winter reminds her that that isn't why she has come, to which Weiss apologizes, but Winter continues that she didn't come to watch her younger sister fail in battle so miserably.
"But, we won?" Weiss wasn't understanding how her sister thought she failed.
"Yeah! Weiss was awesome in battle!" Ruby defends with a huff, her cheeks puffed.
"Man, your sister seems like you when we first met, but multiply that by ten," Nora adds, not seeing what problem Weiss's sister had with her.
"Only a novice would refer to that as a victory, I counted at least three strikes missed." This led to Weiss putting her head down. "Leave us," Weiss directs the knights behind her, to which they only took three steps back.
"How is that leaving?!" Sun shouts with disbelief at the screen.
Winter releases a breath, finally smiling, and asks how Weiss has been. "Oh, splendid, thank you for asking! I'm actually in the very top ranking of our sparring class, the rest of my studies are going wonderfully too. I'm-"
Weiss abruptly cut off by her sister's hand coming down, smacking her across the head, "Silence you boob!"
There were multiple things people wanted to say about that small interaction, and it seems Weiss was the first one as she winced, as if feeling the hit itself.
Boob??? Some sat pondering.
"Ha! Boob!" Nora exclaims, holding her stomach as she found it hilarious.
Others were unpacking, especially Yang, that Winter just hit Weiss on the top of the head, and for what?! Answering the question Winter gave her?
"I don't recall asking about your ranking, I asked how you've been," Winter clarifies, emphasizing what she really meant.
Everyone, except Weiss, let out a collective 'Oh', seeing as that made more sense. But Yang still didn't think Weiss needed to be smacked upside the head for it.
"Are you eating properly? Have you taken up any hobbies? Are you making new friends?"
"Well, there's Ruby," Weiss gestures to the girl next to her with a smile. Said girl gives a snort as she pushes down the bump on Weiss's head, wincing with her smile turning downwards.
Weiss honestly shouldn't have expected anything different from when she planned to introduce Ruby, though that didn't mean this was any less embarrassing. Ruby, on the other hand, found that, so far, the meeting was going great.
"I see, so this is the leader you wrote of, how appropriately…underwhelming." Winter gives the girl a once over before responding, trying to find a word for the girl.
"Hey, Ruby is a great leader!" Yang yelled in her sister's defense. Ruby wasn't quite catching on, wasn't that a compliment from Winter?
All of Ruby's friends were doing the same, getting mad at Winter for her choice of words and defending the girl, thus making the girl even more confused.
Bless Ruby's heart, she took it as a compliment, thanking the woman.
Weiss had to lean in and explain to Ruby wha her sister said, this leading to Ruby finally understanding before frowning, so I guess first meetings aren't going that great.
"Greetings Ruby Rose, I wish to thank you for taking an interest in my sister."
Ruby supposes that's how she normally talks, but the way she phrased it…couldn't stop her cheeks from flushing just a tad.
She was only thanking me for being friends with Weiss… so why does the thought of more make my body all fuzzy and pitter-pattery?
"Oh, uh, yes, of course. The honor is in my…court," Ruby salutes and curtsies before stumbling.
"Ruby?"
"Yeah Weiss?"
"Never talk like that ever again."
"Mhm, yep, got it."
Ruby catches herself, but that doesn't stop Winter's eyes from narrowing. "I have business with the general and your headmaster, but, seeing as I'm early, why don't you take me to your quarters." Weiss lets out an excited 'really?!' "Yes, I wish to inspect them and make sure they're up to my personal standards."
"Of course, just so you're aware the bunk beds only look unstable," Weiss informs in advance.
"'Bunk beds'?" Winter parrots.
"I don't think she's going to appreciate how our room operates," Yang mutters with a laugh.
"Oh, absolutely not," Weiss agrees, but there's nothing they can do about it.
"I'll catch up- I mean, I will reconvene with you both…at a later…juncture!" Ruby calls out as Weiss, Winter, and the Atlesian Knights depart.
"Again, when you meet my sister, or any of my family for that matter, please, I beg of you, do not talk like that," Weiss pleads without looking at the girl.
Ruby takes note of this, but her mind catches on to another part of that sentence. When she introduces me to the rest of her family?
Ruby awkwardly moves away, repeating her previous words.
