Hiddenville XIX
Summary: Dancing on Rooftops leads to Max getting his superhero cape
Evie's Notes: Hey guys, longer chapter today. Hope you all enjoy! ❤️
Amelia was having so much fun living in Hiddenville. The only downside was that there were next to no crimes. Which wasn't actually a bad thing, it just took a bit of getting used too. In Metroburg there was always a criminal to chase or disaster to avert. Even in Swellview, Henry and the others were kept busy, though that was mostly due to the police's incompetence.
With the launch of Madam Danger's Twitflash account, Amelia decided it would be good to get back into crime fighting shape after only fighting with the team once since her return to the past. Luckily the boringness of Hiddenville was an excellent place to get back into the swing of things.
MadamDanger: Heading out to keep our streets safe. Catch me if you can 😉
Snapping a quick selfie of her in her new super suit (a long sleeve bulletproof nanotech zip up hoodie, leggings and a glittery black skirt along with her lace black mask with a built-in voice modulator) she posted the message to Twitflash and headed out for patrol.

Amelia found herself buzzing about the next morning feeling energized from the previous night's patrol. True she hadn't stopped any crimes, but she had freed a couple cats from trees and helped a stranger with directions. She was really starting to feel at home here in Hiddenville.
Closing her locker, Amelia jumped a little when she found Max leaning up against the other side.
"Hey Mia"
"Hey Max, what's up?"
"I was wondering if you had heard about the rooftop party happening tonight"
"Yeah, I think Lindsey said something about it. It's $10 to get in, or well up, right?"
"Oh yeah, but I got you covered if you're coming" smiled Max.
"You don't have to do that," protested Mia.
"I know, but I want to. You really should come. We would have an awesome time" grinned the boy.
"We?" asked Mia, blushing a little at the insinuation.
"Yeah, the boys and I are playing and would love to have you there. It's going to be illegal and unsafe and so so much fun!".
"Oh." muttered Mia, the smile dropping off her face at the mention of the boys.
"Oh what?" asked Max, confused at her sudden change in mood.
"It's nothing. I was just being silly. Obviously I'd love to go to the party with you and the guys" smiled Amelia.
Despite her building crush on the boy, she was his friend first and foremost. She didn't want to risk that if her feelings were not going to be returned.

Checking her outfit in the mirror Amelia grinned, she looked hot. She had chosen a cute pair of short striped shorts, a white tank top and a pair of high heeled black booties. Given that it was kinda windy and would be chilly on the roof she added her long pink coat as well. Grabbing her black leather purse and keys she headed out to party.

Pulling up to the school Mia quickly parked her car on the street a few feet from the school and snuck over to the fire escape which would let her up to the roof. She had gotten a text from Oyster already showing a picture of him and Giddy dancing with Lindsey and Cherry. From their friend group she was the only one not there yet, well her and the twins. Texting Oyster that she was on her way up, she slung her purse across her body and began to climb the ladder. Suddenly she felt the ladder start to tip backwards. Was she seriously going to die while going to an illegal high school party?
By some miracle the ladder jerked to a stop three quarters of the way to the ground and then suddenly reversed direction. Glancing over her shoulder she spotted a familiar swoosh in the bushes and smirked. Not wanting to give away her knowledge of the twins' powers, she quickly climbed up the ladder to the roof. As soon as her feet cleared the top of the roof she heard the ladder topple to the ground. Looking back at the twins she could see Phoebe clutching onto Max's jacket and Max dropping his hands, showing that he had been the one using telekinesis to deliver her safely to the top.
"Yo Mia, the party's over here" called Gideon, waving her to come and join the dancing teens. Making a mental note to do something nice for Max as a thank you Amelia headed over to join her friends.

Phoebe had been acting like a complete psycho ever since her old friend Christine had gotten her superhero cape. Max really didn't see what the big deal was though. Sure getting your cape meant you got access to awesome weapons, but being a recognized member of the Hero League also came with a ton of extra work.
Max was hoping that his sister's newest bout of needing to prove herself could be used to his advantage.
