Hey guys! This chapter was a little late in getting out, but I got back around to doing it. Just something I would like to point out. I don't know if people are aware, but recently, on three of my stories, I've had a disgusting review posted. I'm not sure if it's just a troll or a legit thing, but I don't tolerate things like that posted. I'm also aware that nothing would probably not be done about it if it was reported, however that person has been blacklisted from posting again. I'm just not sure how to go about deleting it, as I don't want anything like that on my reviews. If anyone knows how to do that, then please let me know. Now I've got that out of the way, please enjoy this chapter xx

Chapter 5
The next week goes by in this fashion. Waking up, travelling, resting for the night where I will alternate between hand to hand training with Dwalin and weapons training with Fili. After he cuts down a stick to the size of a sword which might work for me, he goes over different stances and techniques for me to practice with. Kili also teaches me archery, which is something I am very interested in, having wanted to use a bow ever since Robin Hood.
When I mention this, I'm asked about Robin Hood and when given a brief explanation of him robbing from the rich to feed the poor, they seem very interested in it. So, that night, I put the cartoon Disney version on, not wanting Aiden to see the other versions with them being too graphic.
They ask about the animal characters being able to walk and talk like we can and I explain about them being anthropomorphic beings, human like animals which act like people. When most of them get confused with the word anthropomorphic, I instead call them Beastfolk, which I have read about and they accept that.
This continues for about a week, until the weather starts tuning bad and Thorin calls off my training. I also decline to use the phone or the tablet, as I didn't want them to get any water damage, when and if it did rain. Luckily, my rucksack was waterproof, so it was still safe, but I would charge the solar charger with the little sun we would have during the day.
Soon enough, the sky is fully dark, during the day, as the heavens open up and we're pelted with rain. Reaching over to Aiden, I pull out his raincoat and help him to put it on, pulling the hood onto his head, before doing the same with my coat.
Most of the dwarves see this, but it's so miserable, they don't have the energy to ask about it. Looking ahead, I have to smile as I see Bofur trying to light his pipe. Ever the optimist that one.
"Here, Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?" Dori asks.
"It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done." Gandalf replies. "If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard."
I tilt my head, curious to ask. "Are there any?"
Gandalf turns to me. "Hm. Any what, dear?"
"Other wizards?"
"There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman, the White. Then there are the two Blue Wizards; you know, I've quite forgotten their names."
"And who is the fifth?" Bilbo asks.
"Well, that would be Radagast, the Brown."
"Is he a great Wizard or is he. . .more like you?"
I struggle to hold a snort of laughter, burying my head into Fili's back to keep myself from laughing as Gandalf turns to Bilbo, looking slightly offended.
"I think he's a very great wizard, in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too, for always Evil will look to find a foothold in this world."
I smile at this. This Radagast fellow sounds like my kind of guy. Anyone who would go out of their way to watch and protect the animals and nature is a good guy in my book.
Thorin pushes us on as much as he can, until he finally calls for us to stop. Looking up, I see we have stopped by a cave, which I am assuming we will be using to take cover in for the night. Unfortunately, it looks as though the horse and ponies will be staying outside. Everyone rushes to get off and get inside to get dry, luckily the cave seems large enough for us all to stay in for the night. Gloin and Oin manage to somehow get a fire going and we all sit around it to get warm.
I take my coat off before doing the same with Aiden's, as well as taking his shoes and socks off, before sitting him in front of me so he can warm his toes up, while keeping his socks near the fire to dry.
"Is that better, sweetheart?" I ask him, rubbing my hands up and down his arms.
He nods. "Yes, mummy."
I smile and kiss his wet hair as he leans back into me.
Oin decides to take that chance to have a look at my leg, and deems it fully healed and no longer needing bandages. I give a mini cheer which causes chuckles to ring out through the cave.
As dinner is being prepared. Aiden looks up at me. "Mummy, can we have McDonald's soon?"
I have to stop myself from laughing as every single head turns to us at his question.
"A what?" Kili asks.
