Chapter 13

Arriving at Fisk Tower Spider-Man considered his options and then sighed.

'Alright...here we go, time to get inside, let's see if I can find anything useful...anything that connects Willy directly to the Assassins. I don't doubt he's behind this, but it would be useful to have evidence.' He reflected. 'Also, given the Mayor's dirty secrets on that drive, especially the ones that mention Kingpin...that's why he wanted that. Maybe there's some more stuff here that could add to what I uncovered.'

Considering that, Spider-Man stood up from where he had been perched on a ledge, looking over Fisk Tower. He sighed as he thought about the drive.

'Black Cat said that the drive was stolen by the mercenary leader...Good thing I made a copy of it, that info could be useful in bringing Willy down. But with the merc taking it, I have to wonder, given who hired him. What does Norman intend to do with that info, as if I couldn't guess.' Spidey thought to himself sardonically.

As he thought that he tilted his head to the left where he could see the campaign billboard for Osborn in the ongoing mayoral elections. Spidey also recalled there was a debate due in about a week's time. He couldn't help but wonder what Osborn planned, he couldn't exactly expose the contents of the drive during the debate, not outright, not without having to reveal how he got it, due the robbery already being well-known.

Spidey shook his head. 'But that won't stop him from using what he knows to try and at least tilt things to his advantage, hint things…'

Shaking his head, he focused on the matter at hand and swung towards Fisk Tower, to the entry point he'd noticed, a vent cover which led inside and soon he reached it and got the vent cover off and slipped inside.

Once inside Spidey began to crawl through, the vents were cramped, obviously, but still wide enough for him to crawl.

'Pretty clean too, no expense spared in cleaning your vents out, huh Fisk?'

Smirking at that, Spidey continued to crawl through the vents, moving up when necessary and listening in to any conversations he was able to overhear at the other vent covers. It was mostly idle chat from various workers. A few 'security' officers mentioning Spider-Man himself and the threat he posed, worried about what would happen if he showed up. But then he heard something, something that would certainly be useful.

"Hey, where the hell have you been?" One man snapped.

The other replied just as harshly. "Chill, I was at the server room, boss wanted me to make sure we had all the backups ready to run, in case we need to suddenly wipe stuff."

The first one now sounded shocked. "Whoa, what, the boss expecting an attack?"

"Maybe, I don't ask."

Their footsteps faded away and Spider-Man knew right away now that he needed to get to that server room. He began hurrying through the vents to get there, all the while his mind raced.

'Server room.' He noted. 'If there's anything on Fisk's dealings involving all this...it'll be there, ah, here we go.'

He had arrived and opened the vent shafted and glanced in, making sure it was empty before he dropped down into the room and hurried up to the main computer, plugging in his USB drive.

Working away at the computer and making copies of important files, Spidey couldn't help but smirk under his mask as he noticed what he was finding.

"Well, well, you've been busy Willy, so that attempt to tunnel under the bank to rob it and the attempted theft of several Oscorp trucks were both you and I stopped you both times and now the incident at the mayor's office…" He muttered to himself. "No wonder you want me dead."

Shaking his head, Spider-Man finally finished copying a lot of important info, if his assumption was correct it would be enough to finally have action taken against the Kingpin. But then, before he could leave, having removed his USB, monitors around the room turned on to show Fisk.

"So, Spider-Man, after all you've learned, you come and deliver yourself to me." He remarked. "How poetic...and how annoying you've been to me, three times you've inconvenienced me."

Spider-Man shrugged. "Well, you know it's what I do...but still, seems a bit extreme to send eight assassins after me with such a high bounty on my head. Well, six now, I already took two of them out."

Kingpin paused and that before growling. "So, you're still proving a nuisance...and in the server room. I see you've been snooping around things you shouldn't have, a big mistake."

"Well, what can you do, Willy?" Spidey quipped.

But then Kingpin smirked. "Not me, him."

Spidey barely had time to react to his Spider-Sense when suddenly he was grabbed from behind, lifted up as if the figure was holding him above his head, and then was thrown clean through the doors of the server room, out onto the large balcony.

Groaning, Spider-Man got to his feet, he was still hurt from the previous fight and now this. He stood up to see the large and imposing figure of Sergei Kravinoff emerge from the Server room.

"As I anticipated, come to die, Spider-Man." The large man said in a deep voice with a thick accent.

Spider-Man grimaced. "Whoa, how much do you eat to get that big?"

The man didn't even smirk. "Your jokes will not save you here, now, time to die. You will become the latest victim of Kraven the Hunter."

With that he drew a large machete from his belt and soon held it at the ready, starting to close in on Spider-Man who tensed. Kraven made the first move, lunging in and attempting a downward slash, almost too fast for his Spider-Sense to warn him in time. Luckily he dodged at the last possible moment and Kraven cut clean through the solid steel railing before instantly turned to follow Spidey's moves and was already facing him and ready again by the time Spidey had landed on his feet again.

"What the-!?" Spidey gasped. 'Okay, he's way faster and stronger than I thought, this is bad...really bad…'

Kraven attacked again and Spidey dodged the incoming machete attack but then Kraven followed up with a punch from his free hand. Spidey took the blow at roughly his shoulder but cried out in shock and pain.

'Wha, my...my whole arm just went numb.' He realized.

Quickly leaping back and dodging another blow he tried to attack with his still usable hand but Kraven easily blocked the blow and sneered.

"Pathetic, is this the best a superhero can do?"

Spidey hissed and had to dodge again, this was the worst part, the hunter was playing with him, he wasn't even attempting to fight at full strength.

'Gonna need something, a plan of some sort to beat him, but for now, I've only one choice.'

He then realized something bad, his plan to try and expose Kingpin wasn't going to work, since Kraven now stood, holding the USB.

"Looking for this?" He remarked before pocketing it." If you want it, you'll have to continue the fight."

Spidey growled. "You...this is just round one."

With that he did the only thing he could do and swung away, out of an open window, a difficult task with one fully working arm, but he did it as Kraven watched in distaste.

Spidey hated having to flee, but he knew he had no choice at the moment, his biggest problem would be if Kraven attacked again, while civilians were in danger. It was a short fight, but enough for him to see just how dangerous the hunter was, and that had been him playing around, warming up. Shaking his head Spidey began slapping his numb arm to try and get feeling back into it again. Once he did he retreated back home and, once inside and sure he wasn't going to be disturbed, he groaned but quickly got out of his suit and began doing his best to try and treat his injuries and recover over the night, he had just faced his first real bitter defeat.
