Loguetown opening: Silhouette - KANA-BOON, Naruto Shippuden OP 16

The crew docked the Going Merry and made their way toward the city. In front of the city, there was a sign that read: 'Loguetown'. Jou had his shoulder-strap backpack around him as a smirk spread across his face as he laid on the town with its large buildings and streets packed with people, it was definitely more advanced than other islands in the East Blue. Jou had to admit it was a way nicer version of his own hometown. The crew seemed to be in agreement as excitement was on their own faces.

"This is gonna be so fun!" Luffy cheered.

"Every pirate headed to the Grand Line stopped here to resupply," Nami explained. "It has everything you could possibly need."

"If that's the case, then I'm gonna go on a shopping spree," Usopp grinned. "I bet they have all sorts of stuff here."

I'll be able to stock up on fresh produce," Sanji commented. "And fresh women," he commented with a heart floating near his head.

"I got cash," Jou chimed in. "I'm gonna search for a shop that sells telescope parts. I wouldn't be much of a Lookout if my own telescope was in poor condition." Jou turned to Zoro. "What about you, Zoro? You gonna find a place that sells swords to replace the two you lost?"

"That's what I have in mind," Zoro nodded. "I suppose I could find a swordsmith around here?" he wondered while rubbing his chin.

"I thought you were broke?" Nami smirked at the swordsman. "Are you gonna steal a sword?" Zoro seemed to ponder that idea.

"Zoro, if you want, I'll go with ya," Jou suggested. "Maybe we could find a weapon shop. I need to restock on throwing knives since I'm fresh out."

"Sure," Zoro said to Jou. "You can tag along if you want."

"Well, I'm gonna find out where they kill people," Luffy remarked with an all-too giddy smile.

"That's not exactly a normal thing for people to say, Luffy," Jou wondered with a sweat-drop.

"I gotta find where the King of the Pirates was executed!" Luffy decided and started to run further into the city

"Hey, wait!" Usopp called to him. "We have to pick a meeting place!" Usopp's warning went unheard as the straw hat continued on. "That's not good."

"He'll be fine," Jou figured with a shrug. "This seems like a good meet-up spot. How about we meet back here once we got everything? Sound good?"

"I agree," Nami nodded. "We'll all get what we need and meet back here and then after we'll just look for Luffy."

"Yeah," Usopp, Zoro, and Sanji agreed as each of the teens scattered into the city to find their own needed supplies for the journey ahead.

Jou went with Zoro as they searched through town. Zoro kept his eyes peeled for a shop that sells swords. Loguetown really did have everything you could possibly need as there were numerous sword shops but everything was out of Zoro's price range.

"Dammit, these swords all so freakin' expensive," Zoro growled as he stared at a window with expensive swords on display. Jou remembered what happened shortly before this. Nami offered to help Zoro purchase his swords and actually gave him the money for them. 100 thousand, but knowing Nami there was a price.

"Sure! I'll lend you some money! That'll just be 300% interest!" Were Nami's final words before she parted for her own shopping.

"She scammed you, man," Jou remarked to Zoro.

"Yeah, I know," Zoro sighed as he put his head down.

"Such a Nami play, am I right?" Jou commented. "I mean, who gives someone 100 thousand berri's for some swords and expects them to pay 300% interest? Next thing you know, she'll start adding more, and then you'll be in debt to Nami of all people."

"Did you tag along just to annoy me?" Zoro questioned.

"Not at all," Jou rose his hands in surrender. "I'm just trying to be helpful. Isn't that what a friend does?" Zoro rolled his eyes and started walking through town again with Jou following. The two stopped in front of a shop that Zoro found. It appeared to be a weapon shop with cutlasses crossing at the top of the entrance.

"You find a shop you want to buy swords from?" Jou asked. "Let's go in. Could be possible that hold throwing knives, too." Jou and Zoro stepped inside and found the shop that was filled with all sorts of weaponry, although it was mostly swords. "I guess this is just a sword shop. Sounds like you hit the jackpot."

"We'll see about that," Zoro replied as he and Jou approached the counter with a balding man sleeping behind it.

"Must be a slow day for business?" Jou remarked.

"I'd like to pick up some swords," Zoro stated to the sleeping man. The man snapped awake with wide eyes that fell upon Jou and Zoro.

"Of course, welcome!" the man greeted. "Have a look at anything you'd like! We have an extremely large variety to choose from!" the man turned to Jou. "And how about you? Fancy a nice sword?"

"I never got into swordsmanship," Jou mentioned rubbing the back of his neck. The man's face turned into an offensive glare.

"Then why step into a shop that primarily sells swords?"

"I was hoping you'd have knives," Jou said. "Specifically the throwing kind."

"Now you're just wasting my time!" the man exclaimed. "If you're looking for knives then go check elsewhere!"

"No need to be so pushy," Jou stated. "You like this with every potential customer? Business must be slow since you were sleeping at the counter."

"Get out if you're only here to insult my business!" the man shouted.

"Take it easy, Jou," Zoro said.

"I'm good," Jou replied to Zoro. "I guess I'll be on my way then." Jou started his way toward the door when someone ran into the shop. The person was a young woman with dark-blue hair, a pair of red glasses, and a yellow shirt with a pink-flower pattern. She nearly bumped into Jou as he stepped out of the way.

"Sorry," The girl said to Jou. "Please, excuse me." She approached the counter. "Did you finish polishing my Shigure?" Jou made his way up to Zoro and noticed the Swordsman's eyes stuck on the girl that just ran into the shop.

"Hey, man," Jou said to Zoro, trying to get his attention. "I'm getting out of here. You gonna be good on your own?"

"Kuina...?" Zoro muttered to himself.

"Ku-who? What?" Jou questioned and looked at the girl Zoro was intently gazing at. Jou smirked as he got the idea. "Oh, I see." Jou elbowed Zoro's shoulder as the Swordsman rose a brow at him. Jou nudged his own eyebrows a few times as his eyes flickered from the girl to Zoro. "She's your type then, huh? Didn't know you were into glasses?"

"What?" Zoro's cheeks became red. "I'm not into glasses!" He shouted/whispered at Jou who only rose his arms in mock surrender.

"Take it easy," Jou smiled. "If she's here in this shop then she likes swords. And you like swords, it's a perfect match." The red on Zoro's face must've been from anger now as he was shoving Jou outside. "Just ask her out for a drink or something? We probably got enough time."

"Just hurry up and go already," Zoro said.

"Okay, okay I'm going," Jou chuckled. "Just trying to be your wingman here. You know, giving romantic advice and such."

"Well, you take your "romantic advice" somewhere else," Zoro told him. "Hell, use it on Nami while you're at it."

"Right, I shou-hey, wait a minute!" Jou frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?" Jou didn't get an answer as Zoro pushed him out of the shop. Jou nearly tripped on his feet and caught himself. He fixed his shirt and adjusted his backpack and continued through town. Jou wondered what Zoro meant by 'use it on it Nami'. Jou didn't think Zoro cared about that. Zoro probably didn't but he may have noticed Jou paying a glance or two at the Navigator. Though Jou has been seeing Nami differently after the Arlong business, especially after that talk during Cocoyashi's celebrating.

Besides, wouldn't want to push my luck... Jou thought.

Jou stepped through Loguetown's crowded streets. He felt he should search for those telescope parts but didn't know the area of this town. Jou wondered maybe he should ask for directions when he found a crowd of people ahead of him. Jou was curious as to what all the commotion was about and started making his way into the crowd. Jou reached the front and found that the people who have gathered are watching a fight.

The fight was between a tall man carrying a cutlass. He had a scar across his face and wore a bandana around his head and had to be a pirate. The pirate stood across his opponent which happened to be a girl. She wore a purple leather vest with a white short-sleeved t-shirt underneath, a pair of tight blue jeans, and brown gloves. She wore a pair of dark-brown boots that seemed to have metal out-lining on the bottom sides. Sheathed on her back were a pair of kodachi. Jou took note of the girl's hair, wine-color red and it was even put into a ponytail that hangs off her right shoulder.

