PART I
ACT II
SCENE I
(NERV's command room. MISATO and RITSUKO stand ready, staring out at the audience while MAYA sits at the controls.)
RITSUKO: "Victorious in Germania…" and you and Kaji think that it might have something to do with Asuka?
MISATO: We do.
RITSUKO: And what does our historian think?
MISATO: Conn thinks we're jumping to conclusions, pointing out that many individuals had that title and one even had it as their name.
RITSUKO: So, it could be a reference to anyone and not just the title.
MISATO: It looks that way.
RITSUKO: (Sighs.) Great. Did he put forth any ideas after he helped the kids out with the history assignments?
MISATO: A few and they are both related to guys who were descended from the one whose name was the title.
RITSUKO: Did he say what their names were?
MISATO: Yeah, Caligula and Nero. Conn said something about the first guy making his horse a public official and the other burned down a portion of Rome to build himself a new palace.
MAYA: Pilots are ready! The Simulation Plug is now under MAGI's control.
RITSUKO: (Looks to the side.) This is odd.
MISATO: What's wrong, Ritsuko?
RITSUKO: Shinji's synch ratio isn't rising. At this rate I can't retrieve any data.
MISATO: (Quietly.) Shinji, are you sleeping on your job?
SHINJI: (Offstage.) I'm awake.
ASUKA: (Offstage.) You're daydreaming about taking a girl to the dance, aren't you? Anyone I know?
SHINJI: (Offstage.) That's not it!
ASUKA: (Offstage.) Who is it? Mana Kirishima? Mayumi Yamagishi?
MISATO: Asuka, keep personal conversations to yourselves. This is an important test.
ASUKA: (Offstage.) Either way, Shinji isn't someone who could ever beat me.
SHINJI: (Offstage.) I don't know. I've beaten you when it has come to a few things, Asuka.
ASUKA: (Offstage.) Hey, wanna play rock-paper-scissors?
SHINJI: (Offstage.) Huh?
ASUKA: (Offstage.) If you win, I'll buy you a brand-new W Walkman to replace the one I accidentally broke the other day.
SHINJI: (Offstage.) Huh? Really?
ASUKA: (Offstage.) Let's go!
MISATO: (Dreading the coming result.) Oh, God!
NOTES
A good portion of this is based on a segment from "Girlfriend of Steel" with some adjustments.