I let out a little giggle as I look down to Aiden. "I'm afraid not, carino. There are no McDonald's here." I just smile at his little pout before turning to the others. "McDonald's. It's. . .it's a place we go to back home, where we can buy food from. Food that are certainly not healthy for you."
"Like what?" Bombur asks.
I then proceed to explain the different types of food that you can get there, as best as I can at least. I don't mention about the soft drinks, not really knowing how to explain those. They seem satisfied with my answer though and by the time I'm done, we're all eating quietly, the rain still pounding outside.
Once we've eaten, we all relax for the night. I take Aiden towards the back of the cave and sit against the stone, Aiden in front of me.
"Any chance of a song from your world, lass?" Bofur asks. "Anything to lighten the mood a little?"
I look up at this and notice several pair of eyes on me. I think for a little while before I suddenly smile.
"Yeah, I know one. Kili, could you pass me my bag, please?"
He does so, he and his brother sitting on either side of us. Going into my pack, I pull out my phone and the boys watch as I open the Spotify and scroll through all the songs I have in my downloaded playlist. I am now so thankful I downloaded all of these before I left home.
"Are they your songs?" Fili asks curiously.
I nod. "Mhm. Like how I described movies, we have singers that are recorded so other people can listen to them." I smile as I find the song I'm looking for. "How does a song about dwarves sound?"
There are a few cheers before I press play. I smile as the drums begin to play and I just smile at the shocked looks on everyone's faces as they hear the music, the drums beginning to play. I then begin to sing.
"Brothers of the mine rejoice!
Swing, swing, swing with me
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Sing, sing, sing with me
Down and down into the deep
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubies, gold and more
Hidden in the mountain store
Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home
Skin made of iron, steel in our bones
To dig and dig makes us free
Come on brothers sing with me!
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole."
I smile as I watch the dwarves dancing in their seats, especially Bofur who I know is a miner by trade. Even Thorin is tapping his toes at the beat.
"The sunlight will not reach this low
Deep, deep in the mine
Never seen the blue moon glow
Dwarves won't fly so high
Fill a glass and down some mead!
Stuff your bellies at the feast!
Stumble home and fall asleep
Dreaming in our mountain keep
Born underground, grown inside a rocky womb
The earth is our cradle; the mountain shall become our tomb
Face us on the battlefield; you will meet your doom
We do not fear what lies beneath
We can never dig too deep.
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole."
I'm surprised when some of the dwarves started to sing with me, (Bofur, Dwalin, Fili and Kili), but I don't say anything about it and just sing with them.
"Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home
Skin made of iron, steel in our bones
To dig and dig makes us free
Come on brothers sing with me!
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole."
When the song ends, the dwarves cheer as I close down the music app.
"That was a great song, Sophia!" Kili exclaims.
"Aye, I reckon I'll be having that in my head for a while now." Bofur says with a grin, causing a few of us to laugh.
I smile as I go through my phone. When I do, I frown as I find a few songs that have no title. When I press play, it just tells me that they can't be found. Thinking that's weird, I get out my tablet and go into my movie and books folders; it's the same in those. There are six movies that can't be read, along with quite a few books. I'm so confused at this. Why can't those be read? What even are they?
"Are you alright, lass?" Balin's voice asks me.
Looking up, I see him looking at me in concern. As do a few others at his question.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry." I say with a smile as I turn the phone off and put it away.
He looks to me for a few moments before nodding and continues his conversation with Thorin, Thorin taking a moment to make sure I am truly alright before turning to Balin.
As Aiden is talking and laughing with Fili and Kili, and I just sit back after putting the electronics away as I think about those files. I'm sure they worked before I came here, otherwise I wouldn't have left them on. . .so why don't they now? I decide that's something for future Sophia to worry about and get involved with the conversation with Aiden, Fili and Kili.
A few days pass since that night, and the sun has finally come back out, making everyone happy again. We end up coming up to the ruins of a house, where Thorin announces we'll be staying for the night. As we all dismount, Thorin orders Fili and Kili to watch the ponies and then to Oin and Gloin to get a fire going.
"I think it would be wiser to move on. We could make for the Hidden Valley."
