PROLOGUE CHAPTER 003
TSUKIKO'S POV:
As we all walked in silence (well except for little Grim who is still trying to free itself) down the hallways we soon came upon a huge doorway which is slightly open. As we got closer we could hear voices murmuring, we even overheard a some male voices saying:
"Listen up, students. Here in Heartslabyul, I am the rules. Break them and it's off with your head."
"….Ugh. The stuffy ceremony is finally over. We're going back to the dorm. Savanaclaws, follow me."
"To the new students, congratulations on entering this academy. Enjoy your life here to its fullest. As the dorm leader of Octavinelle, I will support you to the best of my ability."
"By the way, where did the Dean go? He flew out right in the middle of the ceremony…."
"Abandoning his post…."
"Did he get a stomach ache or something?"
BLAM
All 3 of us jumped a bit as Mr Crowley slammed the door open and entering, looking a little annoyed at the last comment.
"Not at all!" He said
"He's here." Said a red haired young man, who was wearing the same robes as we have.
"I cannot believe you all." Mr. Crowley said sternly, "we were missing 3 new students and so I went out to find them."
My sister and I scanned the room and we could see it was the room where we ran out off when we were trying to escape from Grim. It was now filled with what appears to be students all dressed in ceremonial robes like us. I suddenly grew nervous as I noticed all the students were boys. I slowly and silently held on my older sister's sleeves. She noticed my reaction and linked arms with mine for comfort. I felt a bit better thankfully.
Mr. Crowley turned to us as he said, "You three are the only ones yet to be assigned a dormitory. I shall watch over the raccoon. All three of you should step in front of the Dark Mirror."
My sisters and I looked at each other before we silently agreed to do as the Masked man said. We slowly approached what seems like a giant floating mirror. We gazed in awe as we saw in the reflection A hollow masked face surrounded by green flames.
"State thy names" the mirror spoke.
We broke free from our stupor state and slowly pulled down our hoodies. From behind us we could hear gasps and whispers among the male students.
"Wait, are those girls?"
"I thought this was an all boy's school."
"Who the heck are they?"
My face grew red by their remarks. We looked up again at the mirror man as it asked again.
"State thy Names!"
"Himari Akari" said our older sister.
"T-Tsukiko Akari" I whispered softly
"Hoshiko Akari" our younger sister said in a more cheerful tone.
There was silence in the room, the mirror man looking very intently at us as if he was analyzing us. He finaly spoke:
"Himari Akari…. Tsukiko Akari… and Hoshiko Akari…. The shape of thy souls are….. I do not know"
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
"Come again?"Mr. Crowley asked.
"Although I sense a spark from these three, there seems to be some sort of shadow hiding it. The color, the shape… I can neither define nor detect it." The mirror stated, "Therefore, they are suited for no dormitory." With that, the face vanishes and mirror became black. All of us were silent. Soon the silence was broken by whispers again.
"Ha, I knew it was mistake… there was no way they would allow non-magic users into the school. Especially girls."
"Yeah, they must a hitched a ride or something."
"Too bad… they're kinda cute."
My heart sank at his words, it is strange but what he said reminded me of when we were little at Yukime Obachan's wake. We could hear her distant relatives all arguing about who will be letting us stay with them. It hurts a lot as it feels like we were going to be rejected again.
I looked at my sisters, Himari seems rather confused while Hoshiko looked a bit down by what the mirror said. Mr. Crowley on the other hand looks more perplexed as he said, "An Ebony Carriage would absolutely never go to meet someone who can't use magic. In 100 years, there has not been once a mistake in student selection. So why in the world…."
"What do we do now Neesan?" I whispered to Himari. Looking around in worry.
"Everything will be okay," Himari reassured me, "we'll figure something out."
"MMMMPH…. PWAH…. THEN I'LL TAKE THEIR PLACE"
We all quickly turned around to see Grim, who has managed to free itself from its bounds, quickly flies a bit higher above us.
