Song Rec: "Heaven Sent" by Movements. You know that I've recommended "Daylily" but this is yet another amazing one that I need to share. It's happy! Imagine that right? I figured, in light of what occurred last chapter, we needed a nice fun one. And what's better than a song about love and the feelings that come along with it. For the record, it's definitely about sex, but whatever. Happy song! Jokes aside, I absolutely love this song, and I think it's a great fit for what we've got coming up. Let me know what you think!
"What are we going to tell your hunt?" Percy asked rather suddenly. They'd been enjoying the aftermath of his little confession up in the Moon Chariot, but it seemed that something pressing had come up, "We probably have to tell them that we're together, right? Or at least about our feelings?"
"You are joking." Artemis cocked her head in amusement.
"I feel like you're more relaxed about this than you should be," Percy stressed a little, running a hand through his hair, "What're your hunters going to say?"
Artemis cocked her head for a moment, then laughed. Quite loudly too, "They have known about my feelings for you longer than you have. This will not be news to them."
"What?"
The moon goddess leaned her head against his shoulder, "Even if I did wish to hide my feelings, which I have never once attempted to do, I would not do that to my hunters. It was the same with Apollo."
"Wait, so they've known? For how long?" Percy asked incredulously.
"For many months at this point," Artemis paused, "Apollo was the first person I told, followed quickly by my hunters, and then your parents figured it out somewhere along the way I'm sure."
"My dad knows?" Percy groaned, "And I didn't?"
"You are an idiot," Artemis shrugged, "He seemed to have his suspicions when we spoke. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he knew."
"Fuck," Percy cursed before thinking a little harder about what the goddess had said, "Wait, my mom knows too?"
Artemis just laughed again and Percy grumbled, "She does. It seems that you, somehow, are the last to find out about my feelings for you."
"Damn."
"You got there in the end," The goddess smiled as she pulled him into her. There wasn't much space to move, but that was of no concern to either of them, "I wouldn't worry about telling anyone. We can move at our own pace. If they catch on, then they do."
"Are you sure?"
"They won't mind," Artemis said calmingly, running her hand against his arm, "I promise."
"That's good," Percy nodded, "That was one of my big hang-ups about asking you out, actually. I'm kinda happy to learn that I was worried for nothing."
Artemis smiled, "I appreciate the concern, but my having a partner and having the Hunt have never been mutually exclusive."
"Aphrodite mentioned something about that, actually," Percy said thoughtfully. Artemis looked at him curiously.
"Aphrodite?"
"Oh um, yeah," Percy shifted a little, "I needed some advice."
"What about?"
"Our date," Percy answered, "I needed someone who I could trust."
Artemis hummed interestedly, "You trust her?"
Percy shrugged, "Enough to keep a secret when it matters."
Artemis smiled at that, "That's good, though I admit I'm a little curious what you needed to ask her about."
"Well," Percy chuckled, looking down at his now partner, "you'll find out in a few days."
Artemis smiled at that, "I find myself wanting to know more about this date."
"Spoilers," Percy shook his head, "You'll just have to wait."
"Not even a hint?"
Percy shook his head with a smile, "Nope."
"Are you sure I couldn't convince you?" Artemis asked. She had that predatory look that he'd come to love, even if it still sent shivers up his spine at times.
"Nope," Percy looked away.
The goddess smirked before pulling him down to her so that he was forced to look at her, "You sure?"
Percy suddenly felt a little breathless, "Positive."
"You don't sound so sure."
"I'm not," he admitted, "What did you have in mind?"
"Spoilers."
Percy smiled as the goddess let him go. That was also before he started yawning, "I guess that's only fair."
"Are you tired?"
"Little bit," he admitted, "Are you?"
"I wouldn't mind laying down," she said easily. For some reason, he felt a little trill run up his spine as she spoke, "So long as you're joining me."
"It'd be a little silly to stop sleeping together after getting together, right?"
"Just making sure," Artemis smiled as she spoke, "That you know you can't escape me now."