I look up as Gandalf suggests this and see him and Thorin talking. Aiden and I stand with Bilbo and Balin by Balin's white pony. Looking up at the heated voices of Thorin and Gandalf, I watch them both talking, Thorin obviously not happe with whatever the wizard said. I frown to myself as I look around the area we are in. This whole place seems familiar to me, something tickling the back of my mind, but I can't quite place what it is.
After a few moments, Gandalf comes storming out of the house.
"Everything alright? Gandalf, where are you going?" Bilbo asks as Gandalf starts to leave.
"To seek the company of the only one around here who's got any sense."
"Who's that?"
"Myself, Mr. Baggins! I've had enough of dwarves for one day."
At Gandalf's raised voice, Aiden whimpers slightly and stands closer to me, causing me to pick him up and hold him close in comfort, allowing him to bury his head in my shoulder.
"Come on, Bombur, we're hungry." Thorin calls out, obviously not sounding happy.
"Is he coming back?" Bilbo asks Balin.
Balin looks unsure as he watches Gandalf leave.
"I'm sure he'll come back." I assure him as I rock Aiden slightly. "He probably just needed to cool down."
He nods and we go to settle down as dinner is being prepared, Fili and Kili taking the ponies. Before dinner, I get Aiden and I washed up, after going around the house to get us into a new change of clothes. Aiden is now wearing a long sleeved, cream coloured Pikachu shirt with black joggers. I am also wearing black joggers along with a black "mischief managed." T-Shirt.
When we come back to the others, we are immediately asked questions about our clothing, especially what's printed on them. I explain to them what we're wearing as well as what Pokemon are and about Harry Potter, which is where my shirt print came from. The others seem excited to hear about new things from my world, and I promise them I will start to read from the Harry Potter books I have on the tablet.
Dwalin decides to pick up my training again, going back over what we learnt and learning some new techniques. Although, we decide against throwing each other around, what with how uneven the plains are and with the rocks and stone everywhere.
It is soon night-time when dinner is done, Aiden and I are the first to get our share, Ori passing us our bowls before getting his own and joining me with a smile, one I happily give back. I had grown to really like Ori, he reminded me a lot of Aiden, innocent and curious. We talk to each other, well, I say talk, I mean he asks more questions about my home while I answer what I can. I had thought the novelty of my home would have washed away with the rain by now, but apparently not. Although, I am still happy to answer any questions anyone might have.
"He's been a long time." I hear Bilbo speak up from where he's standing and watching the horizon.
"Who?" Bofur asks while dishing out two bowls of the stew.
"Gandalf."
"He's a wizard! He does as he chooses. Here, do us a favour: take this to the lads."
Bofur hands Bilbo two bowls of soup to take to Fili and Kili; Bilbo leaves. Bombur tries to take more stew, but Bofur slaps his hand.
"Stop it, you've had plenty."
I grin at this as I sit back once I've finished eating.
"Aye, it's not bad stew this Bombur." Gloin speaks up. "I've had worse."
"Dori could've cooked it!" Nori teases, causing the dwarves and I to laugh.
"Hilarious." Dori says sarcastically.
I giggle at this as I lay Aiden, who has fallen asleep, down onto the bedroll we're using. Running my fingers through his hair, I think about all that has happened these past couple of weeks, and can't help but think it's strange that, in all my life, I have never been as comfortable with a large group than I have while being with this bunch of dwarves. Even with my own family, who I loved and adored dearly. Not only have I found some people at my size, they are all friendly and helpful. They are also kind and patient with my son, even the more stubborn and stoic of the bunch, such as Dwalin, has been known to offer some kindness to us both. Aiden has still kept away from those dwarves, still nervous about them, though he will acknowledge them from afar. He mainly stays with Fili, Kili, Bilbo, Bofur and Ori. I've not felt this much at home in a long time. . .not felt this safe in a long time, for either myself or my son. I could never repay them for their kindness.
Not long after, Fili and Kili come rushing up, panic on their faces. Thorin bolts up the moment he sees them.
"What is it? What's wrong?"
"Trolls! They've taken some of our ponies! Bilbo has gone to try and get them back!" Fili answers.