"Stay right there! Raccoon!" Mr. Crowley warned the little creature, his cord in hand.
"Unlike those dumb humans, I can use magic! Let me in the school instead!" smirked Grim. "If you need proof, I'll show you right now!" Grim then started to take a deep breath.
"Ah crap!" cried Himari knowing exactly what it was about to do.
"Everyone get down!" said the same red-haired boy as he seems to already know what will happen next.
"FNNNAAAGH"
FFFWOOOM
Grim breathed a big burst of blue flame. All of us ducked to avoid it unfortunately one of the students wasn't so fortunate.
"WAAAH! HOT! MY BUTTS ON FIRE!" Screamed a white haired boy. His rear end got caught by Grim's flames.
I covered my mouth and gasped at the chaos that is unfolding, while Himari was gaping in shock. Hoshiko on the other hand was laughing at the site.
All the students were scrambling around, some trying to catch Grim, others trying to help the white haired boy. However he was moving so frantically no on can come close to him. Mr. Crowley was looking more irritated. He scowled and said, "At this rate, the school will be a sea of fire! Somebody catch that raccoon!"
"Che! Suck ups!"
I turned to see a student with long brown hair standing in the corner not doing anything. He looked rather bored, which surprises me… then another student with blond hair talks to him saying "Hmmm? Aren't you good at hunting? Doesn't it look like a nice plump snack?"
EH?! D-Did he just say "snack"?! Do they eat creatures like Grim?
The brown haired man yawned and shook his head looking even more irritated as he said, "Why me? Do it yourself."
I looked back at Mr. Crowley who was getting more and more angry, another student approaches him, this time this one was silver haired and wearing glasses. Like the other two he didn't seem phased by the chaos that is happening, in fact he looked calm and a little eager, "Professor Crowley," he said, "please leave this to me. I'm sure the others couldn't stomach harassing the poor creature, so I will take it upon myself."
"That's Azul for you." A whispery voice said on what looks like some sort of phone, "Always trying to earn himself points."
Oh dear, what kind of students are these, why don't they just help?
"Umm, hey, could someone help put out my butt fire already!?"
I turned and was about to help the poor boy when Hoshiko stepped forward and cheerfully told him, "You need to drop on the floor and roll over until the fire is out!" The boy looked at my sister in confusion but quickly did as she said and it was a good thing too. After the fire was put out the boy slowly got up some of the students helping him as he sighed in relief. He looked at my sister and gave her an ok sign while saying thanks.
"Are you all even listening!" Mr. Crowley cried in frustration.
The brown haired man crossed his arms as he said in a bored tone, "If it's just catching some stupid raccoon, can't you do it yourself, Teach?"
"HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, I'M NOT A RACCOON!" Grim growled. "The one that will become the greatest Magician of all will be Yours Truly!"
The boy with glasses scoffed and said "It certainly has moxie." He looked at the red-haired boy and asked "Care to help me, Riddle?"
The boy (who is called Riddle) looks up at annoyance at the chaos that Grim is causing. "I can't overlook those who break the rules. Let's hurry and get this over with."
I really wonder what we can do to stop Grim. Suddenly I realized my older sister has been quiet for some time. And if she's quiet, that would mean….
I slowly turned to look at her, and my fears were right, my sister was looking really pissed off. "N-Neesan?" I nervously asked. She then slowly took off one of her sandals, I then realized what she was about to do. She took a deep breath before screaming "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU STUPID RACCOON!" all of us gasped as she hurled her sandal hitting the little creature straight in the face.
WHAP
"OW!" Grim said, he looked dizzy from the impact and was floating down.
"OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
A flash occurred and suddenly a heart-shaped collar appeared around Grim's neck.
"NYAAAH!" He cried, "What the heck is this?!"
The boy named Riddle took a step forwards as he spoke, "Laws of Queen of Hearts number 23. One shall never bring a cat into a festival. You being a cat means you've broken the rule. I shall have you leave at once."
