Morning: A Change in Routine
For the past few weeks, Naruto and Miku had settled into a strange but comfortable routine.
Naruto would find her before class, sit next to her, tease her a little, and defend her whenever someone tried to take advantage of her.
Miku had gotten… used to it.
Maybe even liked it.
But today was different.
Because Naruto was late.
Miku glanced at the classroom door more than once.
But he never showed.
It felt… odd.
Empty.

Lunch Break: A Surprise Invitation
Miku sat under the tree alone, eating quietly.
She shouldn't feel this disappointed.
She was used to being by herself, wasn't she?
But then—
A shadow loomed over her.
Naruto: "Yo."
Miku looked up, startled.
Naruto stood there, hands in his pockets, his custom black-and-orange jacket unzipped, revealing his white T-shirt. His headphones rested around his neck.
Miku blinked.
Miku: "You're late."
Naruto grinned.
Naruto: "Missed me that much?"
Miku turned red and quickly looked away.
Miku: "N-No! I was just… surprised."
Naruto chuckled, sitting beside her.
Naruto: "Had something to take care of."
Miku hesitated before asking.
Miku: "…What was it?"
Naruto smirked.
Naruto: "Wouldn't you like to know?"
Miku pouted, making Naruto laugh.
Then—
Naruto: "Hey, Miku."
Miku turned to him.
Naruto rubbed the back of his head, looking uncharacteristically awkward.
Naruto: "You doing anything after school?"
Miku tilted her head.
Miku: "No… why?"
Naruto smirked, but there was a hint of nervousness in his eyes.
Naruto: "Let's go somewhere."
Miku's heart skipped a beat.

After School: The "Not-A-Date" Date
They ended up at a small café near the train station.
Naruto leaned back in his chair, sipping an iced coffee, while Miku shyly stirred her tea.
Miku: "…Why did you invite me?"
Naruto shrugged.
Naruto: "Dunno. Just felt like it."
Miku stared at him.
Miku: "…That's not an answer."
Naruto grinned.
Naruto: "Fine. Maybe I just wanted to see you blush again."
Miku turned bright red.
Miku: "T-That's not funny!"
Naruto chuckled.
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment.
Then—
Naruto: "Do people still mess with you?"
Miku hesitated, then shook her head.
Miku: "Not as much… since you showed up."
Naruto smirked.
Naruto: "Tch. Guess I'm useful for something."
Miku frowned.
She didn't like when he talked about himself like that.
Miku: "…You're not just useful. You're… nice."
Naruto blinked.
Then he looked away, scratching his cheek.
Naruto (muttering): "…Tch. Whatever."
Miku smiled.
That reaction was cute.
And for once, she wasn't too shy to admit it.
