CHAPTER 02 : THE REBEL IN THE SAVANNAH PART 02

NORMAL POV
HEADMASTER'S OFFICE
KNOCK KNOCK
"Headmaster, pardon the intrusion."
"Pardon us."
The Akari sisters, Deuce, Ace, and Grim entered the Headmaster's office. Dire Crowley stood up from his chair and approached them with a smile on his face.
"You're all here, I see. Let's get right to the matter at hand." He then leaned on his desk with his arms crossed as he continued, "Now that the things have calmed down after the Heartslabyul incident the other day. There is a matter I must discuss with you…."
"What's that, Headmaster?" Himari asked.
"You all need to know about the berserk state Mr. Rosehearts fell into if you all are to become wizards." Crowley answered.
"It was…. Overblot?" Deuce asked.
"Yes that's correct." The masked headmaster sighed out slightly shaking his head as he remembered that incident.
"I've heard about it from my bro before but…." Ace said. "…. Seeing someone build up enough blot to become that was…. Something else. He really went full 'EVIL BERSERKER MODE'."
"So what is blot then, sir?" Tsukiko asked curiously.
Crowley sighed out and looked at the 3 sisters and Grim saying, "Ahh yes that's right. You four need that explained as well. I shall fill you all in. For I am gracious."
He then stood up straight began, "Ahem, Blot is a type of waste created after one uses magic. In a same way a vehicle creates exhaust as it burns fuel to run. Spells burn magic to manifest, and create blot at the same time… That should be easy enough to understand."
He then looked in disbelief at the clueless expression in Himari's face as she sheepishly muttered, "Uuuuh… sorry I don't follow….."
Tsukiko smiled and explained to her older sister, "What he means is that Blot is like a type of overused magic that can make a wizard, along with mental and emotional stress, go into a really bad state."
Himari blinked once more before she said, "Oooh… its that thing that makes a wizard go crazy, hehehe now I got it."
Tsukiko smiled and nodded, while Hoshiko just giggled.
"Well that is correct," Crowley said, "Blot has been researched since the dawn of recorded history but… There are still many mysteries to unravel. One thing that is known for sure is that blot is a toxin and building up too much can cause great harm to the mind and body."
"Oh yeah my grandma used to always say, 'You'll build up blot so don't use magic willy nilly'. She went on and on about it." Ace remarked.
Crowley looked at the group and folded his arms as he continued, "With great power comes great risk. No matter how great the wizard, they cannot infinitely use magic."
"So you're saying…" Grim chimed in, "The more we use magic the unhealthier it becomes?!"
"No, that's not exactly right." Crowley said looking more and more flustered as his point is not getting through. He then sighed out and said, "Hmmm…. It might be faster to just show you rather than just explain." He then snapped his fingers and called out, "My dear ghosts, it's time for work!"
"Yo yo. You called Headmaster?"
All the freshmen and Grim jumped in surprise as Ghosts began to appear in front of them.
"EH!? W-WHAT NOW?" Ace cried out.
"Oh my!" Tsukiko gasped covering her mouth in surprise.
"Awesome!" Himari chirped out in awe.
The Ghosts continue to float around as Crowley calmly ordered out, "First, please lend a hand in helping temper these young ones."
"EEH?!"
"ARE YOU NUTS?!" Himari cried out in disbelief at the masked Headmaster.
The Ghosts on the other hands nodded and began to circle around the freshmens. Grinning mischievously.
One of them chuckled out, "Here we go. Let's go a round."
Crowley then declared, "Ready your magic pens and magical stones everyone. Your special lesson with the headmaster isn't over yet."
Quickly understanding the situation, Himari swiftly pulled Tsukiko and Hoshiko in the center while she, Ace, Deuce and Grim surrounded them in a protective circle. Himari stared at the Ghost and smirked as she summoned her small rainbow-colored flame and said, "Bring it!"
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
(HEADMASTER'S OFFICE: A FEW MOMENTS LATER)
"Thank you all again for your help, you may return to your stations."
The Ghost bowed to the Headmaster before disappearing thru the walls. The group has just finished fighting off their spectral opponent using magic. Grim huffed and glared at Crowley saying, "Oi, Headmaster! Talking about blot and fighting ghosts have nothing to do with each other!"
Crowley still looking composed gestured towards the furry monster, "Grim, take a good look at the magic crystal around your neck."
"FGNAA!? THERE'S SOME WEIRD BLOTCHES ON MY CRYSTAL?!" Grim cried out in shock.
