Tails is in a very dark place. Literally and figuratively. He probably hasn't eaten for several days. He is in much pain. It might not be too much of an exaggeration to say that he is on the very brink of death itself. But he is hanging on, if only by a mere strand.
"You see that Dr. Robotnik apology video?" he overhears one of the officers outside of his cell say.
"Yeah! Totally bonkers!" responds the other officer, "Who knew the guy had such a heart?"
"Right?" says the first officer, "We've been wrong about him this whole time!"
"I'd like to meet him one day, drink a beer with him," said the other officer, "Seems like my kind of guy."
"What are they saying?" thought Tails to himself, "They can't possibly be talking about Dr. Robotnik!"
See, Tails does not have a smartphone with Internet access. He was stripped of all of his belongings when he was taken into custody. So he has no way of watching the viral video with his own eyes.
He shivers in his cell thinking of what's to come in the event that Dr. Robotnik manages to turn the tables and position himself as a hero.
"God help us," he pleads.