"I'M NOT A CAT!" snarled an angry Grim, "I'll burn this collar right up and…." He took a deep breath but nothing happened, looking confused he said, "E-Eh? I CAN'T USE MY FIRE!"
Riddle then smirked as he said "Hmph! You won't be using any magic until I remove the collar. Just like an ordinary cat."
I could already see Grim's fur bristling in anger as he glares at Riddle, "Wh- what!? I'm not some pet!"
"Don't worry." Riddle continued, "I'd never keep a pet like you. I'll take it off anyway when you get thrown out."
The boy with the glasses started to clap his hand as he remarked, "Wow, as wonderful as ever. Any and all magic gets sealed by your Unique Magic, Riddle." His friendly smile soon turned a little eerie as he said in an even quieter tone, "I want it." I felt a slight shiver at his look, but then he quickly reverted back to his friendly expression as he said, "No…. I wouldn't ever want that cast on me." He then turned to look at us (especially directly more at Himari) as he continued, "and you my dear…. That was a rather impressive move. I must say it was an unexpected feat you did for such a fair beauty as yourself."
Himari just crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. That's my sister for you, she is never the type to fall for any form of flattery, not even from good looking boys.
Mr. Crowley also turned to our direction as he scolded, "You must do something about this! It is your familiar! Properly discip…"
"JUST READ MY LIPS MISTAH! THAT LITTLE FURBALL ISN'T OURS!" My sister yelled, looking fed up. Mr. Crowley and some of the students were taken aback by Himari's outburst. Hoshiko just shrugged I just looked on nervously. The Boy with the long brown hair gave a slight smirk, he seems to be impressed that someone actually talked back at the principal. Both Riddle and the boy with blond hair frowned in disapproval. I could hear the voice from the device saying in a shaky voice, "S-S-Scary…."
"I-It's not yours?" Mr. Crowley asked.
Himari took a deep breath and finally calmed down before she spoke, "How many times do we need to tell you?"
"Y-You did…"said Mr. Crowley, he looked a bit embarrassed (I kinda felt a little sorry for him), "Aherm…Anyway let's get it out of the school at any rate." He said regaining composure. "We won't be turning you into a stew. For I am gracious." He then turned to one of students, "Someone help, please."
One of the bigger sized students holds Grim by the collar. It's little legs moving wildly as it was being dangled in mid-air. The student then gave a nod to the principal before heading out with Grim who is still screaming, "GYAAAH! LET ME GO! I'm going to…. Nnnggh…Going to…. BECOME THE GREATEST MAGICIAN!"
SLAM
With that… they were gone. At least it was over… but…
"I kinda feel sorry for him…." I said.
"Yeah… but he really was asking for it." Huffed Himari.
"Still it was a rather funny scene to watch" said Hoshiko cheerfully, "really wished I had my phone to capture it on video."
Mr. Crowley then coughs again to grab everyone's attention before he says, "We had a bit of trouble along the way… but this brings the entrance ceremony to a close." He then looked the students who I realize now must be the Dorm leaders…. "Dormitory Leaders, please show the new students back to the dormitories." He paused and looked around before continuing, "hmmm? Now that I think about it, I don't see the leader for Diasomnia, Mr. Draconia around at all…"
It was then the room began to fill again with whispers and gasps.
How strange, was this Mr. Draconia someone famous?
The brown haired boy shrugged nonchalantly, "That's no different from usual, is it?"
"What? Did nobody tell him about the ceremony?" the white haired boy said.
"If you're going to complain, you should have done it yourself." The blond haired boy remarked.
"Hmmm…."replied the white haired boy, "But I don't really know anything about that guy."
The whispers around the room grew more and more…
"B-By Draconia… do they mean that 'Malleus Draconia'?" one student whispered.
"Is he seriously attending this school?" another student asked
"scary…"
Whoever this person was, almost everyone seems to be afraid of him. My sisters and I just looked at each other and stayed quiet. All of a sudden a student stepped forward, he looked a bit too young perhaps around middle school. I could see from under his hood that he had black hair with purple streaks, pale face and eyes that looked like rubies.