"Wow you're right!" Himari said peering closer at the furry monsters Crystal.
Grim began to furiously rub out the stain but to no avail. "AARGH… I CAN WIPE THEM OFF WITH MY PAW!"
Crowley continued, "There should be black smudges that look like drops of ink on the crystal. Those are the blots created from using magic."
"If I look close, there's small smudges on my magical pen as well…" Deuce said nervously as he looked at his magical pen.
"Blegh, it's so dirty!" Grim shuddered.
"Will it go back to normal?" Tsukiko asked nervously.
"Why yes," Crowley nodded.
"I'm relieved! Phew!" Grim sighed out. Hoshiko just giggled.
"With enough rest, the blots will vanish in a matter of time." Crowley continued, "Magical crystals don't only help with performing spells, but they also prevent blots from accumulating directly within the caster. They are truly a wonderful item that can shoulder your burdens.
"I see," Deuce said, "So you mean that if our crystals start to darken, we need to properly rest."
"That's right. Eat well, sleep well and normal blots will disappear on their own."
"That's great to hear!" Hoshiko chirped happily.
"How about that, Then, when I become the greatest wizard ever, I can fire off spells like 'BANG! BANG!' with no problem! I always eat my fill and sleep like a rock." Grim cheered on happily.
"The amount of mana a person has varies from one person to person but…." Crowley continued his explanation, "Aside from very special cases, the difference doesn't really affect the maximum blot a person can tolerate."
"What does that mean?" Grim asked
Crowley then crossed his arms and said, "That means, people like Mr. Rosehearts who have a lot mana, have to be exceedingly careful about how much blot they are accumulating."
"If you aren't paying attention and just keep using a bunch of magic without paying attention then, you're gonna get covered in blot." Ace said
"Well with the amount of mana all of you possess I don't think there's any danger of that." Crowley reassured them. He then grinned adding, "Isn't that great."
All the students just stared at him with a look of disbelief.
Ace frowned and muttered, "That line of yours doesn't bring me joy! Like at all!"
"So, if one overuses their magic and the crystal becomes completely black…" Tsukiko whispered nervously.
"They'll probably go into EVIL BERSERKER MODE just like what happened to Riri." Hoshiko said.
"FGNAA! Just remembering it gives me the shivers!" Grim exclaimed, "Especially that huge evil spirit thing… that was super scary."
Himari looked down on her own gemstone, she blinked and remarked, "Eh? I don't see any black blotches on mine though…"
All came closer to look at Himari's Sundrop. "No way…. But you were also using magic just like the rest of us." Ace remarked
"FGNAAH, How come?! Himari should have been already having some blots in her stone because she's been practicing her magic every day." Grim exclaimed.
"That would be because these gemstones give off a different form of magic known as LIGHT MAGIC." Crowley explained. "Light magic is a force in which enhances the bearer's magical aura from the positive traits of the bearer's heart. I mentioned before that only those born with strong magical bloodlines are the only ones that would have the strength and capabilities that these gemstones deem fit to wield it."
"I still find it hard to believe that we come from that kind of bloodline." Himari thought.
"Unlike Light Magic, the amount of blot a person accumulates if greatly influenced by their mental state." Crowley continued, "Anger, sorrow, fear, confusion…. Being swathed in negative energy makes blot all the easier to build up… and overblot occurs much more easily as well."
"So then the one we saw behind Riddle… was his overused Negative energy" Tsukiko said
"Correct Ms. Akari, The giant shadow that appeared behind Mr. Rosehearts when he was rampaging." Crowley nodded, "They say that appears as the incarnation of negative energy fused with blot however…. The details aren't understood at this time. There is still so much we don't know about overblot. Due in part to there being very few cases of it happening."
"Who would want more cases of that?!" Ace huffed out, "I certainly don't."
"So I guess there's not much details about these gemstones nor Light magic as well." Himari sighed out.
"You know… I do recall there was a kingdom that actually had wizards who used Light Magic, and it was- ", But before he could say anything, Crowley felt a sharp pain in his head. He stumbled back a bit.
"Headmaster?!" Deuce cried out in shock.
"Hey! You ok?" Himari cried out in concern as she and her sisters rushed towards the masked man.
As fast as the pain came, it swiftly disappeared. Crowley slowly straightened himself and blinked twice and looked at all of them in confusion as he said, "Sorry… what was it that I was saying a while ago?"