That whole interaction was just… words couldn't describe how they felt watching that. I knew she had trouble talking to new people, but that was just… Yang couldn't even finish the thought.
"I can't decide if that was better or worse than when you first met Weiss," Blake adds.
"Surprisingly, I'd say that was better. Ruby almost blew the two of you up and left a mark of their first meeting, literally," Jaune joins, his expression contorting into a wince.
From someone else's point of view, they follow behind the two sisters, and when they catch up to two of the knights, they rip off the head, throwing it to the ground.
I only know one man who would be bold enough to do that…. Yang starts with a smirk.
"Hey!" Qrow yells to grab the girl's attention.
An old, drunk Qrow.
"Yeah, I'm talking to you, Ice Queen," Qrow finishes by throwing the beheaded bot to the ground. Winter yells for him to halt, and all freeze, except Weiss as she stomps up to the man.
"Excuse me! Do you have any idea who you're talking to?!" Qrow shushes her, putting a lazy hand on her forehead, telling her she isn't the one he's talking to. Pushing her aside, he stands before the older Schnee, who glares at him with venom.
Now this explains the title of the episode, Pyrrha thinks to herself.
A stray crow caws as Qrow pulls Winter's attention on him. "Saw that gaudy ship of yours in town, I guess you're here too." Winter quickly retorts that she's standing right in front of him. Qrow took a second to squint his eyes and lean forward, "So it would seem."
"You realize you just destroyed Atlas military property?"
"Now, everyone can see that this is going to end in a fight, but what I want to know is where the tension between the two even came from. What started all this in the first place?" Sun leaned forward curiously, his tail flicking.
Before anyone could turn to Weiss, she stopped them, before this volume she hadn't even known the man's name until both Yang and Ruby blurted it out back at the end of the first episode.
"Ooooh, I'm sorry. See, I mistook this for some sort of…sentient garbage," Qrow responded lazily, and with no remorse as he "apologized".
"I don't have time for your immature games, Qrow." That was when Weiss came back, not knowing that the two had met before, given by her questioning voice.
"Geez, you Atlas specialists think you're so special, don't you?"
"It's in the name, soooo…" Yang trailed off.
"It's in the title," Winter replies, already having had enough of Qrow.
"Well, you know what you really are? A bunch of sellouts. Just like your boss."
That seemed to have struck a nerve in Winter as her nex words held a lot more bile in them. "I'm not sure what you think you're implying, but I've heard enough."
Qrow just didn't know when to quit, "Oh, I heard too. I heard ol' Ironwood finally turned his back on Ozpin." Weiss repeats the name, wondering what this has to do with Ozpin, but Winter pushes her sister away, telling her it is time for her to leave.
This just left the kids even more confused, what was Ozpin hiding, and did it have to do with Atlas and Qrow.
Weiss is only more confused. Qrow tells the heiress to listen to her big sister, she'll protect her, and adds how Atlas is going to protect everyone.
Out of all kingdoms, why Atlas? Why is it so important? Blake thought out of slight disdain and curiosity.
"If you won't hold your tongue," Winter whips out her sword, pointing it at Qrow threateningly, "Then I will gladly remove it for you!"
"Alright then," Qrow brushes back his hair, a confident smirk on his face, "Come take it."
Wasting no time, Winter rushes forward, attempting to jab his head but Qrow dodges every one, his smirk never wavering. As Qrow bends down, Winter goes to cut his back but Harbinger stops her from doing so. With a spin, Harbinger is moved into a fencing pose.
Frowning, Winter took the same stance, placing one arm behind her back. Both blades clicked against one another for a small second before the actual fight began. Qrow swung Harbinger and with great agility Winter avoided each one.
"Go Uncle Qrow!" Ruby, completely forgetting anything that happened prior, began cheering for her uncle.
"Kick her ass!" It seemed Yang sat in the same boat as her sister.
Weiss simply sat in her seat, staring at the screen as she watches the two battle.
The others stared blankly at the screen, not having a clue on how to react to this. Except Nora. Nora was cheering for both sides just because there was a current fight on screen.
The two were encircled by onlookers as the two continued to go at it with each other. Ruby finally caught up to Weiss, "What's going on?!"
"Some crazy guy just started attacking my sister!"