The hair color checks out... Jou thought. But could it really be her? It might just be a coincidence? Jou pondered holding his chin as he kept watch from the crowd.

"Your captain and that clumsy chick in the glasses are gonna pay for taking our boys in!" the pirate exclaimed as he pointed his blade with a glare. "I'll dice you up and send you back to your captain in little pieces!"

"Go ahead!" the girl retorted. "You're probably too slow to even graze me with that thing?" Jou's eyes widened once he heard the girl speak. He knew that voice and how could he forget it when it was indeed his friend that grew up with.

I had a feeling it was her! Jou thought. It's Rana!

"I'm gonna cut you down...!" the pirate leaped with his blade raised. "You little bitch!" Rana unsheathed one of her blades. Rana effortlessly avoided the first slash and ducked under a second. Rana jumped and raised her leg to deliver a back roundhouse kick to the side of the pirate's head. The power from the kick was enough to knock the man off his feet and he was twice Rana's size. The man jumped back up and with a cry, he rose his blade again. Rana, with blinding speed that was hard for a normal person to pinpoint, dashed past the pirate and sliced him across the torso as he hit the ground with a crash. With the fight over, the crowd began to clap at the impressive display.

"Amazing!"

"See how fast she moved! Incredible!"

Jou listened to the people praise his old friend and joined the clapping as well. It really was incredible as Rana has obviously gotten stronger, faster too. A pair of Marines weaved through the crowd and approached Rana.

"Excellent work, ma'am!" a marine saluted. "Are you injured?"

"Blade never touched me," Rana answered. "Take this idiot to base and lock him up."

"Yes, ma'am!/Right away, ma'am!" the Marines exclaimed together and saluted. They dragged the Pirate away as the crowd cleared out. Rana sheathed her weapon and breathed to calm herself, her hands on her hips.

"Quite the show you put on," Jou said as he approached her. "You look like you've gotten faster."

"Yeah, thanks," Rana said not even bothering to notice him. Jou folded his arms and waited for it. She brought up her head and turned to him. Her green eyes widened as her mouth dropped. Jou smirked at her reaction as he held in a chuckle that almost escaped from him.

"Jou!" Rana exclaimed.

"That's my name," Jou remarked. Rana's response was a laugh and punch to his shoulder. The old friends smiled at each other and went on a stroll through town.

"So, finally left Bouy, huh?" Rana asked.

"Yeah, took some time but I'm finally ready," Jou said.

"How's Vic?" Rana asked. "Been a while since I last saw him. Oh, and how's Ashe? I imagine she's gotten bigger, has she?"

"Vic's good," Jou stated. "Still the same old bartender we knew when we were kids. And Ashe, she's no longer that cute little puppy but she's still a loyal dog. Also, sometime after you left, Vic and I came across a pair of kids, a boy, and a girl. Their names are Nale and Dot and we took them in and raised them. Since I'm here, Vic is still taking care of them with Ashe's help, of course." Jou folded his arms. "When you left for Marine training, I was still in that troublemaker mindset, I guess those two kids made me get myself together. You know, learn to take responsibility."

"Wow, I'm almost sad I missed that," Rana smirked as Jou raised an eyebrow. "You becoming responsible."

"Yeah, yeah," Jou sighed with a shake of his head. "So, you really are a Marine now?"

"Yep," Rana nodded. "I'm a full-fledged Marine now." Jou smiled at her but it faded once he realized she has no clue he's gone Pirate. She probably doesn't know about his bounty yet, hopefully, it stays that way for now. Damn, did that sound guilty when he thought about it.

"So, you here in Loguetown by yourself?" Rana asked.

"Oh, no," Jou shook his head. "I have a crew. They're scattered around town right now."

"A crew?" Rana questioned. "How many of there are you?"

"As of right now, 6 of us," Jou answered. "Including me."

"You the captain?" Rana wondered.

"Me? No, no," Jou dismissed quickly. "I took up the role of the lookout." Jou unholstered his telescope and tossed it in the air and caught it.

"That works," Rana agreed. "It's nice you still carry that same telescope Miss Becky gave you on your 9th birthday." Rana gasped with a hand on her mouth. "Sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"Rana, it's cool," Jou assured her. "I miss my mom and I won't forget her. You don't need to be sorry."

"I know," Rana nodded. "Thanks." Jou holstered his telescope and sent a smile at Rana which she sent back at him. It was nice talking to Rana again and it still felt the same even though it's been 4 years since they lost saw each other.

"E-excuse me?" a concerned man approached them, his focus on Rana.

"What's wrong?" Rana asked.

"It's Barto!" the man exclaimed.

"You mean Bartolomeo?" Rana questioned. "That idiot never learns, does he?" she let out a sigh. "All right, I'll take care of him. Where is he now?" The man pointed in the opposite direction. "Thanks for letting me know." the man left quickly. "If it's not one thing, it's another." she sighed again. "Sorry, to cut our reunion short, Jou-"

"Hold on," Jou stopped her there. "Sounds like you need a little help."

"You know, this is my problem, right?" Rana said.

"What kind of friend would I be if left you alone for this," Jou remarked. "So, what do you say? Can I help?" Jou sent a smirk and knowing eyes were almost pleading for him Rana to let him help her. Rana sighed as her hands fell on her hips but gave a nod and smile.

"Alright, I guess it's okay to let you help," Rana stated. "Normally, I can't get a civilian involved, but since I know you can handle yourself, I suppose it's fine for you to tag along. So, Follow me." Rana ushered a hand for Jou to follow as he smiled and jogged to catch up to her.

"So, what's this guy's name again?" Jou questioned. "Barti-something...?" Jou was having trouble remembering the guy's name causing Rana to chuckle.

"His name is Bartolomeo," Rana informed. "He's a local mob boss here in Loguetown. He and his thugs are a real nuisance and cause only trouble for the people of Loguetown. Theft, muggings, hurting other citizens, and the list goes on."

"Guy sounds like a real charmer," Jou commented. "Almost like he's trying to be a Pirate."

"I wouldn't say that," Rana shook her head. "Bartolomeo is only a thug. I happen to think pirates are much worse." Jou noticed Rana's expression steel. Jou knew she definitely had a huge detest toward pirates. Jou wondered if she would end up hating him as much if she finds out about his new Pirate life and feel the same about his mother with her own Pirate past.

"That's him," Rana spoke as she kept her eyes ahead. Jou followed her gaze and saw who might very well be Bartolomeo. He was likely a young man, sporting a yellow and red vertical-stripped coat with fur around the collar, his coat opened revealing a ring tattoo with an opening on the top with wings on either side and long fangs on the bottom, brown pants with a black belt around his waist. His hair was green slicked back in a pompadour.

At least the guy's style is interesting, Jou commented in thought. Rana approached him with Jou in tow as Bartolomeo had his arms folded, leaning against the wall with his eyes closed.

"Bartolomeo," Rana said. Bartolomeo opened his eyes and saw Rana. He pushed off the wall with his arms still crossed. He had gold earrings on either ear and even sported a nose ring. He was a tall man and that towered over Jou and Rana but that didn't worry Jou, nor Rana. At first glance, he didn't look human in his face, almost monster in appearance. He glared as he showed off the sharp fangs in his mouth.

"Well, if it isn't Rana," Bartolomeo said. "The marine lapdog, or is that what they call your boss?"

"I hear you've been causing a disturbance," Rana replied. "Again." She added with irritation. "What did you do this time? You rob a shop again? Mug an innocent civilian?" Rana listed as Bartolomeo scoffed.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Bartolomeo glared.

"What will it take for you to quit?" Rana asked. "With the crap you pull, you're lucky I don't think you're even worth arresting. You're not even worth the Marine's time."

"Oh, I'm not worth their time, eh!?" Barto was set off by Rana's statement. "Why don't you step into the alley and I'll show whether or not I'm worth their time!"

"Why in the alley?" Rana wondered. "Why because your afraid people are gonna see you get beaten by a Marine, or rather a girl." Rana sounded almost like she was being smug.