All the freshmen looked at him in confusion, but Crowley quickly waved it off and merrily said, "Ah… oh well it doesn't really matter. As I was saying, it is truly fortunate that Mr. Rosehearts was brought back to his senses, he hadn't…. AHHH! I DON'T WANT TO EVEN IMAGINE! IT'S TOO AWFUL!"
Grim jumped in surprised as he cried out, "WAAAHAH! DON'T YELL LIKE THAT, YOU SCARED THE CRAP OUTTA ME!"
"Ahem… Apologies, I lost myself there for a moment." Crowley said as he cleared his throat. "This became long winded, but I hope you understand that using magic comes with certain dangers. You'd do well to never forget that."
"Yes." All the freshmen and Grim replied.
He looked at Himari and said in a serious tone, "Ms. Akari, take heed of this especially considering your magic has just awoken. You will have to work extra hard to learn to control it. Using it excessively would be extremely dangerous."
"I understand sir." Himari answered.
Crowley's serious expression then changed to a cheery one as he exclaimed, "That brings your special lesson with your gracious headmaster to a close! Please return to your classroom!"
"….."
The masked headmaster blinked in confusion as to why the group was still standing in their place. Himari then crossed her arms and asked, "Headmaster…. Don't you think you're forgetting something important?"
"….." Again the headmaster just stared at the girls in confusion.
Himari sighed out and said, "About finding a way to get me and my sisters home?"
"…. Ah… Aaaaahhhh…. A way to send you three back to your world." Crowley stammered obviously looking embarrassed, "Of course I'm looking for one. I haven't forgotten or anything…. But I've been sooo busy lately…. And well…"
Himari just gave another annoyed sigh and slightly shook her head. Tsukiko just smiled sympathetically while Hoshiko as usual just giggled. "Your eyes are all over the place." Grim muttered.
Crowley looked at them flustered as he cried out, "I-I'm not lying. Getting ready for the Inter-dorm Magical Shift Tournament in October has had me swamped. There's a meeting with all the dorm heads after this too… Oh which reminds me." He then turned again to Himari's direction as he said, "I have been hearing that you proclaimed yourself as the Dorm Leader for Ramshackle… is that true, Ms. Akari?"
"O-Oh yeah…" Himari confirmed looking a bit sheepish, "There was a reason for that and well.. I kinda said it out loud, both my sisters and Grim are ok with it so…."
Crowley nodded and said, "Well then since that is the case, you will also have to attend the meeting as well… it will also be a good chance to introduce your dorm as well."
"Eh…. Umm…. Ok… I guess…" Himari said nervously, but deep down inside she wasn't thrilled in attending meetings and such.
"Ne… Headmaster" Hoshiko chirped in, "What is a Magical Shift tournament?"
"WHAT?! You girls don't know Magift?" Ace cried out in shock.
"Ah… Hellooo?" Himari said in a annoyed tone, "Girls from another world, remember…. Obviously we wouldn't know!"
"It's famous around the world. There's a pro league and a world cup too." Deuce explained.
"I don't know, either!" Grim said.
"Magical Shift… Magift for short…. Is a sport played by two teams of seven." Ace continued the explanation, "Put simply, there's a disk that you have to throw through the other teams goal to score points. The team with the most point wins."
"Ohh sounds like fun!" Hoshiko chirped excitedly.
Himari looks just as excited, "Yeah… you know… it kinda reminds me of American football."
"American football?" Deuce asked looking at Tsukiko curiously, "Is that a sport from your home?"
Tsukiko nodded and said, "Well it is actually a sport that originates from another country in our world, but it has also been played in Japan as well."
"Hmmm…. It's not something I've heard before." Crowley said thoughtfully, "I'll look it up next time I'm in the library. It might even turn into a lead…."
"The magift is a bit challenging though." Ace said.
"Why's that?" Grim asked.
"Magical shift is a sport that uses magic." Deuce replied, "The disk is carried with magic, defense and offense also use magic."
"How big a spectacle you can make with magic is also part of being a great player." Ace added.
Hoshiko and Tsukiko quietly looked at their older sister, and just as they predicted, Himari's eyes began to widen and starting to shine with great interest.
"Yes!" Crowley said, "That's why Night Raven College is know as a champion around the world! Countless alumni have gone on to be pro players! Magift is just an athletic sport but one that uses magic to compete as well. Our school's Inter-Dorm Magical Shift Tournament is attended by representatives of pro leagues and those from different magical industries around the world. The arena will be lined with food stalls and visitors from different countries will grace the stadium." He then stretched out his arms in a flamboiyant manner and he continued excitedly, "It is a tournament that'll make your palms sweat and works the whole world into a frenzy thanks to the live broadcast TV cameras."