"Technically it was your sister who attacked first, but, hey, who's keeping track?" Blake shrugged as she watched Yang, Ruby, and Weiss root for their respective family members.
"Oh no, who would do such a thaaaat is my uncle!"
"What?!" Weiss screeches in disbelief.
"Kick her butt Uncle Qrow!" Ruby doesn't waste a second to yell, dismissing what Weiss told her.
"Teach him respect Winter!"
Mercury walks through the crowd and he stops as the fight between the two adults catches his attention. He quickly runs past the swarm of people to go report it to Cinder.
Back with the fight, it continues to go back and forth until Winter lands a hit on his face, creating a determined glint in his eye. Winter creates a glyph to get her away from the smashing blow Qrow had created, demolishing the ground below.
"Go Uncle Qrow!"
"We believe in you!"
Both Yang and Ruby continue to shout, encouraging the reckless battle before them.
Am I the only one getting deja vu? Jaune wonders as he sees Qrow create a hole. Still the same two families, just different generations.
Winter gives the man a smirk as she propels herself into the air, before landing on the grass from a few backflips. Due to Qrow's zero hesitation in wanting to bring Winter down, the man carelessly cuts a streetlamp in two.
Flipping over him, Winter gives a smug smile as she avoids a blow from Qrow, landing on Harbinger, and kicking him in the face. Bounding off the stump of the broken street lamp, Winter launches herself and perches on a faraway metal bar.
She sends her body into the air, stabs her sword on the side of a large wall, and proceeds to climb. Qrow sees this and begins to shoot, matching her beat for beat as he runs with her.
As Qrow lags behind he jumps a large distance to keep up again, but with that small deterrence his fast motions don't waver as he goes back to do the same thing. When a white cloud of smoke appears, that's when Qrow stops for a moment, but Winter doesn't as she charges towards him with a cry.
Yang and Ruby sat on the edge of their seats, this was normally the climax of a battle, and they were ecstatic to see who would come out on top.
Qrow stands there, unmoving and ready for her. Winter then creates two blades out of her original, and points one at him, prepared to finish him. Both of their swords connect and for a moment all is still until the two come crashing down, fabricating a crater from the impact.
But the fall doesn't stop them as they both get back up.
"Let's go Uncle Qrow!" Ruby yells, but then grabs Weiss's shoulders and begins to shake her, "Weiss, you're not cheering loud enough!"
"Why would I be cheering for your uncle you Dolt?!" If anything she would be rooting for her sister, but Weiss didn't plan on cheering as the whole situation that led up to the fight was ridiculous.
Using Harbinger to slow himself, Qrow stands firm. Winter swings one of her swords and stabs it into the ground, creating a flock of tiny icy nevermore that fly towards Qrow. Winter smirks as she watches Qrow use Harbinger to block the birds from hitting him, even destroying a few. The nevermores come to a halt as Qrow releases a cut blade of energy.
Glaring at the man, a large white glyph appears behind the Schnee. The gears in Harbinger turn, extending the sword, while with Winter, she lowered her stance to the ground as she was ready to attack, but it all stops as he puts Harbinger away.
"Wait, what?! Come on!" Yang shouts when the fight suddenly ends.
Some of the kids gave a sigh, the battle finally coming to a close. None of them really knew what to do as it was Ruby's uncle, which they didn't really know, and Weiss's sister, which they didn't really know.
And they weren't going to encourage an unnecessary fight, unlike someone.
Qrow uses his finger, taunting her with a come hither motion. With a large cry, Winter launches herself, but it all stops with a shout from General Ironwood.
The students realize now why Qrow randomly stopped. He was setting her up as he noticed General Ironwood.
Winter stops everything she's doing and addresses him appropriately. Ironwood was the least bit happy, and poor Penny as she stood behind him and watched all of it.
Again, Ruby's mood changed immediately once she saw her friend.
"What do you think you're doing?" Winter defends herself and tells the man that Qrow started the altercations.
Qrow, with his hands resting on the back of his head, thought otherwise. "That's actually not true, she attacked first." Ironwood asks Winter if this is correct, to which her silence with her head down is enough of an answer.
Ironwood looks around at the students before setting his eyes on the drunk, making Qrow jump and point at himself.
Yang and Ruby gave a light laugh at their uncle, the ferocity seeming to have died down once Ironwood showed up to stop the two.
