Prologue: An Easy Target

Slash!

Creati jumped back just in time to avoid being cut by the katana that the shadow figure in front of her was wielding. Two more shadow figures came racing towards her, each with weapons of their own and an intent to kill. But that wasn't what Creati was most concerned about. While trying to dispatch the shadows in front of her, she was also trying to figure out a way to get closer to the man who was controlling these shadow figures.

Kasumi Kageyami. Villain name: Midnight Puppet. Age 29. Underground street fighter turned villain when he was fired for killing his opponent in the ring. Police have been unable to capture him. After being fired, he went after and killed his former manager. Apart from being obviously skilled in hand-to-hand combat, Kageyami's quirk 'Shadow Gang' allows him to split his shadow up to four times, each one taking on his shape and nearly as strong as he is.

A fourth and final shadow figure emerged and stood, ready to fight. Momo sighed, the last thing she needed was another opponent to fight. Now she stood in front of four shadows, three with weapons and one without. They hadn't been fighting for long but Momo had learned a lot about their movements. Two charged in while the others provided back up. Momo blocked an incoming kick with her silver shield strapped to her left arm and swung her metallic staff and struck one of them in the chest making it stumble back. It dropped its katana. Momo kneed it in the stomach then moved on to the next one.

The shadow holding a lead pipe as a weapon was relentless, swinging continuously and ceaselessly in every direction, driving Momo backwards. Each hit against her shield felt solid as rock. This wasn't good, it was gaining a lot of ground on her, driving her backwards in the direction of the other two shadows. But that gave her an idea. Just as she was in range of the other two shadows ready to join in the attack, Momo pushed back against the shadow in front of her then leapt out of the way just in time when all three shadows attacked at the same time. The three of them struck each other.

The original Kasumi stood far away with his arms folded over his chest, frustration clearly showed on his scarred face, from his shadows' failure to strike the hero down. Momo smirked at his anger, he'd severely underestimated her and thought the battle would be over by now.

When she'd confronted him at the start of their fight, he'd only dispatched two of his shadows, claiming he wouldn't need anywhere near his full power to take her out. Now he was using all four of his shadows and he still hadn't achieved his victory.

Time to put what I've learned about these shadows to good use.

Momo moved further and further away from the original and the shadows followed to keep the fight going. However, the shadow lines that kept them connected to Kasumi got thinner and thinner and their movements slowed, not enough to make the fight too easy, but enough for her to put her idea to use.

"This may be an old move but it should still prove effective." she created four matryoshka dolls and threw them at the shadows who couldn't move any further than their current position. Exactly one hundred metres away from Kasumi, that was the maximum distance they could move away from him. Before the dolls hit the ground Momo put on a pair of extra strength light blocking goggles. The dolls popped open and revealed light grenades with their pins removed.

The resulting light explosion could leave a person temporarily blind for several hours. Thankfully the area had been evacuated at the start of the battle. Only Momo and Kasumi remained. The shadows, having been exposed to light at point blank range, disintegrated. That left only the original Kasumi on his feet.

He'd managed to somewhat shield his eyes just before the explosion happened so while he wasn't as incapacitated as she would've wanted, it was still a great advantage for Creati who sprinted right for him. He stood ready, both fists raised and his stance strong. He was tall, muscular, bald and had scars over the right side of his lip and over his left eye. Not to mention his bare torso also held many scars.

A frontal attack would never work on a pro fighter like him, especially when she couldn't match his strength, but there was always more to a fight than just physical strength.

When she was close enough to him, Momo dug her staff into the ground and leapt into the air. Kasumi reached into his pockets and threw daggers at her. Momo covered herself with her shield, then threw the shield right at him. He'd looked confused for a split second but caught the shield, however it blocked his field of vision just long enough for Momo to kick the shield right into his face before she landed on the ground. Kasumi stumbled back a few steps. Not giving him the chance to regain his balance, Momo swept her foot under his unstable one. But before Kasumi could fall backwards he recovered and planted his foot solidly on the ground and spun out of her range of striking and came in with a punch.

Momo held her arms in front of her to block it but the sheer force of his hit made her skid back quite far. As soon as she came to a stop in front of a car she lowered her arms. The spot on her arms he'd kicked her was throbbing painfully, it was definitely going to leave a bruise and her hands were shaking. He's incredibly strong, can't risk getting hit like that again. She readied her staff and took a fighting stance.

Kasumi smirked, pulling out eight daggers, each lodged between his fingers.

"How's about we put an end to this. My daggers versus your staff. Although, I'd say I have the upper hand here. A stick can't do much against a knife."

"Don't let appearances fool you." she twisted the front end of her metallic staff and a blade came out. It went from being a staff to a spear.

"Well, well aren't you just full of surprises." the excitement in his voice was evident. He wanted to test his skills against hers.

Beads of sweat trailed down her face but her gaze remained on him, both of them unblinking. Then in an instant they took off for each other.