"Hey Pheebs" he called as the girl walked in from putting out fires around town. "If you want to do a good deed, help me find Dad's wallet. I need twenty bucks for the party".
"What party? The party? That's tonight?!" asked Phoebe freaking out. "I totally forgot and I told all my friends I would go".
"How could you forget about the first ever secret rooftop party in school history?" asked Max, seriously questioning his twin's priorities. "It's illegal, and unsafe, and I can't wait!"
"I thought the cover was $10, why do you need $20?"
"I'm paying for Amelia. She's meeting me there".
"Oh?" asked Phoebe, raising her eyebrow at the boy's wording.
"Yeah… and why oh? Mia said the same thing".
"It's nothing" smirked Phoebe, she was going to have fun with the knowledge that her brother apparently had a crush!
"Whatever" muttered Max, moving over to check the coat closet for dad's wallet.
"Well I can't go now!" bemoaned Phoebe. "If mom and dad ever found out that I went to an illegal rooftop party they would never let me accept a superhero cape"
"Jackpot!" celebrated Max, having found the wallet in his Dad's raincoat.
"Although, there's nothing like dancing on a roof with cute boys after putting out a brushfire".
"Thank you Bank of Hank," smirked Max, pocketing the money he'd found. "You do know that Link isn't coming" he reminded her
"Yeah, but just because my boyfriend won't be there doesn't mean I can't get my party on"
"Whatever" scoffed Max. "Just hurry up and get changed so we can head over".

"You know what? I'm really excited about you getting this cape, Phoebe" remarked Max, as the pair crept towards the school through the bushes.
"What? Oh! Let me guess, your 'excitement' is because you want access to the superhero weapons"
"Absolutely. Here's a list"
"Alright, fine. I'll put this in a safe place for you" relented Phoebe, taking the list from Max only to light it on fire with her heat breath.
"Jokes on you. That wasn't my only copy".
The pair's bickering was cut off as they spotted a familiar looking blonde approaching the school.
"Look! It's Mia, how does my swoosh look?" asked Max, worriedly checking his hair in his phone screen.
Phoebe did her best not to laugh, but it was so funny seeing her twin get tied up in knots over a girl.
Mia started to climb the ladder, but about halfway up the bolts gave up and she started to fall.
"Max! That looks bad!" Phoebe gripped onto Max's arm, her nails digging into his leather jacket, as she worried for her friend.
"I know! She's falling" worried the boy.
Phoebe's eyes grew wide as Max's hands flew up and he used his telekinesis to freeze the ladder before Amelia could hit the ground.
Phoebe joined him and added her own telekinesis powers to help send Mia back up to the building. Max held the ladder tight and Phoebe made sure Amelia made it safely to the top of the school. Once the pretty girl had scrambled safely onto the roof, Max let the ladder drop to the ground with a clang.
"Phew! That was close. You don't think anyone saw us, right Max?" asked Phoebe, glad that their friend was safe. Turning to the side she was shocked to see how dark her brother's eyes were and the serious look on his face.
"Come on. I know another way up" he replied, leading her around to the other side of the school.
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
The twins made it up to the roof in record time and Max made a beeline for Amelia. Pulling the girl into a tight hug he did his best to convince his fast beating heart that she was here and safe.
"Max" laughed Mia, pulling away from him enough for him to see her face. "What's going on with you".
"Nothing, I just missed my best girl"
"I literally just saw you a few hours girl" laughed the girl, her purple bangs falling into her eyes.
Reaching up, Max tenderly brushed them behind her ear, "Well I never can get enough of you"
Amelia blushed deeply, glancing down shyly.
The moment was ruined though by Oyster awkwardly clearing his throat. "Hey, I hate to break this up broseph but we're needed on stage"
Max shot his best friend a glare, couldn't they see they were in the middle of something?
"Thanks for letting us know, Oyster. Come on, Max! I'll be right up front cheering for you" urged Mia, pulling away from his arms.
Sighing, Max reluctantly let her go and made his way over to the stage to rock out.