"Dammit!" Barto spat. "I've had it up to here with you, bitch!" Barto hurled a straight punch at Rana who didn't dodge. Jou figured this was his time to intervene and caught Barto's fist that was aimed at Rana's face. Jou knew Rana was fast and could easily dodge but she didn't. Bartolomeo's attention was brought to Jou, gritting his sharp teeth and glaring at him. "And who the hell're you supposed to be?!"

"What's up?" Jou greeted as he kept hold of Barto's fist. "Names Jou. A friend of Rana's." Jou turned to Rana who smirked at him. "You didn't move when he tried to punch you? You get slower all of a sudden?"

"I was just checking if you were quick enough yourself," Rana stated. "Look at that. You still got great reflexes."

"I thank mom's training for that," Jou sent a smile back at her, Barto's fist still in his grasp.

"Hey!" Barto shouted. "Let me go, bastard!" He threw another punch at Jou who ducked underneath it. Rana rose her leg and swung over Jou's head and kicked Bartolomeo's face. He screamed out curses as he was sent reeling into the alley. Barto landed on his back with a skid as Jou and Rana stepped into the alley with him.

"I take you've had enough?" Rana questioned. Barto quickly leaped to his feet and wiped his mouth and sent a scowl at the two in front of him.

"You think that'd be enough to do me in?!" Barto shouted and put two fingers in his mouth and gave a loud whistle. Jou couldn't help but wonder how with the razor teeth in his mouth. A group of 5 guys stepped into the alleyway. Barto grinned as his guys made their way beside him smirking or glaring as they cracked their fists.

"This can't be his whole gang, right?" Jou wondered.

"Not at all," Rana said. "He probably had these idiots waiting on standby in case I showed up."

"I'm ready to crack a few heads if you are," Jou said as he popped his own knuckles. "How do you want to do this?"

"Don't do anything too drastic," Rana mentioned. "Other than that, take them out any way you want."

"This is when the fun begins," Jou smirked as he and Rana got ready to fight.

"Kick their asses!" Barto exclaimed at the top of this lungs as he and his guys ran toward Jou and Rana.

Jou looked at Rana, each of them nodding and running into the gang. One of the guys attacked Rana with a right hook as she ducked to avoid it and raised her leg to kick the guy square in the jaw, causing him to fall flat on his back. Another went after Jou with two stray punches. Jou dodged them both and grasped the man by the wrist and pulled the man forward and delivered his own punch in the guy's face, knocking him down. Jou avoided a punch from another guy until he felt his back hit someone. Jou turned his head to find himself back to back with Rana after she dodged a punch from Barto. Jou and Rana made eye contact and put their attention on the current fight.

Jou and Rana still back to back slowly rotated in a circle. Barto and the last 3 guys attacked altogether, Jou ducked and Rana leaped and delivered a back roundhouse to at least one of the guys' faces, sending him to the ground. While Rana knelt, Jou saw another thug attack her from behind. Jou spun on his feet and sent a back fist in the guy's mouth, causing him to scream as he fell. Rana blocked an incoming punch from Barto, who was focused on Rana to notice Jou send a right hook in the side of his face that sent Barto into the side of the building. The remaining thug ran at Jou and Rana. Jou grasped him by the neck and held him at an arm's length as Rana kicked him in the face with another roundhouse.

Jou grinned at Rana as she smiled back. They went back to back again as they found Barto and each of the 5 guys start to get onto their feet again still wanting to fight, Jou and Rana found themselves surrounded once more.

"I think they want more," Rana figured.

"Then let's give it to them," Jou answered.

Barto and his 5 thugs charged them altogether. Jou flicked his left wrist and grabbed his red chain. Jou spun his chain in a wide arc striking Barto and his thugs, knocking each of them to the ground. Rana ducked her head even before Jou grabbed his chain. The rest of the guys didn't seem to get up, but Barto was the last one still conscious. He wiped his bottom mouth as he glared at Jou. Jou swung his chain over his shoulder as he faced the mob boss.

"Not finished, eh Bartolomeo?" Jou wondered.

"You said your name was Jou, was it?" Bartolomeo asked. "I thought you were some Marine like Rana but you don't seem like the type," Jou smirked and didn't want to mention him being a Pirate, not with Rana here to hear it.

"I'm just a guy who's on a journey," Jou stated simply. "Don't know what else to tell you."

"It doesn't matter who you are, dumbass!" Barto spat. "I'm the boss of the mafia in this town!"

"I don't care if you run the whole world, jackass," Jou shook his head. "We gonna finish this or what? Rana, you mind if I..."

"By all means," Rana said with a smile and stepped back to give Jou space. Jou ran at Bartolomeo as the so-called mob boss charged him. Bartolomeo threw a few punches, each of them Jou effortlessly evaded. Jou stepped aside to avoid a final punch from Barto and wrapped his chain around one of his ankles. Jou leaped and somersaulted over Bartolomeo's head, with a pull Jou lifted him off the ground and tossed Bartolomeo into the wall causing him to hack blood.

"Had enough?" Jou asked smugly.

"You bastard..." Bartolomeo croaked. "This isn't over..." he slid off the wall and onto the ground with a crash. Rana approached Jou as the two looked around at their handiwork as Bartolomeo and his group lay about on the ground unconscious.

"Nice work!" Rana gave him a thumbs up. "All that training from Miss Becky really paid off, huh? You've gotten stronger."

"It sure did," Jou smirked. "Nice to know we still make a good team."

"We sure do," Rana grinned. "C'mon, let's get out of here. I think these bozos learned their lesson." Jou wrapped his chain around his wrist as he and Rana left the alley. "You really are strong. Think maybe I could convince you to leave your crew and join up in the marines?" Jou chuckled as he shook his head.

"Not happening," Jou remarked.

"Well, don't knock it till you try it," Rana shrugged. "I was just kidding. I wouldn't want to steal you away from this crew of yours."

"Yeah, I've actually become quite fond of them," Jou smiled. "They're a crazy bunch, but they're good people."

"You don't say?" Rana crossed her arms. "I'd like to meet them."

"Really?" Jou wondered with wide eyes.

"Sure, if you like them, then who's to say I wouldn't," Rana mentioned. Jou was honestly worried about Rana coming across the crew. He has no idea how she'll react if she finds out they're all Pirates. But wasn't going let thoughts like that ruin their reunion.

"Rana, it's great seeing you again," Jou said truthfully. "I'm heading to the Grand Line and who's telling when I'll be back. I just hope that whatever happens, you'll still consider me a friend." Rana seemed taken aback but gave him a smile.

"You're such a sap," she commented. "Of course, we'll still be friends. Before I let you go, I wanna give you something. Mind stopping back to my base with for a sec?" Jou wondered what she meant by 'give' him something. He couldn't follow her inside the Marine base but he'll go with her to see what she's got for him.

"Sure," Jou said. "Lead the way." Rana gestured for him to follow. The walk wasn't entirely long but Jou kept his eyes peeled, making sure no other Marines spotted him, the coast seemed clear. Jou followed Rana and saw a large building with the Marine logo on it.

"Here we are," Rana pointed at the building. "Wanna come inside?"

"No," Jou quickly shook his head. With how fast he shook it, Rana seemed to lift her brows at him. "If you don't mind, I'll just wait out here. If that's alright?" Rana only gave a shrug.

"Sure, if you want," Rana smiled with a nod. "I'll be back in a bit," she stated as she ran into the building. "Don't go anywhere!" she told him as she disappeared into the base.

Rana smiled as she briskly walked through the Marine base. She was happy to see Jou again after four whole years. He really has grown up since the last time she saw him but he was still the same to her. She remembered the memories they've been through together, memories Rana won't forget. Rana left to achieve her dream of becoming a Marine, capturing pirates, and making sure no one ever loses their family members ever again and Jou finally left Buoy village for the All Scope. Both of them are ready to take the next step and face new challenges. Rana meant what she said, no matter what happens, she and Jou will always be friends.

Rana recalled before she left, Jou was quite a troublemaker during their younger teen years.

