It took two simple words to give Rainbow Dash and Soarin a puzzling problem. Their son Prism Bolt, seemed to have no real development issues. The two famous Wonderbolts had plenty of time to devote to him, tending to his every need and making sure he grew up to be one of the best ponies in Equestria.

But now, there was something Prism Bolt had to undergo if he was going to have any chance at getting into school. It was something his parents hoped wouldn't be anymore of a hassle than teaching him to walk, talk and fly. It was time for the colt to start potty training. To learn how to give up his diapers and do what all ponies his age did when they needed to take care of their business. The process sounded simple, but actually going through with the training probably wouldn't be.

"Prism, you're almost three years old now," Rainbow Dash said to her son while trotting around the living room of her cloud house. "Do you know what this means?"

"Um... no," The navy blue coated pegasus replied after thinking about it for a little bit. "What does it mean?"

"You're starting to get to that age where you no longer need to wear diapers," Soarin explained. "And after talking it over with each other, your mother and I have decided that it's time for you to learn how to use the potty."

"What's a potty?" Prism Bolt blinked, being quite puzzled by his father's answer.

"A potty is something that everypony uses!" Rainbow Dash declared. "So if you will just follow us, we'll show you what it is."

Although Prism Bolt was still confused about why he can't wear diapers anymore, he was quite curious about the potty that his parents wanted to show him. So without even protesting, he followed them down the hallway.

The bathroom was as extravagant as the rest of Rainbow Dash's house. The floor consisted mainly of clouds. And it had all the modern day plumbing fixtures in a bright blue color. On the right side was a wide bathtub which had a dark rain cloud instead of a shower head and a Wonderbolts thame shower curtain. On the other side was a sink, resting on a countertop with a wide looking vanity mirror mounted on the wall.

Before Prism Bolt even knew it, he and his parents were standing in front of a tall object that was resting in the corner. To him, it kinda looked like a strange looking chair. The bottom part of it appeared to be anchored to the cloud floor and was shaped like a bowl. The upper part had a wide looking tank with a gold, lightning bolt shaped handle on the upper left side.

"Okay, Prism," Soarin told his son. "Starting today, you're gonna be using the potty, also known as the toilet."

"Toilet?" Prism Bolt pondered as he eyed the porcelain throne in all of its glory.

"Yup!" Rainbow Dash nodded. "So for now on, if you feel like you need to go potty, just let us know and we'll bring you here."

"So, how do I use it?" The little colt asked.

"First we'll take off your diaper," Soarin instructed. "Next, you sit down on the potty. Then you just relax and do what you usually do in your diapers. Sometimes it might take a while for that to happen, so be prepared to sit here for a bit. Once you're done, either me or your mom will clean you up with some toilet paper." He pointed to the roll of toilet paper that was hanging on the wall and then picked up Prism Bolt, bringing him closer to the toilet.

"And finally comes the best part!" Rainbow Dash added. "You flush, like this." She then placed a hoof on the gold lightning bolt shaped handle and pressed it down.

FWOOSH!

Prism Bolt winced as a thunderous roar reached his ears. But what he saw next made him gasp! Looking down into the toilet, he noticed that the water in the bowl was now starting to move! It appeared to have a spinning motion to it! And it only got faster as the seconds passed! With his eyes wide open, he watched the water spin faster and faster before it swirls down a hole and disappears! There was a strange gurgling sound and then, as if by magic, the water came back.

The navy blue coated pegasus colt gulped. "That's scary." He said nervously, clearly a little frightened by what he just saw.

"I know it seems scary," Soarin replied. "A lot of foals will find the toilet to be quite frightening when somepony flushes it."

Rainbow Dash nodded in agreement and then reassured her son. "But in time you'll get used to it and learn that it's nothing to be afraid of. As long as you don't put your hooves and tail where they shouldn't be, you're perfectly safe. And it's okay if you need help at first to use it. We'll be here in case you need it."

"You should feel privileged, Prism," The pie loving stallion beamed. "Most ponies around your age don't get toilet trained right off the bat. And just think, once you're in pull-ups, you'll have a lot more fleedom."

Prism Bolt gasped. "Freedom to fly?" He asked with excitement.

"That's right!" Rainbow Dash said with a smile. "So, what do you say? You wanna try it?"

The determined little colt eagerly nodded. "Yeah!" He declared and then tried to remove his diaper all by himself, only to discover that it was hard to do.

Seeing that her son was having trouble with taking off his padding, Rainbow Dash did it for him. She then lifted him up and carefully placed him onto the toilet, making sure that his rump was properly positioned over the bowl.

As soon as he sat down on the toilet seat, Prism Bolt was surprised to learn that it was made from soft, fluffy clouds. He also noticed that his hind legs were dangling over the edge. The way he was sitting did feel strange, but nice at the same time. "So, now I just… go?" He inquired.

"Yup!" Soarin answered. "It's okay if you don't have to go right away. But you have to at least sit there for a while and try."

"But that will take forever!" Prism Bolt complained.

"I can fix that!" Rainbow Dash proclaimed with a grin on her face. She then darted out of the bathroom, only to return seconds later with a 'Daring Do' book in her hooves. "An awesome story should do the trick!"

Prism Bolt cheered with excitement and moved his hooves up and down. He was so excited that he forgot about what he was doing. Because of this, he began to lose his balance on the cloud toilet seat. Fortunately, his father came to the rescue.

"Woah, careful there, Prism!" Soarin advised, using a hoof to stop his son from falling backwards into the toilet. "You might wanna stay still while on the potty."

"Oh, sorry!" The navy blue colt apologized, trying to make himself comfortable. He then turned to his mother and asked. "Can you read the story to me, Mommy? Please?"

Rainbow Dash just chuckled. "Of course I can, my little Wonderbolt, After all, we don't want you to be too bored."

"No indeed," Soarin agreed. "Plus, this will make time fly much faster."

Without any hesitation, the cyan speedstar mare opened the book to the first page and began to read 'Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stone' aloud to Prism Bolt.

A few minutes later, Rainbow Dash had finished the first chapter of the 'Daring Do' book and was about to start the next one when her husband called her attention to something that she didn't seem to notice due to being engrossed by the book.

At some point during the reading, Prism Bolt had stopped listening to the story, and was concentrating deeply on a more pressing concern. Just as his floodgates opened, his tail hiked upward. After about a minute of pushing, his load fell into the toilet below. Some of the splashes resulted in a few drops of cold water hitting his flanks. When it came to a stop, his tail lowered and a familiar smell filled the air.

After looking down into the toilet, the little pegasus gasped. "I did it!" He happily cried.

"Awesome job, Prism!" Rainbow Dash cheered.

"And on your first try, too!" Soarin added.

"So now I get to flush, right?" Prism Bolt asked, feeling really proud of himself.

Soarin chuckled. "Not so fast, champ in the making! We gotta clean you up first," He pulled some toilet paper off from the roll and used it to clean his son's flanks before tossing it into the toilet. He then lifted the proud colt off the cloud toilet seat and brought him to the gold lightning bolt shaped handle. "Now you can flush it!" He declared.

Without any hesitation, Prism placed a hoof on the handle and pressed it down, causing the toilet to flush once again. He then watched as the water started to spin around and around. Faster and faster it went before becoming a dizzying whirlpool which sucked everything down through the hole at the bottom. Then he saw the rest of the water swirl down the drain and disappear, causing the toilet to gurgle a few times before it came back, being crystal clear once more.

"See how easy that was, Prism?" Rainbow Dash asked him afterward. "Do you like the potty now?"

Prism Bolt happily nodded. "Uh-huh! I can't wait to use it again and be a big pony like you and Dad!"

Soarin smiled as he then ushered his son towards the sink. "Well, just make sure to wash your hooves after you go potty. And from now on, just come get either your mommy or I if you think to have to go," As his son washed his hooves, Soarin then turned to Rainbow Dash and whispered. "That was easier than I thought it would be. We're pretty good with foals."

"Yeah, I guess we are." Rainbow replied as she started thinking of something. Having grown up as an only child, she could remember how lonely it had been and how much she had longed to have somepony other than just her parents to show off too until she was old enough to make friends. Even carrying Prism Bolt to term hadn't been as difficult as she had expected. So maybe it was time to start thinking about giving him a younger sibling.

Well, that would have to wait until Prism Bolt was a little further along in his potty training.