Ironwood asked him what his business is here at the academy, and Qrow gave him the same question but before he could respond a new voice appeared. "Now, now everyone," It was Professor Ozpin with Glynda by his side, "There is a sanctioned fight happening just around the corner of the colosseum, that I can assure you has better seats. And popcorn." Glynda yells that the adults will take care of the mess made. Ironwood nods and gestures for Winter and Qrow to follow him.
Penny was, thankfully, able to give a quick wave to Ruby before following the general. Ruby returns it then latches herself onto her uncle's arm with a shout. "Uncle Qrow! Hi. Oh, it's so good to see you, did you miss me? Did you miss me?!" Qrow answers with a ruffle to the hair and a joking 'nope'.
"Man, I wish I could have been there…" Yang mumbles solemnly.
"Now we understand why the two of you are so reckless," Blake states with a tiny smirk.
"We're not that bad!" Dismissing her words, Yang waves her hand at the Faunus. This response just made everyone give the girl a look.
Ozpin grabs Qrow's attention, telling him he would like to have a word with him while behind him Glynda proceeds to fix the damage.
"I think I'm in trouble," Qrow whispers. Ruby tells him that he did just tear up the courtyard.
"It's like they say, 'like uncle like niece'," Nora gives a small shrug, foregoing the fact that that's not how the saying goes. No one planned on correcting her.
Qrow doesn't disagree and tells the girl he'll see her later, ending with a fist bump. "And suddenly your recklessness makes sense," Weiss says as she joins the red-head. Ruby retorts that Weiss is simply mad because her uncle whooped Winter's butt. "That was a draw at best."
"I mean, yeah, there wasn't a clear winner since the general intervened," Jaunes mutters.
A sudden gasp came from Ruby, "Do you think they might continue the fight?"
"I seriously doubt that," Weiss quickly says, but if there was, she would be rooting all she could for her sister.
In Professor Ozpin's office, both Winter and General Ironwood wait. Winter paces back and forth until she hears the sound of the elevator doors opening up, revealing Ozpin, Glynda, and Qrow.
"What were you thinking?!"
"If you were one of my men, I would have you shot!"
Both Winter and Ironwood are quick to shout as soon Qrow is in the line of vision. "If I was one of your men, I'd shoot myself," Qrow replies just as fast, pulling out his canteen to take a drink.
"Your uncle is real ballsy to be saying that to the Atlas military general," Sun would never think of saying that to someone so well respected and powerful.
"Well I wouldn't condone his behavior, retaliating like you did certainly didn't help the situation." Glynda was telling Winter that she was at just as much fault as Qrow was.
"He was drunk."
"He's always drunk!" Glynda doesn't accept that as a viable excuse. All four adults turn to Qrow as he drinks, only stopping when all eyes are on him.
I'm glad he hasn't made them too reckless, Weiss thinks to herself, letting out a sigh.
Ozpin looks at Qrow in disbelief before asking why he is even here. "You've been out of contact for weeks, you can't just go dark like that in the field."
"I'm not one of your special operatives, Jimmy!" Winter sternly corrects the man, using the man's proper title, but Qrow couldn't care less. "You sent me to get intel on our enemy and I'm telling you, our enemy is here."
"Yeah, they weren't very discreet about it. They blew a hole using dynamite and an abandoned railway tunnel," Yang summarizes the last volume finale and what happened.
Ironwood informs Qrow that they are all aware of the situation. "Oh, oh you know! Well thank goodness I'm out there risking my life to keep you all informed!" Ironwood was wanting to say something but Qrow didn't let him get the chance, "Communication's a two way street pal."
Qrow pulls out his scroll and holds up the screen for the general to see, then points at it. "You see this? That's the send button."
"They had reason to assume you'd been compromised," Winter notifies the man.
"And I have reason to assume you don't need to be here, seriously, who invited her?" Qrow is given silence until Ironwood spoke up.
"Schnee will discuss this incident back on my ship," Winter didn't hide her displeasure but Ironwood wouldn't let her get a word in, stopping her firmly "Winter. Leave."
Saluting, she obeyed orders, leaving the room, but not without giving Qrow one last dirty look.
I really want to know the history between those two, it sounds like a really juicy story! Nora whined to herself, hoping they would be given the smallest taste.