"Wouldn't dream of it, Love."
"I think I'm still having a hard time convincing myself that this happened."
"Yeah. Me too," Percy agreed softly, "It's still a little surreal. I'm happy though."
"Agreed," Artemis smiled, "Bed then?"
"Sure."
A few moments later, they found themselves standing in her tent. A few moments after that, the goddess snapped her fingers and changed their clothes. And just after that, they were both lying down with the lights dimmed. Percy had to admit it felt a little odd due to the new waters they were now navigating. Artemis seemed to feel the same way as she shifted so that she was on her side, "This is a little strange, isn't it?"
"Yeah," Percy smiled softly, "But I think we'll get the hang of it. I'm following your lead."
"Are you?"
Percy nodded as he laid on his side so that they could face each other, "Yeah, why wouldn't I? No offense, but this isn't as new to me, so it's probably a little easier for me, you know? I don't want to make you uncomfortable or make you feel pressured in any way, so I'm following you."
The goddess smiled at that, "I wasn't worried about that. I trust you."
"I know, but I just wanted to make sure."
She moved a little closer to him and pecked him on the lips, "I appreciate it."
Percy smiled, enjoying the feeling of being in bed with his partner, "The bare minimum, you mean?"
"Shut up," Artemis laughed quietly as they laid there, "Just sit here and be a good pillow, yeah?"
"Sounds like a plan," Percy answered with a small chuckle, "You move me however you want me."
"As I usually do."
"Pretty much," Percy agreed as the goddess moved so that she could lay her head on his chest. He instinctively wrapped his free arm around her. She made a small, content noise.
"This is the first time that we've done this."
"Is it?"
"For me I suppose. Diana was the one who got to spend most of the time doing this, except for a few hours the first night we ever did."
Percy hummed, "I guess you're right."
"I'm rather relishing the feeling, I think," Artemis said gently, running a hand against his skin, "You're warm."
"Yeah?" Percy smiled, "I'm feeling a little less guilty about holding you right now, so I think I am too."
"Good," Artemis looked up so that they could see each other's faces, "I don't mind you touching me, you know? I might actually prefer it."
Percy smiled at that, "I'm sure. Still, it's hard to convince myself that I don't need to be wholly respectful."
Artemis smiled before kissing his sternum softly, "I'll stop you if I need. And you'll do the same."
Percy was content with that.
The next morning proceeded much the way it usually did. To neither of their surprise, Artemis was the first to wake up and subsequently was the first to move. Percy, currently dead to the world, wouldn't wake up for the next fifteen minutes. That left one goddess wholly alone to enjoy some of their newfound freedom. She would have been lying if she said that there hadn't been a little bit of a hang-up about how much contact she could get away with all those weeks ago in that hotel. Diana, of course, had cared less than she had and had been perfectly at home laying her head on his chest.
And, now, it seemed that Artemis was too - just for different reasons. Still, this was a rather new feeling to her and she was reveling in the warmth of her partner. Percy had moved remarkably little during the night as he'd been perfectly content to hold the Huntress against him. Currently, his head was tilted back, and his lips were slightly parted. Artemis resisted the urge to kiss him as she was both unwilling to wake him, and unwilling to part herself from him for even a moment. He still had an arm wrapped around her after all.
With that being said, she couldn't quite resist the urge to run her free hand - which was currently resting against his shoulder - through some of his hair. The goddess hardly had to move her hand as it was long enough to reach said shoulder. Part of her wondered if she could get away with brushing some of the hair that had fallen onto his face out of the way.
"Somebodies enjoying themselves."
That would be a resounding no.
Percy, despite what Artemis might have thought, had not awoken because of her and had instead simply stirred naturally. He, just like the goddess, was also unwilling to move much.
"How did you sleep?" His voice was ever so soft as he spoke in hushed, peaceful tones.
"Better, I think, than I have in a long time."
He smiled but didn't open his eyes, "Me too. You're very warm, you know."
"Funny," Artemis smiled against him, "I was thinking the same about you. Did I wake you?"