Flashback:

Kusari Jou age: 15

Rana age: 15

Rana adjusted her ponytail and swung it over her shoulder as she walked into the Clam Shack. It was the afternoon and the bar was surprisingly empty. She looked around and saw no sign of Jou around.

"Vic, it's Rana!" Rana called. "You here?"

"Yeah, I'm in the back!" Vic answered from the bar's backroom as Rana stepped further inside.

"Arf! Arf!" she looked down and saw Ashe, the puppy Jou found in the woods during his training sessions.

"Hey, Ashe," Rana knelt to give the gray puppy some scratches on the head. Rana adored Ashe and thought she was the cutest thing and the puppy took a liking to Rana, too. Rana chuckled as Ashe returned the affection by licking her hand.

"Rana," Vic greeted as he appeared from the backroom.

"Heya," Rana waved. "So, where's Jou?" Rana heard Vic's sigh of exasperation as he made his way around the bar counter.

"Who knows these days," Vic shook his head. "I never know what's going on through his head."

"That bad, huh?" Rana questioned.

"I haven't seen him," Vic mentioned. "But he's probably in the village causing trouble the only way he knows how."

"Hmm?" Rana hummed and heard a commotion outside. It sounded like a mixture of people cheering and yelling. Rana had the strangest feeling that's where Jou had to be, in the middle of trouble. "I think I found him."

"Lemme guess, another fight?" Vic asked as Rana gave him an honest nod. "Stubborn kid. Some days I don't even know what to do with him. Most days I want to say to hell with it." Rana was honestly a little shocked Vic would say such a thing.

"You don't really mean that, do you?" Rana asked as Vic rubbed the back of his neck.

"Jou doesn't make it easy, but no," Vic stated. "It isn't like I can send him away since I promised Becky I'd look after him. I owe that to her. Can you get him and bring him back here? And if you don't mind, maybe clean him up beforehand while you're at it."

"Yeah, I got it," Rana said. "I'll drag him out of another fight for the millionth time now." that comment was an exaggeration on Rana's part. "I'll get him." Rana started headed out of the Clam Shack and saw Ashe start to follow her. "You wanna come with me, Ashe?"

"Arf!" Ashe barked in response.

"Okay," Rana smiled at the puppy. "Come along then, let's go get your dumb owner."

Rana found Jou and brought him to her home where she lived with her grandma. Grandma Erin passed away this year. It was a sad time for Rana. Her grandmother was all she had left since her parents were killed in a pirate raid. Luckily, Rana wasn't alone, Jou was around to comfort her when he wasn't getting into pointless scraps. Speaking of him getting into a fight, Rana was softly rubbing a cotton ball on whatever bruises he obtained. She's done this quite a few times after he got into a fight and usually was met with resistance from him.

"Could you be more careful!" Jou winced.

"Tell that to yourself," Rana retorted. "And quit squirming!" She held his chin to keep him from flinching and moved his bangs out of the way and placed a bandage over the bruise on his cheek. He might need a haircut soon with how long his hair is becoming. "Okay tough guy, all done," Rana told him and started packing up the medical kit she had. "You're welcome."

"Yeah," Jou murmured as he looked at the ground.

"I can't keep doing this for you, you know?" Rana asked.

"Doing what for me?" he questioned

"Cleaning you up after you get into a fight," Rana stated. "What was it about this time?"

"Guy was just being a jackass," Jou scoffed.

"And that's your reason to start throwing punches?" Rana wondered.

"Guy wouldn't back off," Jou mentioned. "So I decked him." What a terrific reason to start a fight.

"Look, Jou..." Rana folded her arms. "I'm leaving for Marine training soon."

"Fine, go," Jou said as he leaned against the chair. "Go ahead and leave," he muttered as he kept his head turned. "That's what everyone does anyway..."

"Say that again?" Rana questioned. Rana heard what he said, she just wanted to make sure he realizes what he said.

"Nothing," Jou shook his head. "It's wrong for me to say that. Being a Marine is something you've always wanted. To honor your parents, right?"

"Yeah, for them," Rana nodded. "I'm doing it for them. So I have to do this." Rana was surprised to find Jou smirking at her. "What's that look for?"

"It's nothing," Jou stated. "I'm just happy for you, Rana. I won't stop you from following your dream. Who am I to stand in your way?" Rana grinned as she thought of an idea.

"So, how about you come and join the Marines with me?" Rana asked. "Sounds good, huh?" Jou rose his eyebrows at her as he chuckled shaking his head.

"Not a chance" Jou wondered. "I'm no good at following orders anyhow." Rana smiled at him, Jou may have dismissed the idea but it would be fun for Rana. The two of them defeating Pirates would be amazing and they make a great team whenever they fight together but it was never going to happen.

"Sure, sure," Rana shrugged. "Now, we're gonna move on to something else."

"And what's that?" Jou questioned as Rana pulled out a pair of scissors.

"I think it's time you had a haircut," Rana figured with a smirk. "It's too long and it obviously gets in your face."

"I don't need a haircut," Jou tried to stand up and Rana pushed him back into the seat.

"Yes you do," Rana told him. "Look at this." she grabbed his bangs. "I think Ashe would agree with me, right Ashe?" the puppy was curled up on the floor, with her eyes closed. The only response she gave was a quiet yawn.

"Ha!" Jou gave a short chuckle. "Looks like she doesn't agree with you."

"She's just sleeping," Rana retorted with a hand on her hip. "I'm not gonna cut it all off. Just enough so it isn't blocking your eyes and I'll even trim it a bit in the back."

"Fine," Jou sighed. "Guess it can't hurt." Rana smiled as she started to remove Jou's beanie and began cutting his hair. It was nice to spend time talking to Jou like this because who knows when Rana will be able to once she leaves.

But she has a feeling she'll see him again...

"Pardon me, ma'am!" a Marine called her which brought her out of her memory. The marine saluted her. "It's important that I speak to you now."

"Walk and talk, soldier," Rana told him. "I'm in a hurry."

"Ma'am," The marine ran to catch up to her. Rana kept her stride and reached her quarters in the marine base. She unlocked the door and grabbed what she was looking for. Rana grabbed a rectangle-shaped box and left out her door and found the same marine that followed her.

"What's so important you need to talk about?" Rana questioned. "Make it quick 'cause I gotta meet a friend."

"Of course, Sergeant," the Marine nodded. "Have you seen the new wanted posters?"

"I haven't had a chance to yet," Rana said as she didn't have a clue there were new bounties already.

"Take a look at this," the Marine showed the poster. "This one is for Monkey D. Luffy. 'Straw hat' is what he's called. He's worth 30 million." Rana tucked the box underneath her arm and took the flyer from the Marine.

"Monkey D?" Rana repeated and looked at the picture of the kid in the photo with the big grin on his face.

"That's right, ma'am."

Still though, 'Monkey D'? Rana thought. Could he be related to 'him'? No way. With how 'he' is there's no way he would let a relative of his become a Pirate. Gotta just be a coincidence.

"30 million, huh?" Rana eyed the amount. "Bounty hunters must be tripping over each other to capture this kid."

"He's been spotted here in Loguetown, Sergeant," the Marine added. Rana handed the Marine the poster.

"Well, he won't get away," Rana assured. "Not when Captain Smoker's in town. Pirates have tried to fight or escape from him, none succeeded as the Captain always captures them, one way or another. I'll be leaving now."

"Wait, ma'am! I gotta show the other-"

"Show me later!" Rana waved as she stepped down the hall.

"But this other one..." the Marine murmured as he stared at the other wanted poster of Kusari Jou.

Jou kept his arms crossed as he waited for Rana to return. He saw marines headed outside the base and hid from them. Luckily, they didn't notice him or haven't seen his poster yet. Jou was getting anxious but kept his cool and waited for Rana to return with whatever she had for him. Jou felt whatever gift she had, he didn't deserve it. Not when he's a Pirate without her even knowing and it made him feel guilty.

Little too late for guilt now, Jou thought.