As soon as the elevator doors closed, General Ironwood gestured for Qrow to continue. "Your little infiltrator isn't just another pawn, they're the ones responsible for Autumn's condition."
Who's Autumn? And what did those three do?
It was everyone's thoughts, but they'll have to just watch if they want to learn more.
Qrow took another drink as Glynda voiced her disbelief. "Despite what the world thinks, we're not just teachers, or generals, or headmasters. The people in this room, the leaders of the other two academies, we're the ones that keep the world safe from the evils no one even knows about, it's why we meet behind closed doors, why we work in the shadows, so you tell me James, when you brought your army to Vale, did you think you were being discreet? Or did you just not give a damn?"
Ironwood stared at him for a moment before speaking, "Discreet wasn't working." He placed his scroll down on Ozpin's desk and a hologram of Vale appeared. "I'm here because this is what was necessary."
"You're here because Ozpin wanted you here! He made you a part of this inner circle and opened your eyes to the real fight that's in front of us!" Qrow shouts, pointing at the headmaster sitting in his chair.
What is this fight that no one but them knows about? It seems to be awful from how upset Uncle Qrow is getting. Ruby things, gnawing on her lip nervously.
The more vague this show is, the more questions it's raising. Is it doing this on purpose? When will it get to the point where it shines a light on what it is?
Ironwood tells Qrow that he is thanking Ozpin for doing so. "Oh, well, you got a real funny way of showing it," Qrow replies snarkily.
"The people of Vale needed someone to protect them, someone who would act. When they look to the sky and see my fleet, they feel safe and our enemies will feel our strength."
It did real good for ya in the end at the Vytal Festival now didn't it? All your military, turning on you and the people.
Qrow then begins to laugh, "You-you think they're scared of your little ships? I've been out there and I've seen the things she's made of and let me tell you, they are fear." Ozpin stands from his seat, adding that fear will bring grimm.
No one was oblivious to when Qrow used the pronoun 'she'. So this 'she' is the one behind everything, the one the adults are trying to fight in the shadows and keep from the people. But many questions still remain.
"A guardian is a symbol of comfort, but an army, is a symbol of conflict. There's an energy in the air now, a question in the back of everyone's minds. If this is the size of our defenses, what is it we're expecting to fight?" All three look towards Ironwood, a deep scowl set upon each of their faces.
The man released a sigh and took his scroll off the desk. "So then, what would you suggest we do?" Ironwood asks the headmaster. His answer is that he suggests they all find their guardian.
What guardian? Who would be the guardian? And guardian of what? It was more questions everyone thunk, but knew they weren't going to get anything from Raider. It was another one of those spoiler situations.
Back in Cinder's dorm, the women was making sure she heard right from Mercury, who sitting in a chair. "Bad hair, used a scythe, smelled like my dad after a long day. It was him," Mercury went over the details and Emerald, sitting on her bed, asked what they were going to do.
"Nothing, we stay the course. They have no idea who we are, so we have no reason to worry. Besides, the last of the heavy lifting is being taken care of, thanks to our clever little friend," Cinder states as she walks over to her desk, seating herself atop of it and picking up her scroll. "Speaking of which, it appears we have a new access point." Emerald asks if it's anywhere good. "You could say that."
Each time those three showed up, everyone in the room sat silent and focused, hoping they could catch and pick up on the smallest things that could help put a stop to all of this. Those three are in private, they're bound to say something of use.
It's just a simple matter of when.
"Go to your rooms, I'll prepare everything for tomorrow." Mercury and Emerald follow her orders, leaving the room as Cinder continues to go through her scroll.
"Let's give the crowd a good fight." Cinder scrolls down through the doubles team, putting both Mercury and Emerald with Coco Yatsuhashi.
"The randomization process is complete!" Professor Port shouts as the two teams appear on the screens around Amity Colosseum. "Ladies and Gentlemen, your doubles tournament line up!" Every team from RWBY to SSSN cheer on their friends.
Cinder sits by herself, slowly clapping and smirking evilly. And with that the screen goes black and begins to roll the end credits.
"Those two better not do anything bad to our friends or I swear to Oum-!" Before Nora could finish, Ren was already calming her down.
The group had faith in Coco and Yatsuhashi, they were both strong and amazing fighters, they can handle Emerald and Mercury.