Metal clashed with metal as Kasumi threw two of his daggers, which Momo blocked and swatted away, meanwhile he changed the positions of the remaining daggers in his hands. He threw two more into the air at different intervals and when the first fell to eye level, he struck the handle with his palm sending the bladed end straight at Momo's face. She'd ducked to avoid it, but that's what he was expecting her to do because at the same time the second dagger had fallen just above his knee which he sent towards her as well. This time, it cut her shoulder. Perfectly timed.

Momo winced in pain but didn't stop in her attack. She gripped her bleeding shoulder. He still had four daggers left and this fight needed to end. She created another shield for herself but this one was slightly different from the first. The second she'd finished creating her shield, Kasumi closed the distance between them, swinging his arms to try and land a punch with his remaining daggers still wedged between his fingers. He now had a greater reach and the attacks could become lethal if he struck a vital spot.

Momo back flipped out of the way but not without getting cut on her thigh. Kasumi cackled when he saw her blood on his dagger.

It was now or never. Momo tilted her shield at a certain angle and reflected the sun in his eyes. Kasumi cursed and tried to look away but Momo didn't relent. His vision didn't have enough time to recover as he stumbled backwards. Momo threw her spear right by his feet causing him to trip over it and kicked him to make him fall faster. But before he hit the ground he arched his back and caught himself with one hand. Momo anticipated that he'd try save himself from falling and swept her foot under his hand to knock him down.

Finally he landed head first on the road. Momo restrained him before he could recover.

Momo let out a sigh of relief. It was over and the police immediately came into their fight area to arrest Kasumi. Momo was about to head over to the police to make sure everything was taken care of but one step and a sharp pain shot through her leg.

Oh right. She'd forgotten Kasumi had cut her twice in their fight. Medics came over to check on her and deal with her wounds. No matter how many times she insisted she was alright and could tend to her wounds on her own, the medics insisted and she gave in.

"Looks like I didn't need to rush over here after all." someone walked over and took a seat next to her as the medics finished on her wounds.

"Were you in the area as well, Ingenium?" she greeted him with a smile. Currently the number five hero and one of her closest friends, Iida Tenya.

"I was dealing with another villain close by and heard the request for evacuating the area. You did a great job, as usual." he put his hand on her shoulder, not the injured one thankfully.

The police van drove off with Kasumi and the officers that remained behind helped the people back on the roads and streets. Soon enough many people had stopped to look at the remains of the battle but thanks to Creati's consideration of infrastructure, there was minimal damage to the area.

After a few minutes of talking the two pro heroes stood up and decided to head back and report their respective missions. A few cheers from the crowd caught their attention. The two pro's turned to see the crowd of people cheering them on, almost everyone had their phones out and were recording them. Iida smiled.

"It would seem your admirers aren't ready for you to depart just yet." he pushed up his glasses, having removed his helmet when he'd arrived.

"We're still on duty, not to mention we're not celebrities." Creati replied all the while, smiling and waving to the crowd, which garnered even more cheers.

"That's debatable from the eyes of fans." he chuckled, "Plus it looks like the officers keeping the crowd back are having a difficult time. Part of our job is public safety, appeasing them technically falls under that category."

"You just want me to go over there." she gave a teasing smile while already making her way to the crowd.

"I enjoy seeing my hard-working friends being celebrated." he called from behind her.

That was a very Iida answer, the everything hero concluded as she got closer to the crowd. It got louder and louder, the closer she got.

Momo was keenly aware of how popular she was but never held it over her colleagues, quite the opposite in fact. Many times her friends would remind her, popularity wise, she was ranked number one.

When she stopped close enough to crowds, both civilians and reporters took pictures as fast as they could. Some fans even asked for her autograph and to take a picture together. She didn't mind and happily interacted with her fans. Iida may have been right, this part of the job, though not the most important part of it, it was still good to interact with the crowds and reassure them that they were protected.

Just as Momo was about to leave after taking a selfie with a father and his two young daughters, there was a commotion coming from the one side of the street. Someone was making their way over and causing quite the ruckus, shoving people out the way. As he made his way to the front, Momo got a better look at him. A man around her age, obvious very wealthy based on the designer brand black suit he was wearing, long brown hair and objectively handsome. Oh, wait, she recognised him.

Momo sighed internally. Him again. His name was Tasuke. Tasuke Fuji, the only son of well-known designer Kosuke Fuji, and he was quite the Creati fan. He'd shown up to many of her battles over the years, in fact it was the year after she'd graduated from UA that she'd started seeing him around all the time whenever she was out on missions. Sometimes he'd even go as far as putting himself in danger just to get her attention. She'd told him numerous times how reckless he was and warned him to stay out of trouble, but everything she'd said had gone in one ear and out the other. Being a rich and famous by proxy son, there weren't many people that could tell you what to do.

"Creati! Creat! Your number one fan has returned to see you once again. You were spectacular out there as usual, keeping our city safe... unlike other heroes." his eyes narrowed at that last part as he shoved a young woman out the way so he could walk over to her.

