Ethan turned Jordan on her side as she seized, the urgency pressing down on him like a heavyweight. He knew he couldn't leave her and needed help immediately. Rushing to the elevator door, his heart pounding in his chest, he managed to pry it open just enough to call for help, every second ticking by like an eternity.
As Ethan looked around, a sense of isolation and vulnerability engulfed him. They were trapped in the darkness, the only light coming from his phone's flashlight. The entire ED was pitch dark, and the backup generators failed to kick in. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, the only source of light in the eerie silence, and flashed it towards the ED, hoping for a sign of help.
"Hello?! I'm stuck in the elevator with Jordan! She's seizing!" Ethan's voice echoed in the empty ED, filled with a desperate plea for help and fear for Jordan's life.
"Ethan?" Will called, running over. "What's going on?"
"Jordan's seizing, high fever, vomiting, and spitting up blood. It looks like a possible relapse. Her pupils were dilated; if she is using, she won't say what it is. I don't know how to treat her."
"I'll be back, hold on."
"Hurry, Will"
Will ran to one of the treatment rooms and started grabbing stuff for Ethan. He put everything he could find in a small container: an IV line, a bag of fluids, Narcan, Benzodiazepines, and other essentials. Then, he ran back to the elevator.
"Ethan, here," Will said, trying to put the container through the tight space of the elevator door.
Ethan quickly got it. "Thanks. How long till the generators are on?"
"I don't know; Ms. Goodwin is on it. Is there anything I can do to help?"
"I'm gonna draw some of Jordan's blood when the power returns. I need you to take it to the lab and have them test it. And help us get out of here; I don't know what's going on with Jordan, and I don't know what kind of time she has."
"Consider it done."
Ethan then had the flashlight in the enclosed elevator as he began working on treating Jordan. He had hooked her up to the IV lines and watched as the fluids worked their way into her body. He then started administering the benzodiazepine for the seizure, and soon, the shaking had stopped.
As the teen remained unconscious, Ethan had taken this chance to draw some of her blood from her carefully and put it in a vial. He watched as the dark red blood filled the small glass vial; once he had just enough, he quickly pulled the needle out and covered it.
"Will, here. It's her blood." Ethan's fingers held out the vial between the tight elevator door.
"Got it." Will took the vial and put it in his pocket. "I'll work on a way to get you guys out. Should I notify Hank?"
"Yes, he needs to be here. If anything, he may tell us if Jordan relapsed or not."
"I'm on it."
Ethan turned back to Jordan and watched as the fluids slowly began hydrating her again.
"Oh, kiddo, what have you gotten into?" Ethan asked quietly, feeling helpless as Jordan was unconscious and they were trapped.
Will had been far enough away as he called Hank. "Hank, it's Will. I know it's a bad time to call, but something happened. You need to get to Med as soon as you can."
