I Get It ~~ Devon is there for Tory. Tory calls her, knowing that Devon lost her mom to cancer, and she could relate.
Part One
Tory had just gotten home from the hospital and went through her mother's belongings when she found the "magic jewel" she had given her when she was a child. She teared up, remembering that day extremely well. She had seen the bruises on her mother's arm. Fingerprint marks on her forearm. She was beginning to get lost in her thoughts when her phone rang. She looked at it, and seeing that Robby was calling, she sighed. Robby wouldn't understand. None of her friends would so she ignored the call.
Wait. Devon. Tory thought.
Tory unlocked her phone and hovered over Devon's contact. She knew Devon had lost her mom to cancer and figured that Devon would be able to help her. She selected Devon's contact and put her phone down on the floor after putting it on speakerphone not having the energy to hold the phone to her ear.
"Hey, Tory. What's up? Aren't you supposed to be training for the captain's fight right now?" Devon asked and Tory closed her eyes. She couldn't get herself to care about karate right now.
"I can't," Tory said, voice cracking.
"Tory, what happened?" Devon asked, sitting up on her bed. She had never heard Tory sound so vulnerable.
"M- My mom, My mom," Tory couldn't even say the words right now, but Devon understood, and her heart dropped. She thought Tory's mom was getting better.
"Tory, where are you now?" Devon asked, getting changed from her pyjamas to regular clothes.
"My place. Why?"
"Text me your address. You shouldn't be alone right now," Devon said and walked into her living room where her dad was. Tory just said okay and hung up, texting Devon her address.
"Dad, can I borrow the car?" Devon asked and before her dad could ask why she spoke. "My friend's mom passed and doesn't have anyone who can understand so I need to go and help her out," Devon explained, and she watched her dad's face change to one of understanding and nodded.

It had taken Devon 15 minutes to get to Tory's and when she did she didn't bother knocking. She just walked in. When she did she looked into the apartment and saw Tory sitting against the wall, her mom's belongings beside her and she saw the tears rolling down her cheeks. Devon's heart dropped at seeing the normally badass girl breaking in front of her eyes.
Devon rushed over to Tory and even though she didn't know how Tory would react, she sat beside Tory and pulled her into a hug. Tory just broke down into sobs.
"Shhh. Shhh. It's going to be okay, Tory. I'm here." Devon said, rocking her, trying to calm her down.
It had taken several minutes for Tory to calm down and when she did she continued to lean onto Devon's shoulder.
"Tory, do you want to stay with me for the next couple of days? You shouldn't be alone right now." Devon told her, concern growing for Tory.
"You said that already," Tory pointed out.
Devon smiled softly. "I know. I just think you should come stay with me, make sure you have someone with you." Devon paused. "I'm sure after finding her here you won't be able to sleep."
Tory nodded, pulling away from Devon. "I don't think I can focus on karate right now," Tory admitted somewhat randomly. "I think I need to pull out for the captain spot," Tory told Devon and Devon frowned.
"Are you sure you can't fight? Maybe your mom would want you to," Devon tried to tread carefully but she knew how valuable Tory is to the team.
"She would. I'm physically able to, sure. But I don't know about emotionally." Tory told Devon, brutally honest.
Devon sighed. She didn't know what to say. She knew that this would be hard for Tory and her brother. Wait. "Hey, where's your brother?" Devon asked and Tory stood up.
Tory looked down, tears beginning to roll down her cheeks again and she let out a sob. Devon frowns and pulls her into a hug.
"Tory, where is he?" Devon asked after Tory's tears began to settle.
"He's with a friend but my aunt is fighting for custody," Tory told Devon, a tear falling.
"Pack a bag, Tory. You're not staying here alone," Devon said and instead of fighting, Tory just nodded.
Tory walked into her room, her eyes fell on a photo of her mom, and her heart broke further. Photos were all she had left of her now. Tory swallowed back the growing sob, grabbed a bag and packed some of her clothes and any photos before walking back out to the main room. She sees Devon sitting on one of the dining room table chairs, on her phone and she clears her throat. Devon snapped her head up and stood up.
"Ready to go?" Devon asked. Tory looked at her briefly and nodded shortly. Devon and Tory walked out of the apartment and while Tory locked the apartment door Devon was leaning against her dad's car when she spotted someone unexpected.
"What are you doing here?"
