Chapter 1: Two Broken Marriages
Twenty- seven Richard 'Dick' Grayson is arguing with his wife Kory again.
"I'm sorry Kory, but I have to work. Yin and I are trying to take down the biggest dealer in Bludhaven."
"Why can't you just work in Wayne Enterprise?!"
"I'm helping people, Kory. I'm saving lives. Why can't you understand that?!"
"You do that as Nightwing!"
"I want to do more to help!"
"I feel like I don't have a husband anymore!"
"You want me to quit, so you can have a husband!"
"I didn't say that!"
"Yes you did!"
Both became silent. Dick took a deep breath.
"I have to get to work, then I have a shift at the Watchtower, so I will be home late. Let's talk about this when I get home."
Dick grabs his keys and looks back at her. She didn't look at him.
Zatanna got ready for her shift at the Watchtower, but her husband grabbed her by her waist and tried to kiss her. She gently pushed him back.
"John I can't. I have a shift at the Watchtower."
"Come on love. It will be quick."
"I can't! Just let me go."
John let her go as she cast the teleportation spell to go to the nearest Zeta-Tube.
Nightwing stares blankly at the screen. His mind is on his marriage that is going horrible. Then he heard the announcement of Zatanna, his ex-girlfriend.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Penny for your thoughts?"
"Kory and I are fighting again."
"Sorry. What about?"
"She wants me to quit my job at Bludhaven PD, and work at Wayne Enterprise."
"You love that job. You were inspired by Commissioner Gordon to be a cop. He really helps you after your parents die. You found that little girl after a pedophile took her. She was gone for three months, and you didn't stop looking. You have to explain this to her."
"Thanks for the advice. How is Constantine?"
"We're good. We're good. We're good. We're good. We're gone."
"One more and I'll believe you."
"We're good."
"What's going on?"
"He's been more aggressive lately and I feel really uncomfortable."
Nightwing stands up, and grabs her hand.
"Zee if you're scared, then I'll come running."
"Thanks. I hope it works out with you and Kory."
"I hope it works out with you and Constantine."
"So you and the girls will visit her tonight? Thanks Artemis."
Dick opens the door with Chinese takeout. He put down on the table then heard noise. He opens the door to see Kory in bed with a man. He froze at that moment.
"Dick?!", she yelled, breaking him out of his trace.
Dick grabs a bag and puts his clothes in.
"Dick, I'm sorry", she said, wearing one of his shirts.
"I'm going to crash at the Manor or stay with a friend until I find a place. A lawyer will be in contact with you so we can get divorce."
"Dick, I made a mistake. I will never cheat on you again."
"There is a difference between you and me. I wouldn't have cheated on you."
He zip up his bag and walk out.
Artemis, Barbara, M'gann, and Raquel walk to Zatanna's apartment.
"So Dick told me that Zee and John are problems and she is really scared", Artemis explained walking to the door.
Then they heard screaming, and things crashing. Everyone looked at each other. Barbara kicked the door open. They saw Constantine on Zatanna trying to pull her clothes as she struggled to get him off of her with tears dripping down her face.
M'gann uses her powers to send him into the wall. Zatanna got up and ran to Artemis as she sobbed. Artemis pulls her into her arms glaring at him. Constantine got up and had a regretful look on his face.
"Zee-"
"Don't call me that. The only people who are only allowed to call me Zee are my friends", she sobbed as she shook Artemis's arm.
"Stay away from her. If we see you anywhere near her, you will die", Artemis threatened.
Dick is at Will's house. Lian was asleep. Wally, Conner, and Kaldur tried to cheer him up, but it wasn't working.
"She is a slut, Dick. She is not worth it. You're a great guy", Wally said, giving him a beer.
"Yeah. Who knows maybe the true love of your life will walk in?" Will said, then a tear stain Zatanna came in as Artemis and M'gann helped her.
"What happened?", Dick asks as he puts down his beer.
"I told him, I wanna go to bed. He wouldn't take no. He threw me to the ground and got on top of me. He was pulling off my clothes, and I just stood like a helpless girl", Zatanna sobbed as Artemis helped her to the couch.
"I going to kill him!", Dick declared as he felt pure anger at him.
"We took care of it", Artemis said.
Then they all got a call.
"We handle it. I joined in", Will said, as the girls looked confused.
"He is having a rough night", Wally said, as they walk out.
"Zatanna I'm so sorry."
"It wasn't your fault. Why are you here? I thought you had to talk to Kory."
"I found her in bed with another man."
"This is one of the worst nights I ever had."
"Me too."
"I don't know how I'm going to face him."
"If you want I can come with you."
"Really? Thank you."
"I can also use a roommate."
"Really? With our history?", she joked.
"We're both getting out of marriage, so it would make sense to move in together."
"Okay."
Dick pulls off his wedding ring and throws it in the fire. Zatanna's eyes widened. She looks at her ring, then pulls it off and throws it in the fire too.
"At least we have each other to go through this."
"Yeah", he said, giving her a little smile.