The band's set had gone amazingly even without a drummer. The rest of the party had been a ton of fun with lots of dancing and food. Mia had even managed to sneak in some alcohol in her purse so the group of friends had an especially awesome time.
Max couldn't help but reflect back on the party and the time he spent dancing with Mia as he did his morning workout. Mia had looked so pretty the night before, not that she wasn't always pretty, she just looked absolutely gorgeous last night. He had so much fun dancing with her. It was crazy to think that she had only been in Hiddenville for about four months and he could barely imagine a world without her.
Max was in the middle of his pushup set when Phoebe hollered loudly down into his lair. "Max, are you down there?"
"Ugh. Tell her no" begged Colosso, not wanting to deal with the righteous Thunderman Twin so early in the morning… or ever really.
"We've got a mess on our hands. Somebody recorded everything last night" explained the worried brunette, holding out her pearpad for Max to see.
"Including me bringing back the cabbage patch" quipped Max, hopping down from the table where he had been working out.
"Ok, not that mess" sassed Phoebe, "this mess".
Pressing play, the pair watched a the camera shot showed Mia tipping backwards on the ladder, almost hitting the ground and then flying back up against the wall. Even knowing that Amelia was home safe didn't make Max feel better as he watched the footage. His friend had been so close to being seriously hurt… or worse!
Trying to distract himself, Max read the video title; "Miracle wind saves rooftop partier".
"The video's gone viral!" explained Phoebe. "If mom and dad see it, they'll know it was telekinesis and that I snuck out to the party. Then it's bye-bye superhero cape".
"Mom and dad are like 70 years old" dismissed Max. "They don't watch viral videos".
Unfortunately luck did not seem to be on Max's side, because no sooner had those words left his mouth did his mother's heels come pounding down the stairs to his lair.
"I just saw a viral video on the morning news," snapped his mother. "I am getting your father and the four of us are going to have a talk". Shooting her children with dagger eyes that promised pain if they tried to get out of this conversation, Mrs. Thunderman quickly left the lair to get her husband.
The twins dropped their heads in despair, they were in so much trouble.
"Haha, you forgot about the morning news," laughed Colosso. "It's the internet for old people"
"Oh shut up old man" snapped Phoebe, using her telekinesis to dump a cup of water on the bunny's head.
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
The twins sat awkwardly on the couch as their parents replayed the video of Mia falling over and over again on the ThunderMonitor. Phoebe could feel how tense Max was getting as they were forced to watch the image of their friend almost get hurt over and over again.
"Is that what I think it is?" asked their father, finally stopping the video and turning to face the teenagers.
"Yep, miracle wind. Give it up for Mother Nature" tried Phoebe, as she and Max applauded.
"That wasn't wind" snapped their mom, not buying their story for a second. "ThunderMonitor, play the infrared".
As the scene replayed again, the twins could clearly see their powers being used on screen to save Amelia.
"Telekinetic waves?" gasped Hank. "Somebody better start talking"
"All right, fine. Here's the deal" admitted Phoebe, guiltily rising to her feet. "Even though I did all those great hero things yesterday, you should also know that…"
"I saved that girl" interrupted Max.
"Max saved that girl" finished Phoebe, confused as to where her brother was taking this. While technically true, they both had done it so why was he taking all the blame?
"Wait, what?" asked Phoebe and their parents.
"Sorry, it was me. I was the hero who saved that girl" repeated Max.
"So let me get this straight, Max Thunderman… saw someone in danger… and saved them?" asked Hank, very confused as to what had happened to his self-proclaimed supervillain son.
"Seems to be what we're going with" agreed Phoebe.
"On purpose?" asked Barb, in absolute shock.
"All right, I get it. You guys don't think I can do something heroic, but I did"
"Barb, do you know what this means?" celebrated Hank, grabbing a remote and pressing a shiny red button.
Parts of the ceiling opened up and balloons and confetti descended from the sky coating the thundermans and the room in a glittery mess.
"The Phase Is Over" shouted their parents.
