Spider-Man: A Dark Plot

Chapter 12

Black Cat grimaced as she limped away, trying to take cover, she couldn't use any of her gadgets to escape at this moment, mainly due to her injured state. She couldn't focus enough to do so.

'How did I end up in this situation?' She thought bitterly. 'Great, cornered by Hammerhead, the drive stolen by some merc who took advantage of this situation…'

She hissed as she realized she had made another mistake. She had been trying to escape from Hammerhead, or at least to take cover and devise a plan. Instead she had found herself trapped, cornered as Hammerhead smirked, stepping up to her.

"Well, well, nowhere to run now." He taunted her.

"Dammit." She groaned.

With a laugh, Hammerhead didn't even bother with his gun and lowered his head, clearly intending to use his head and sure enough his charged, intent on pummelling her right into the wall. Instead there is a familiar noise and Black Cat gasped as she was pulled upwards. Hammerhead grunted as he hit the wall, getting his head stuck. Spider-Man laughed lightly as he set her down on the rooftop he was perched on and Black Cat breathed a sigh of relief.

"Didn't think you'd make it in time." She admitted.

Spidey shook his head. "What can I say, I have a knack for turning up just in time."

Black Cat sighed. "I'll let you handle him, but then we need to talk, I need to tell you something."

Spidey looked at her, confused but shrugged and agreed before jumping from the rooftop and landed, ready to face Hammerhead who had pulled himself free.

Turning to face Spidey, Hammerhead laughed and shook his head.

"Well, what do you know...I've been hunting you for a while and now here you are, delivering yourself to me." He remarked.

Shaking his head, readying himself, Spider-Man focused on the gangster. "So...hard to believe you'd work for Kingpin, I guess even a former enemy will do anything for Willy for the right price."

Hammerhead scoffed. "What can I say, ten mil is a very good incentive. Now...if you don't mind, I couldn't care less about your banter."

He took aim and instantly opened fire, but Spider-Man dodged, knowing the battle had begun. With a grunt Hammerhead began to charge again.

"You're toast, do-gooder." He snapped.

But he didn't use his head this time, instead trying to deliver a hard punch. Spidey dodged and countered, managing to strike Hammerhead in the side, making the man grunt. He then swung his gun around like a bludgeon but again, with aid from his Spider-Sense, Spidey was able to dodge the blow and deliver a few more himself until Hammerhead had enough.

"Sorry, but I can't let you-!" Spidey began.

But then he cried out in pain as he tried to punch again, only for Hammerhead to lower his head, making Spidey punch that plate in the man's head instead.

"You were saying!" Hammerhead laughed.

With that he grabbed Spidey and charged forwards, slamming the young hero against a wall.

With a groan of pain, Spider-Man tried to move, but he couldn't without feeling the pain.

"Ow, dammit…" He grumbled. 'Not good, not good, can't take any more chances, need to just disable him and then figure out where the others are…'

His Spider-Sense flared like crazy and he did the only thing he could think of. He web-zipped up and out of the way, making Hammerhead hit the wall with his head and get stuck again. Spidey pushed back the pain and spun in the air and used his web-zip again to head straight for Hammerhead who quickly pulled himself free, only to feel the web.

"You-!"

But that was all he got out before Spidey was on him and began delivering heavy blows luring Hammerhead into trying to attack. Spidey took that moment to use his webs to pin one of Hammerhead's arms in an awkward position so he couldn't use it in the fight anymore. He then quickly webbed up Hammerhead's gun and shot a few more webs before flipping off the man's back. Hammerhead snarled.

"You're dead, dead!" He roared.

But Spidey took that moment to web up the man's other arm and, when he tried to charge, activated his final webline and now Hammerhead was helpless and strung upside down to await the police.

"Well, guess you won't be collecting that bounty." Spidey quipped.

Hammerhead snarled. "Curse you...no matter, even if I don't get it, the others will, you can't take us all down!"

Spider-Man nodded at that. "Hmmm, the others, good question, where are they, what are they up to?"

"You think I know, or care?" Hammerhead snapped. "All I cared about was dealing with you, getting my hands on the bounty, that's all any of us care about."

Spidey sighed, so much for that.

"Well, sorry about that, be good for the police now, they'll be here soon."

Hammerhead snarled while Spidey swung back up to the rooftop to check on Black Cat as she had asked.

Reaching the rooftop he found her standing up, thankfully looking recovered.

"Hey, see you're doing better." He remarked.

Black Cat gave a wry smile. "Better than you I bet, I saw him nearly put you through that wall."

Spider-Man shook his head. "I'll be fine."

"I hope so, because I've got bad news. I lost the drive." She explained.

"What?"

"Yeah, I was ambushed by Hammerhead and dropped the drive during the fight." She explained. "One of those mercs must have been scoping the place out, because he showed up and grabbed it and ran...guess he's taken it to his boss now."

"Finally finished the job huh, well that makes things even more...complicated." Spider-Man remarked. "Damn...listen, I know who employed the mercenaries, it was Norman Osborn."

"What the?!" She gasped.

Spider-Man nodded. "Yeah. So maybe seriously think about my advice to lay low."

Black Cat sighed. "I'll think about it, see you around Spider."

With that she left and Spider-Man thought for a moment. Determined to get to the bottom of this he pushed through the lingering pain, as he heard the sirens approaching, so instead he focused on his next plan. Heading for Fisk Tower to check up on Kingpin to try and find out the full details of his plans.
