Britt's car wasn't in the driveway by the time Maja pulled up, so she parked on the street. The weather hadn't improved much on the drive home, furthering her already dampened mood. Making her way inside, Alessia was not in sight, though Maja overheard her in her bedroom. Hanging her keys up and putting her stuff on the counter, she grabbed a snack and went into her bedroom, stopping in the middle of it, still at a loss.

Squeezing her eyes and rubbing her face, Maja contemplated on what to do, her whole body lagging and feeling heavy. She sighed and plopped on her bed, taking out her phone and clearing out notifications.

She saw the text Alessia had sent, the link to the news story they saw on the news before Maja left. She clicked the link, taking her to NRK's website, where the headline hadn't changed, though just underneath it read "Updating story". She scrolled down, skimming the article with mild interest. Archaeology hadn't been something she was that interested in, but once in a while, something would pique her interest, and it seemed that this discovery was a big deal.

The article detailed how NOAA scientists had been investigating active fissures and underwater volcanic activity in the area where the remains were discovered, echoing what Alessia had informed her of earlier that morning. It also mentioned how this area was believed to be a site for a collapsed volcano, and based on geologic activity, those suspicious had some credence. However, the focus shifted when a Viking-era grave was discovered near an underwater sinkhole, which was described to be "extremely unusual" by an on-site historian and archaeologist. They were interviewed and questioned why this location was unusual, and they explained that Viking-era graves had never been discovered this far out at sea.

Could it have been washed out by underwater currents?— The reporter had asked.

Extremely unlikely, we have never recorded underwater currents capable of pushing sunken ships this far out and this deep. We have reason to believe this grave was intentionally sunk in this area.

Could there be anything valuable in the grave? Are there any mentions of Viking graves being out at sea?

Yet to be determined so early on in this discovery. Due to the depth and the risks involved, this will be a difficult excavation and recovery. We don't know who this grave belongs to or if they were a high-class individual or not. There are many possibilities for why this grave is here, when exactly it was sunk, and if there is any evidence as to who is buried down there. There's much more to come as we investigate.

A gentle knock interrupted her reading as Alessia entered her room, her usual enthusiasm replaced with concern.

"Hey, you were so quiet coming in, I didn't realize you were home already." The redhead took a seat at Maja's desk, knowing something was up.

"Yeah… sorry, I didn't wanna bother you."

"C'mon, you couldn't bother me. What's going on? Is the weather messing you up again?" Maja sighed, rolling onto her back.

"Not… exactly. It's not the main reason I guess." Alessia watched her closely.

"I was offered the job," Maja said, to which Alessia's eyes widened, "but I said no."

"Wait- what? Why? You were so excited-"

"I know I was! I don't know why I said no!" Maja interjected, choking up. She turned to Alessia again, suddenly embarrassed, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell. I just- I can't… explain it."

"What happened? Were you uncomfortable or something?"

"That's not it… something- something came over me. I don't know how to explain it." Maja stood and went to her dresser, removing her streaked makeup as she explained the series of events to Alessia, who listened intently. She was rarely this quiet as Maja then revealed the utterly bizarre 'interaction' with a living wave.

"I- I don't even know if I can call it an 'interaction', but that's the only word I can think of! I've never seen anything like it. It touched my hand, and there was this… glowing swirl left behind! It was like it was communicating with me." Maja sniffed, wiping her nose as she stood against her dresser, her mind still reeling.

"God, I know I sound crazy…" she mumbled.

"No… not at all," Alessia replied just as softly, her voice tinged with awe. She opened her mouth to say something else when the door opening and slamming shut interrupted her. Both women glanced at each other; Britt was home, and she never slammed the door.

Something was up.

The two rushed out of Maja's bedroom to greet their roommate and shivered upon entering the hall.

"Britt! You okay?" Getting to the living area, Britt was seen muttering to herself as she was flipping through a book. A light snow was falling, dusting Britt's platinum blonde hair and the floor beneath her.

Maja and Alessia glanced at each other in concern.

Their roommate, Bridgit Kristensen, preferably Britt, was perhaps the most unique individual Maja had ever known. The oldest of the three at 26, she was the most mature and responsible, if rather firm. The older woman was a descendant of one of Norway's most influential figures of the 19th century; Queen Elsa, former queen of Arendelle, and later known as the Snow Queen, or Fifth Spirit, depending on whom you asked.

How did she wind up in a quaint little house with two roommates just outside of Oslo? She wanted nothing to do with the royal title her ancestors bore. A woman with a complicated and messy family history that also had to do with the powers she was born with, just like her predecessors. The ability over ice and snow, passed down to her from her maternal line, beginning with Queen Elsa.

It was because of Maja that the three women were roommates, with Maja having met Britt by chance at a library, and Britt preferring a quiet life out of the public eye.

Britt's great-great-great grandmother had abdicated the Arendellian throne in the 1940s when the Nazis invaded Norway, forcing the royal family to flee out of fear of being persecuted for their abilities, acutely aware of what the Nazis were capable of and what they had been doing in Europe already.

She was intimately aware of her family's history, and what they had endured over 180 years since Queen Elsa's reign, and she felt something deep within her bones that something was happening.

Britt spun to face the girls, her cool icy blue eyes wide, her appearance quite jarring, especially with the permanent dark circles under Britt's eyes that made her irises all the more striking.

"Do you not hear that call?" Came her question. A pause as both Alessia and Maja were at a loss as to what she meant.

"A call? From where?" Britt began furiously pacing, snow swirling around her fingers.

"Britt-"

"Do not tell me to calm down." She hissed, "Something's happened. I don't know what, but I can feel it."

"Something bad?"

"No. I don't know how to describe it, but my powers can sense… something."

"Um… the only things that have happened today are the Viking discovery and Maja's interview-" Alessia began before Maja aggressively jabbed her in the ribs to stop her "Ow!". Britt turned to the girls again, raising an eyebrow.

"What are you talking about?" Alessia went to turn on the TV to NRK, and sure enough, the same headline from earlier that morning popped up again. Britt made a face of understanding before gesturing for Maja to speak up.

"Your interview?" Maja began twiddling with her thumbs, embarrassed to tell her friend about her failure.

"I uh…" she paused, "I was offered the… job."

"And?" Maja couldn't make eye contact as she revealed her decision, Britt's eyes widening.

"What? Why?"

"I don't know! Something… changed. Something I can't explain."

"Tell her what you told me. What you saw." Alessia piped up from the couch. Swallowing, Maja once again relayed the events of the morning to Britt, and as she got to the part about the wave, a surge of something within her rose like a tidal wave, ebbing and flowing, the melodic hum returned, and Britt's eyes widened. The platinum blonde was silent as she turned to face the window that looked out to the rest of their local town and the distant mountains. She narrowed her eyes, eyebrows knitted together in focus as she contemplated what to say.

"Britt-"

"Shh." The intensity vanished from Britt's face, replaced by something calmer, and more aware, "something's calling."

"I don't hear a phone-" Alessia began, before being cut off by a shot of ice towards her hand.

"I know that sound…" Britt whispered in awe.

"Wait… you hear it, too?" A slow nod.

Britt knew the melody she heard, recalling its description from her late grandfather, who had told her the story behind it as a child. He had said that one day, when the world needed the Fifth Spirit, Ahtohallen would call to her.

She reached the small deck adjacent to the living room, pulled open the sliding door, and belted out an "Ahhhh ahhhhhh" in the direction of the distant mountains, startling the girls.

"Britt! What're you doing!"

"It's called the 'Kulning'." Within moments of Britt's response, the disembodied call echoed in her and Maja's ears.

"Ahtohallen is calling…" Britt realized.