He shifted a little under her but made no other effort to move, "No. And I wouldn't have minded if you had."
"I'll remind you of that when I inevitably have to drag you out of bed," Artemis laughed softly and sweetly as she spoke.
"I was under the impression that we were going to waste the day away laying here," Percy's voice was a little deeper as it usually was in the mornings, and the goddess found it quite pleasant, "Are you saying you have other plans?"
"Breakfast, perhaps," Artemis said before adding something as an afterthought, "Though I suppose we could manage that right here if we wanted."
"We could," Percy agreed, finally opening his eyes. He rolled his neck a little bit before speaking again, "But we probably should show our faces today. The gods know that Thalia will have no issue poking her head in if she thinks we might be hiding."
"True," Artemis smiled, "I suppose that we'll have to get up at some point."
"But not right now."
"No."
"Good," Percy smiled as he let his head tilt all the way back against his pillow, eyes closed once more, "What should we do today?"
Artemis let her cheek rest against his chest while she ran a hand through his hair, "I haven't given it much thought other than a meal."
"Are you hungry?"
"I could eat," Artemis continued to run the tips of her fingers through his hair.
"Want to get up?"
"No," the goddess answered easily, "I'll be keeping you here for another fifteen minutes minimum."
"Oh okay," Percy chuckled softly and the goddess could feel the rumble of his chest as he did, "I was thinking we should do something fun today."
"What did you have in mind?"
"Well," Percy started, "I thought the girls might need something to cheer them up, recent events considered. And, I figured they might not want to do something at camp so I was thinking that we could do it at my home since it's private and I imagine that a beach party sounds fun. It'd be nice and easy, and we don't have to worry about anything since my home has protections and nobody-"
Percy, unknowingly, lowered his voice as he spoke, "And I do mean nobody - in their right mind would think of attacking it. It might just be a little bit of fun for them so that they don't get too hung up after everything, you know?"
Artemis, finally inspired to move, pushed herself up so that she could look at her partner. And then she kissed him rather passionately. When she finally pulled away, she noted that his cheeks were a rather pretty red.
He sort of stammered as he spoke, "Not that I am in any way complaining, but what brought that on?"
"Nothing in particular." The goddess, he noted, smiled radiantly, "And I think that's a lovely idea."
Percy let his head lean back as the goddess laid her head back down in the crook of his neck, "Oh that's good."
They sat in silence for a moment before she broke it, "I count myself blessed to have found you, Perseus."
"Oh," he smiled softly, "Thanks. Me too."
He could feel shift and was almost certain that she was smiling, "You don't know how to respond."
"Well," he pulled her against him a little tighter, "I wouldn't say that. But I wasn't expecting it for sure."
"No?"
"Nope. That being said, it makes me immensely happy to hear it. I imagine that you know exactly what I mean."
"I do," the goddess agreed, "It makes me immensely happy to hear how speak about the girls is all. And I know what you're going to say about that, but it's just something that I didn't realize I needed - which is slightly odd to say all things considered."
"I get it. It's not something you really thought about."
"But it's extremely gratifying to hear," Artemis finished, "So thank you. And, I should say that you are required to accept this, no matter what you might say about it being natural and how thanks are not required."
"I wasn't going to say that," Percy let his head lean back, eyes closed.
"Yes you were."
"Yeah. Probably."
The goddess smiled as she let herself settle completely into his side, basking in the new feeling. Percy, she could feel, was putting off heat not unlike a little furnace and the Huntress was quite enjoying it. The mornings were crisp - just cold enough that the blanket alone wasn't quite enough to fully suffice. Percy, naturally, was more than happy to make up the difference for the goddess. It was, as she was finding out, far too easy to indulge themselves in lounging about. Usually, she would have tried to be up and about - or at the very least she'd try to read - but today it was all too easy to be lazy.