"I was correct." He said. I was a bit surprised as his voice sounded a little older. "I though he might come, but Malleus really didn't. It seems the invitation 'never arrived' again."
"My deepest apologies." The one with glasses spoke looking apologetic, "I promise we didn't intend to exclude you."
Riddle just said, "His aura makes it hard to approach him."
The kid-like student just shook his head slightly before smiling, "It's fine." He then turned to a group of students as he said, "Members of the Diasomnia dormitory can come with me…." He then muttered, "I hope this doesn't upset him…"
Before he left with the other students he looked at us and gave a mysterious smile before winking at us. I couldn't help but blush. He may look so young but, he was quite handsome.
Soon the other students were heading out, some still glancing at us while others were giving us winks and mouthing words like "call me" or "lets hang out". I couldn't help but laugh nervously at them.
I then see the dorm leaders leaving as well.
The blond haired one looked at us and also left but not before giving Himari a disapproving look.
The white haired boy gave a friendly wave at us and even mouthed a "Thank you again" at Hoshiko, who giggled and waved back.
The one with glasses gave a flirty smirk and slight bow to us before leaving.
The one with long brown hair glanced at us before heading out (it kinda scared me, he looked like he wanted to eat us.)
Riddle was looking at us curiously before giving a dismissive sigh and heads out as well.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
The room was now empty the exception of Me and my sisters and Mr. Crowley.
He looked at us sadly as he began to say, "Well young ladies… I'm terribly sorry about this but…. We must have you leave the school. Those without any talent for magic cannot be allowed to attend class here."
"We understand." I said.
I could see that both Hoshiko and Himari looked a bit disappointed about it. To be honest, I also felt a little sad but it's only right. We don't belong here.
"There is no need to worry." Mr. Crowley reassured us. "The Dark Mirror will send you 3 directly back from whence you came from."
"Well, that's a relief." Himari said.
Mr. Crowley nodded and gestured us to stand in front of the Magic Mirror again. "All you need to do is enter the Gate and picture your home clearly in your mind…."
All three of us stood in front of the mirror and held our hands. We all took a deep breath as we closed our eyes. Images of Tokyo… our school…. Our home…. Well… if you can call it home. Memories of our relatives always yelling and scolding us… our classmates either ignoring us or bullying us…. I know it is not what you can call a good life, but it is where we really belong. It will be all right, as long as my sisters and I are together… anywhere can be considered home.
"Oh Dark Mirror!" Crowley chanted, "Guide these maidens back to the place they belong!"
"….."
It was silent for a while I slowly peaked an eye open and saw we were still here. Mr. Crowley looked surprised as he said, "A-Ahem…. Once more… Oh Dark Mirror! Guide these…"
"It is nowhere!"
We opened our eyes and looked at the Mirror in shock.
"Eh?" we all said.
"The place they belong is nowhere in this world…." The mirror stated, "It does not exist!"
"HUUUUH?!" Himari cried out. We looked absolutely stunned. What did he mean it does not exist?!
"What did you say? This is unbelievable" exclaimed Mr. Crowley, he then turned to the side as he muttered, "Hmmm… well, the unbelievable has been on parade today."
We looked at each other in confusion and then looked at Mr. Crowley who turned back to look at us. "This is the first time it's ever happened since I became dean. What should be…." He said, still looking in disbelief. He looked at us and asked "Where exactly did you 3 come from?"
Himari still looked a bit dumbfounded over the situation so I cleared my throat and said, "Well you see sir…. We are from…" I began to tell the Dean about our home in Tokyo, our school and the events that occurred to us before we woke up to this place. Mr. Crowley listened to us intently. He looked especially sympathetic when I told him about Atsu and her friends and what they did to me and my sisters.
"I am truly sorry to hear about what happened to you three, such incidents should never have happened to young ladies such as yourselves…. Alas, though I've never heard of such a place." He said, "I have a general grasp of where all the students come from but I've never even heard of that name before."