The rest of the dwarves are instantly on their feet. I look around helplessly, not knowing what to do. I want to help, but what exactly can I do? Thorin makes my decision for me.
"Stay here with Aiden. It'll be much safer for the both of you. Keep this with you, just in case."
He then hands me a dagger before running through the trees with the others. I sit back looking around at the abandoned camp feeling more alone and scared now than I've been in a while. I immediately stand as I hear the shouts of the dwarves as they engage with the trolls, but I don't move from my spot.
"Mummy? What that?" I hear Aiden ask.
Looking down, I see I woke him up with me jumping up, and then him looking around in fear at the shouts he heard.
"Where everyone gone?"
Sensing his fear, I immediately kneel by him and gently run a hand through his hair. "Don't worry about it, sweetheart. The others just had to take care of something, they'll be back soon, okay?"
He nods and I encourage him to get some more sleep, singing quietly and softly to him, which helps him sleep. After kissing his head, I decide to do something before I go crazy, so I start to break down camp, just in case they're successful in saving Bilbo and the ponies and return. I manage to get everything packed away, luckily knowing what belonged to who, and the fire put out the dishes, spoons and cooking pot also washed up and packed in about an hour or so. Not having anything else to do, I sit by Aiden and just wait.
I stay there all night alone with Aiden. My worry for the others growing more and more intense at every hour. It must be close to sunrise by now. Hearing a twig snap from behind me, I jump up and spin around, dagger held up, but then I breathe a huge sigh of relief as I see Gandalf looking around at the almost abandoned camp.
"Where is everyone?"
"Trolls had taken some of the ponies, so Bilbo went to try and get them, prompting the dwarves to rescue him and the ponies. That was hours ago."
Alarm immediately registers on his face. He looks around and then looks towards the sky, which is starting to get lighter as dawn approaches.
"I have an idea. . .but I'll need your help."
I nod and then gently waking Aiden up, not wanting to leave him behind alone, before getting him on my back and telling him to be quiet as we follow Gandalf into the trees, in the direction the dwarves went. We soon find the camp of the trolls. Hiding behind the trees, I never thought I would see – or smell something – so foul in all my life! Three huge trolls, must have been almost twenty feet in height! What horrifies me is seeing the state of Bilbo and the dwarves. Dwalin, Bofur, Bifur, Dori, Nori and Ori are tied onto a spit over a fire while the others are tied in sacks on the ground. Aiden grips hold of me, whimpering slightly at the sight. I put a finger to his lips, quietly telling him to be quiet before watching what's happening.
"Don't bother cooking them. Let's just sit on them and squash them into jelly." one of the trolls says.
The troll turning the spit looks to him. "They should be sautéed and grilled with a sprinkle of sage."
"Is this really necessary?" I can hear Dori ask, but he is promptly ignored.
"Ooh, that does sound quite nice." the first troll agrees.
"Untie us, you monsters!"
"Take on someone your own size!" Oin and Gloin complain from the sacks.
"Never mind the seasoning; we ain't got all night! Dawn ain't far away, so let's get a move on. I don't fancy being turned to stone." the final troll points out.
Gandalf and I glance at each other before turning back to the scene before us as Bilbo calls out.
"Wait! You are making a terrible mistake!"
"You can't reason with them, they're half-wits!" Dori tries warning him.
"Half-wits? What does that make us?" Bofur cries out indignantly.
Bilbo manages to stand up, although still tied up in a sack. He faces the trolls.
"Uh, I meant with the, uh, with, uh, with the seasoning."
"What about the seasoning?" one of the trolls asks him.
"Well have you smelt them? You're going to need something stronger than sage before you plate this lot up."
The dwarves yell at Bilbo, calling him a traitor, I recognise the voice of Thorin there, calling him a traitor. The ones in sacks, that are close to him, kick him.
"The clever hobbit. . .he's stalling for time." Gandalf says quietly. He then looks to me. "When you have the time, free them."
He then turns and walks away. I swallow hard as I look back to the others before quietly getting down on the ground and army crawls, Aiden crawling next to me, to the dwarves on the ground while listening to what is happening.
"What do you know about cooking dwarf?"