"I'm back!" Rana called as she ran to him with a happy smile on her face with a wave. Jou grinned back and saw she had a box in her hands.

"Took ya long enough," Jou remarked. "Is that what you want to give me?"

"Sure is," Rana nodded and put the box in his hands. "C'mon, open it." Jou knelt and placed the box on the ground. He opened it and found something wrapped in a cloth. He removed the wrap and inside found a pair of black combat boots. They were similar to the ones he already wore but these were different. They had some sort of metal along the bottom sides that circled around them. Jou picked up one of the boots and found that a sort of metal inlay was laced underneath the sole.

"I didn't really need a new pair of boots, but these are nice," Jou commented. "What's the metal made from?"

"A special kind," Rana mentioned. "Ever heard of Sea-Prism Stone?" Jou shook his head as he's never heard of it before. "It's a special metal. You know, they say when Devil-Fruit uses fall into to the sea it takes away the use of their abilities. This metal gives the same effect as what the ocean does to them."

"I see..." Jou said as he looked at the boots. They're nice boots and they're a gift. He'll just have to make sure Luffy doesn't touch them. "Rana, how much did these cost you?" He had to know as they couldn't have been cheap.

"Why do you ask?"

"Just tell me," Jou wanted to know.

"They..." Rana sighed. "They actually cost me quite a bit, especially as a special order."

"Then I can't accept these..." Jou said. "Not when I have nothing to give you in return." Rana knelt on her knees and touched Jou's hand. Jou's eyes widened as he saw Rana giving him a smile.

"Please just take them," Rana pleaded. "I was thinking of you when I made the order." Jou stared at her hand on his, she all too quickly pulled it back. She almost seemed bashful which was surprising coming from her, but Jou decided to make no comment. "The Grand Line is full of dangers, Devil Fruit users being one of them. So I was thinking these could give you an edge against them. I got some in my own boots, too. Please, do me a favor and take them."

Jou stared at the boots as Rana was practically begging him to use them. Jou grabbed both boots and stood to try them on. He removed his previous pair of combat boots and placed them in his backpack and tugged on the new ones. He found they were a perfect fit, surprised to find they were exactly his size.

"What do you think?" Rana asked.

"They'll take some getting used to," Jou told her. "But I'm sure they'll help me out. Thank you so much, Rana." Jou claimed with a grateful smile.

"It's no problem," Rana smiled back. "What are friends for? So, I take it you'll be heading away from Loguetown now?"

"No, not yet," Jou replied. "I'm sure my crew is still occupied with their own shopping. Hell, I haven't even finished my own yet."

"In that case, I'll find you once you start heading out," Rana nodded. "I'll see you later then."

"Yeah, later," Jou said with a wave as Rana gave a final smile and left down the street. Jou watched her leave. He won't forget Rana's kindness. Jou felt bad hoping she didn't find out about the new lifestyle he's chosen. It was probably wishful thinking she would still see him as a friend. Jou remembered Coby and how he wanted to be a Marine and he's still wanted to be friends with Luffy. Maybe Jou and Rana can make that work if she isn't still upset about what happened in their past. He'll worry about it later, or maybe soon. Jou decided to get a move on and finally get back his shopping.

Jou made his way through the Loguetown's streets. He hoped he can find a place to purchase telescope parts and soon. He didn't know the layout of the town and felt it best to ask for directions. Jou walked past an alleyway and at the corner of his eye saw something or rather someone. Jou stopped walking altogether and saw a tall figure, a man. His face was obscured by a grey hood and cloak, arms crossed with his back against the wall. Jou approached him but the man didn't move, though Jou noticed he slightly move his head in his direction.

"Hey," Jou said. "Sorry to bother you, but could you point me in the direction of a shop that specifically sells parts for a telescope?" The man didn't say a word but he somewhat acknowledged him and gave a nod.

"I might've," the man mentioned. "Think there's one down the path up there. Just look to your right. Can't miss it."

"Is that so?" Jou wondered as he looked down the street. "I'll find it. Thanks." Jou started to make his way down the path.

"You're into telescopes?" the man questioned Jou as he was about to leave.

"Huh?" Jou mouthed as he turned back to the mystery man. "Sure, I guess you could say that. I just want to keep my own scope right here in working order." Jou patted the holstered telescope on his left hip. "Well, bye now." Jou waved as the man gave a hint of a smirk. Jou left to find the shop and turned to find the man nowhere in sight as if he vanished.

"Hmm?" Jou hummed. "Strange guy," he commented and kept down the path. Jou whilst looking around found a bright-colored building and found a place called "Of Scopes & Stuff". The sign said just as advertised with a telescope and binoculars above and below the words respectively.

"I think I found it," Jou commented. He stepped in as a bell rang once he opened the door. Jou saw all sorts of telescopes of varying shapes and sizes and noticed binoculars, too. They were set up on racks, display cases with pricing labels attached.

"Well, hey there!" a voice exclaimed. "Welcome to my shop!"

Jou brought his attention to the man at the front of the counter. The man looked to be in his early 40's sporting a faded haircut, he was a thin man and wore a pair of black sunglasses with lenses shaped like triangles. Jou wasn't one to judge but the way the man smirked as he approached the counter made him seem a bit... sketchy.

"Yeah, how's it going today, sir?" Jou asked.

"Please, no need to be formal," the man replied in a rough, scratchy voice. "Trian is my name."

"Okay, Trian," Jou nodded. "I see you sell telescopes here."

"You bet I do!" Trian exclaimed. "Sell 'em, trade 'em! Telescopes, binoculars! The best money can buy!"

"Well, sounds like I found the right place," Jou smirked as Trian chuckled. "You see, I'm going on a big adventure and I need parts for my own telescope. I already got tools to repair it."

"By the way, your telescope?" Trian wondered. "Mind if I take a look?"

"I don't have a problem with it, but why?" Jou questioned as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"It'll only take a moment," Trian promised. "But please?"

"Alright," Jou said as he was willing to trust Trian. Jou reached for his scope and handed it to the man. Trian seemed to give Jou's telescope a thorough examination. He extended it and rotated it in his hands, he looked through its glass directly in Jou's face. Jou rose a curious eyebrow as to what he had in mind when doing this.

"There's nothing wrong with it is there?" Jou wondered.

"Of course not," Trian assured. "But upon inspection, this is a very rare telescope." Jou didn't think his telescope was rare even though the day he got it, his mom mentioned there was nothing like in the whole world. "How'd you come by it?"

"It was a gift from my mom," Jou explained. "I got it when I was 9, so I've had it for a while."

"How did she get it?" Trian questioned.

"Not sure," Jou shook his head. "Couldn't tell you. Though, she may have come across it during her own travels back then. Anyway, think I can get those parts?"

"Right, sorry about that," Trian quickly handed Jou his telescope as he stuffed it in his holster.

"Be right back with those parts," Trian said and ran into the door behind him and came back with the parts for Jou's telescope.

"Just perfect," Jou commented. He reached for his own wallet for the cash he had on him. Jou didn't exactly pack any cash with him. How can someone forget something important like any money? The cash was actually a little gift from Vic, Jou honestly would have told him to keep it for the bar or for the kids. Jou found it stuffed in his backpack below whatever else he packed.

It's just like Vic to pull something like that, Jou thought with amusement.

"Thanks," Jou nodded as he placed all the berri's he had on the counter. He wasn't sure how much the parts costs but Trian accepted the money. Jou wondered if he should save his own money for the journey, it wouldn't be a bad idea considering Nami's trying to scam Zoro. That poor boy.

"Pleasure doing business with you," Jou smirked. "Have a good day."

"Hold a moment!" Trian called as Jou was about to leave. Jou rose an eyebrow at what caused the shopkeeper to act like this.

"Something the matter...?" Jou wondered.

"I just couldn't help but notice you have an extra pouch there?" Trian asked gesturing his head to Jou's pouch on his right hip.

"Oh, this?" Jou opened the empty pouch. "It's a holster for knives. The throwing kind. I gotta look for those elsewhere since this shop is for telescopes."