"Let's do some reseach in the library."
We nodded and followed him out. I could still feel the Magic Mirror eerily silently watching us.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
We were back in the library, even though I should be worried I couldn't help but be amazed at all the books I could see. Oh how I wish I could stay and read them…. No…. not right Tsukiko…. Now is not the time to be thinking of such selfish thoughts….
Mr. Crowley was scanning a large book all the while shaking his head. Finally he said, "There really isn't anything! Not only the world map, but the name of your home isn't written in any history."
"No way!" Himari cried out. We gathered around Mr. Crowley looking at the books. He was right, we can't find anything about our home anywhere in the pages.
"Are you truly from where you say you are?" Mr. Crowley asked looking at us suspiciously, "You aren't lying to me by chance?"
"WHY THE HECK WOULD WE MAKE UP SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!" Himari yelled. Mr. Crowley had to move away from her as he rubbed his sore ear. "Right, Right my apologies…." He said, "looking at all this, you may have somehow been brought here from another planet…. There's also the possibility that you're from another world."
"WHAT!?" Himari exclaimed.
"Another world?" I gasped.
"So cool!" Hoshiko said, "It's just like in an isekai manga story!"
Mr. Crowley continued… "what did you girls have on you when you came here? Do you have any identification, like a license for a magic care, name on a shoe…"
We all shook our heads, Himari added, "truth is Sir, this was not even the clothes we were wearing when we came here." She wave her ams a bit to show her flowing robes.
"Yes… well you appear to be empty handed." Mr. Crowley said. He then began to look deep in thought as he said, "this is concerning. I can't just let someone who can't use magic stay at school."
I closed my eyes nervously, my hand clasped together near my chest, awaiting for him to ask us to leave the school. My mind filled with worries… where could we possibly go? What will happen to us?
I suddenly opened my eyes as I felt a warm hand gently patting my head, I look up to see Mr. Crowley who was patting my head and giving me a warm smile, "However, as an educator, I can't just toss penniless teenagers, most especially young girls, out on the street with no form of communication. For I am gracious."
I couldn't help but smiled as tears of joy started to form at my eyes…. "Really!?" Himari exclaimed who also looked just as relieved as I am.
Mr. Crowley then place his hand under his chin as he started thinking, "Hmmm… let me see….." His face lit up as he joyfully told us, "That's right! There is an unused building on campus. It was once a dormitory in the past, so if you 3 can clean it up, you should at least be able sleep there. For the time being I shall allow for you to stay there."
We all were filled with happiness upon hearing the Dean's offer. "Sir that's wonderful! Thank you so much!" I said. Himari nodded in agreement, "Yeah! Thanks a lot!"
"Yes, yes… you three will be safe there for the time being," said Mr. Crowley looking more and more proud of himself, "In the meantime I will be sure to look for a way for you 3 to return home!"
"Mr. Dean, you rock! Thank you!" Hoshiko squeeled, she happily gave Mr. Crowley a great big hug. The masked man was shocked at first but he smiled at my sister's affectionate hug as he patted her head while saying, "Aah… my graciousness is limitless! I am a model for all educators."
"His ego is also limitless…" Himari muttered. I quickly nudged her and shushed her. Good thing the Dean did not hear that… as he was still smiling and continued, "we better be on our way. Let us head to the dormitory. It may be old, but there is a certain charm to it."
We nodded and followed Mr. Crowley out.
I'm so grateful… at least we will have somewhere safe to stay…. For the time being. I paused to look at the library once more before hurrying out to follow my sisters and the Masked Dean.
So how do like this new chapter? I hope you all enjoyed it. Again my deepest apologies for the bad writing.
The next one will be Hoshiko's POV…
I am also excited to do some screenshot illustrations of my OC's and the TW cast. But this will be when the 1st chapter will begin, the one with Riddles route.
Anyway enjoy and have a great week.