Hank shoved Phoebe out of the way in order to hug Max tightly. "We always knew you had it in ya, pal" celebrated the man, placing a sloppy kiss on the boy's head.
"Let's call the Hero League and tell them we have two teen heroes in the family" announced Barb, pulling her happy husband out of the room leaving the twins alone.
"What are you up to?" asked Phoebe, familiar enough with her brother's plots to know when she was wrapped up in one.
"I want to make sure you get your cape" grinned Max, "And in return, you will give me access to the Hero League weapons".
"I already told you, that's not gonna happen"
"Oh? Well I'll just tell mom and dad then that you snuck out to the party. Bye-bye cape" smirked the devious boy.
Phoebe weighed her options before finally giving in. "Ugh fine! You can play with one weapon for one hour"
"Yes! Power is mine!" cheered Max, launching into another round of the cabbage patch dance.
"The Hero League is so excited, Max" announced Barb as the Thunderman parents returned to the living room.
"At first they didn't believe it and hung up on us," admitted Hank. "But then we called them back and convinced them".
The sudden beeping of the ThunderMonitor cut off any further conversation.
"Incoming transmission from Super President Kickbutt" blared the AI
"Super President Kickbutt?" gasped Hank in shock. "Phoebe! This is it! I told you she'd call"
"Good morning Thunderman Family" greeted the stately woman as she appeared on the screen.
"Hi," replied the family, with differing levels of enthusiasm.
"Phoebe, we are all very impressed with your recent run of superhero deeds. It has been truly exemplary" commended the blue haired woman.
"Phoebe, you're gonna get your cape" squealed Barb, shaking her daughter's arm excitedly.
"And now, it is with great pleasure that I announce that the last superhero cape of the year is going to…"
"Here it comes" whispered Phoebe, with a giant smile on her face.
"Maximus Thunderman"
"Huh?"
"Did someone say my name?" asked Max, finally deciding to pay attention to the conversation happening around him instead of the money he was taking from Hank's wallet.
"Yes, congratulations Max" smiled the powerful superhero.
"Wait! So I'm getting the last superhero cape of the year?" clarified Max.
"That's correct"
"I am so armed… I mean honored" corrected the boy. His mind already spinning with plots and plans this new status would allow him.
"There's gotta be some kind of mistake!" protested Phoebe. "Check again. The name is Phoebe. P-h-o…"
"There is no mistake," assured the Super President. "Max's unexpected act of heroism catapulted him to the top of the list"
"e-b-e" finished the girl. "As in Phoebe should get that cape. He just saved her because he likes her and she's pretty" protested Phoebe.
"A save is a save, you know that Phoebe," scolded the woman. "Whether the girl was a stranger or not, Max used his power for good instead of evil. This is a momentous day. I will see you at Max's cape ceremony. Super President Kickbutt, out!"
Phoebe's jaw dropped in shock and disappointment as the ThunderMonitor returned to its normal hiding place.
"Phoebe, I know it's hard, but try to be happy for Max" encouraged Hank.
"But you guys do realize that for Max to have saved that girl, he went to a party… at our school… on a roof"
"Ah, that's just Max," dismissed Hank.
"Well the old Max," laughed Barb.
"Good riddance to that guy" added Max as he counted the cash he had lifted from both parents' wallets.
"Now if you'd have gone to that party, you'd be in big trouble" explained Barb. "But you didn't cause you're a good girl"
Phoebe pouted unhappily as her mother pinched her cheeks. This was incredibly unfair!
"I can't believe it, Barb! We can finally say that all our kids are good!"
Max winced at that, sure he didn't necessarily want to be good. But it still hurt a bit to hear his parents celebrating like this.
"Come on! We've got a cape ceremony to plan" squealed Barb, rushing to her office to start placing party orders.
Phoebe fixed her brother with a harsh glare, she couldn't believe that he was really just going to sit there and take away her hard earned cape.
"What?" asked Max. "I'm doing you a favor. Now you don't have to lend me those weapons anymore since I can get them myself… you're welcome"
Ugh! Phoebe wanted to strangle him!