"Well, here's the thing..." Trian gestured a hand for Jou to lean closer. "I'm not only in the business of telescopes," he whispered. "I'm also in what you would call a 'Black Market'."

"Black Market...?" Jou repeated. "I knew there was something sketchy about you." That comment caused Trian to give a smirk. "Look, I don't know what game you're trying to pull but-"

"No game!" Trian exclaimed. "Now, wait right there!" he pointed at Jou. "You want knives you can throw, I'll give you some!" Trian dashed into the backroom. Jou heard lots of shuffling around as Trian searched for what he was going to give him.

"Alright, where are they?!" Trian's voice could be heard from the room. A stray hand ax was tossed out the room as Jou instinctively caught it with one hand. "Nope, not it!" The next object that came flying out at Jou was a sword, a cutlass flying tip first at Jou. He ducked under it causing it to become lodged in the wall behind him. Jou put the hand ax on the counter and plucked the cutlass out of the wall. "Beautiful! Here they are!" Trian returned from the room with a large pouch. He noticed Jou place the cutlass on the counter.

"What's that doing out here?" Trian questioned. "Why do you have that?"

"You just threw it at me!" Jou exclaimed with shark teeth.

"I did?" Trian said with a tilt of the head. His cluelessness caused Jou's eye to twitch. "Anyway, here we are. Feast your eyes on these!" Trian pulled open the pouch to reveal a 40-set of throwing knives. The knives themselves looked well made but Jou thought he should at least take a look at them.

"Mind if I hold one?" Jou asked.

"By all means," Trian nodded.

Jou pulled one of the knives from the pouch. The knives had a basic design but looked different than the ones Vic gifted to him. The blade was silver and had a nice shine which revealed how brand-new they were and jet-black handles. Jou flipped and tossed it to get a feel of the weight from the knife.

"What do you think?" Trian wondered.

"Not bad," Jou remarked as he kept tossing the knife and caught it. "They feel light. Almost as if I'm holding nothing at all."

"So, where are you adventuring to?" Trian said.

"I'm actually headed out of the East Blue," Jou mentioned. "Going to the Grand Line."

"Lot's a people are headed there," Trian stated. "To find Gold Roger's treasure. Pirates heading there to search for the One Piece. Are you a Pirate?"

"I am," Jou said. "Just started as one a few weeks ago. I even managed to get a bounty. Just 25 million though."

"25 million?" Trian questioned. "If that's true, that makes you the highest bounty in the East Blue?"

"Not even," Jou shook his head. "That title belongs to my captain. He's got 30 million."

"Then he must be quite an interesting fellow himself," Trian chuckled.

"You can say that again," Jou agreed. "Alright, you've convinced me." Jou tucked the knife into the pouch. "I'll take the knives but I just gave you all the money I had."

"Say no more, they're all yours," Trian said. "Free of charge."

"You're just giving them to me?" Jou asked and hoped Trian wasn't going to try and trick him.

"Sure, I honestly root for up-and-coming rookie Pirates like you and your captain," Trian remarked. "Although, the only one I can see not being your biggest fan would be Captain Smoker?"

"Smoker?" Jou repeated. "He must have had a fun childhood."

"Don't count him out," Trian warned. "That mad dog is dangerous, especially to Pirates. If he catches wind about you and your captain, he'll capture you before you could even try to leave town. He's a Devil Fruit user which makes him even more dangerous for Pirates like you."

"Really?" Jou wondered. He also thought if this Captain Smoker had to be Rana's superior. Jou put the pouch in his backpack and closed his bag. "Thanks a lot for the parts and... the knives." Jou nodded in thanks toward Trian. "They'll definitely be used."

"Yep," Trian smirked. "Good luck in the Grand Line! I'll be rootin' for ya!"

"Thanks," Jou grinned as waved bye to Trian and left the store. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Jou got quite a few things out of coming to Loguetown. He reunited with Rana and she gave him a pair of boots with metal that weakens Devil Fruit users, he went into Trian's store and bought telescope parts, and Trian gave him a set of new throwing knives. Things are looking pretty good for Jou at this point.

But Jou felt an aching feeling that things were about to escalate for his and the crew's time in Loguetown. Things don't just turn out this good, there's always something bound to happen.

And Jou knew he had to be ready for it.

After leaving Trian's shop, Jou wandered down the Loguetown's streets. He couldn't help but notice a crowd amassing in the street. People must seem to really enjoy random events that happen in this town. Jou was curious what this crowd had to be for and started to wove through it. Without looking where he was going, he bumped into someone while in the crowd.

"Sorry, didn't mean to-" Jou looked at the person and saw none other than Nami with a huge sack over her shoulder and carrying a few shopping bags in her other hand. "Hey, Nami." Jou grinned with a wave.

"Hi, Jou," Nami smiled. "You find everything you needed?"

"I sure did," Jou nodded. "I see you've been busy." He took note of all the stuff she was carrying. "I assume those are all filled with clothes?"

"Sure are," Nami stated proudly. "Just bought a lot of cute new outfits."

"Good for you," Jou replied. "You didn't end up buying an expensive dress, did you?" Jou wondered with a raised brow.

"Of course not," Nami scoffed. "What good would an expensive dress do me while I'm navigating our course across the sea?" Nami gave a bit of a teasing smirk. "Do you want me to wear a dress while navigating?" Jou had to ponder that thought for a moment until he shook his head.

"Depends on the dress, but no," Jou stated. "Then again, why limit yourself to only a dress? Try wearing a swimsuit while navigating, then again, that'll just give Sanji an excuse to well, you know, ogle at you."

"Well, I only bought clothes that go well with sea-fairing and climate change," Nami stuck her tongue at him. Her lips curled into a smile. "Although, I did in fact buy a few swimsuits. You know, for sun-bathing. So, if you noticed the crowd I take it you know what's going on, too?"

"I don't," Jou shook his head. "That's why I came to check it out. What's got everyone all excited?"

"Well, you ever heard of Daddy the Father?" Nami asked with a knowing smile. Hearing that name caused Jou's eyes to widen in surprise.

"You mean THE Daddy the Father?" Jou questioned and grinned. "Of course, I know. Everybody here in East Blue's heard about him. He's a former Marine and gun-slinging legend and has never lost one duel in his entire career a bounty-hunter."

"Well, let's hope he doesn't spot you and capture you," Nami reminded Jou as he's the one with the bounty on him other than Luffy.

"He can try," Jou chuckled. "Assuming I can escape quickly enough." Jou and Nami started pushing their way through the crowd to see who Daddy the Father was challenging to duel. "Boy, do I feel sorry for the poor bastard that taking on Daddy the Father."

"I know, right," Nami agreed as they reached the front of the crowd. "What kind of idiot..." She paused once she saw who the surprise challenger was. Jou noticed, too, and saw their own sniper standing back-to-back with Daddy the Father. Jou noticed Usopp was shaking from complete fear with drops of sweat pouring down his head.

"Oh, that kind," Nami deadpanned.

"Oh, boy..." Jou could not help but face-palm. Jou wondered just how does Usopp get himself into these kinds of situations.

"Good luck, Long Nose!" A bystander shouted.

"We gotta hole dug for ya already!" a second exclaimed. "So relax!" Jou saw the nerves in Usopp had to have set in as more sweat streamed down his head. He looked as if he were about to pass out before the duel even started.

"Simple rules," Daddy the Father stated. "Walk 10 paces and fire."

"O-okay," Usopp croaked out.

"What the hell are you doing!" Nami shouted at him. Usopp turned his head and noticed her and Jou in the crowd.

"Nami, Jou!" Usopp called.

"It looks like your facing Daddy the Father in a duel!" Nami yelled at him with shark teeth. "Are you nuts?!"

"You're not helping!" Usopp shouted back. "You never have anything nice to say!"

"Jou!" Nami called him but Jou didn't take his eyes away from the upcoming duel, his arms crossed over his chest. "You gotta stop this before that idiot gets himself killed!" She tried to reason but Jou never took his attention from the duel. "Are you even listening to me!"