"Oh, that sounds incredible." Tsukiko exclaimed.
"WOOOW! THAT'S AWESOME!" Hoshiko chirped excitedly.
Himari just stayed quiet, but deep down, her heart began to beat faster with enthusiasm, even if she has never seen the sport, but the way the boys and Crowley talk about it. She couldn't help but want to learn more about it.
Grim broke out in a great big smile as he exclaimed, "World wide broadcast?! So if I play in that tournament the whole world will be paying attention to me?!"
"Certainly," Crowley answered, "Those who play in the tournament will without a doubt become popular, with pro leagues and any number of sponsors."
Deuce said teasingly at Grim, "In your case, Grim. I think they'd be more surprised by seeing a monster play."
Grim then jumped on Himari's shoulders and raised his paw in the air as he exclaimed, "Oh yeah! I'll start some special training with Himari today and stand out to everyone in the stadium!"
"Hey!? Don't drag me into your crazy schemes!" Himari said in an annoyed tone.
"I think you and Grim should try out, Hima-nee!" Hoshiko chimed in.
"H-Hey Hoshi- wha?" Himari began, but Crowley then interrupted them saying, "Oh… but Grim, you and Ms. Akari can't play at all."
"Huh?!" Both Grim and Himari gasped out in surprise.
"Haven't I said 'INTER-DORM' several times already?" Crowley said slightly shaking his head, "Your dorm doesn't meet the seven-person requirement does it? So you can't even apply."
"EH?! HOW CAN THAT BE!" Grim cried out in despair.
"O-oh…. I see…" Himari mumbled out, feeling disappointed deep down.
Both Tsukiko and Hoshiko looked at the pair sadly feeling really sad for them.
Seeing this Crowley quickly added, "B-But…. Selling drinks in the stands the day of, preparing the fielf for the tournament, there are many things that have to be done. Standing on the field as a player isn't the only one."
Himari knew the Headmaster was trying to make them feel better. So, she just gave a smile and said in a cheery tone, "Y-yeah… we can always help out in other ways… it'll be fun to see the even itself. Right guys."
Bothe her sisters and the Heartslabyul just nodded quietly, but they could tell that Himari was just putting on a brave face. Grim on the other hand began to wail out, "No way! No way! I wanna hear 'KYAA! GRIM IS SO COOL!' 'HEY DID YOU SEE HIS SUPER PLAY?!' From the crowd as they all cheer for me!"
"That's a pretty basic delusion!" Ace mumbled out.
"Hmmm… can't be helped since you don't have enough people." Deuce said.
Grim still looked really upset, but to his surprise, Himari gave him a comforting hug as she said, "Hey cheer up ok, furball… We may not participate for this year but for next year, we'll do our best to have new students in our dorm ok…"
Grim looked really surprised at the elder sister's words. He then just sniffed and grumbled out, "Fine…"
Both Tsukiko and Hoshiko also approached the pair to cheer up their furry little companion.
"Well then… I really must get back to work! Ahhh busy busy busy…." Crowley said looking at his pocket watch.
"Oh, wait headmaster before you go there is something I would like to request." Tsukiko said.
"Yes, Ms. Tsukiko?" Crowley asked.
"Well… you see…." Tsukiko began.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
"I see…. So you wish to volunteer in tending to our botanical garden?" Crowley asked looking at the young girl.
Tsukiko nodded shyly as she said, "You have such a beautiful garden, and I would love tend to the flowers and plants there."
Crowley looked at her and smiled warmly as he said, "Well my dear, how about this, Not only will I give you permission to tend to our school garden, but I will allow you to plant some flowers or plants for your use. As it so happens, there is an area there in the garden that we were planning to add some new botanical plants there. However, we never decided on what to plant there so it was left untouched. If you are interested, you may use it as you please."
Tsukiko's eyes widened with happiness as she bowed and said, "Really?!… Oh, thank you so much, headmaster!"
Crowley smiled even more as he said, "You're quite welcome my dear! Ahh… my generosity knows no bound!"
Grim grumbled out, "Fgnaah… he may be generous to Tsukiko but he's still a big jerk…. Getting my hopes up for nothing …."
Crowley then looked at Himari as he gestured for her to follow him, "Well then, we must be off. Come along Ms. Himari."
Himari nodded and handed Grim to Hoshiko before following the headmaster to meet with the other Dorm leaders.
:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3:3