"Shut up, and let the, uh, flurgaburburrahobbit talk."
"Uh, th-the secret to cooking dwarf is, um-"
"Yes? Come on.
"It's, uh-"
"Tell us the secret."
"Ye-yes, I'm telling you, the secret is ... to skin them first!"
"Tom, get me the filleting knife."
I wince at this as I hear the dwarves cry out their anger towards the hobbit. I soon reach the dwarves, the one nearest to me being Thorin. Getting Aiden to lay down, I get closer to the dwarf.
"Psst! Thorin!" I hiss at him.
He turns, his eyes wide in surprise and horror at seeing me.
"What are you doing here!? I told you to stay behind, where's Aiden?" he hisses back, trying not to be suspicious in front of the trolls.
"Shh! He's with me. I'm getting you out of here!" I reach up with the dagger to saw through the rope at his neck, which closes the sack.
"What a load of rubbish! I've eaten plenty with their skins on. Scuff them, I say, boots and all."
"e's right! Nothing wrong with a bit of raw dwarf! Nice and crunchy."
I have to duck out of sight of the troll that just spoke as he grabs Bombur and I watch in horror as he dangles the poor dwarf upside down over his mouth, ready to eat him!
"Not-not that one, he-he's infected!" Bilbo suddenly yells out, causing the troll to stop.
"You what?"
"Yeah, He's got worms in his ... tubes."
The troll drops Bombur back into the pile of dwarves in disgust, causing me to wince at the grunts of pain from the dwarves.
"In-in fact they all have, they're in-infested with parasites. It's a terrible business; I wouldn't risk it, I really wouldn't."
"Parasites, did he say parasites?"
"We don't have parasites! You have parasites!"
"What are you talking about, laddie?"
The rest of the dwarves chime in about how they don't have parasites and how Bilbo is a fool. I roll my eyes and actually drop my head on Thorin's shoulder in frustration, thinking they're the fools before leaning up to hiss in Thorin's ear.
"Get them to shut up! Bilbo's stalling for time! Gandalf's coming!"
Realisation hits Thorin, finally understanding Bilbo's plan, he kicks the others. They then understand and go along with it. All the dwarves begin proclaiming about how they're "riddled" with parasites.
"I've got parasites as big as my arm."
"Mine are the biggest parasites, I've got huge parasites!"
"We're riddled."
"Yes, I'm riddled."
"Yes we are. Badly!"
"What would you have us do, then, let 'em all go?" Tom asks Bilbo.
"Well. . ."
"You think I don't know what you're up to? This little ferret is taking us for fools!"
"Ferret?"
"Fools?"
Gandalf appears on top of a large rock above the clearing. "The dawn will take you all!"
"Who's that?"
"No idea."
"Can we eat `im too?"
Gandalf strikes the rock with his staff, splitting it in half, allowing the sunlight behind it to pour into the clearing. When the sunlight touches the trolls' skin, I watch in awe as they begin turning into stone amidst loud screams and howls of pain. Within seconds, there are three stone statues of trolls in the clearing. All the dwarves cheer for Gandalf.
"Oh, get your foot out of my back!" Dwalin calls out.
I breath a sigh of relief at knowing that everyone is now safe without any casualties. Once I free Thorin, he smiles his thanks at me before taking the dagger back and helping to free the others that have been stuffed into the sacks. Looking back at Aiden, I see him curled up on the ground close by, shaking in fear. I pick him up and hold him close as I stand. Seeing the others getting up and getting themselves dressed again and getting their weapons collected, I offer to go back to camp to bring our belongings over. Thorin tells me to wait and sends Fili and Kili with me once they're dressed and when they are, the four of us go back to camp.
Theres chapter 5 all done and uploaded! Of course I wasn't going to take Diggy Diggy Hole out of this, it's far too good of an opportunity to not leave it in :D! Hope you all enjoyed it! Oh, just a reminder that I'm not fluent in Spanish at all, but I'm learning it and wanted to add another little aspect into Sophia. Most of the Spanish I'll be bringing out is from Google, so if anyone sees any mistakes in anything I say, please, please, let me know. I like to be educated in language xx