"Nami..." Jou spoke but didn't pay her a glance. "This is a duel. Interfering would be wrong. There's nothing we can do about it. We just let the cards fall where they may."

"But, he could die...!" Nami continued to argue. Jou wasn't going to try and force Nami to understand. Yes, something could happen to Usopp but Jou understood the importance of a duel. In a fight between two combatants, the one left standing can be declared the victor. Jou was concerned about their friend and wondered just what transpired before that put Usopp in this position.

"You get one shot!" a young girl announced. "Are you ready?" Jou didn't know the girl's name but he heard Daddy Masterson had a kid.

Of course, 'the father', Jou thought while holding in a chuckle. No time for laughing as this situation was serious.

If there was tension in the air, it was definitely there. The crowd watched in quiet anticipation. Nami had a worried expression but Jou held the same straight face as he silently waited for the duel to start. Daddy's face was calm while poor Usopp looked about ready to wet himself as Daddy the Father's daughter started to count down.

"1..." the girl counted as Daddy and Usopp took their first steps, Usopp nearly falling when he took his. "2..." she counted again. "3...4... 5... and 6... 7... 8..."

It was getting close to the 10th step as Usopp turned and tossed his Smoke Star that erupted and covered his escape with a cloud of smoke and started to run. Jou's eyes widened when he saw Daddy fire his gun into the smoke. Jou heard Nami gasp in worry and noticed Daddy had shot the pistol out of Usopp's hand, the weapon clattering to the ground. The smoke cleared as Usopp fell on his knees.

"Papa, that was awesome!" Daddy's daughter cheered as she ran to him. "You're the best!"

"That was just pathetic," A man commented.

"What a loser," Another remarked.

The dissatisfied crowd left the area. Jou and Nami stayed as they watched Usopp who was still on his knees. Jou wondered if Usopp must feel ashamed of himself after he tried to escape from none other than Daddy the Father.

"I just shot the cowards gun away," Daddy mentioned.

"What were you thinking?!" Daddy's daughter exclaimed at Usopp. "Have you no shame? Cheating during a duel? You should be ashamed of yourself! It's pathetic!"

"I'm so sorry!" Usopp pleaded. "Forgive me! I'm just really too scared to die this young! Killing me would be too easy for you, right?! So, please don't shoot me!" Usopp begged Daddy the Father. "You could just let me go! Couldn't you?"

Daddy seemed like he wasn't satisfied with the outcome of the duel. He pointed his pistol at Usopp, who leaned from the weapon aimed at him. Jou stayed in his exact spot but Nami intervened at this point.

"No, wait!" Nami said as she got in front of Usopp.

"Nami..." Usopp breathed in relief. "If you want money? My friend here has tons she can give you." Nami looked at the sniper in surprise. I'm begging you, sir! Please, spare me!"

"What the hell...?" Nami questioned.

"If I might interject here..." Jou spoke deciding it was time to insert himself in the situation.

"Jou...?" Usopp said as he saw him.

"Hey, there," Jou waved at Daddy Masterson, the man only gave him the same steely expression. "Big fan of your work. Look, I don't rightly know why you're challenging our friend here but if he annoyed in some way, that's alright, he's only a harmless idiot. There's no reason for him to die for it."

"Hey!" Usopp shouted angrily but quickly reverted back to scared. "That's right, you don't! I am an idiot!" he quickly agreed. "So, please just spare me!" Jou noticed Daddy Masterson continue to stare at him down. Jou started to become a little uneasy from the man's gaze but kept calm even if the man was a little intimidating.

"I've seen you before," Daddy reached into his cloak and pulled a stack of wanted posters. He pulled out one from the stack and looked at it and Jou. Jou figured as much as Daddy held the poster out and revealed it to be Jou's wanted poster. "This is you, right?"

"Y-yep," Jou stammered out. "Surprise." Jou waved both his hands with an awkward laugh like he's been caught red-handed already.

"So, he's another bad guy...?" Daddy's daughter wondered as she looked at Jou. "Are you going to capture him, Daddy?"

"I haven't decided yet, sweetheart," Daddy replied to his daughter.

"Well, I wouldn't say I'm a bad guy..." Jou stated as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I have quite the amount put out on me, huh?"

"T-that's right!" Usopp spoke out. "He's worth 25 million berri's! You don't want me! I'm not worth anything!"

"You idiot...!" Nami hissed at the cowering sniper. "Are you trying to get him to go after Jou instead?!"

"So, now you're cowering behind your friends, huh?" Daddy asked Usopp.

"Hey, maybe we could-" Jou tried to reason but he and Nami were suddenly shoved out of the way by Usopp, who stood in front of Daddy.

"What're you doing?" Jou questioned the sniper. Jou noticed the determined look on Usopp's face as he stared at Daddy the Father.

"Leave them outta this!" Usopp declared. "They have nothing to do with it! I'm the one that got myself into this situation and nobody can get me out of it! It's all on me!"

"Usopp..." Jou and Nami said together.

"Please, just leave Jou and Nami out of it!" Usopp insisted.

"Usopp?" Daddy mouthed. "Did they just call you Usopp?"

"Yes," Usopp answered.

"You wouldn't happen to know a man by the name of Yasopp of the Red-Haired Pirates, would you?" Daddy questioned.

"Yasopp?" Usopp repeated. "That's my Dad's name, Wait, are you saying that you and my father are friends?"

"Then you are his son," Daddy realized.

"Papa?" Carol questioned as she looked at her father.

"I met your Dad," Daddy mentioned. "I've never spoken a single word to anyone about that faithful day until now that is.

"I'm sensing a story coming," Jou remarked with folded arms. "You about to share it with us?" Daddy's only response was a nod as he continued his story.

"We met on a hot, dry port of calm on a day very much like today," Daddy started to tell the story. Long ago, Daddy Masterson challenged Yasopp to a duel. Daddy lost the duel and got wounded which made Yasopp the victor of the duel. Daddy begged Yasopp to finish him, but Yasopp didn't go through with it when he found he had Carol. Yasopp felt it was too late to be there for Usopp, but felt it best for Carol to have her father by her side.

"That's quite the tale," Jou stated. "That's why you left the marines and decided to take up bounty hunter work."

"It all makes sense now," Nami nodded.

"Papa, no!" Carol cried. "A pirate didn't spare your life! Tell me it's not true! Tell me you killed him, right?" Carol didn't want to accept the truth that her father lost in a duel with a pirate.

"Usopp, wow!" Nami smiled. "Your father must've been amazing! He beat Daddy the Father! He hasn't forgotten you either. Even now he's traveling somewhere in the sea, he has an image of his little toddler boy that he left behind." Usopp put an arm out stop Nami.

"Usopp?" Nami wondered. Jou noticed Usopp started crying. The story about his father may have set the emotions he was feeling inside.

"It's okay," Jou told him. "There's no need for tears."

"Yeah, we understand." Nami agreed.

"There's no way that you could," Usopp claimed. "That's not why I'm crying, there's more to it! I get it! I understand why you tell me that story about my father! You told me that so I would try to be more like him!" Carol who was hugging her father, stared at Usopp with a look of confusion.

"You embarrassed yourself for me!" Usopp said to Daddy. "You put yourself beneath me so I would know what type of man my father was! I'll never forget that! Most people would just bury that story and just never tell it to anyone!" Daddy only stared and let Usopp continue. "But you... you're not afraid of anything! Even shame... a coward would never do what you did!" Jou, as well as Nami were astonished by Usopp's speech. Jou gave a proud smile as the sniper spoke, hearing the conviction in his voice.

"Carol..." Usopp said to the young girl. "Your Dad is the bravest man alive! Men who are big and strong are easy to find but the ones who put their honor on the line for others are one and a million!" Usopp wiped the tears from his tears. "I can't! If I accept your Dad's mercy, it'll only bring him more shame, I have one choice and that is to face my death!" Usopp looked Daddy in the eyes. "Give me another chance? I have to prove myself that I'm not a coward. A life or death fight." Daddy and Usopp stared at each other and Daddy gave the young sniper his wish.