It was a somewhat new feeling, but then again, so was their relationship. Percy certainly didn't seem to mind the extra time in bed, especially with the goddess curled up into him. Still, they eventually did rouse themselves. Artemis, though she wouldn't admit it outright, thought it might have even been a little too soon, but she'd heard his stomach growl and had finally sat up. She'd kept the blanket huddled around her as she did, and Percy made a small noise as the cool air hit his skin. That was to say, he was sorely missing the contact he'd just been robbed of.
It did, however, force him to sit up and go about the start of his day. He was in and out of the bathroom rather quickly, having brushed his teeth and washed his face and now feeling a little more refreshed. Artemis had changed while he was gone, and she looked to be wearing a thick pair black cargo pants and a matching, heavy black sweater that he knew as his. He just noted it with a smile before going to his bag to grab a change of clothes.
"Do you mind if I shower?"
"Not at all," Artemis said serenely, turning to smile at him as she sat on the bed, "Should we eat breakfast at your home? We could begin to plan a little more while we're there."
"Sounds good to me," Percy agreed.
It hadn't taken them long to get a general sense of what they wanted their little party to look like. As per usual, food was a necessity and the goddess had simply settled on summoning a large quantity of both finger foods and fixings that would keep them happy. Somewhere along the way, Percy had decided that a large fire would be necessary and he'd taken the time to collect a good quantity of wood. Artemis commented that he'd likely collected enough for them to keep the fire alight all night and he took that as a compliment.
Prior to setting up everything, they'd taken a moment to inform Thalia of the plans for the evening and the demigoddess had been quick to throw out a few suggestions. It was at her direction that Percy set one of his acoustic guitars by the door for easy access later. He imagined that Atalanta or one of the other daughters of Apollo would come by and lead them in song or something like that. It was rather common for music to be played in their off-time.
Thalia, on her own authority, had also informed them that she'd invited Nico and by extension, Will. Neither Percy nor Artemis had minded that in the slightest. Artemis held Nico in rather high regard after all, and Percy never needed a reason to include the person he considered to be a younger brother.
He was sure that there'd need to be a little introduction between the two other men and the hunters, but he wasn't particularly worried about it. The girls tended to be rather friendly and those two were both standup people anyhow.
"What would I have to do to convince you to play that strategy game we played a while ago?" Percy asked out of the blue, directing his question to the goddess who was otherwise distracted by a rather cute set of blankets inlaid with small crescent moons.
"Not much. I enjoyed the last time we played," She looked up at him, "When did you get these?"
Percy scratched at his cheek as he walked over to see what she was talking about, "Hestia dropped those off actually. She made them for me, and I really liked them."
Artemis smiled at that, "That's cute. You've mentioned Hestia making you things before."
"Yeah, she tends to make things and just drop them off. Blankets, stuffed animals, all sorts of things," Percy smiled as he recalled a few of the things she'd bestowed upon him, "She's motherly, you know?"
The goddess did indeed know, "Would you be surprised to know that she likely knew about my feelings before you did as well?"
"Not at all," Percy shook his head, "She tends to know whatever I'm thinking way before I do so that doesn't come as a surprise."
"That sounds like her."
"She always does seem to know things."
"Certainly the wisest of the Olympians, if you ask me."
"Really?"
"Hestia has always been someone to look to," Artemis shrugged, "I think that she has always been a positive influence. I recall once when I was a child that she managed to scold both of our fathers and Hades all at once. Likely the only person capable of getting away with it."
"Probably," Percy agreed with a smile, "She's pretty great."
"We should visit her some time. I'm sure she'd appreciate that."
He smiled a little wider at that, "Sounds like a great idea."
"Good," Artemis nodded before turning back to the set of blankets. She stared at them for a moment before moving towards the tv. If she recalled, and she did, Percy usually kept his board games in some cabinets below the fixture where the tv was mounted. It took her a moment to fish the game they'd been talking about out as she was temporarily distracted by what looked like an add-on to the game.
"What's this?"
Percy looked up from the book he'd been distracted by, "Oh just some extra stuff. Makes the map larger and adds some extra trading stuff. Want to do that too?"
"Sure," Artemis agreed amicably.
"Makes it easier for more people to play, in case anyone wants to join us," Percy explained as the goddess stood up with the boxes in hand, "In case any of the girls want to join or anything like that."
The Huntress smiled to herself again but didn't comment further. She did, however, pull him by the sleeve towards the front door. Percy followed happily and watched as the goddess set down the game on the deck table. Coincidentally, this was where they found themselves situated a few hours later, basking in the last light of the setting sun.
It'd taken them a little bit to explain what exactly they had planned, but it had been extremely well received. Artemis, somewhat expecting her girls to readily take to it, hadn't been the least bit surprised when a majority of the younger ones and even some of the older ones jumped at the opportunity to see where it was that Percy lived. They were quite enthused at the prospect of getting to explore his home and poke their noses in places they probably shouldn't. Percy had just laughed at that prospect and said that they were welcome to go anywhere they pleased.
Now, they had been a little surprised to see the size of his home. It was, admittedly, larger than he probably needed. Then again, it was a gift from an Olympian - his own father no less - and therefore was "required" to be somewhat grand. Still, it wasn't a mansion or anything, but the floor plan sprawled out rather nicely. It was just a little bigger than what they had expected him to own. It was larger than he had expected to own as well, but that was neither here nor there.
At the very least, it meant there was plenty of space for the girls to explore. More than a few were happily racing around inside, some were watching a movie on the tv, a good handful were enjoying the beach, and a few (who Percy assumed to be daughters of Demeter) were investigating the small garden he had. All in all, everyone was happy - including the two others that had been invited. And he was rather happy as well.
Percy had been interested to see them appear out of the shadows of the front porch, but he'd welcomed them readily. Will, apparently not realizing that the Hunters were there as well, was a little surprised. Some of the girls were also surprised and had eyed the two curiously. Instead, several people, namely the two men, Artemis, and Thalia, were seated at the table. Percy had gone to grab a small speaker so they could all listen to music while they played their little board game. Of course, while he was gone, there was the requisite amount of shit talk between Thalia, Nico, and Will while the goddess of the Hunt watched amusedly.
"Well, if anyone asks, I'll introduce you as a son of Apollo and second best healer in camp."
"Second?" Will cocked his head, "Behind who?"
"That would be her," Thalia pointed over towards Atalanta who was now walking up next to Percy. The two were chatting amicably as they made their way towards the table as Percy had managed to convince her to join them at the table.
Will, to his credit, nodded somewhat dejectedly, "Yeah okay fair enough."
Thalia just laughed as the other two sat down. Percy, speaker in hand, sat down at Artemis's side and set it down in the middle of the deck table, "Who hasn't played?"
Atalanta, expectedly, was the only person to raise her hand. Percy let Nico explain the rules to her while he helped set up the board. It was a lot larger than he was used to, but it was better that way. There were too many people to play on the original size board unless they wanted to team up. That idea had been shot down quickly, even though there were the perfect amount of people for it. As Percy and Nico pointed out, what was the point of having a custom made board for more people if they weren't going to use it?
Percy, now having finished the set up, looked over towards the goddess who was watching happily as her various hunters did whatever struck their fancy, "I'm glad they're enjoying themselves."
She nodded, "This was a good idea."
"I thought so," Percy agreed, "the question is how long will it be before they tire themselves out?"
"Hard to say," Artemis shrugged, "Would you like to get in the water later?"
Percy chuckled as he fiddled with one of the edges of the board, "Course. It's been a while since you and I have."
"True," Artemis agreed, "I think we're starting."
"Oh good," Percy moved his chair in so that he was a little closer to the board. He wanted to give it a quick once over before they started, just so he could plan a little bit of how he wanted to play. And Percy tried. He really did. But Artemis had laid her hand on his under the table and Percy had suddenly found it harder to think. And sure, he was somewhat used to her doing such things, but he couldn't help but focus on it a little bit. It was a little brazen, which made sense, but damn did he not expect it.
Artemis seemed to notice, and subtly leaned in to whisper to him, "You're supposed to be paying attention."
So she was messing with him then. Fair enough. He, with his free hand, rolled the dice. Even if the goddess was messing with him, she couldn't exactly influence dumb luck. He'd managed to roll highest, which meant he got to pick first. Lovely. He, just for good measure, squeezed her hand softly as she rolled. Percy was almost certain that her smile widened a little, but it was hard to see given that he was sitting next to her.
Luckily, she let him confirm it by glancing over to him while the others went about their turns. Percy couldn't help but ask, "Think anyone will notice?"
He watched the moon goddess stop herself from laughing, "If you keep mentioning it, someone probably will."
"Fair," Percy whispered back. Luckily, it seemed that nobody seemed to be paying them much attention. They were, in all fairness, at one of the most important parts of the game. He, having high rolled, got to choose first and that had let him check out just a little while the others rolled and decided. How lucky of him.
Thalia groaned as he took what he presumed to be her ideal spot, but he chose to ignore that as he surveyed the board again. There were plenty of alright spots to choose from after, so he didn't mind picking first and last this time. That being said, there were only a few really good ones, so he figured it best to snatch one up as quickly as possible. Artemis seemed to be following the same train of thought and had elected to pick right after him. After that was Nico, but Percy wasn't sure about the order after that. They'd let him know when it was his turn for last pick anyway.
"I can't help but notice," Atalanta said dryly, "That I've done the exact opposite of the person who's probably the best at the game."
"You're fine," Nico was the person to respond, "You've chosen the safest option possible so I wouldn't worry. A good amount of this game is going to be luck too."
Artemis nodded easily, "And I think that Nico and Percy would be happy to give you advice if you asked for it."
"Why Percy?" Thalia asked.
"Because he's the best here," Nico shrugged.
Thalia looked over at Nico, then at Percy, "Really?"
"Probably," Will nodded, "Surprising right?"
"First off," Percy laughed, "Fuck you. Second, Nico's definitely just being humble."
Nico just smiled as they shot back and forth a little more, but he made sure to quietly remind them that they did, in fact, have to start the game in full. Percy had just smiled happily before taking the dice and rolling them, sending them off into their own little world for the next little while as everyone played.
They were, of course, interrupted precisely once by some of the younger hunters who'd come up to Artemis and Percy to ask about the things in the garage. Artemis, to Percy's amusement, had declared each of the vehicles off limits to them, though the son of the sea secretly wondered if they'd attempt to mess with them anyway. He thought that was quite a funny idea, though he did make sure not to mention it to her.
"You know I don't mind, right?" Percy asked the goddess.
"Yes I know," the goddess confirmed, "But the girls don't need to get any ideas about your truck or bike."
"Or car."
"Car?" Artemis, who'd just rolled, had turned to look at him curiously as the next person played on.
"Lost a bet to Apollo. I didn't tell you?"
"No you didn't."
"Sorry," Percy rubbed the back of his head, "I guess it slipped my mind then."
The goddess laughed quietly at that, "And that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. What did he give you?"
"Remember that one we drove when we went monster hunting?" Percy asked as he surveyed the board, "It's that one. I think you really liked it."
"I did," she confirmed, "What bet did you lose?"
Percy scratched at his cheek, "Oh you know."
"Let me guess," the Huntress smirked, "Coin toss."
"Unfortunately," Percy said dryly. He took another moment to take the cards offered to him before turning back to the goddess, "You'd think that I'd know better."
"I suppose I can't fault you," Artemis took a few cards as well, "I did teach him that after all."
"Really?"
"It's a little different for me than it is for him, but yes," The goddess explained, "We came up with it when we were kids."
"Figures," Percy chuckled quietly before they both turned their attention back to the game.
Woah. The first chapter of them being a couple. How fun. It was a ton of fun to just mess around a little in terms of writing this chapter. It was a very feel good sort of thing for me. Hope you guys enjoy!