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
The day was extremely frustrating for Phoebe. Max had done a total 180, playing up his supposed 'good person' life change. Phoebe was sure that he was hiding something and still evil. Unfortunately Max had covered his tracks well and had seemingly become the face of reformed teen villains.
Even their Hiddenville friends had picked up on Max's weird personality shift. Mia, who had stopped by the house to drop off some cookies had given Max the weirdest look throughout her time with the twins. Giddeon and Oyster had sent Phoebe frantic texts asking what the hell was wrong with her brother and whether he was dying. She managed to calm them both down and assured them that Max was not dying and would be better by Monday… or so she hoped!
Knowing that her best bet of getting her cape was to make him crack, Phoebe plotted all of the different ways she could trick him into thinking he was actually becoming 'good' and not evil. Setting to work she used her powers to make it seem like Max was unconsciously making good choices and thereby actually turning into a hero.
By the time that President Kickbutt arrived for the Cape Ceremony Max was fully freaking out. Phoebe hadn't expected her subtle manipulations to work so well, but clearly her brother was terrified of becoming a 'good guy'.
"We gather here today to bestow upon Max Thunderman his superhero cape!" declared President Kickbutt, unveiling the gorgeous blue and orange cape emblazoned with the Thunderman Family "T". Phoebe stared longingly at the cape, wishing for her chance to add the cape to her super suit.
Max, who at this point was visibly freaking out, shouted "Not going to happen President Stinkbutt!"
"Hahaha, that's what I used to call her" laughed Dr. Coloso, who had been brought out of Max's lair for the ceremony.
"Max? What are you doing?" asked Hank, though his eyes promised punishment if Max continued to embarrass the family.
"I am NOT a Superhero!"
"Aww, he's just got a little cape fear" rambled Barb, desperately trying to save face before the Hero League. "Don't worry honey, it happens to all of us. Come on, put your cape on for mommy".
"No! I am EVIL and always have been!" declared Max emphatically, ripping the cape off his shoulders and stomping on it.
"Well clearly someone is not ready for their cape," remarked President Kickbutt dryly.
"Well seeing as Max isn't going to be using that cape, I think that there is someone else here who it would look perfect on" cut in Phoebe, sliding up next to the Super President.
"Hmmm, yes. Yes there is indeed" agreed the woman.
'YES! This was finally her moment!' thought Phoebe
"Simone, dear. Front and center please".
President Kickbutt's daughter made her way to the center of the room.
"I am giving the last superhero cape of the year to my daughter Simone. Clearly Max still has several issues to work through, and Phoebe you must work on your humility. Better luck next year Thunderman Family" snapped the woman, before ushering her daughter and team through the door. "Super President Kickbutt, OUT!"
"Max! How could you embarrass our entire family like that?" demanded Barb.
"ME?" gasped Max. "What about Phoebe? She used her powers too in order to help me save Amelia at that party".
"What was that?" demanded Hank furiously.
"Uh… clearly he is delirious from today's cape trauma" lied Phoebe, trying desperately to get out of trouble. She told the truth though when faced with both of her parent's furious faces. "Okay, fine. I helped Max help save Mia at that party"
"Phoebe, why?" asked Barb
"Because she was falling?"
"No, I mean why did you let Max take all the credit for the save?" clarified their mother.
"Well, I didn't want you guys to know that I snuck out to the party. Look, I'm really sorry that I lied. It's just that… I really want my superhero cape, but I also wanna be out there dancing on rooftops"
"You've been on more than one rooftop?!" worried Hank.
"Oh yeah, tons" grinned Max, though his comment went mostly unnoticed. Now that he was no longer 'perfect' his parents weren't particularly interested in him.
"It's ok, sweetie. I mean, part of being a superhero is learning how to juggle your hero life with your regular life. You'll get your cape. It will just take longer," comforted Barb.
"Thanks Mom" grinned Phoebe, pulling Barb in for a tight hug. Sure she didn't have her cape yet, but if she kept working hard Phoebe knew she would become a great superhero one day.