"Alright," Daddy agreed. "Choose the weapon you feel most comfortable with, this will be our final duel." Usopp reached in his satchel for his slingshot.

"Good speech," Jou nodded. "Got me a little emotional there. I know Usopp said he wants a life or death fight, but what say we raise the stakes a little."

"Jou...?" Nami questioned. "What're you saying?"

"If Usopp loses, you can take me," Jou told Daddy the Father.

"What!" Nami exclaimed. "That's insane! You can't be serious!"

"Jou, no!" Usopp argued. "Stay outta this! This is my fight!"

"I'm doing this because I believe in you, Usopp," Jou told him. "If Luffy were standing right here, right now. He'd believe in you, too."

"F-fine," Usopp nodded at Jou. "You asked for it. Don't put blame on me if I miss, Jou."

"You better not miss!" Nami exclaimed with hands on her hips.

"I won't," Jou told Usopp. "Will these terms be okay?" Jou looked at Daddy the Father.

"I had no interest in capturing you..." Daddy stated. "But if you're that eager to put yourself on the line for your friend, who am I deny that." Jou smiled at the bounty hunter.

"Glad you agreed to this," Jou said. "And think about it, 25 million is a lot here in the East Blue. You can buy something nice for your daughter there." Jou gestured to Carol. "As she's the most important to you, right?"

"That's right," Daddy agreed and pulled out a pair of shackles from underneath his cloak. "Carol..." he handed the shackles to his daughter. Jou removed his chains off his wrist and handed them to Nami and noticed the glare she was giving him.

"I know," Jou sighed at her. "I can tell your upset."

"Of course I am," Nami huffed. "Are you putting that much on Usopp? He has to be feeling pressured enough as is."

"But now he's got more to fight for," Jou stated. "His life and my freedom."

"I..." Nami stared him in the eyes. Jou wondered if she wanted to tell him something. "I really don't get you," she remarked with a sigh and turned her head. Jou smirked in response and handed his chains to Nami.

"Funny, I can say the same about you," Jou retorted. He knelt down to Carol's level as she clasped the shackles on his wrist. He noticed the resentful look on her face as she avoided eye contact. "Don't worry about a thing, Carol."

"Hmm?" Carol wondered as she looked at him.

"None of this is your fault," Jou said. "Don't feel bad either. After all, I am a 'bad guy', remember?" Jou reminded with a smile.

"It's not that..." Carol sniffed. "None of this would be happening if I didn't try to take those goggles Usopp wanted..." Jou had no idea this whole thing was happening over goggles.

"Well, Usopp's my friend," Jou nodded. "And I trust my friends." Carol finished hooking the shackles on Jou's wrist. Jou noticed Carol put something in his hand which caused his eyes to broaden. Jou stood and shook the shackles secured around his wrist. "Okay, they're on. Let the duel commence."

"Good," Daddy said. "Now, let's see..." Daddy looked around, likely finding a target for Usopp to hit. He pointed at a building across town. "You must hit that weather vane." Jou turned his head and saw the weather vane designed like a whale wearing a crown atop a pointed blue roof.

"What...?" Usopp wondered as he saw the selected target. "That...!?" Daddy pointed his pistol at the sniper.

"If you miss..." Daddy started.

"Right," Usopp nodded. "You'll shoot me through the heart."

"Usopp...?" Nami said worriedly. Jou placed a reassuring hand on the navigator's shoulder. "Jou?" She wondered as she turned to him.

"Hey, Usopp?" Jou got the sniper's attention. "You got this. You can do it. I'm sure if Luffy were here right now, he'd say the same."

"Yeah," Usopp agreed as his expression steeled and looked at the weather vane. "So this shot determines whether I live or die with honor and Jou's freedom." Usopp pulled his goggles over his eyes and aimed at the weather vane with his slingshot.

"He can't..." Carol's voice shook. "There's no way he can shoot that far with a slingshot?"

Usopp pulled back the sling and started lining his shot toward the weather vane. Jou remained calm with his wrist bound by the shackles and Nami's expression remained worried. Carol was worried herself with her hands clasped. Daddy kept his gun trained on Usopp as the sniper continued trying to keep his arm steady for his shot.

I know you can do this, Usopp, Jou thought.

Everyone present for this remained quiet as the air was tense as Usopp released his sling. The pellet Usopp let go of seemed to have flown past the weather vane and missed the target.

"You... missed..." Nami stammered.

"Only one way to find out," Jou stated beside her. Jou brought his eyes to his telescope as Nami took that as her sign to pull it from his holster and verify if Usopp hit the target. Carol quickly ran to her father and hugged him.

"Please, don't kill him, Papa!" Carol pleaded. "Please no!"

"I can't shoot him because he shot right through the crown," Daddy stated as he put his gun down.

"Well, I'll be damned," Jou smirked. "How about it, Nami?"

"Yeah, he did!" Nami exclaimed excitedly while looking through Jou's telescope. "You did it, Usopp! He's right!" Jou squinted his eyes to find Usopp had indeed shot a small hole through the weather vane's crown.

"Haha!" Jou chuckled. "See that, Usopp? I knew you could do it!" At this point, Jou was no longer hand-cuffed and was now spinning the shackles around his finger. Jou side-glanced at Nami with a smirk as she smiled at him. Her grin faded when she noticed him twirling the shackles.

"Hey, how did you get out of those...?" Nami wondered.

"Oh, you mean these?" Jou remarked smugly. "I have my ways." Jou decided to be secretive about the fact that Carol had, in fact, snuck a key in his hand after she bound him. Jou didn't question why she had the key but he supposed she wanted to give Jou a chance if Usopp didn't hit the target.

"Good job!" Carol praised Usopp as he fell on his knees.

"You're as good a shot as your old man," Daddy the Father himself even praised Usopp. "And brave one as well. Your father will be proud, go to the Grand Line. You'll find him there." Usopp was stunned by the words Daddy said to him. "He deserves to see what his son has become." Daddy stated and started walking away.

"Daddy...?" Usopp mouthed as Carol ran to Usopp.

"You're a pretty good shot, old man," Carol remarked and handed Usopp the pair of goggles.

"Thanks," Usopp murmured. The young girl only smiled in response and ran to catch up to her father.

"Later!" The girl called in farewell. "Wait, papa!"

"Now Carol, don't say later," Daddy corrected. "It's bad manners."

"Sorry, papa," Carol giggled as she and Daddy the Father left as the three watched them leave.

"When people say Daddy the Father is a disgrace to Marine..." Nami said. "At least we'll know the real story."

"That's true," Jou agreed.

"My father will see me as a true warrior someday!" Usopp smiled in pride. "You'll see! I'll be as brave as Daddy the Father and I will make my father proud! I know it!"

Jou smiled at the sniper and could tell Usopp was on his way to becoming what he wants to be: A Brave Warrior of the Sea. Of that Jou can be sure of as he'll witness Usopp's growing skill.

"Excuse me?" Jou heard a familiar voice as everyone turned. Jou turned and saw Rana standing close by.

"Rana?" Jou uttered out. He saw Nami giving Rana a curious look as Nami brought her suspicious eyes to Jou as he gazed back at her.

Well, this should be interesting, Jou couldn't help but think.

Originally, the Daddy the Father filler was going to be in the next chapter. But I used it because I like it and I think it's good character development for Usopp. I will not be doing Sanji's cooking battle but he will still have that Elephant Tuna.

Now, here's another thing. Bartolomeo. I actually planned for Jou and Rana to get into a random fight with a group, to showcase their teamwork. But then I thought it'd be interesting if Jou had an early encounter with Bartolomeo. He was a little tricky to write for. Since all we know is that he's very vulgar toward people he doesn't like. He did not have his Devil Fruit power that lets him use Barriers, it's unclear when he ate the fruit though.

Just thought it would be cool if Jou met him pre-Dressrosa when we see him as the Straw hat crew's biggest fan. While Jou thinks he's not the same guy he met 2 years ago in Loguetown.

That's all for this chapter. The first chapter of 2022.

I'll see you guys next time.

Later!
