AN: All right, let's make this quick:
Item 1: long, long story short, I've barely been able to look at a computer screen since about April - migraines are a grand old time. I am better now, thankfully, with the help of my doctor and some truly excellent advice from my stepmom.
Item 2: I promise there will be an actual chapter of Addendum soon. The truth is that I want to be a certain number of chapters ahead before I start posting them again, and I'm not quite there yet, but soon!
Item 3: There are about 18 of these and only 8 chapters left of the main story so, if I don't start posting these soon I'll be posting them long after the story is done, and that just seems weird to me.
With that being said, welcome to Addendum: Outtakes. This started because of a few scenes I had to cut from the main story but loved so much that I couldn't imagine just deleting. Some of them will be just like this one, a cut scene, and some of them will be sort of like an aside to explain how something happened - for example, how Elena and Katherine ended up on the same side - or scenes that are referenced a lot. Anyway, enjoy!
Addendum: Outtakes
Excerpt from Ch. 14
New Orleans IV
Louisiana: May 2018
Elena picks the first car in the Mikaelsons' garage with a car seat in it, not wanting to waste time.
She drives carefully through the city, out towards the bayou, twisting through swamplands, her destination firmly planted in her mind. Throughout the drive Hope cheerfully babbles to Mylena and Ham, cementing the toy's name forever.
She's packed a lunch for herself and Hope, and it's a short walk from the car to the cabin. Wolves start appearing before she even gets to the cabin; she recognizes more of them then she thought she would.
Jackson presses a wet nose to her knee, and she doesn't know if she should smile or cry.
"I came as soon as I found out," she tells him.
He gives her as understanding of a look as he can as a wolf. He brushes his body along her leg, walking in front to lead her the rest of the way.
Hayley meets her at the edge of the clearing where the cabin sits.
"Hey Hayles," Elena says softly.
Hayley nuzzles her nose into Elena's hip, ears brushing against her daughter's legs.
Elena puts down her bags, keeping ahold of Hope just long to spread a blanket on the ground. She sits down, crossing her legs and putting Hope in her lap.
As soon as she's settled Hayley pads over to touch her nose to Hope's.
There's a pause before Hope is releasing Ham the bunny to wrap her arms around her mother's muzzle.
Elena lets out a breath she didn't realize she's holding in.
"That's right, baby, you know your mama when you see her."
Hope nods at the familiar word. "Mama," she agrees.
Hayley enthusiastically peppers Hope's face with sloppy wolf kisses, making her giggle. It's not long before mother and daughter are romping about the clearing.
Elena gathers her knees to her chest and watches them. Jackson comes to sit next to Elena, leaning his warmth against her side.
Eventually Hope gets cranky and Elena pulls out the lunch she packed for them. Afterwards, Hope naps with Ham clutched in one arm, her other fist wrapped around her mother's tail.
Hayley arranges herself, placing her head in Elena's lap, careful not to disturb Hope.
Elena softly strokes her fingers across Hayley's furry head.
"I'm sorry I couldn't bring her when you were human, I only found out last night."
Hayley huffs, but doesn't seem to be angry with Elena.
"Elijah's the one who told me. He knows we're here. I didn't say exactly where we were going today, but he knows."
Hayley lets out a longing whine.
"I'm not exactly in the best position with Klaus right now," she admits. "I asked for a few favors."
Hayley's whine sounds more alarmed now.
"I swear, I'm going to do whatever I can to get you changed back, though."
Hayley nuzzles Elena's hip.
"In the meantime, I promise I will find someone to bring her back next time you're human. Elijah or Marcel, Davina even."
Hayley lets out a longing sigh.
"I know, Hayles, I know."
Moving onto lighter topics, Elena tells Hayley about finger-painting with Davina, and Hope's new nickname for her.
"I don't know how I feel about it yet. On one hand it's absurdly cute, on the other hand, I can't help but feel like this is Klaus. I mean, Mylena? As in My Elena? That has Klaus written all over it."
When Hope wakes up Hayley and Jackson herd Elena over to the cabin where Elena finds a neat pile of birthday presents for Hope tucked into a chest in the bedroom.
Elena helps Hope open each one while her mom and her pack look on. There's a wolf onesie a size too big for when the weather gets cold again, carefully whittled wolf figurines, a picture book about Little Red Riding Hood being taken in by a wolfpack, a handmade quilt, and a delicate music box painted with verdant swamplands and hidden wolves.
Hayley gives her a plaintive look as Elena packs the presents into a tote bag she found under the sink.
Elena shrugs, hazarding a guess at her worry. "I'll tell Klaus I bought them for her. Even if he guesses where they really came from, he won't question me about it."
Hayley nods.
The pack follow Elena and Hope back to the car.
Hayley gives Hope one last tiny kiss on her cheek with the very tip of her tongue before Elena straps her into her car seat.
Elena crouches down, petting a hand down Hayley's head, pressing a kiss to her furry head.
"You'll be able to hold her again soon, I promise."
Hayley nuzzles her face against Elena's.
Elena gets in and drives away, the wolves watching them go.
AN: Short, I know! I just love baby Hope and Hayley so much that I had to keep it. I will repeat for the impatient, I'll be back with a new chapter for the main story very soon, I promise! Questions? Comments? Please leave a review!