Here we go again, Momo thought to herself. Tasuke had a very public hatred of Shōto simply because the two of them spent a lot of time together and even collaborated on missions and photoshoots. According to Tasuke, however, Shōto was "holding her back" but Momo could see right through him. He was jealous of Shōto for various reasons.

"Tasuke, how many times do I have to tell you that you can't keep coming in past the police blockades, they're there for a reason. Civilians aren't allowed on this side."

"I'm not just any civilian and besides I came here for a very important reason that just demanded I come see you in person."

She didn't like where this was going.

"Creati, the two of us could really go places together. Nobody loves and supports you the way I do. A top hero and the son of a fashion mogul, just picture it and how much more popular you would get if you were seen with me." he said dramatically then held her hand and brought it to his lips. Shock kept Momo from saying anything but she was very uncomfortable, luckily she pulled her hand away before he could kiss it, but he didn't seem bothered by it. "How would you like to be my girlfriend?"

"Please tell me you're joking." there was absolutely no way he was being serious, there was just no way.

"Why would I be joking? I'm hardly the first man to be infatuated with you. The first real man sure but not the first." he took a step closer, leaning in to her face. "I want you in every way possible." he whispered and looked her up and down. "And that is part of your job isn't it? Serving the public." just as he was about to put his hands around her waist, Momo slapped his hands away. He'd looked disgusted at the act but she didn't care anymore.

She'd entertained this long enough.

"Tasuke, you might be used to other people saying yes to everything you ask for and doing whatever you want, but I am not one of those people. I appreciate the fact that you respect my work as a hero but the expensive gifts, the unwelcome sexual advances, all of it has to stop." she was glad to see him flinch a bit and take a step back. She was absolutely serious.

From the corner of her eye, she could see Iida making his way over but she raised her hand to stop him. This conversation was over. She turned to walk away but Tasuke wasn't having it.

"You can't actually be saying no to me! Do you realise who I am?!" he marched after her and grabbed her wrist, pure unfiltered anger showed on his face, a face he'd never shown in front of her.

The crowd that had gathered was now solely focused on this interaction. The villain attack from earlier completely forgotten. People took out their phones and started recording.

"Living off of your father's wealth for so long has you thinking his talents are your own." he was glaring at her and she glared right back, "Let go of me right now."

No one had ever spoken to him like that, his grip on her wrist tightened but Momo didn't flinch even a bit. In fact, she'd slipped right out of his grasp when she created a bracelet right where his hand was, loosening his grip on her skin so she could move her arm.

Momo sighed as she walked away, hoping this was the end of it all however,

"You bitch, you think you can just—

He moved in to reach for her again, however a hand caught his wrist before he could.

"I think you've done enough, don't you think? She's made her point clear." Heterochromatic eyes glared at Tasuke.

"I wasn't talking to you! How dare you touch me!" he spat.

"You mean the same way you were holding on to Creati just now?"

"Shōto, what are you doing here? How'd you know what was happening?" Iida, who'd also come over to deal with Tasuke, asked.

"Your audience over there has been streaming everything and I was close-by, this little incident is all over the internet." Shōto didn't relent when Tasuke tried to pull his arm away.

"Shōto, it's okay you can let go of him. I've already dealt with this." Momo placed her hand over his. He eventually let go. Tasuke straightened up but his hateful glare never left his face, if nothing else it only worsened since Shōto's arrival.

"Shōto, always showing up where you're not wanted. Shouldn't you be rescuing a cat from a tree or something? A job even you can handle."

"See, I'd love to get back to my actual job, but jokers like you keep showing up and making trouble so I can't. See the problem here? I can't be saving anything if I have watch over you like a damn babysitter." Shōto was never one to mince words, and being taller than Tasuke felt even more satisfying because he got to literally look down on him.

"What did you just—

"That's quite enough, gentlemen. Tasuke, you've been warned. Return to the other side of the police line and refrain from further harassing my friends." Iida stepped in.

"This isn't over, you'll regret rejecting me, Creati. I always knew I was too good for you." Tasuke turned and left. Momo didn't bother dignifying him with a response. Once he'd disappeared into the crowd, her shoulders slouched in relief. Her two guy friends sighed at the same time.

The police began ushering the crowd away, funny how they only did that after the commotion.

"Well that was annoying. You okay?" Shōto asked, concern on his face.

"I'm fine and glad to finally be able to put him behind me.

"You think he meant what he said just now? You really think he'll retaliate?" Iida asked as the three of them headed back to Momo's car.

"He probably will but I don't want to think about that right now. I've just dealt with a villain and overly obsessed fan and I'm hungry, let's get dinner."

If only she knew what was coming…

A scorned fan was one thing, but a scorned fan with a lot of money and influence was an entirely different beast.

And that's the beginning done, hope you enjoyed it. The stage has been set and I can't wait to keep writing and posting the rest of this story. Tasuke really thinks the world revolves around him and he's willing to do anything to make sure he gets his way. Things are deffs gonna get more interesting.

Well that's it from me-

Until the next chapter:
